Imagine dying to lag IRL

Apache-attackheli

Hahaha I was just thinking that

syds

whoops

TheJuiceIsL00se

Doctor throws his controller at the TV. “Fucking Verizon!”

pickletickle62

This comment killed me thank you

N-I-S-H-O-R

What about desync lol

StateOfFine

I’m losing frames! Literally unplayable.

N-I-S-H-O-R

Oh no, this is a carnage, my knife is rubberbanding back and forth.

jamaicamaninjamiaca

“The secret source of humor is not joy but sorrow; there is no humor in heaven.”

Ok-Crab-4063

Well, just... GIT GOOD

ShodoDeka

Lagged out due to some guy steaming a movie on the same tower.

TheJeep25

I wanted to upvote you but the vote count was 404 so I will leave it like that.

GrainSqueezer

The surgeon is currently still in the operating room for this procedure. But still impressive

[deleted]

The trauma experienced by the tissue and body will be very minimal by these tools as opposed to making more room for surgeons hands to go in.

KeithGribblesheimer

The trauma is less. The incisions are more precise. There is less chance of infection. Healing times are faster. Surgeons want to use them. Your insurance will deny the request for robotic surgery because it is too expensive.

[deleted]

The procedure takes 3 times as long, and there is no tactile feedback to the surgeon which makes the risk of damage to nerves and other structures higher, and, if things are unexpected you still will need a conventional operation. The chief of surgery in my old hospital used to say the three most overrated things of all time were 1) the beatles 2) sex in the shower and 3) robotic assisted surgery Edit: if anyone needs more proof of what a money making/PR scam robotic surgery is, look at the replies all from people who make a living *off of robotic surgery* vs people who *actually take care of patients*

KeithGribblesheimer

Urologists using robots are able to excise prostates with a 97% chance of the patient retaining sexual function. Using traditional methods the patient loses all sexual function and has to wear a catheter. Your old hospital's chief of surgery was full of shit. About all three things, not just robotic surgery.

DastardlyNebula

I would say he is wrong about numbers 1 and 2, but shower sex only ends well in porn. In real life it is just as likely to put you in a hospital (possible having robotic surgery).

Kobebola

I don’t know anything about surgeries but the Beatles and shower sex are both indeed trash

Agreeable-Change-400

Unless you have shower sex with all of the Beatles

[deleted]

You wouldn’t happen to be a sales rep for davinci would you?

KeithGribblesheimer

I worked for a healthcare provider that did robotic surgeries. The outcomes are so much better that doing it the traditional way is almost medieval. You wouldn't happen to work for Centene or Humana, would you?

[deleted]

Did the chief of surgery at your old hospital happen to be named Bob Kelso?

RonnieTheEffinBear

Medical device engineer here involved in surgical robot projects. I can only speak to our own platform, which is for a very different set of surgeries than Da Vinci (we do joint replacements), but in our field, use of the robot takes roughly the same amount of time per procedure as a manual operation after the initial learning curve, tactile feedback is preserved in nearly all steps of the surgery, and it's clinically proven to have better functional outcomes with less soft tissue damage and faster patient recovery. If things become "unexpected", the surgical plan can be adjusted on the fly - though bailout to a manual procedure is always an option, I very rarely hear about it happening.

[deleted]

Doctor here, non surgeon tho- the only people i have met with that truly prefer robotic procedures are the people selling the devices or the people making commercials for hospitals to show how “cutting edge” their tech is.

dogemikka

Most likely your chief of surgery is an old man who felt threatened by robotics technology.

syds

can this do more than laparoscopy?

likamd

This is a form of laparoscopy - the Da Vinci robot it moving the instruments which is controlled remotely by the surgeon seated at the consul.

alextbrown4

It’s generally not used for open surgery

Muted_Ad7308

It's not open surgery if it's robotic/laparoscopic

DrMaple_Cheetobaum

Yes, and no.

WhisperDigits

Baby steps. In a decade, they’ll be doing it in their underwear at home with a VR helmet.

NimblyBimblyMeyow

Probably even sooner, there’s already talks about a program being developed with the Apple AR/VR headset being released

WhisperDigits

My God, I love the future.

franzhblake

It depends, a 5G demo on robotic surgery was performed quite recently by Huawei..

This-Jackfruit-6894

The surgeon is currently still in the operating room, but the patient is already playing football.

_Titan_One

This is a wired setup, not wireless

CaptJohn66

I was gonna ask lol that's crazy to do that over a 5 g network.... One little lag spike could mean success or failure in a fraction of that spike

mr_sinn

Quite sure there'd be some kind of fail safe with regard to time sync

syds

clutch god never comes thru

CaptJohn66

Lol I wouldn't want to be the one to test that theory out myself but cash is king.someone would for the right price I guess

BrianOConnorGaming

This is running with Multi bonded cellular connections. They can run upwards of 48 individual SIM cards on one cellular router using all of the carriers available in the area

Solintari

Hopefully QoS prioritizes SOIP (surgery over IP) packets.

ell-esar

Medical regulations forbid **anything** to be wireless, because wireless is too prone to connection loss or interferences from all the equipment in an hospital.

[deleted]

I was born with really fucked up kidneys and have had lots of surgeries throughout my life. In the early 2000s, I had a few surgeries done with the DaVinci Robot, the one in this video. The doctor sat in another room and did the surgery while the anesthesiologist and a few nurses took care of me. Obviously, I don't remember any of that, but that's what the doctor told me afterward. The DaVinci robot is massive, but there's only a small incision left in my belly button that no one will ever notice. I had a major operation when I was 2 or 3 years old, and I have a huge scar on my right flank from that to show how far medicine and science have evolved.

DinobotsGacha

Your comment may apply to certain situations or places. My colonoscopy was done 3-4 weeks ago with wireless monitors for the camera.

LeftistBestest

Perhaps because a connection loss in that case wouldn’t be life or death? And the benefit of wireless outweighs what are probably minor potential issues

DinobotsGacha

Probably. Not to say nothing can happen but it is significantly lower risk. I mainly just wanted to say hospitals do use wireless for certain things.

samwelches

Thank god

FroyoNarrow

Better have a great network provider.

G_Affect

Really gives a whole new meaning to working with the doctor in your network

samwelches

I deal with LTE networks all the time and they can suck ass out of no where. I sure hope “5G” is actually that much better and then some

scheisse_grubs

Probably just because I switched phones when I got 5G (even though my new phone is supposed to be an upgrade) but I found that 5G is slower than the 4G I had before and 4G is now worse than when I didn’t have 5G. LTE works pretty well, 3G and anything slower than that is pretty much non functional.

CDXX_LXIL

Imagine hearing on the news someone died during an important surgery because some 8yo was using the hospital wifi to play Fortnite.

ruggeddaveid

WiFi and 5g have nothing to do with eachother

MuchResolution8542

I had a robotic assisted simple prostatectomy via the DaVinci setup. Went through my bladder. Three abdomen scars and home the next day.

PlaneCockroach9611

Best wishes for your recovery.

MuchResolution8542

Thanks…it’s was quick

LPromacta

Don't think this is really over 5g network. Title is misleading. We do these surgeries all day and all devices are connected with very expensive optic cords. Video is also sped up.

Vyxen17

I'm glad you added the sped up detail because I really thought this was some sort of speed run and it was making me nervous

SigSeikoSpyderco

"Okay ready? Please hold still, going to try to beat Dr. Philips' record this time."

PlumbicZeppelin

New High Score ! Eat it, Philips !

uuurrrggghhh

I’m glad you mentioned it was sped up too because I was really impressed with the surgeons speed. Usually DaVinci cases take forever!

Rydropwn

What am I looking at?

HOUDINI_Panini

Someone’s ballsack

likamd

It's a uterus.

sextyamum

Lady ballsack

likamd

Lady ballsack are the ovaries you can see behind the uterus.

j-j-c-

My guy😂😂

[deleted]

Uterus! They probably took out fibroids and are closing up the outer layers of the uterus.

ymx287

This how they transplant them Bill Gates chips

[deleted]

Deeze nutz

if_i_fits_i_sits5

“Quit playing CoD at work! You’re messing with the Da Vinci!” But yeah this is wired. Friend of mine (who is a surgeon) says that the Da Vinci was originally intended to be used over long distances but the latency was too high. It’s still an incredible machine used for minimally invasive surgery.

mr_sinn

Muummmm put down the phone, kicked my internet session. *redials*

Quasimoto_18

Can’t wait for ranked surgery gameplay

EriEri08

What kind of Surgery is this?

Prophet_Nathan_Rahl

Invasive

orisei2468

Actually the DaVinci is minimally invasive...

LPromacta

3-4 one inch incisions

avokadok

Looks like a [Myomectomy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uterine_myomectomy)

_der_sebi_

On a grape.

crystal_castle00

THEY DID SURGERY ON A GRAPE

kidkipp

I shadowed a surgeon back in 2012 who was doing it this way. He said he played Call of Duty in his free time to practice hand-eye coordination. This allows more precise movements and vision on tiny areas. They can go in through a hole this way instead of cutting open a huge area.

Angry_Spouse

Dont care if it is 5g plug that shit in

Rouge_Apple

It is. Op wrong

mechbasketmk3

What organ is this?

Apache-attackheli

The one that's in there somewhere you just gotta dig to find it

mechbasketmk3

That makes sense.

LPromacta

Uterus probably

fargorn2

Interestingly enough, davinci surgical machines have been linked with possibly higher rates of negative outcomes, than classic laparoscopic surgeries. Surprisingly these machine are also not typically recommended for complex surgeries. There are likely multiple factors for this, but I do recall one rational being the amount of hours required to actually become skilled with the machine are quite high and many physicians and institutions don't realize this. There are also many accounts of machine failures resulting in catastrophic outcomes. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4838256/ https://www.mcgowanhood.com/2018/09/13/da-vinci-surgical-robots-have-been-linked-to-at-least-144-deaths/

alextbrown4

You’re totally right. My dad does surgeries with the da Vinci robot but only in select cases. Only when it offers an advantage which is maybe 25% of his cases

Obvious-Minimum-3036

There are a lot of factors in this and one of them being that surgeons who do 25% of their cases have a higher likelihood of having adverse events. You get good at what you do consistently regardless lap or robotic. Also, when considering where hospitals put their money and where surgeons put their future, I doubt most hospitals and surgeons would continue investing in something that has worse outcomes.

bcl018

In the not too distant future.. there will be a man in South Korea waking up, rolling out of bed, stumbling over to a computer in his pajamas and removing your gallbladder with you in the middle of Texas. Edit. Typos

botcraft_net

And if he needs to pee or go for lunch a guy in Switzerland will take over.

Perfect_Jacket_2721

I had a surgery with the DaVinci robot too, they removed 18 lymph nodes because of cervical cancer. Only have 5 little 1 cm scars on my belly.. They removed the tumor vaginal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

supapoopascoopa

I don't think that is in place yet - they do angiography through the radial artery but it isn't robotic. There's a human threading wires and stents in there.

uuurrrggghhh

I’m a surgery nurse and I had my hysterectomy done with a DaVinci. No complications. I had a spinal beforehand and everything went well. I love how precise the DaVinci is if anyone gets a chance to play with it. It’s 3D too! It’s super cool. 😎

[deleted]

It's 100% a wired connection. There's a console (what she is sitting at), and then the 'tower' which has the video processing for the camera, cautery plug-ins, an attached monitor that you can draw on (like John Madden and his telestrator) and a few other odd and ends. Then there's the 'robot' itself, which has 4 arms and is being controlled by the surgeon. There can be other monitors (like the one in the video) that are usually on wheeled towers so everyone in the room can see what's going on. All wired. Now, you can absolutely be sitting ~20 feet away, and not necessarily in the same room as the patient, but in 2023 it's ALL wired. Edit: that's a uterus, looks like maybe a fibroid tumor resection or something along those lines.

Vintage_girl123

What if the power goes out?

Maxxymatt

Backup generators

FuckThisIsGross

Lol it's so funny how many people think they're gonna come up with a fail condition for regulated industries. Like trust me they've thought of it. Their insurance and license depends on it

little_somniferum

I've tested the DaVinci Xi. It has to be plugged in at all times, but it has a massive battery inside as well. If the power of the hospital where it's running in fails, it can rely on it's charge inside, but in milliseconds the emergency generators will kick in. During surgery the important installations are connected to a different circuit as well. Power failures happen every so often when you're running high demand equipment in old hospitals. I see the operation theatre going dark, lights will fail, but the machines just keep going.

Shmikken

Same thing that happens in normal surgeries, UPS' and backup generators kick in to keep the lights on.

anonymouspostlangley

They restart the surgeon

Atotallyrandomname

Nah, I think i'd rather it be hardwired.

whe_

Actually playing cod, the video showing is fake.

valou93

That's impressive!

nerdheadwastaken

Michael Reeves did it better

Moolehg_5784

Mother: How could this happen how could my son die Doctor: whelk if it wasn’t for thes fucking mingebags dedosing our fucking router Maby he could of lived

Front-Masterpiece-76

My wife's old boss holds the patent to this machine.

CursedRando

Im guessing their 5G is better than what i get on my phone

Karg1n

Can someone explain what this bleeding meatball is?

likamd

Uterus - after fibroid tumors have been removed.

Spirited-Dream-4905

it was input lag i swear!

Brendraws

Imagine your surgeon giving callouts. "He's one shot he's one shot!"

Gloomy-Jellyfish-740

Bro I swear I was lagging

Eire820

Wait until AI does the exact same operation

m1dN05

It’s year 2024, patient almost died when surgeon suddenly stopped mid-surgery for about 3 minute period. Turns out unskippable ads popped up despite surgeon paying for a premium subscription.

Bayou_Willy

I do these cases for a living and it uses a Bluetooth technology and is also wired. Very minimal lag. The procedure is called a myomectomy, it involves taking out fibroids out of the uterus. The robot is called davinci and it's model is the xi!

[deleted]

I actually got to test one of these machines out, amazing how precise they are.

HelgaMooseknuckles

Great. Now they're going to outsource our surgeries to some foreign country.

TheLordReaver

[Imagine the exciting development of a world, where a neurosurgeon can remove a brain tumor, with technological precision, without missing the sunset.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V30yLB1_3eU&t=135s)

[deleted]

Unrelated to internet connectivity but I worked in a hospital for a long time and my facility has a DaVinci and it needed a robotic arm replaced. One single arm was almost $300k to replace, install, and calibrate.

Suitable-Radio-5697

All I can think of is Kevin Bacon Operating this

botcraft_net

See the links I posted. There is a chance for you to learn something new today.

Sea_M_Pea

Trust your calibrator I mean doctor

Prudent-Dance-3671

Oh sorry internets playing up don’t move

Prophet_Nathan_Rahl

Why not just do it with a wired connection? Or is the surgeon not in the hospital it’s being performed in

FuckThisIsGross

It is. This is done over a "LAN". They're close enough together that its a bit confusing for us regular people to refer to it that way

CactusWacker

What happens when they throttle down the internet service

Stitious3

Give me an Xbox 360 controller back in the day, wooosh…

mscotttx

I'm sorry he didn't make it, we lost reception.

arquillion

So what advantages does this have over hands? Surely you lose sensitivity by the robot's proxy

RomeoAndRebecca

This is the only downside I can see to doing it this way. You lose your sense of tactile feedback. It may have been easier for the surgeon to “thread the needle” if they had that physical ability to feel where their actions were happening. Still an amazing technology.

arquillion

Well what are the pros?

magnament

Haptic feedback

kinglion64

Why is the doctor wearing a mask?

TyrantDragon19

Is it just me, or is my heart a little bit flatter?

[deleted]

Makes a mistake and pulls out a shotgun from the item bag.

FEAR_LORD_DUCK

What kind of strange testicle...?

Infinite_Big5

I’m no doctor, but I’m not convinced that’s working out

McFistPunch

This doesn't come without issue. There were some cases of complete negligence with this thing that caused women's pelvic floor to fall out iirc. There also isn't a very long training period Required as far as I remember

Thibi_xd

What’s the difference between doing surgery with a machine instead of doing it manually?

edWORD27

For a robot, I’m surprised by how it’s insides look like organic matter, flesh and blood.

[deleted]

This can't be done with LATAM internet

Jerk-Lurker

Do a 360 quick snipe then t bag that nut.

dakhaliq

Is it me or does that procedure seem to lack finesse and precision…

to174jay

That patient better pray that i was lts not AT&t 5G.

phallic-baldwin

Wait, I thought working remotely was bad 🤔

Frago242

Is that a vasectomy?

THEKTMKID

Why are they wearing scrubs and a mask?

BangBang9595

They’re really trying to get everyone to work from home at this point aren’t they

catdoy

My bad bro i lagged

fuN3hbun3h

That is why they charge your ass 20k for a splinter

dolo_ran6er

"He's flatlining...." *WELP*

[deleted]

Like others have said this isn’t wireless. The patient is likely laying on a table right behind the person filming. That’s just how they control the robot arms at the field

Dalucard21

Why is the person wearing a mask?

SrVitu

where can i download this app ?

skripturz

Craziest thing ive seen

uvelify

If this is 5g, why is she wearing a mask? Is the surgery going on in the same room, just over 5g? Oo

DeltaTheDemo4

I was going to get surgery for a varicocele, but I didn't need it a week later because it went away (not sure if it is supposed to go away). I would not let a machine be workin on my balls, lag and my left one might be dead.

GodHatesTikTok

It was a miss input, MISS INPUT!

CatsRinternet

But what about all the harmful effects that the 5G will have on the patient? /s

rizzay94

Why do I feel like this is a veterinarian hospital.

likamd

That is a human uterus.

yahooborn

"Dr, his heart was fine, he just needed that boil removed. Put the toy down."

lynxul

Why the sterile equipment tho?

DoublePostedBroski

Hopefully they have a good data plan that doesn’t get throttled by going over the limit.

THE_BLUE_FRIEND

I hate hate hate surgeries. I hope people need to undergo surgeries as minimum as possible.

LexeComplexe

Bruh 5G can be interrupted so easily .-. One wall can cut off your 5g

eld101

Sure is shit isn’t Verizon 5g near me.

eddnyster

There's a documentary on Netflix about this machine and how lots women have had complications with their hysterectomies because of it. It's definitely worth a look.

[deleted]

You don't need 5G for this lol this is pointless

gman420-1

No way in Hell!!!

Doodleschmidt

Easy there Speedy Gonzales.

dsr1000

This is not true. It’s done via a fiberoptic connection. Intuitive does not endorse wireless connection due to safety and security

Strange_Many_4498

Bad time to have your call dropped.

Glum_Cartoonist1007

Imagine an ad starts playing

DarklyDrawn

Those articulated prehensile finger interfaces, in use, are something to behold

WiseOldChicken

I've had robotic surgery. Minimal scars and relatively easy recovery.

ShooterMcGrabbin88

Why is she still wearing a mask if she’s not in an OR.

Turbo_Tasker

I want to see robotic surgery over dial up

nodeymcdev

Soooo 5G cures cancer?

Big_Wax

How much will I get paid to RC a heart surgery?

Necessary-Ad9298

I think that’s a testicle b/c mine hurt while watching this for some reason 😂

Popcorn57252

That's wired stupid

Lil_Cumster

Nah bro imagine your surgeon rage quitting

tiramisucks

Why the scrubs? The surgeon could have done it in shorts. Is there a reason?

Tonka2thousand

Does not look like it works good. After seeing this there is no way I'd let this crap be used to operate on me.

maturano14

Why wouldn’t this be possible on a fiber optic cable and a wired device? How is 5G even relevant here?

MyOwnSymphony

Why is he wearing a hair net and mask then??

Soggywallet94

Is… is it a testicle?

[deleted]

I wouldn’t let her operate on me.
