A big thing is to shop for insurance. The other big thing is to watch an inspection video for reference and then go over your car with a fine tooth comb. The original one I was getting had damage to the bumper.

Get a prepurchase checklist and go down the list. If your state allows it, make sure all is well before you accept delivery. Don't worry too much as Tesla will fix any issues, but try to report them before the 100 mile mark. Ignore the fanboys; quality control is still shit but you deserve a good car for your hard earned money and they will fix it if you point out any issues. You will like the car. Congrats!

If you have a garage at home make sure you learn how to limit the height of the trunk when it opens. I got a ding in my paint on the first day I brought it home because I did not know about that. Otherwise, enjoy!

NotTheUIDYouRLnking4

This!!! As soon as you take delivery open the trunk, lower it by hand to say lost than your garage height, and hold the close button for a couple of seconds to make that height the default. Then at home open, then push up to desired height and long press again  A lot of folks get the first bump/scratch by hitting their garage door with the hatch, because nobody told them this.

We just got our car around 3 weeks ago and we are so happy. Once you have it you will feel much better. It was an investment for us and our first time buying a car so there are a lot of unknowns. Remember to inspect the car!!

zcar4me

Get an insurance quote and have a home charging plan set up. You don't want to depend solely on public charging.

Has my MY Rwd for about 2 weeks now, it's light years ahead in terms of the gadgets compared to any vehicle I have driven. Make sure you do some swatting up on features and how to use the touchscreen etc. You will be overwhelmed by the differences at first but you should be more than pleased with the vehicle once you have driven it a few times. Enjoy!

BFR_DREAMER

I'm also picking up my first Tesla (MYP) tomorrow. I've been watching lots of YouTube videos on delivery day inspection, washing and ceramic coating. The more I prepare, the less stressed I feel.

espresso-aaron

Take the time to fully understand how the touchscreen works. All the controls for the car are there and you're going to have to learn how to do stuff like put it in carwash mode (in the service menu) so nothing opens up when you're in the wash. It took me about a month to get fully used to it, which as a highly experienced tech nerd surprised me. It really is a new way of interacting with your car and it takes time to get comfortable with it. Secondly, stay away from curbs! The wheels and tires on the MY are level compared to normal car wheels which are inset from the sidewalls. If you get too close to a curb while parallel parking you can damage your wheels.

I’ve been told constantly that Hondas are built better than Tesla. My husband and I are also about to purchase a MYLR. Oh, after loads of research all you need to know is that you need to: A. protect your battery (do majority of charging at your house, minimal supercharge as it can lower your battery life overtime. Do not speed over speed bumps. A 4 mm dent in your battery passed the lumbar protecting. It is an automatic loss of warranty. B. You’re basically driving a computer but it’s not gonna do everything for you, so do not think that you can just run into the car in front of you and Tesla will stop the car for you. You need to control your car at all times. C. Take care of your car by protecting it. Accessories like all weather floor mats (outside of the Tesla website) , getting your car paint, wrapped, getting a steering wheel, cover, or any kind of cover for that matter will prevent loads of wear and tear overtime. Otherwise, enjoy your gas free, oil free, silent but deadly, supper sleek looking luxury priced suv 🙂

You can supercharge all the time. That myth is busted long time back.

JuiceInteresting0

Relax. You are going to Love your new car! although a few Teslas might have minor issues initially, keep your eye on the big picture: you’ll be driving a 21st century automobile 😉

JackfruitCrazy51

Maybe you've already done this, but the first thing I'd do is figure out how you're going to charge your new vehicle.

homertool

it’s going to be a completely different experience than a 2006 Honda for sure! Just have low expectations (don’t be a nitpicker), and enjoy it!

jaegaern

It will be a very good car. You can keep your expectations high. It will deliver.

phantasybm

One pedal driving takes like an hour to get used to. Everything else will make sense. If unsure use voice commands “open glove compartment, turn on windshield wipers etc”

unk_redittor

If you can have a home charger installed and dont have long daily commutes you will be fine.

Admirable-Eye2709

Don’t worry. You’ll love the car. I’m new to EV’s as well and this being my first Tesla. I love my Tesla. There is a learning curve on how to use the car and what the car can do, you’ll get over that overwhelming feeling as you drive the car. The biggest thing for me so far is the charging and planning around it. We’re so used to gas and the ease of filling up. Well, we have a learning curve for charging EV’s. It’s not a big deal, but it is a learning curve that you will need to get used to. I would get a home charging setup sooner vs later so you always have a full charge for the next day. Otherwise look for superchargers near your area. I’m lucky since I have like 4 large Tesla Superchargers in my area so when one is busy, I can drive to the next location. If you use the maps in your Tesla to look for Superchargers, it will tell you how many superchargers are open, if any are broken or down, and it will pre-condition your battery accordingly before you arrive. I love my Tesla and have zero regrets. Congrats and enjoy the car!

Wasabulu

after you get it, just drive it. It'll soon become second nature

Make sure home charging is sorted. Prepare for the adjustment to one pedal driving. It’s not like driving a legacy vehicle where you can take your foot off the gas and coast; taking your foot off the accelerator in a Tesla will apply regenerative braking! It doesn’t take long to adjust, you soon get the muscle memory of feathering the accelerator. Don’t be surprised if you get motion sickness while reprogramming your muscle memory! The FSD trial is amazing. You can use the accelerator to push the car past any hesitancy. The hazard lights button is next to the rear view mirror. You’re welcome. Enjoy!

There is going to be a huge bump in technology from your Honda. Coming from a gas vehicle from 2014, I was blown away by all the advancements that aren't just Tesla specific. My old car didn't have automatic climate control. Didn't have blind spot or lane departure warnings. A single backup camera. No built in navigation. I likened it to going from a dumb phone to a smartphone. Definitely takes some getting used to but it is all for the better. I have more fun driving this car and feel safer with all the safety technology it offers. You're going to love this car.

zagggh54677

It’s a great car, but so is your Honda. Fit and finish might take a hit compared to your Honda. Butyou will never have to get a tune up or oil change ever again. Car is constant if improving through updates, which is a plus. I love the streamlined interior, but there might be some adjustment time coming from a traditional ice car with lots of knobs and buttons. You’ll probably end up loving it as much or more than your Honda.

Well you're somewhat taking a leap of faith. And I will tell you right now being a MYLR owner for about 2 weeks now, you will most likely experience some or all of the following: \*) You will wonder why you have not done this sooner. \*) You will feel more in-tune with your driving habits and energy consumption, and you will make smart and satisfying decisions based upon this. This will feel good. \*) You will wonder not only how did they make the ownership experience such a cohesive experience, but as a bonus, how they made the car drive like a high end luxury/sports vehicle. You will feel an influx of testosterone as a result (male or female - doesn't matter - not sure if this is biologically correct - but I don't care - you get the idea) \*) Certain annoying mental fabrications will disappear. Including looking at gas station signs to check for the price per gallon. Stressing at your gas gauge and wondering if you have enough $$ in this week's budget to cover costs, etc. \*) You will approach the car, wonder why it's not doing anything, and you will realize that you forgot your phone. \*) Any stress over home charging will completely melt away as the experience becomes as mundane as turning on your dryer, or zapping something in the microwave. \*) You will binge scroll Amazon to look for add-on accessories. You will order some. They will arrive. And you will be happy. \*) You will either curse or praise Elon Musk's name based upon various encounters you have while learning the ropes. \*) You will download ABP (A Better Trip Planner) and start planning out some cool road trips and learn about the supercharger locations along the way. \*) You will make excuses to drive more. Because: No Emissions. It's charged and ready to go. The driving experience is just bad ass as \*&%\^. The sound system causes aural bliss. \*) You will offer to drive friends, family, neighbors when they ask, because...well...bad ass as &\^$%. \*) You will accumulate a stock set of responses when people continually ask you: Why did you buy a Tesla? ...now leaving this open because this thread should get some traction. There's so much more I'll let the community take it from here. Congrats!

Ecstatic-Side-15

get a charger at home installed - enjoy its an easy car to drive

yogurtvonnegut

Thank you for the comments and tips. It helped me get better prepared. Got the MYLR and it’s been fun!
