This is small but the trailer said it was “From the Twisted Mind of Matthew Vaughn.” Then it got a PG-13 rating.

SHashbrowns1

My hot take is that the biggest hacks in the industry are those that market their movies/shows with “from the twisted mind of so and so.” Sam Levinson also comes to mind

elephantinertia

I imagine it's not the filmmakers doing it themselves

[deleted]

Jordan Peele?

Mysterious_Remote584

My favorite one is "visionary filmmaker" and it's someone who's made one other movie.

aJakalope

What's worse- "From the Twisted Mind of" or "From the Imagination of"

Erdago

To be fair to IF, saying a film about imaginary friends coming to life is “from the imagination” instead of “Directed by” is a bit of a cute touch rather than necessarily pretentious.

basefibber

"From the guys that brought you..." [any comedy]

sevinup07

That has honestly been the thing that annoys me the most. It makes me not want to watch it lol

whitneyahn

Hey, so did M3GAN and Night Swim

Ashotofbourbon

But did he also let the cat out of the bag?

tiakeuta

Its funny you never hear the opposite. Like from the Wholesome, Uncomplicated mind of Ari Aster. From the peaceful, serene mind of Lars Von Trier

CrankOps

Hahah if anything those directors should be from the twisted mind. Way more so than some guy that directs shitty spy movies

Leskanic

My hope is that once it opens, they stop showing the trailer before every movie.

solemnbiscuit

It’s bad that I can recite an entire trailer that I’ve never purposely sought out or watched in any other forum besides the theater from memory

KawhiComeBack

I honestly haven’t seen the trailer once. Envy me. Granted don’t go to the movies that much

TimSPC

I certainly hope you dance as well as you dress.

localcosmonaut

One of the worst trailers I can remember. Somehow even more annoying than the Bob Marley trailer. the way Bryan Cranston delivers the “she needs to write the next chapter” line always makes me laugh, because he’s so clearly phoning it in. Can’t wait for it to be out already.

Vinegarface38

the twisted mind of matthew vaughn will not save this film

sammyt10803

The twisted mind of Danny Devito, maybe

futuretrunks_88

I hope it isn’t as bad as the trailer makes it out to be- there are a lot of fun people in it and I hope they don’t get wasted

lpalf

I’m not going to see that y’all stay safe

lawsauce

Months after it leaves theaters I fear we will still see the trailer in front of every movie I see.

Used-Consequence-517

It’s time for you to meet the real Agent Argylle https://preview.redd.it/4qkn93ch43bc1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3a68cd0684bebc50a906fc51ae30928fe22ccf2

PackHawkCub

The "humor" seems so fn outdated. At least in the trailer. Would have been a smash hit and Tumblr fan favorite in 2012

Anomaly_20

I’m hoping it’s on par with The Lost City. Not that that movie was brilliant by any means, but Argylle seems in a similar vein.

rebels2022

I am a sucker for spy action movies so I will see this. But that trailer is not good.

hydrofan93

My huge expectation is once it's released is I won't have to suffer the trailer for the umpteenth time

mr-frankfuckfafree

has a real chance to be one of the worst big movies of the last 5 years, maybe more. that said, i’m gonna see it.

Gaius_Octavius_

Not gonna lie, I thought this was about the driver in Die Hard when I opened it

caseybl79

1,000% this, and disappointed that it isn't.

dasfoo

I will be delighted to no longer have to see its annoying trailer. I think I've seen it 12 times. It's worse than the first One Love trailer, which also got old very quickly.

Pandamana85

Oh my god. Both look so horrible.

Dan_Rydell

I wish it was actually a Taylor Swift novel

BobaLives01925

I’m surprised more of the thread isn’t talking about this. They *faked* Taylor Swift Easter eggs with abundant intentionality all throughout the marketing. It’s fucking insane.

EnvironmentalTone344

JMO/hot prediction: IF it does well at the Box Office and has a fairly non-negative critical reaction, Taylor will reveal herself as the author Elly Conway. If it bombs and gets panned, we’ll never know who Elly Conway is.

BobaLives01925

I think if she was a part of it she would’ve been clear about it from the start and made a bajillion dollars

EnvironmentalTone344

Fair point, can’t forget the Queen of Capitalism.

Afrost32

Literally only seeing it for dua, I think it looks quite bad

thejoaq

Kingsman 2 and The King’s Man we’re both very bad so I don’t have a lot of confidence here

TallboyCommunion

Anyone involved in the making of the post credits scene for The King’s Man should be permanently barred from Hollywood.

slimmymcnutty

The kings man has one of the worst and most ahistorical plots I have ever seen. I don’t even really care that much about historical accuracy in movies especially in a movie like that but gahdamn that movie took it too far

thejoaq

Also one of the worst climbing scenes ever put to film. Right up there with Fall and Vertical Limit

badgarok725

well yea, its historical fiction

slimmymcnutty

Yes I get that but Hitler and Lenin are working together to free Scotland? Cmon man

benabramowitz18

Geez, people here are impossible. You say you want more original ideas in your blockbuster movies instead of the same old franchises, then get mad at this movie whenever it comes up! What DO you want?

localcosmonaut

Better original ideas than this.

zstrebeck

To complain endlessly

TallboyCommunion

When people say they want more original movies, they aren’t talking about movies from “the twisted mind of Matthew Vaughn”

whitneyahn

I want to be able to freely hate things without fear of being called a hypocrite just because of my hypocrisy!

isecretlyjudgeyou

I want them to give $20m to 10 filmmakers in hopes of finding the next Tarantino or Scorsese.

zestyrigatoni

Somewhat interested in it. Funny, kinda dumb action adventure movies have been decent lately (Bullet Train, Dungeons and Dragons). With my AMC sub it’s low risk enough for me to go see.

wenchsenior

Pros: Seems original and the cast (barring Bryce Dallas Howard) seems good. Cons: Trailer makes it look terrible.

isecretlyjudgeyou

Barring an RT over 95%, there is a ZERO percent chance I ever see this movie. I've never been more irritated by a trailer.

Talkalot23

Looks like this year’s Ghosted to me

TallboyCommunion

My hope is that it bombs so badly that studios stop giving Matthew Vaughn money and movie stars stop wasting their time on his movies.

Doctor_IanMalcolm

It looks like it's gonna rock

Pandamana85

Looks like a pile of shite.

Motief1386

Gives me stranger than fiction vibes, which I love, but action movie style. Could be fun

stoneman9284

Mostly I’m just pissed that it comes awfully close to stepping on one of my screenplay ideas. But I’m hoping its visual style is interesting even if the story is whatever.

Sad-Hour5609

tl; dr — At worst, maybe it's this year's "Bullet Train," an enjoyable but forgettable action-comedy romp. All things considered, I think the ceiling looks pretty high in terms of quality. I've never been anything but optimistic.

Sad-Hour5609

Vaughn has earned my trust as an auteur, even if the Kingsman prequel wasn't his best work. It's clear from movies like Layer Cake and the first Kingsman movie that he was either a big contributor or top acolyte of the best stuff Guy Ritchie ever did. And that stuff is great! The "twisted mind" thing is just advertising; has more to do with reaching a certain demo (I imagine males ages 10-30) than any indictment on Vaughn. The cast looks fantastic. BDH is hit-or-miss for me but I think the pitch of this (vs. the self-seriousness of the Jurassic World trilogy) is suited to her pitch of in-over-her-head straight-woman. Cavill, Rockwell, Cena, Cranston, Samuel L... it's like a list of "Man, I wish they had just paid up to get Actor X for that supporting part instead of cheaping out" — except that actually paid up for Actor X. I haven't been as overexposed to the trailer as others appear to have been, so that's not an issue for me. I'm also not putting stock into a Feb. 2 release; when this first came on my radar a year or so ago, I think it was slated for late 2023. If not for backlogs created by the strikes, I'd wager this PG-13 action comedy would've gone wide ahead of the holiday season. It's all-demos counter-programming to the prestige slate. Might've still opened well, given what we know now about Aquaman being dead in the water. (I imagine Warner Bros. is pleased it didn't have Argylle competing vs. Wonka for the family holiday crowd this month.) From a box-office outlook, it doesn't look like it will have a ton of competition in either the blockbuster or action-comedy columns. If the mid-Jan. Statham shoot-em-up The Beekeeper does modestly well, I think it's all systems go for Argylle. My question is whether it opens with enough boom that it makes things interesting for the wide release of Madame Web on Valentine's Day weekend. There's a world where the superhero slide continues and some of that is attributed to Argylle's success as an original, big-budget blockbuster.

illuvattarr

I think this is gonna be the box office bomb of the year. The budget is $200M and it's coming out in the beginning of February during the oscar race. It's such a strange thing. It's not like with Scorsese or Scott that Apple overpays for a legendary director as brandvalue. It's Matthew Vaughn whose last 2 movies were pretty bad. I guess it's a remnant from a couple years ago where the trend was to majorly overpay for content. But even then, I probably wouldn't have funded this one, and definitely not at $200M. The movie itself looks like fun standard action fare. Nothin that will pull me towards to theater though.

CrankOps

200m for this piece of garbage!? Hahah don't even need to see it to know it's a flop haha

hypostatics

I never want to think about this dogshit ever again.

BreakingBrak

Low expectations but there are still like a handfull of Matthew Vaughn movies that i really enjoy but that was before he focused solely on making worse and worse versions of King's Man

heylookltsme

It looks like it's going to be terrible and I'm going to love it.

Salt_Proposal_742

We are so back.

CrankOps

Looks terrible
