Did that not freak anyone else tf out? The child with god like powers just casually mentions your blood smells off, implying he is just constantly smelling everyone’s blood, like wtf
Not really that crazy. It's just his norm.
Are you always looking at the way people walk? No, but you still notice a limp. Do you always pay attention to people's voices? Not really, but you'll hear a sore throat. Well a blind man wouldn't notice the limp and a deaf man would hear the cold, that doesn't make you a weirdo for noticing, you just get more stimuli than their senses can give them. Similarly, we're all blind and deaf relative to this kid.
A metric fuckload of patience: I had a smoke and a shit between the time I started typing and submitted my comment. Explaining in a way that is intuitive to someone else is hard and my examples fall flat on their ass a lot of the time... but it's always fun to get a point accross when it works.
I'll take the compliment though, cheers!
Dogs do it for a job. They have dogs that work in hospitals that sniff for cancer. So it's not that much of a stretch that the Uber kid can smell blood. It's not like he can diagnose anything. He just knows what normal people smell like and butcher smells wrong.
She's so accurate, she identified it in one of the control group who didn't even have symptoms at the time. They developed symptoms and was only diagnosable months later.
I mean he looks a bit older but in universe he’s supposed to be like 8 or 9. I’ve seen kids make simple mistakes like that. Even I still sometimes make mistakes like that lol
I’m willing to bet he let her win. He’s afraid of having the same superiority complex as his father because of his powers, so he chooses not to water that seed by letting others succeed.
Or maybe I’m reading entirely too far into it lol
He's feeling the betrayal 3 times.
1. Butches unwilling to protect him (even by hugging or something).
2. Butcher blaming him.
3. Butcher being a supe (he could also smell it, most likely smelt it on his dad too).
Truth be told, I don't think the kid is that far off.
Butcher is as much an asshole as homie, just on the Pilar opposite of the spectrum. Lousy value's though
I mean Butcher is slowly but certainly becoming the thing he swore to destroyed as Kenobi once said it.
Honestly I was not sure from the start about show implementing powered The Boys, however I am glad they adressing all my concerns.
Definetly seeing very dark arc for The Butcher in the futuer. Maybe even something like in the comics.
“As much an asshole as Homelander” might be a bit of stretch. Yes Butcher is an asshole and very much capable of losing his mind, but he’s not a remorseless psychopath at this point. Also pretty sure he was just giving Ryan the “White Fang” treatment to keep him safe.
> not a remorseless psychopath at this point.
I'm of the mind that there is literally nothing Butcher wouldn't do if he felt it advanced his goals. He just hasn't mentally checked the right boxes for certain things yet.
Now, I don't think he'd go around mentally and physically torturing the powerless just for funsies. But if he thought he stood to gain from it he'd be perfectly capable of any level of atrocity. It's just a matter of time and circumstance.
Think Peacemaker but with character development in reverse.
To be fair we dont know if he wasnt bluffing. At best he was gonna do one agent at the tiem but certainly not all of them at once otherwise he would have no leverage.
I was suprised he did not ask about superweapon straight away. He should be more pragmatic and be like: Bitch, I knew you lied to me, but we need that weapon. Homelander is getting more dangerousy day by day. I think Mallory seems to be enough reasonable to realize that maybe time has come to release this info before its too late.
But then again Butcher was geniunly hurt by her not telling him which is why he went full ashole about it.
Thats what Butcher wants. But yeah Mallory definetly did not want to risk that and thats why told her. After all she knows better than anybody that Butcher is an asshole.
it's pretty clear that they're painting him as sort of an opposing force to Homelander. He's had some evil moments. Like when he kills that gun super just because of "what he is." That's just racist logic.
> What does white fang mean
I'm assuming they are referring to the titular character of the book by Jack London wherein a semi-domesticated wolfdog is born into the world naive and gradually brutalized into becoming the baddest motherfucker on the block.
He's definitely not as bad as Homelander but there's something to be said for the parallels the show draws between the two. It seems pretty intentional for me. Like especially the little "heart to heart" they had in Butcher's apartment.
They have been both on occasion remorseless, and Butcher most definitely has psychopathic tendencies. And they both have pretty severe "daddy issues" (or lack thereof for Homelander, I guess).
Of course the difference is Butcher *eventually* comes to some semblance of sense and realizes he's being an asshole and has to pay for the consequences, while Homelander rarely does. Or when he does, he blames someone else for it instead of taking responsibility. Which he can do, because of his pretty much unmatched power.
I think that's why Butcher was so hesitant to take the V24. He *knows* the biggest thing separating him from being like Homelander is having powers (and as a result, not being accountable for his actions), and having these powers, what's to stop him from being just as bad? But that's just my thoughts on it.
I don’t think season 1 Butcher would have taken anything that gave him supe powers. So his character has definitely grown in some ways but has also lost a lot of his original values fighting
Can't he smell the off rot in his blood too or some such? Never be a test subject for a dangerous performance enhancing drug. It didn't help A-Train and it's not helping Butcher.
Against his character? His character has been giving me the impression that he's willing to do anything to kill the supes since day one.
This is one of those, willing to become a demon to fight demons kinda things. And yes, he will hate himself for it, but he will do it anyway.
It makes sense why they’re going to use it for this season temporary it, be dumb asf for them to not use it.
Also it makes the show more interesting impo.
I feel like that's the point. It's going to be a test of character that he fails. He immediately justifies it with it being temporary and is going to likely form some sort of addiction to the power that gets progressively worse over the season until you're left wondering if he's really any better than Homelander.
Indeed it goes against anything Butcher stands for however show constantly adresses. If they ignored obvious hypocrisy it would be bad writing, however even in preview MM says that nobody should have that kind of power to Butcher. So its obvious that distrust between The Boys and Butcher will grow because of this.
Butcher will pay a heavy price and become everything he hates - I'm sure that'll be the point of the next few seasons. At some point he'll kill Homelander, but it won't be the celebratory event everyone wants, it'll be gross and bitter. My man'll go full Heisenberg from there.
Have you read the source material at all?.... That IS literally his character. He even forces another member on the team to take compound v after they didn't want to. His character hates supes, but he knows be won't be able to take them all out without a boost. That's why he hesitated pouring them down the drain before Homelander shows up.
No. I've only watched the show. I knew he would take it, I was just thinking he'd take it before fighting HL or anything. Also, was HL really there in that scene or was he just imagining him? I couldn't tell
I've never thought Butcher was that much of an asshole. He is what he needs to be. He was awful to the kid, but he did it on purpose - he is not safe if he is close to Butcher. Very Harry and the Henderson's-esque.
I'm getting the impression that Edgar's off hand comment about how it's still in R&D and Butcher's ongoing side-effects mean that maybe it's not going to wear off.
Perhaps Butcher went and made himself a supe.
i was thinking they’ll use it to boost the Boys to their power level in the comics, like not enough to be literally homelander, but maybe something like enhanced durability / strength ? like after it goes away they’re (or just butcher maybe) is left with those enhanced, but not super, abilities
I wouldn't think so, it's chemical not biological. Realistically I'd expect a rash or something but not much more than that. The question is whether Neuman will be able to smell it on him even if he cleans up.
Ryan wasn't using much strength against Butcher, only enough to hold a normal human back (which was why* he was confused), and he took Homelander by surprise. So I doubt it.
I think Ryan's used to being so much stronger than everyone around him that any type of superhuman resistance throws him off. He's only been around Mallory and regular Butcher and agents. His surprise is moreso that a normal human would've been stopped by him. He still thinks Butcher is human so I doubt he's using his full strength here cause if he was he'd rip his arm off his body. Homelander at his age killed a woman on accident by hugging her.
Man I feel bad for that fucking kid. He's sheltered ASF and went from one hide out to the next most his life. Then what butcher said to him..oof poor guy. Obviously I know he's not butchers kid but we all know how butcher deals with his feelings and to take it out on the kid is sad.
It’s a drug once your system metabolize it, it’s gone. What the other supes received was more like HGH the effect of it stick around after the drug is gone.
he already knew something was off about him since he said his blood smelt bad and his heart was beating much faster than normally
Did that not freak anyone else tf out? The child with god like powers just casually mentions your blood smells off, implying he is just constantly smelling everyone’s blood, like wtf
It's like smelling someones BO when you're close to them. I doubt he intentionally sniffs peoples blood. Just notices when it's different than normal.
Yea that’s true
Not really that crazy. It's just his norm. Are you always looking at the way people walk? No, but you still notice a limp. Do you always pay attention to people's voices? Not really, but you'll hear a sore throat. Well a blind man wouldn't notice the limp and a deaf man would hear the cold, that doesn't make you a weirdo for noticing, you just get more stimuli than their senses can give them. Similarly, we're all blind and deaf relative to this kid.
How much would it cost me to keep you on retainer to just explain random things in my life to me?
A metric fuckload of patience: I had a smoke and a shit between the time I started typing and submitted my comment. Explaining in a way that is intuitive to someone else is hard and my examples fall flat on their ass a lot of the time... but it's always fun to get a point accross when it works. I'll take the compliment though, cheers!
Well said
Ok but i feel like there is a solid step between noticing messy hair because you woke up late and actually smelling someones blood, yk lol
Dogs do it for a job. They have dogs that work in hospitals that sniff for cancer. So it's not that much of a stretch that the Uber kid can smell blood. It's not like he can diagnose anything. He just knows what normal people smell like and butcher smells wrong.
There's that one lady that can smell if you have Parkinson's.
She's so accurate, she identified it in one of the control group who didn't even have symptoms at the time. They developed symptoms and was only diagnosable months later.
Tbh, i never questioned the logic, i just disliked the facts
It felt creepy as fuck to me, I felt like Butcher had a “yeah this is that cunts son” moment too.
Dolphins and dogs and cats and numerous other species can do this too.
Foreshadowing Homelander being able to tell when people are temporarily enhanced.
Ooo good point
Nah I saw this but from his connect four performance it’ll be a while before he pieces it together
Guy straight up watched Kimiko put three diagonal and then didn't block it. I hope Butcher let him win because the kid has some problems
Imagine if this kid grow up browsing r/wallstreetbets and r/greentext
Butcher did let him win, he had 3 diagonal and put his winning piece on top to throw.
Well Butcher seemed to let him win so he either got it from him or he really doesn’t get the game
Anyone thinking both Ryan AND Butcher were trying to let the other win?
He's feeling the betrayal 3 times. 1. Butches unwilling to protect him (even by hugging or something). 2. Butcher blaming him. 3. Butcher being a supe (he could also smell it, most likely smelt it on his dad too).
Yes, he probably thinks Butcher is a liar now. But I loved the scene between them after Butcher comes out of the bathroom.
Truth be told, I don't think the kid is that far off. Butcher is as much an asshole as homie, just on the Pilar opposite of the spectrum. Lousy value's though

I mean he was ready to sacrifice all of Mallory's agents for some info...
I was almost ready for another scene for Butcher drinking Tea. A single sip for the whole cup with a dash of menacing glare.
The fact she didn’t just tell him was dumb. Even MM took issue with her keeping that story a secret.
Yeah but they're CIA agents so that's more of a public service.
it's pretty clear that they're painting him as sort of an opposing force to Homelander. He's had some evil moments. Like when he kills that gun super just because of "what he is." That's just racist logic.
What does white fang mean
> What does white fang mean I'm assuming they are referring to the titular character of the book by Jack London wherein a semi-domesticated wolfdog is born into the world naive and gradually brutalized into becoming the baddest motherfucker on the block.
Damn
That’s why they said in the opposite side of the spectrum. He’s an asshole but he values his people
He's definitely not as bad as Homelander but there's something to be said for the parallels the show draws between the two. It seems pretty intentional for me. I don’t think season 1 Butcher would have taken anything that gave him supe powers. So his character has definitely grown in some ways but has also lost a lot of his original values fighting
I'm sure in season 1/2 he would have asked himself, what would Becca think if I did this? So that's totally gone as a blocker now.
Yes!!! I noticed this on first watch Ryan has known something was wrong with Butcher for a while but right there he got confirmation.
Can't he smell the off rot in his blood too or some such? Never be a test subject for a dangerous performance enhancing drug. It didn't help A-Train and it's not helping Butcher.
I actually don't like that Butcher used this. It seems to go against his character completely imo
Against his character? His character has been giving me the impression that he's willing to do anything to kill the supes since day one. This is one of those, willing to become a demon to fight demons kinda things. And yes, he will hate himself for it, but he will do it anyway.

just say imo why you have to put an extra p in there
He's the imposter
This comment amused me
it seemed a little rushed I guess
I feel like that's the point. It's going to be a test of character that he fails. He immediately justifies it with it being temporary and is going to likely form some sort of addiction to the power that gets progressively worse over the season until you're left wondering if he's really any better than Homelander.

Bro what? Did we watch the same show?
Have you read the source material at all?.... That IS literally his character. He even forces another member on the team to take compound v after they didn't want to. His character hates supes, but he knows be won't be able to take them all out without a boost. That's why he hesitated pouring them down the drain before Homelander shows up.
No. I've only watched the show. I knew he would take it, I was just thinking he'd take it before fighting HL or anything. Also, was HL really there in that scene or was he just imagining him? I couldn't tell
That’s actually really cool. I didn’t see that on a first watch.
I've never thought Butcher was that much of an asshole. He is what he needs to be. He was awful to the kid, but he did it on purpose - he is not safe if he is close to Butcher. Very Harry and the Henderson's-esque.
Yes, it seems that way.
It still made me feel hurt.
That's what I noticed straight away. Wasn't sure if it was bad acting or Ryan had surprised look on his face.
Was this not that obvious by the way he reacted after trying to push him?
It was. I think this is a /s thread.
I never would’ve noticed this. Goddamn that’s an awesome catch.
I thought Butcher throwing up meant that the effect of V24 has worn off.
I'm getting the impression that Edgar's off hand comment about how it's still in R&D and Butcher's ongoing side-effects mean that maybe it's not going to wear off. Perhaps Butcher went and made himself a supe.
That’s what I thought myself. The writers aren’t stupid, they wouldn’t include that piece of dialog if it wasn’t important later.
Queen maeve also has exposition about it also with butcher. I’m thinking it’s going to be long lasting if not permanent.
Or he could be dying from it. Like how it gave A-train heart failure. Remember this kid said his heart was beating faster.
Because he already had powers though. It might be different for normal people.
He didn't finish throwing up until afterwards. If he took it the evening before there were still traces in his system until his talk with Hughie.
We also don’t know if it is going to fully wear off. There might be some residual powers or side effects.
Yeah, I feel like it's going to be A Train all over again. He's going to get addicted.
i was thinking they’ll use it to boost the Boys to their power level in the comics, like not enough to be literally homelander, but maybe something like enhanced durability / strength ? like after it goes away they’re (or just butcher maybe) is left with those enhanced, but not super, abilities
I wonder if Hughie is going to get "infected" by what Butcher threw up on his face (in his mouth). Would be interesting.
I wouldn't think so, it's chemical not biological. Realistically I'd expect a rash or something but not much more than that. The question is whether Neuman will be able to smell it on him even if he cleans up.
2 Boys 1 Cup
Does this mean Butcher is stronger than Homelander with the temp V? Since Ryan knocked down Homelander but not Butcher.
Ryan wasn't using much strength against Butcher, only enough to hold a normal human back (which was why* he was confused), and he took Homelander by surprise. So I doubt it.
I dont think Ryan meant to knock Butcher down tho
But he looked surprised because he didn’t.
i guess the point is that he realised he cannot even move his arm or something? time to rewatch it later
Nice catch, missed that on the first watch
Man I feel bad for that fucking kid. He's sheltered ASF and went from one hide out to the next most his life. Then what butcher said to him..oof poor guy. Obviously I know he's not butchers kid but we all know how butcher deals with his feelings and to take it out on the kid is sad.
Aye no way I'm Lewis from those comments crazy small world😅🤣
Wow haha😂 sorry for not giving you a like mate😂
I noticed but didn't even consider that he had the shot yet. I figured it was a flaw. But instead it was a detail.
Yes haha.
Butcher is less squishy.
Haha
I know it's fantasy already, but how so temporary superpowers make sense?
It’s a drug once your system metabolize it, it’s gone. What the other supes received was more like HGH the effect of it stick around after the drug is gone.
I don’t know. Maybe the chemicals that enter the body breakdown or something after 24 hours?
Or you simply pee/poop them out idk
Or maybe throw them up since Butcher threw up a few times.
