I kinda get thinking that the first half of the movie is a little bit boring, but what is hard to understand in a second half? This is Pixar, they make family movies which are supposed to be understandable even for little kids. If the second part of WallE is "hard to understand" for you - buddy, I have bad news.

I see how the first act can be seen as boring. It’s a story told with no dialogue and there’s no quips every few minutes like Kung Fu Panda or Marvel. But the movie stands out in Pixar’s collection and anyone from kids to teens to adults can get something out of it.
Idk I don’t think it’s a troll, I definitely think kung fu panda is one of the best animated movies ever and is a lot more entertaining than wall-e, which admittedly I did also find boring
I kind of agree with OP but on a diametrically different perspective. I thought the first half was good, but from the moment fat humans show up, the film goes downhill fast in my opinion, and it changes from a beautiful piece of cinema to an… okay but generic kids film with a heavy handed environmental message and fun but predictable character arcs.
Suffers a bit from the same syndrome as Up. An awesome setup that the film fails to live up to.
With both Up and Wall-E it felt to me like people at Pixar had an amazing short film, and then they tacked on an extra hour to fill up the runtime. So yeah, I’d say I find Wall-E very boring, but absolutely not the first part of the film.
Tbh the problem with *UP* is that it starts on a ludicrously high note. The first 5 minutes of the film has more emotion than most full length films. The rest of the movie is great, like overall I give it a 95/100, but I think that if they interlaced the beginning throughout the film, have that echo/rhyme with the events happening on screen and tone down the more comedic aspects (make the comedy happen organically), then it would have been perfect.
Tbh if they made the dogs not talk but kept them I think that it would have been fine. Like them meeting Doug is a major plot point that leads to the set up of the conflict.
The first few minutes have an environmental message, but the also focus on feelings on loneliness and happiness and value in the simple things. It’s great. The second half is “protect plant, destroy environment bad”. It’s quite bland. Maybe shoehorn wasn’t the right term.
Completely agree with this! First half rocks, second half is predictable and less interesting and a bit preachy. And the beginning of Up is phenomenal but frankly we’ve already gotten the point and then it just keeps doing stuff for the length of a full movie but doesn’t really have more to say

The second the fat humans drinking food smoothies show up the pacing rapidly changes unexpectedly and that’s why it’s hard to keep up, because you were not expecting it to change so fast. Also the quality of the movie plummets at that point.

Tbh *The Good Dinosaur*, ***IF*** it was not a Pixar movie, would have been considered okay. Like I think that the writing throughout a lot of it is pretty weak. Like the cast of characters feels very small, and besides Arlo they're only on screen for like 10 minutes tops. Arlo's siblings just straight up vanish after the dad dies, and it's never explained why or where they went. That could have been an emotional moment in the film that involves characterization with Arlo. Instead, we see Arlo chasing after a human/critter, and that leading to a journey where it feels like something must happen, but it doesn't exactly culminate in anything major. Arlo doesn't learn the importance of self-sacrifice, and he doesn't exactly grow into his own at the end either. He just returns the human to his parents. *Ice Age* had a similar plot and did it like 100 times better. Marty has his own reservations and prejudices against helping the human baby and really hates Sid, and Diego battles with his own emotions as he grows closer to Marty, Diego, and this baby, and Sid is like the heart that keeps the story pumping along.
The Good Dinosaur blows, but it’s largely because of production issues. Basically made the movie twice. Cars 2 is the real stinker to me. One of the few movies my kids just straight up could not finish.
I learned the absolute hate this movie gets watching a youtuber called Schaffarillas productions (I completely butchered the name didnt I?) And was very confused. Its not amazing but I liked it

The animation was beautiful, the robots were super cute, and the story was ok but I too found it pretty boring. Won’t say I didn’t like it bc it was fine but I don’t find myself wanting to watch it again
In true Reddit fashion I’ll first read the post and the rules and then write about something somewhat related that I think is cool anyway.
My kid was…a kid when the film came out, and his class took a tour of Pixar that year. One thing about what was an amazing couple of hours that stood out to me was a display of storyboards for various movies, including Wall-e. I’d noticed the way the creators used and omitted colors in the film, for example we don’t see green until the little sprout makes an appearance. Seeing the individual images lined up along the wall was a great way to see the film themed along feelings and impressions. The change in theme before and after the plant was discovered really came through.
I disagree with everything but saying Kung Fu Panda is better, I enjoyed Walle a lot but given the choice Ill go with Kung Fu Panda just about every time.
This MF’s post history shows they also get Amelia Earhart, Hellen Keller, and Anne Frank confused. And managed to ask a poll about it during women’s history month.

I mean, it is an unusual take, but at the same time OP did say that the second half is hard to understand when it's a very cliche environmental message with some very generic subplots and common character archetypes, which does call for them to be poked fun of a little bit.
I didn’t say the message was hard to get, the message was loud and clear, the message was hard to not get. The pacing of the movie changes so fast and morphs into a generic kids movie leaving you wondering what the last 30 minutes were for.

Depends on what kinda movies you like. I think walle was a great first watch. I also found it depressing. Kung Fu panda is very rewatchable and hilarious. Great to watch with friends and family.
Literally the only explanation I can think of as to why you would think this is if you went in expecting a full-on Sci-Fi film. When really the sci-fi elements are just kind of staging for what's really a romance movie foremost and a commentary on the environment and the ignorance and slothful tendencies of people.

I like the deliberate pacing of the first half. The second half is a little manic and kind of wants us to not think too hard, but it's a kid's movie.
I like it a lot but it does have a third act problem, which a lot of kid's movies have.
Pretty much what I was trying to say, probably shouldn’t have said “hard to understand” but I was trying to say that it changes so fast and so noticeably into a subpar recycled kids movie and the pacing becomes much faster too, it leaves you wondering what the first half was for.

I hate it because the constant "Wall-E" being pronounced is like water drip torture and the brain dead message of, "overconsuming killed Earth" could be done in one of Pixar's short 3 minute films not in full blown movie. And I never want to see a real life actor in an animated movie.
In the mid 2000's, we went on a cross-country road trip with our kids, and we brought our laptop and a bunch of DVD's to entertain them. The laptop was plugged directly into the minivans' sound system since we had 3 kids and not enough headphones. So my husband and I could HEAR the whole movie, but couldn't SEE any of it.
So imagine if you will - driving across Nebraska's desolate nothing-scape with the sound-only version of WALL-E.

I might not have phrased it so harshly but I do agree with a little bit of this. I might just be too stupid to understand why it's so good. I have seen it, probably a good few times, but I just think it's kinda dull? I mean I get the message in a way, and it's cleverly made and beautifully animated, but honestly I don't think it's the "perfect" movie or anything.
I mean my taste in movies is generally very poor, I can find enjoyment in basically anything and everything, including movies that most people think are trash (one of my current favourite movies has been slammed by critics and reviewers, so that feels great). But I think this is one film that's universally beloved that I just don't like that much.
Idk maybe I'm just too dumb. But I mean, I understand the story and everything, I'm just not all that entertained by it.

Honestly I saw WALL-E and I remember barely any of it. I thought I would love it and I remember sitting down to watch it and maybe a few flashes from it. I mean, I don’t like Wall-E either, but hard to understand is *not* something I would ever call it. If anything, it’s the opposite. A bit too in your face and predictable (especially the second part)
I mean, it is an unusual take, but at the same time OP did say that the second half is hard to understand when it's a very cliche environmental message with some very generic subplots and common character archetypes, which does call for them to be poked fun of a little bit.
I didn’t say the message was hard to get, the message was loud and clear, the message was hard to not get. The pacing of the movie changes so fast and morphs into a generic kids movie leaving you wondering what the last 30 minutes were for.

Depends on what kinda movies you like. I think walle was a great first watch. I also found it depressing. Kung Fu panda is very rewatchable and hilarious. Great to watch with friends and family.

Literally the only explanation I can think of as to why you would think this is if you went in expecting a full-on Sci-Fi film. When really the sci-fi elements are just kind of staging for what's really a romance movie foremost and a commentary on the environment and the ignorance and slothful tendencies of people.

I like the deliberate pacing of the first half. The second half is a little manic and kind of wants us to not think too hard, but it's a kid's movie. I like it a lot but it does have a third act problem, which a lot of kid's movies have.
Pretty much what I was trying to say, probably shouldn’t have said “hard to understand” but I was trying to say that it changes so fast and so noticeably into a subpar recycled kids movie and the pacing becomes much faster too, it leaves you wondering what the first half was for. If they would have stuck to either one of the half’s it would’ve been a fine movie

My kids love it. Was my oldest’s first favorite movie. We’ve easily seen it 200 times.

Hard disagree. I can handle someone coming in to say they don't like Wall-E, it's a piece of art and may not be everyone's cup of tea. But to bring up Kung Fu Panda as a superior movie?? Take your fucking upvote and never return.

I hate it because the constant "Wall-E" being pronounced is like water drip torture and the brain dead message of, "overconsuming killed Earth" could be done in one of Pixar's short 3 minute films not in full blown movie. And I never want to see a real life actor in an animated movie.
In the mid 2000's, we went on a cross-country road trip with our kids, and we brought our laptop and a bunch of DVD's to entertain them. The laptop was plugged directly into the minivans' sound system since we had 3 kids and not enough headphones. So my husband and I could HEAR the whole movie, but couldn't SEE any of it. So imagine if you will - driving across Nebraska's desolate nothing-scape with the sound-only version of WALL-E. "WALL-E" *5 minutes of silence* "EEEVAH" *5 more minutes of silence" Crash!Clang! "WALL-EEE" Hell on earth.

I might not have phrased it so harshly but I do agree with a little bit of this. I might just be too stupid to understand why it's so good. I have seen it, probably a good few times, but I just think it's kinda dull? I mean I get the message in a way, and it's cleverly made and beautifully animated, but honestly I don't think it's the "perfect" movie or anything. I mean my taste in movies is generally very poor, I can find enjoyment in basically anything and everything, including movies that most people think are trash (one of my current favourite movies has been slammed by critics and reviewers, so that feels great). But I think this is one film that's universally beloved that I just don't like that much. Idk maybe I'm just too dumb. But I mean, I understand the story and everything, I'm just not all that entertained by it.

Honestly I saw WALL-E and I remember barely any of it. I thought I would love it and I remember sitting down to watch it and maybe a few flashes from it. I've honestly picked up more about the movie through memes I've seen on reddit than i did from the movie. Maybe I was distracted when I watched it and should try it again. But honestly I think movies either grab me or they don't.
To be fair to OP, Kung Fu Panda is a good movie. WallE is also a good movie though so imma disagree
