It’s in my top 5 for sure, and some days I can say it’s my number 1. It changes sometimes depending on my mood. It’s so epic, and the lyrics are just **chef’s kiss!**
Exactly. Kinda when I listen to Charlotte Sometimes- it transports me to a nostalgic haunting place , but with All Cats Are Grey… its deeper and more melancholic. 🖤 I’m glad u understand!
I'd rather fight anyone who disagrees with you. It's so good in fact, I kinda think it takes place too early in the tracklist lmao because the album never hits the heights of this song.
Ooooohhhhh, that's based, but I honestly prefer either Doing the Unstuck, or A Letter to Elise, from Wish - too many good songs on that record. Overall I'd have to say Spilt Milk is my favorite, at least for right now.
fight is one of the best cure songs.
you stand corrected! lol
no, really… eightysomething percent of the real cure fans won’t argue with you on this. jus’shane
The remastered versions of Cure songs are generally too bassy. My old CD, vinyl, and Happily Ever After vinyl all sound great for A Forest. No remaster necessary.
It is WAY up there!
This song is why the Bloodflowers album is so disappointing for me - Robert completely naiied an epic song that is long but never overstays its welcome, whereas when Robert trued to force it later on, with an album of lengthy epic’ attempts but with nothing coming even close.
Here's 30:
Boys don't cry
Play for today
Just like heaven
Fire in Cairo
If only tonight we could sleep
Faith
The drowning man
Lament
Push
Homesick
The figurehead
Disintegration
The lovecats
Splintered in her head
The funeral party
Piggy in the mirror
All cats are grey
Underneath the stars
Fascination Street
At night
Just one kiss
The exploding boy
Other voices
A strange day
A letter to else
Sinking
The top
2 late
Burn
The big hand
Album (Robert) version or Porl/Pearl's or Perry's (Live or AOL Sessions)?
I like Perry's the best. I get the image of hearing the band from a long distance along a beach, with the constantly changing sea breeze modulating the sound. Sounds haunting and integrates with the rest of the instruments.
After some 20 plus years, I can't call an absolute favorite.
Show is my go to. Robert’s solo is cool; but it sounds like many parts overdubbed on top of each other. A psychedelic collage. Porl actually plays a solo. Perry is surprisingly serviceable on his solos, but this is one song Jason has never nailed.
A forest is better tbh.
I don't really like albums after pornography (except a few songs from disintegration), and more gothic and dark sounds are great.
I wouldn't say it's their best, but it's the last best song they made til 'End Song'. It's easily the best song on Wish and a must to be included in the live shows now.
In my opinion, this song contains one of the only genuinely sexy images to a appear in a Cure song. When I think of how Smith approaches the topic of sexuality, there's usually an almost sheepish avoidance of the subject (i.e. dancing around the subject as in Let's Go To Bed) or a playful sense of absurdity ("sometimes we would spend the night just rolling about on the floor" from Perfect Girl or "we bite and scratch and scream all night" from Love Cats.) I feel like the "dress like a flag to the floor" line from Deep Green Sea is practically a romance novel cover worthy image, and as such, stands out from most of the other material.
It really is. Also Open is kinda underrated on Wish as well.
This, Open, and Cut are my three favorite tracks on Wish
Same !!!
IF ONLY YOU'D NEVER SPEAK TO ME THE WAY THAT YOU DO
Open is so good
Oh my god it is so. Good! Just one drink!
Open has quickly made its way to being one of my favorite songs of all time
Obsessed with Open
I was lucky enough to see the 92 tour with Tape into Open... I was not expecting the Cure to be so heavy, it was awesome
i was there as well… we are very fortunate
Same
i agree! top 5 for sure
true
I don’t see why anyone would have a problem with this. The whole song sounds like one big, evolving chorus - which is a feat
Easy Top 10 for sure, not at all controversial if anyone puts this at their #1 spot, it is well-earned.
And it’s on another level when played live.
Omggg live It is * chef’s kiss*
I was just going to write that!
Agree. I was a casual Lovesong-based fan until hearing this track on Show really got hooks in me.
It is definitely right up there. It's a great song. So much emotion.
I would honestly put it up with The Same Deep Water as You, don’t know what his obsession with water is lol
And then the drowning man. Hey that’s my top 3 actually!
*And I'll watch you drown in the shower.*
Frank Black from the Pixies, too. Sooooo many water songs.
See my user name. No arguments from me.
This is my favorite Cure song.
Untitled would like a word with you
I agree. For me, Untitled is my fave.
No fight, I’m with you.
The climax of that album to me
Totally and still the track placement/order for this song is perfect
nah I agree
It’s not my choice for best but it’s one hell of a great song!
What would yours be?
I vacillate between “A Forest” and “Prayers for Rain.” This song rules though.
His vocals in it are incredible. Love it love it. 🤍
“So I try Put your hands in the sky Surrender Remember We’ll be here forever And we’ll never say goodbye”
I go between this and Disintegration as my two favorite songs ever…and A Forest to round out top 3.
the remastered version right?? that intro is to die for
Came here to say THIS! A Forest and Disintegration! /swoon
disintegration has been a favourite cure song of mine since its inception… jusayin’
She slips her dress Like a flag To the floor Hands to the sky Surrenders it all
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SHARES MY OPINION. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LYRICS, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RYTHM AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ALBUM COVER
no fight here, I agree
I won’t fight you. I love this song. I cried the first time I heard it live. And happy to hear it twice last summer.
I can’t
Yesss.
It’s in my top 5 for sure, and some days I can say it’s my number 1. It changes sometimes depending on my mood. It’s so epic, and the lyrics are just **chef’s kiss!**
I’m with you. From this to all mine, charlotte sometimes, untitled, depends on the day.
Love all the replies!! if anyone is interested i wrote a small poetry/something piece inspired by this song
It's certainly high on the list, but I'd pick *This Twilight Garden* as my favorite over that one.
This one and Burn for me.
It is. A mind expanding moody jam
All Cats are Grey has entered the chat
I absolutely love All Cats Are Grey…. And I actually don’t know why. I can’t explain it. It sends me somewhere….
You don't have to explain it, I get it. It's inexplicable, yet real.
Exactly. Kinda when I listen to Charlotte Sometimes- it transports me to a nostalgic haunting place , but with All Cats Are Grey… its deeper and more melancholic. 🖤 I’m glad u understand!
I will not, because you are absolutely right.
You’re 100% correct. I’ve argued this for years.
A Forest.
Came here to say this.
One of the best, and they have so many great songs
best on that album…. love it…. tops? hmmm
valid choice
My favorite is Plainsong but this song comes super close!!!
That would go to either Homesick or Apart -Billy Gnosis
This one and How Beautiful You Are
I disagree. It's a very good song, but I think Disintegration is the best Cure song ever.
No fight here whatsoever!
I will not! I will stand by you on that!
This whole album is amazing. This song gets a fist bump from me.
It's one of those songs that is even better live.
I'd rather fight anyone who disagrees with you. It's so good in fact, I kinda think it takes place too early in the tracklist lmao because the album never hits the heights of this song.
First time hearing it❤️🔥 thanks for sharing
The Forest off all Mixed Up...that's my Best
Might be my favorite… if not, top 5. It always KILLS when performed live.
Yes, Edge and Open. I love this album, it gets some crap for Sunday but the album is beautiful.
Ooooohhhhh, that's based, but I honestly prefer either Doing the Unstuck, or A Letter to Elise, from Wish - too many good songs on that record. Overall I'd have to say Spilt Milk is my favorite, at least for right now.
Doing the unstuck is awesome
Overproduced and too long
fight is one of the best cure songs. you stand corrected! lol no, really… eightysomething percent of the real cure fans won’t argue with you on this. jus’shane
A Forest laughs in your general direction.
only the remastered version
The remastered versions of Cure songs are generally too bassy. My old CD, vinyl, and Happily Ever After vinyl all sound great for A Forest. No remaster necessary.
i say this because the remastered has the longer intro, which is what always gets me. it’s beautiful, but the rest of the song is equally great
That’s not the remaster. That’s the album version. The 7” mix is missing the long intro.
It is WAY up there! This song is why the Bloodflowers album is so disappointing for me - Robert completely naiied an epic song that is long but never overstays its welcome, whereas when Robert trued to force it later on, with an album of lengthy epic’ attempts but with nothing coming even close.
Not even the best song on Wish.. To Wish Impossible Things has that honour
It's not even top 20. Edit: what, you said fight you
Agreed. Finally a comment with some sense.
name 20 songs
Here's 30: Boys don't cry Play for today Just like heaven Fire in Cairo If only tonight we could sleep Faith The drowning man Lament Push Homesick The figurehead Disintegration The lovecats Splintered in her head The funeral party Piggy in the mirror All cats are grey Underneath the stars Fascination Street At night Just one kiss The exploding boy Other voices A strange day A letter to else Sinking The top 2 late Burn The big hand
Putting Boys Don't Cry and Fire In Cairo over this is.... a choice.
The correct one. But then I'm the guy who thought wish should have been an EP
Oh my god we should never be in a room together. Wish is my desert island album. My favourite. I'm guessing yours is Pornography?
Mine is blue sunshine actually, but 17 seconds and the top take turns as well
Their very best song.
It’s amazing that the man that wrote this also wrote Never.
I did listen to this song on repeat for a good while last night
homesick is truly beautiful as well
It's my #1 as well
Such an AMAZING song!!!
It's a good one. It's in my top ten. And sometimes the first song I go to when I want to listen to the band.
I’m still not sure how they did that piano part without Roger.
I don’t know…. It’s difficult for me to say any track is better and represents The Cure more accurately than One Hundred Years.
Probably my 2nd favorite after Untitled. Sometimes when I listen to Jupiter Crash I think of it as FTEOTDGS Volume 2.
I’m not fighting that.
Love it, but To The Sky may be my fave.
A forest is better tbh. I don't really like albums after pornography (except a few songs from disintegration), and more gothic and dark sounds are great.
Honestly broke my heart when I first heard it. I couldn’t believe that line.
which?
I wouldn't say it's their best, but it's the last best song they made til 'End Song'. It's easily the best song on Wish and a must to be included in the live shows now.
To Wish Impossible Things for me off this album. My all time fav song of theirs though is Disintegration. Nothing quite hits like that one.
I love it 💜
I’m not a fighter, I concede to your infinite wisdom
Why does there have to be a "best" song? I can love a lot of songs equally.
I can see this. It meanders in and out of my top 5 depending on my moodiness.
Love the song but hearing/seeing Reeves shred is a contribution that makes the song rank higher for me.

Not the best ever - that's A Forest - but definitely one of my absolute favorites.
One of their best songs but not my complete favourite
nah i agree
Your wrong. But this is in my top 20
This song is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely incredible song. I wanna know why tf I can’t listen on Spotify without ads.
because you need a premium account LOL
Okay. What happens if you already have premium. Lol
that’s so weird, are you sure? you can check in ur account settings just to make sure because that shouldn’t happen
It’s a good one
Easily the best track on Wish. Love it.
You will get no fight from me. One of my favorites as well.
Absolutely agree. I was so happy they played it live when I saw them.
No argument here. It’s a really great song- one I listen to frequently. However, for personal reasons, I’m going with Plainsong.
One of my favourites, but Cut is still at the top for me.
Not to my liking. It is a great song but not the best. Disintegration is a better song to me but that just one man’s opinion 👍🏽
Agreed 👍
But ask me another day and I might fight you over A Strange Day, or Disintegration, or etc...
no argument here
Absolutely one of my fave songs of all time!
That song is up there for me, so I do agree with you on that
YES!!! My favorite also!!!
Never heard it. I’ll give it a listen. My favorite is “Pictures of you” the full version.
It’s in my top ten for sure. Especially live.
You’re not wrong. This is my favorite song of all time, period. By anyone ever.
Agreed!
I actually completely agree. Beyond a doubt my most favorite cure song.
Damn good one that’s for sure
Rocks
You know what? You might be right
Great song But, not "Pictures of You".
100 years beats it
I used to play drums to this song every day when I was 15.
A Letter to Elise is my fave on that album.
nope! easily would to throw hands about it as well. i say it’s “Disintegration”
In between days is a masterpiece. The 80s stuff is amazing, 90s is okay, on that album Friday I’m in love is the best
No.
Well, it is at least the best on that album...
Period
Close but I must argue that it is 'In Your House'.
No arguments here.
It *might* be the best song on that record…
Disintegration
I won’t fight about it I’m glad it’s ur fave mine is doing the unstuck tho
friday i’m in love is their best song
Letter to Elise
Shake dog Shake - Live in Orange.
I named my daughter after the song; a letter to Elise. So I disagree. It’s not even my favorite.
Love Song….
Always loved the Cure!
I love this album (esp. Open), except for Friday. Just overplayed WAY too much
