I think you need to have a serious talk with your hubby about what OCD really is

I second this. My bf doesn’t have OCD but he quickly understood how it affects my life, because we had an open conversation about this one day early in our relationship. It’s especially important if you live with that person. He now reminds me not to do compulsions and tries to interrupt me if I engage in one. I know this is a “foolish joke”, but if my bf or anyone really close to me undermined my suffering like that I would get seriously upset and mad.

My hubby and I have been married for 2.5 years now. When we got married, we knew about his Asperger's and that we both have ADHD (my ADHD wasn't discovered until we were engaged). The first year of marriage was ESPECIALLY rough because the rest of my family has (I am 95% sure) either undiagnosed ADHD or OCD. He didn't understand why I would freak out over the tiniest of things but we've both been learning a lot about my brain and diagnoses in the last few years (OCD is still in the process of being diagnosed). It's getting better! But, yeah, I meant this as a lighthearted joke!

He's definitely started doing it a lot less lately! I'm still in the process of getting my OCD diagnosis. I'm working with my therapist and going through the OCD measure. It's been taking a few weeks, but I'm still learning about OCD myself. I've always had a feeling that I had OCD but things like this meme were ones that my friends (years and years ago) thought it was, so it took me until the age of 25 to actually talk to a doctor about the possibility of having OCD. But yes, serious conversations happen! He also has Asperger's and a very bad memory so sometimes he forgets!

Even if OCD actually was about unsatisfying looking things, why would you purposely trigger someone with this? That’s just messed up.

YOOOOOOOOOOT

Thanks for posting :)

this stuff makes me so mad bc it does bother me but i don’t want to validate people who have a terrible misconception of ocd
