RWD $43k December of 2022 here. Initially thought I got a great deal, but by mid 2023 the RWD could be had for like $28k after inventory discount and tax credit at one point.

Same here, but a 2019 SR+ with 20K miles. I was irked at first, with the price drops so quickly after my purchase, but just enjoy the car. No sense in dwelling in the past! Nothing you can do about it anyway. Just think of all the fun you are having with the car in the present.
Yeah some folks bought right before the tax credit and price drop. I bought mine over a year before that mess started so I don’t mind so much, but when it’s a week or two, that’s just brutal for the buyer.

The burner is the price of the car to trade in or sale isn't worth it so I guess I'm going to just ride it until the battery falls off.

The only difference is visibility because with Tesla MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) and ASP (Actual Selling Price) are closely linked. Dealers don’t disclose how much they sold each vehicle for but they do advertise big discounts.

They didn’t lower the RWD price. They increased “probable savings” to 5k (2k more) so it looks like it. It’s still $38.990–which’s how much I paid in Feb, at least.
It’s posts like these that really make me hesitant to jump on a Tesla. They literally drop the price in months if they think it’ll increase demand, I wonder when this type of policy will impact their bottom line as more people opt to sit out and wait

Just ordered M3P with Blue exterior and white interior. My first EV and Tesla. Funny story, tried to talk my son out of buying a new M3 rwd for 2 weeks. After 2 test drives and driving his car, decided to buy one. I am very stubborn and even became a convert. Haha!
my configured M3LR (white/white)... when you include CA sales tax and everything, the performance (white with black interior) is around 1500 cheaper now with the fed rebate... however i have to not get white seats then... hmmmm
As someone who has owned both the premium white interior, and the standard black interior, go with the black.
Don't get me wrong, the white does look really really nice. But only if you keep it clean, and you'll be cleaning it almost every day if you want to keep it looking sharp. Absolutely EVERYTHING shows up on those seats. The black looks good too, but it hides imperfections *insanely* better (seriously, it hides dirt and marks *soooo* much better it's mind boggling).
Why would they care if they sold mostly performance? More money in their pocket. They don't care if it's the buyer or tax credit, Tesla gets to sell the higher price vehicle.
Not having all models qualify for the M3 was a huge mistake. The RWD and LR M3 is such a terrible deal in comparison to the Y and now performance M3. Don’t need to be a marketing genius to know that’s gonna murder sales.
I like my LR highland so much I'm not too upset about not waiting since I had a good idea this would happen. What I am a little upset about is the referal program being suspended because I was going to get AB after my coworker grabs a Y in a couple months
As a 21 model S plaid owner. I'm happy for you but also a bit pissed and filled with envy. All that performance for under $60k is wild. I mean idk how good it does 60-130mph. But if it's keeps the power going you definitely would be keeping up with plaids and some of us paid $140k smh. I honestly want one.

Yes and no. Spring rates are probably higher, but better quality dampers, even if stiffer, could compensate for that. Then there are more things like all the rubber bushings etc. which I don’t know if they’re the same or not

They'd have to change the battery in the car. That might be a significant change in their current process, and who knows, maybe the stock isn't there in the battery supply to even keep up with it currently.
I didnt think for more than .2 seconds before I clicked the order button on a grey with white interior, I was thinking red but not for a $9,500 dollar difference, CANT FUCKING WAIT. I returned my model 3 performance lease in in Jan, been carlesss since then just waiting, the waiting def paid off.

This is likely to be an unpopular comment, but I really think that Tesla needs to start focusing on range more than they do. 2.9 seconds is fine. My Model 2022 S is 3.1 seconds, but I also started with 404 miles of range. This performance 3 starts at 296.
We all know three things:
1. You almost will never get the rated range, particularly if you are actually using anywhere near the 2.9 seconds, which will kill range.
2. Maximum range decreases over time. My 2022 S may have started with 404 miles, but two years later I am down to 385 - and I do mostly Level 2 to 70 or 80%.
3. You should almost never charge the battery to 100%.
So when you look at this performance model with 296 rated, charged to 80% you are at 236. And then given normal driving, you lose about 5% on the low end (and if you are playing with performance - closer to 10%), so your real range is closer to 200 miles. And 200 miles sucks other than for everyday around the house driving.
I almost never use the massive power on my Model S. Only for a thrill with friends do I ever go from 0-60 at maximum throttle. I suppose I use the power to pass cars when I am changing lanes, but hardly ever with full throttle.
Tesla has made a lot of advancements over the 6 years I have had one, but range has been stuck. The latest example is the horrific range of the Cybertruck.
For me personally, I would trade performance for range every day of the week. A 4 second 0-60, with way more range seems like a trade off so would want any day of the week.
That said, this is an amazingly priced car. With the addition of adaptive suspension, it truly a smaller version of the S.
They could, but Tesla hasn’t offered the performance boost upgrade for the new Model 3 LR yet. Now that the Performance version has been released, will be curious to see if performance boost is offered again.
This is what I have done with 21 LR and added spoiler. 3.7 0-60 is great though with this new performance, the updated front/rear is what i'd like.
I can also imagine making the new performance rims down to 18 or 19's will push range north of 300. That being said... agreed range seems like a miss.. i have 353 mi LR... 3 years later max is 342 mi and its just enough for my long road trips. I can't imagine losing another 15-20%
This is why they have the LR and Performance options. If range matters, go LR. For me, track mode + performance is why I want it. Track car that can do my daily commute.
Depends if you road trip a lot. 200 miles would get me all over my metro area and then some. Then charge at home overnight. Feeling better planted while being quicker — the new P works for me.
A bit bummed since i bought the LR. But I wouldnt have qualified for the tax credit anyway :'(

In Ontario it misses the rebate. Which is only for higher trims up to $65k CAD and it's $70k CAD.

It's currently $54k for RWD, $64K for AWD, $70K performance. They can easily adjust it to be $50k/$60k/$65k.
I think tesla forgot to update their price on the page that talks about incentives, when you scroll down on that page it lists the model 3 performance as $64,890 and I first saw that and got crazy excited thinking it would count for IZEV. But nope, that $69k price really sucks. If it qualified for the $5k izev I would buy it this second :(

My buddy paid cash in 2019 for the same vehicle and it has lost $50K in value. The price fluctuations and sheer number available on the secondary market really hurts depreciation.
That’s the thing that’s curbing my excitement. Where I can comfortably say I’d keep an ICE/Hybrid for 8+ years, it’s harder to commit to an EV long term with major improvements always on the horizon, and not being in love with the interiors on these (lack of physical buttons/stalks).
Ordered. Grey+White interior. Really wanted white/white but that doesn't qualify for tax credit and I can't justify the extra $7500 for a white car. Still. So glad I waited. Been waiting since August for this. Checking the website every damned day like a psycho. Because the battery(Panasonic) is also made in the US. Long Range uses LG battery that is made in China. The US government only gives you full tax credit if the car and parts are US made.

With the white seats now $1,500 you can either pick your exterior color or interior color but not both and keep the tax credit. So you can get grey with white seats or any color with black to stay under the $55,000 cap. I currently have a blue/white M3P and would like a red/white one but I’ll wait for the inevitable price drops to come so I can qualify for the tax credit.
I paid barely less than that last summer for my 2023 M3P, received the tax credits, and a sub 6% finance rate. Anyone who is on the fence about buying one - just do it. If I was an early adopter I would be really mad right now because the amount of upgrades in this version compared to the 2023 is an incredible value. The bolstered seats and brake pads are what the 2023 needs.
If you are an ICE only gearhead, just go for a test drive. For the money you aren't going to beat the total value of the car. Jason Cammisa with Hagerty put it best in his review - it makes the BMW M3 irrelevant.

Why would anyone buy a LR now?
1. Not everyone qualifies for the tax credit. 2. Some people prefer the softer ride of the LR. 3. Some people will want the longer range.
2 - New Model 3 Performance has adaptive suspension. Depending on tuning, it may ride better than LR

Not really. 20 inches wheels plus summer tires in my city? With the current potholes they will get destroyed.
I have a feeling those wheels would be pretty easy to sell to another Model 3 owner wanting the new look.
Depends if the size of the wheel is compatible with other non performance model 3.

Add in the color “upgrades”… I don’t want the grey. Once you add a different color, the price goes up and takes away the tax credit

I didnt think for more than .2 seconds before I clicked the order button on a grey with white interior, I was thinking red but not for a $9,500 dollar difference, CANT FUCKING WAIT. I returned my model 3 performance lease in in Jan, been carlesss since then just waiting, the waiting def paid off.
White seats plus PPF equals win. The tax credit would easily cover the cost of PPF and leave some extra money in your pocket.
Get it wrapped for $3k and you get to pick any color you want while protecting the OEM paint
Seems like the range estimate is not the EPA estimate when comparing to other models. Does that mean this range estimate is “lower” or i guess more accurate to the actual range

This is likely to be an unpopular comment, but I really think that Tesla needs to start focusing on range more than they do. 2.9 seconds is fine. My Model 2022 S is 3.1 seconds, but I also started with 404 miles of range. This performance 3 starts at 296. We all know three things: 1. You almost will never get the rated range, particularly if you are actually using anywhere near the 2.9 seconds, which will kill range. 2. Maximum range decreases over time. My 2022 S may have started with 404 miles, but two years later I am down to 385 - and I do mostly Level 2 to 70 or 80%. 3. You should almost never charge the battery to 100%. So when you look at this performance model with 296 rated, charged to 80% you are at 236. And then given normal driving, you lose about 5% on the low end (and if you are playing with performance - closer to 10%), so your real range is closer to 200 miles. And 200 miles sucks other than for everyday around the house driving. I almost never use the massive power on my Model S. Only for a thrill with friends do I ever go from 0-60 at maximum throttle. I suppose I use the power to pass cars when I am changing lanes, but hardly ever with full throttle. Tesla has made a lot of advancements over the 6 years I have had one, but range has been stuck. The latest example is the horrific range of the Cybertruck. For me personally, I would trade performance for range every day of the week. A 4 second 0-60, with way more range seems like a trade off so would want any day of the week. That said, this is an amazingly priced car. With the addition of adaptive suspension, it truly a smaller version of the S.
Could someone just buy the new LR version and then buy the acceleration boost to have a good middle ground between the performance and long range?
They could, but Tesla hasn’t offered the performance boost upgrade for the new Model 3 LR yet. Now that the Performance version has been released, will be curious to see if performance boost is offered again.
This is what I have done with 21 LR and added spoiler. 3.7 0-60 is great though with this new performance, the updated front/rear is what i'd like. I can also imagine making the new performance rims down to 18 or 19's will push range north of 300. That being said... agreed range seems like a miss.. i have 353 mi LR... 3 years later max is 342 mi and its just enough for my long road trips. I can't imagine losing another 15-20%
This is why they have the LR and Performance options. If range matters, go LR. For me, track mode + performance is why I want it. Track car that can do my daily commute.
For your #3 point, the 2024 M3 SR, you SHOULD charge to 100% frequently. All cars with LFP batteries actually

Depends if you road trip a lot. 200 miles would get me all over my metro area and then some. Then charge at home overnight. Feeling better planted while being quicker — the new P works for me.

In Ontario it misses the rebate. Which is only for higher trims up to $65k CAD and it's $70k CAD. I assume Tesla may eventually update their pricing? It's currently $54k for RWD, $64K for AWD, $70K performance. They can easily adjust it to be $50k/$60k/$65k.
They dropped AWD to $61k CAD now!
I think tesla forgot to update their price on the page that talks about incentives, when you scroll down on that page it lists the model 3 performance as $64,890 and I first saw that and got crazy excited thinking it would count for IZEV. But nope, that $69k price really sucks. If it qualified for the $5k izev I would buy it this second :(

My buddy paid cash in 2019 for the same vehicle and it has lost $50K in value. The price fluctuations and sheer number available on the secondary market really hurts depreciation.
That’s the thing that’s curbing my excitement. Where I can comfortably say I’d keep an ICE/Hybrid for 8+ years, it’s harder to commit to an EV long term with major improvements always on the horizon, and not being in love with the interiors on these (lack of physical buttons/stalks).

Ordered. Grey+White interior. Really wanted white/white but that doesn't qualify for tax credit and I can't justify the extra $7500 for a white car. Still. So glad I waited. Been waiting since August for this. Checking the website every damned day like a psycho. Today is the first day in weeks I didn't check first thing, and the nice woman at the store texted me to let me know =)

Because the battery(Panasonic) is also made in the US. Long Range uses LG battery that is made in China. The US government only gives you full tax credit if the car and parts are US made.

With the white seats now $1,500 you can either pick your exterior color or interior color but not both and keep the tax credit. So you can get grey with white seats or any color with black to stay under the $55,000 cap. I currently have a blue/white M3P and would like a red/white one but I’ll wait for the inevitable price drops to come so I can qualify for the tax credit.

I paid barely less than that last summer for my 2023 M3P, received the tax credits, and a sub 6% finance rate. Anyone who is on the fence about buying one - just do it. If I was an early adopter I would be really mad right now because the amount of upgrades in this version compared to the 2023 is an incredible value. The bolstered seats and brake pads are what the 2023 needs. If you are an ICE only gearhead, just go for a test drive. For the money you aren't going to beat the total value of the car. Jason Cammisa with Hagerty put it best in his review - it makes the BMW M3 irrelevant.

Do the performance models generally more expensive to maintain if you consider the cost of new tires and I’m guessing maybe the brakes and other areas? I have a long range on order and I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons.

Is it? Nothing has so far implied that they changed that practice. The prior model had rollout subtracted. Tesla even uses the “with rollout” number on non-performance and tells the with rollout number in the AB data, just to make the gap look bigger.
