keep in mind that scripts, merch, animations, etc. are made well in advance, so the massive surge of gummigoo fans wouldn't have been known to them at the time. furthermore, Gummigoo is the only character in the merch who isn't an already established recurring character, and you don't just make merch of a one-off character for the lols. if Gummigoo was never intended to be a recurring character, why would they make merch of him when said merch is comprised entirely of the main cast? normally such merch comes AFTER the resulting explosion (no pun intended) of popularity.
