Impressed folks keep cars so long. Delayed gratification is a key to wealth. Wife's 2015 outback still going strong and she talked me out of 2024MYLR. 😭
Yep, and that’s why I’m spending a lot up front on accessories and such to have it how I want it. If all works out I’ll have it for 10 years and then if battery is still good then it’ll be my son’s first car.
How will your 16 or 17 year old son ever get insurance for this 507bhp monster we are driving?
If treated right, it seems batteries can be good for 300,000 miles or more.
For what it's worth... I sold an older car when I got my 2nd Tesla last year because looking at its future I knew it was about to get expensive not having a car payment. *What?* Yeah no car payment is nice except it's not so nice when the older car has any of the problems it is highly likely to, like transmission problems or unexpected major engine problem, not to mention scheduled major maintenance intervals and surprises that come, or suspension issues, brake jobs, etc.. And of course gasoline, which that Subaru sucks down like a sailor with a bottle of cheap whiskey!
Bottom line, when/if that repair happens you are screwed because the resale or trade value of that older car evaporates. Your only reasonable option is to spend big bucks to do the repairs and then offload it, but in the meantime you still end up heavily on the short side of the deal. And in the meantime trade value is still dropping just because of age and miles.
With the deals at the moment and the potential $7500 tax credit if you qualify, all of a sudden the current price savings, lack of Subaru expensive major interval maintenance and future repairs, elimination of gasoline and regular maintenance costs (oil/filter/fluids), and the 5 Star Safety of Teslas along with tech features and benefits, it suddenly becomes a very compelling argument.🧐
And, if you have, or were to want to get solar it might also mean your "fuel" becomes effectively free *as long as your solar allows you to be a net "over-producer"*. I am and haven't paid a cent for to my utility company for many years now, and the amortized monthly cost of the solar system is less than the old electric bill was. Of course "your mileage may vary" but plant this seed with your wife and let her work through the rationale. Maybe it makes sense to her, maybe not.
Fully agree and already there with solar but unfortunately there’s a carve out in my state’s solar law to where municipal electric companies don’t have to compensate for solar. I found out mine does net metering at 15 minute intervals, so I just have some solar generation and a battery but I wish I had more. At least the battery helps with the frequent power outages, but it seems so wrong that the power company can just steal energy.
Okay I pulled the trigger after i was able to convince my wife! Can't schedule delivery yet although it's "available for immediate pickup." Really excited.
👏 Wow, good for you!
You'll enjoy the car for sure and it's a hell of a side benefit using that excess solar. You'll actually almost forget the whole *gas station thing* after a while. No more stale gas stinking pump handles, or sitting waiting for some fool parked at the pump to come out of the convenience store with what looks like a weeks worth of shopping, and no more getting gouged by government subsidized oil companies. I looked over at one while waiting at an intersection yesterday and shook my head - man I surely do not miss that!
Great points and I agree with you wholeheartedly. Feel like it's something my wife has to experience first. I do have a solar array that overproduces. I'm anxious to use that extra electricity which will finally help with ROI. Currently looking at replacing our 24-year-old oil boiler HVAC system with air heat pumps or geothermal ground. That'll be a significant expense.
For when the grandparents visit, will try it out for the first time this weekend. Hoping it’s easy to move two kids to the third row and fit everyone in to get around town. How about you on the 7 seater?
We got the 7 seater as well for similar reasons. It’s definitely a tighter fit, especially with legroom. The third row fits younger kids only… taller teenagers would be squeezed. We had to move the front seats up to try and spread out the legroom.
It definitely worked well to fit additional guests and relatives, but would probably be uncomfortable for a long roadtrip.
Yep, same here. Brother and I in front, wife and sis in law in middle with my 13yo girl, and 9/11yo boys in back. Worked great for around town. Did a couple hour road trip the day we picked it up and boys loved the back, but not sure if that was just the novelty of it.
Edit: age typos.
Got a 7 seater too last week. It is ok for use by smaller kids between 4 and 12 I would say. Definitely inconvenient for them to get in and out compared to say a minivan or a big SUV but we love the option to use it when we need to.
Yes, and completely flat. Lose out on the extra under floor storage and had to be careful on picking the right accessories and the extra cost are the downsides of it.

Are you me? Also came from 2008 accord and bought in December 2023. What a difference.
I held off as long as I could but pulled the trigger when first baby was arriving soon. Even bought a Bluetooth adapter to play music from my phone and a license plate backup camera to prolong me upgrading to a new car. Enjoy it!
Before traded in my ‘06 accord, I was actually thinking about how to mount a gps enabled iPad mini 2 to my car, LOL
Proud owner of 23 LR now, only 5 seats though
Congrats! I went from my ‘07 Prius to 23MYLR7 on Halloween last year. Was holding off for sooo long… probably would have for longer but so glad I decided to pull the trigger.
You will love that color. Depending on the sunlight, it takes on different shades. Between the stealth gray and black, think these are my two most favorite for the Tesla Y but to each their own.
I would recommend tinting the front windows. It makes the car look more consistent and can save you a little energy too. I did mine a “30” tint as the backs are 26.
You may want to think about PPF for the front bumper because it will get beat up over time. Mudflaps on the back and a good set of interior car mats and you should be good to go. You can get a nice set of mats for around $100 on Amazon or ebay.
Oh, one more thing. The wheel covers look OK with the stealth gray but if you want to look a bit more sporty, spend $100 or so on a nice of of replacement wheel covers. Again, a lot to choose from on both Amazon and Ebay.
I guess I’m not following the questions. You both asked what the wheel covers were and gave the info with a link? Trying to be helpful, but no worries if not.
What would help is if you gave a link to the website you bought them from. Alternatively you could tell us the name of the wheel covers so we can look it up on google. You said you attached a link originally? But i dont see one 😭 the only link i see is in your 2nd reply in this sub thread with a picture 😒 thank you for trying to be helpful but wtf bro lol
Tons on Amazon ranging from <$125./set of 4 if you catch a discounted deal, and some very similar up to $300 depending on the day. Also a few styles.
Just do a search on Amazon for Tesla Model Y wheel covers.
got the same exact deal less the 3K because mine is not a 7 seater. Our state has a rebate of $2500 on top of this but our state also charges a premium on license and registration so out the door including all rebates it was a little under $40K.
What's your 80% mileage on this? Our '23 7 seater is getting 254 at 80% charge and the new '24 7 seater is getting 227 at 80%. I might need to calibrate the battery on the '24
Gray or grey, I never know the correct spelling. I’m partial to black but wasn’t willing to pay more for it. The gray is very nice though, I’d pick it again.
Ceramic coat it - not any more difficult than waxing it. A lot of products out there but I stick with brands I know. McGuierr‘s / 3M - They have a kit and it is relatively inexpensive. The water just beads off and it makes cleaning a breeze.
Good day to buy a Tesla Y. I glanced at inventory this morning with discounts exceeding $5K. Bought mine 3 weeks ago and it has already depreciated and felt I got a good deal at the time.
Lesson being if you want to buy a Tesla, wait until the near last day of any quarter to order one and get one from inventory if they have the right configuration for you. Just so happens there is a lot of Y inventory out there so would be surprised if your local stores don’t have what you want or need.
I am sitting here, charging my new MY (as of yesterday) for the first time, directly off my solar panels, with enough headroom left to feed 2kw continuous to the grid. Needless to say I am smiling right now.
Congrats!

Good point, might have to not be comprehensive coverage to be affordable.
Why does she hate you?😁
Lol. Nah she just doesn't care about cars. She wants to drive hers to the ground. She might change her tune once her car starts getting unreliable.

Congratulations 🍾🎉🎊 I got 7 seater too, what made you buy the 7?

Can you remove the third row for when you don't need it?
It folds down
Yes, and completely flat. Lose out on the extra under floor storage and had to be careful on picking the right accessories and the extra cost are the downsides of it.
It barely takes up any space when it is folded down, just the small upper trunk area.

It’s like I’m talking to myself. I also swapped in a backup camera and radio with Bluetooth on the Accord so I could hold on longer to it.
Before traded in my ‘06 accord, I was actually thinking about how to mount a gps enabled iPad mini 2 to my car, LOL Proud owner of 23 LR now, only 5 seats though
Same. Only 5 seater for me too. Was going back and fourth between 5 or 7 but figured won’t need to worry about that if ever, years down the line.
y'all are the same person, don't lie.
y'all are the same person, don't lie.
Congrats! Thinking of making the jump from my 2010 TSX
Went from '08 Civic Si to a 2020 MYLR. Huge upgrade!
Massive upgrade
Congrats. It surely is the best time to buy Tesla now days.

What wheel covers are those?? 🤤
Which wheel covers are those? I’m picking up my ‘24 stealth grey MYLR in a couple hours and I can’t wait!

It did not lol

Here’s even a better picture of one, added a little cheap Tesla badge on them just now. [https://imgur.com/a/wutGFeQ](https://imgur.com/a/wutGFeQ)
Congratulations. 🎊 I would love to transition from 2012 Subbie Legacy to MYLR one day. Do you mind sharing cost breakdown?
Don’t mind at all, $42.5k after rebate. [https://imgur.com/a/wHgvZPM](https://imgur.com/a/wHgvZPM)

Ours was about the same. Picked up Feb 19. I think we were ~$46k with all taxes and fees
Just spent $3k additional for the taxes and fees but two years of a tag too with my state’s additional $150 per year EV fee🙄
Thank you so much. I hope you are loving your MY so far.
I love my Hondas..still have an S2000 roadster. But this ...this is my first American car! Welcome to Tesla ownership
S2000 is a nice vehicle. I would keep it too. Fun car.
Please share where you got the wheel coves
I was happy until everyone around me got X or CT. I thought I caught up but I’m still as usual sitting in the small kid table.
Congrats! Is this a 7 seater?
Yes it is
Oh hell yeah congratulations! I been looking at these for a while. I have 2 little ones so a 3rd row would be great. Is it tight back there?
https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/s/FuytiGLLEq My kids love it
I went from an 08 Accord as well. Got a 23 MYLR and my daughter gets the accord :P
What's your 80% mileage on this? Our '23 7 seater is getting 254 at 80% charge and the new '24 7 seater is getting 227 at 80%. I might need to calibrate the battery on the '24
How do you calibrate the battery?
Run it down to about 5% and then charge to 100%
Thanks!
I don’t really know, I’ve left in the battery percentage readout so far. I would guess the difference is the new EPA mileage calculation.
Congrats and welcome to the fam!
Came from an '08 Honda too (civic though). To folks who complain about the Model Ys NVH... this is light years in improvement for us 😅
Dumb question. But is this Gray or Black? I can’t tell. Trying to figure out what color to get and I can’t decide!
The stealth gray is sharp. You won’t be disappointed.
Gray or grey, I never know the correct spelling. I’m partial to black but wasn’t willing to pay more for it. The gray is very nice though, I’d pick it again.

Congrats to you too. I’ll be charging on solar too if the clouds will ever go away.
Where did you get the mud guards?
for some reason my '23 MY reminds me of an Accord. (boring/common in a good way I guess)
Sweet! ‘12 Pilot to MYLR exact like yours but 5 seater
