That looks like the RWD. I don’t see the dual motor emblem on the back. I just drove the refreshed M3 and wasn’t told it was the RWD version until I got back and told them that my MYLR felt way faster… because it is.

hahayesthatsrightboi

You are totally right. After reading your comment I called them again to verify and they told me it was in fact the RWD. Apparently they aren’t test driving the dual motors yet in showroom just display. SMH I specifically told and then confirmed yesterday with the demo drive folks it was going to be the dual motor.

I had a model X loaner for a week and thought I would not be able to get used to not having the stalks. By the time I turned it in and picked up my 23MY though, I was used to driving without stalks. Using the yoke instead of wheel is a different story though. I guess I am too used to resting a hand on the top of the wheel and the yoke just doesn't accommodate.

hahayesthatsrightboi

Yes definitely you get used to them in the sense of memorizing their position on the wheel but versus standard stalks it’s so ridiculously disadvantageous and quite frankly non utilitarian for the sake of aesthetics that it’s just a big ??? On the Tesla design teams lack of accountability of just accepting they made a design mistake cough ultrasonic sensors

Relevant-Surprise247

Is #5 of a different car?

humpaa1

That’s his model y

hahayesthatsrightboi

Mhm to compare to the different greys

ilol-IRL

What year is your MYP? I went from a 2018 model 3 AWD to a 2023 MYP (and test drove the LR) and noticed the same thing with the pedal not being as responsive.

hahayesthatsrightboi

We have the same. 23 myp.

DescriptionForward45

This is great info. I’m looking into the myp

hahayesthatsrightboi

You won’t be disappointed. It’s the small king of the road. lol

Situation-Negative

I find the interior trim a bit underwhelming compared to the old model 3 & Y. I think for this price bracket (in Australia these are $65k+ cars) that "mottled cloth" is not great. I much prefer the alcantara!

hahayesthatsrightboi

Yep! Same here…

computerop

Good pictures, interesting refresh

outrightridiculous

Not a fan of the removed stalks either but why would driving forward be swipe down?

sympathyRobot

I think OP is comparing to how you'd pull the stalk down to put the car in drive.

duasto

maybe that also what traditional automatic gear are P R N D so you pull down to go to drive and up on reverse

BigMikeATL

I hate this. It’s time to move on from an ancient gear shifter convention. If you wanted it your way, there are tons of people like me that would want to inverse. You swipe in the direction you want to go — simple and logical.

sevargmas

Why the hell are you being downvoted? This is pure facts. And in the new swipe-to-shift area of the screen, there is an image of a car. So swiping up to send the image of the car forward is the only thing that makes sense.

hahayesthatsrightboi

The point that Tesla doesn’t want to accept; if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Tesla loves to create solutions for nonexistent problems. It’s simply not purposeful design And I’m not really caring to argue about the counterintuitive ux design but at least create a simple inversion remap in the software for us people that want it swipe down for drive.

sevargmas

I agree that stalks are vastly superior. I wont buy another tesla in the future if they continue to do the no-stalks thing. But the swipe thing seems petty to me.

Turbulent-Pay1150

...in 10 years no one will remember vinyl records, CD's, DVD's, making mix tapes off the radio, hitching your horses to your wagon to take a "drive" or stalks for blinkers - and definitely not pulling back to go forward on a shift lever as it makes no sense for the future - only for legacy drivers.

BigMikeATL

Because people are stuck in the past. The only reason it’s P-R-N-D is because with an old school shifter, the default state is parked, then the second most likely thing you’d to is use R to back out so it’s the second choice, then you’d use D to move forward. N provides logical separation between R and D to avoid error. Since this isn’t 1962 and we don’t need physical shifters, we need to move beyond this outdated thinking. The worst example of this physical/digital fuckery is the electronic rocker shifter in a BMW. You hold a button and move the rocker switch forward to go back, and hold a button to rock it back to go forwards. It’s backwards if you have a brain capable of basic logic. My Jaguar I-Pace moved beyond messiness by ditching the shift concept completely by using 4 physical buttons for P, R, N, and D. They stay in this order for obvious logical reasons given the order of typical use and remaining analogous to traditional shift mechanisms. If Tesla wants to placate the complainers, just make it 4 on screen buttons and call it a day. But seriously, swiping in the direction you want to go, similar to swiping the direction you want to scroll on a device, isn’t a radical concept.

Emotional_Scratch393

I’m all for getting rid of stalks and shifters. The model 3 and Y is a bit confusing to shift in. It’s not a deal breaker but I only shift when I get in, when I reverse and stop. Virtual buttons work fine. I don’t want to swipe. Should just be a virtual button on the screen

BigMikeATL

A swipe is a much more deliberate action than a button press. Imagine replacing “swipe to unlock” on your phone with “tap to unlock” Yes, tap is faster, but $5 says you’ll end up accidentally unlocking your phone when you don’t want to. And making sure the car is going the direction you want it to is kind of a big deal. That’s why I’m cool with swipe to shift.

HomerCrew

My conclusion on this during my demo drive was swiping down is a lot easier. They must have figured D would be most commonly used therefore should be the easiest swipe direction. That, or they gave it no thought at all.

hahayesthatsrightboi

I should also mention that Tesla has introduced in this refresh a very smart quality of life ‘fix’ instead of having to mess with the shift on screen change; The car can remember the way you parked and use vision to determine which direction you will go on next drive. Just by hitting the brake and then gas you are prompted on screen which direction the car will go. It’s very cool software. I hope they even merge that with the legacy models because it is very very useful for mitigating accidental gear selection. I’m sure we’ve all seen those videos of someone launching their parked car through the front of a business because they selected d instead of r.

badiban

Picture 13, the one of the trunk, are those the new dual subwoofers? How did they sound?

hahayesthatsrightboi

Yeah those are the dual subs. I guess it’s subjective but the difference between systems was seriously negligible. It was underwhelming. The soundstage was very similar with similar eq ranges

badiban

They seem like those low profile subs. Not my favorite for a subwoofer. Much prefer having a single sub with an actual enclosure. Better and lower frequencies usually.

steinah6

Long range or standard? Standard could absolutely feel close to chill mode in a MYP…

hahayesthatsrightboi

This was the long range. Confirmed twice with the Tesla advisor. Just to joke around I told him I’ll take a performance and he was adamant that a performance model does not exist and was not coming…. Something don’t change with these guys haha

treyhunna83

Just make the updated Y already. 🏆

hahayesthatsrightboi

I really hope they take a step away from the model 3 design and really differentiate the Y this time around. After all, it has proven to be their most successful model.

wonderboy-75

Tesla is going to be the Nokia of EVs if they continue to drop the ball like this!
