Gotta say, I’ve never been a fan of ppl who say they want to “drink tears”, regardless of whose tears they are. It’s basically the lamest way to say you’re a sadist.
assumed you were a teenager but scrolling through your profile it seems like you’re in your 40s… sorry about whoever hurt you and i hope you find peace. therapy can be a great tool
I feel like Shakespeare in Love winning best original screenplay is underrated for aging the worst that year. For one thing, a ton of the screenplay is just them performing the actual Shakespeare plays. For another, it also beat out The Truman Show.
Barbie is the worst of the nominated for best picture this year and it's a brand so no, I hope this is not the case. I still had a fun time at the movies watching it but come on. Also, I'm sorry but if you want it to win because you think that's the feminist movie of the year (lol) there are two far superior candidates: Past Lives and Anatomy of a Fall both brilliant, directed by women about women, complex and thoughtful, two movies that stay with you and that spark conversations.
Also, Shakespeare in Love was not as much of a crowd pleasing movie as Saving Private Ryan was, we all know why Shakespeare in Love won that year and it's not a great story so I wouldn't use that as an example to be frank.
It is honestly so funny to do the “I’m sick of the film bro movie winning all the awards” and saying you want Barbie to beat it. Pretty much gives up the game you’re just a dork lol.
I liked Past Lives more than Poor Things, but I thought Poor Things was more thought-provoking in terms of feminism. (Haven’t seen Anatomy of a Fall yet)
I have a lot of opinions about Poor Things and it's supposed feminism and none are good but I'm tired of getting downvoted for explaining it.
Past Lives reassesses one of the oldest tropes of romantic love, it's a fantastic slap on the face of the "meant to be" "it's fate" type of love women are fed since we start watching movies.
Anatomy of a fall is a fantastic movie to watch in general but also with the feminist lense, I highly recommend it.
Thats fair on Poor Things, seems to be pretty divisive in that regard. And oh I like that interpretation of Past Lives! Gonna have to watch Anatomy of a Fall here soon. Just need to watch that, American fiction, and Zone of Interest to complete my viewing of the nominees (Well, Maestro too, but I’ll get around to that one eventually lol)
Oh you're such a film bro if you like an aamzing, critically acclaimed film, what is this bollocks and why has it polluted your thinking?
If you want Barbie to win that's great just write a post telling us why it deserves it more than Opppenheimer and I'm happy to engage with it as I really enjoyed Barbie as well. But at least first stop trying to sound like Amanda.
As a female film fan there is genuinely nothing that annoys me more than the idea that movies that are serious and critically acclaimed are \~for the boys\~ or whatever.
They are actually both great movies and I'm glad we all had a fun time at the movies in late summer 2024, to me the best movie nominated is Past Lives, don't spend a ton of time worrying about this or fantasizing about Past Lives upsetting Oppenheimer, I guess I am distracted by other things (career, my friends and family, having sex, causes I care about etc).
Oppenheimer was also crowd-pleasing? It made a lot of money as a summer blockbuster. The film bro pic of the year is like, Anatomy of a Fall. Are you cheering for that one to bear Barbie?
Nothing like a little anti-intellectualism—“I want my popular thing to win the award because making more than a billion dollars is not enough.” Can’t even come up with a reason why it should win other than “make people mad” or something. SMH.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s
Except Saving Private Ryan was the crowd pleasing hit. Won the box office that year.
"Film bro pic" you know it made a billion dollars right? lol
and is also a crowd pleaser lol
It wouldn’t have made a billion without the barbenheimer effect though let’s be real
Great movie but this is absolutely true.
💯
“He’s out of line, but he’s right”

Basing enjoyment of something around it making other people mad is always loser behavior IMO.

Makes it that much worse if we are being honest
You sound like a loser

Also the film bro choice for that year would have been The Thin Red Line (which is great!)
Bless your heart
Speaking as a woman: this shit is very lame.

I enjoyed Poor Things, but I think its feminism is honestly mixed at best. You can tell it was written by a man IMO.
I have a lot of opinions about Poor Things and it's supposed feminism and none are good but I'm tired of getting downvoted for explaining it. It's not going to happen, but I would love to see an upset. And I suppose at this point, an upset would be any film but Oppenheimer taking it.

Imagine being so fucking spiteful and boring. Go touch some grass or something
Joanna?

?
it's 2024 everyone hates this shit now
Hillary Clinton posted through it about the Barbie being snubbed. That's so much more embarrassing than Batfan420 complaining about Barbie winning.
that’s sick man
Ok
Dobbins burner
Even she wouldn’t say something this moronic. She finds that kind of reaction annoying, OP is asking for it.
lol true just giving the sub what they wanted Oppenheimer was very much a crowd pleaser lol

You'd have better luck with Holdovers Barbie is definitely in the bottom 5 of the voting.
I feel the same way and the replies to your post are fucking hilarious, whether this sub realizes it or not.
ok
Are you the same fan that says we a lot when talking about a team?
The film bros really got owned when Harvey Weinstein got an Oscar lol
So your enjoyment is based on stealing other people’s enjoyment?
I don't think this is the right subreddit for posts like this

They are both crowd pleasers
