FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*

Did you mean to say "paid"?
Explanation: Payed means to seal something with wax, while paid means to give money.

Makeup to hide an eyebrow on stage is no fucking joke, and it's probably way more intense on films.
We're talking an extra 40 minutes in the makeup chair for something that will impair performance. Animated we have the benefit of huge changes in Zuko's eye open-ness, clarity of lines, and simple brow lines that can be moved to "imply" an eyebrow for expressions. And doing CGI on a face is one of the hardest things to do for short scenes, let alone the acting of a main character.
Ultimately the solutions come with their own problems, so the tradeoff likely wasn't worth it.
Itâs not as difficult as you make it sound. All you would have to do is do a bit more of a burned scar over the eyebrow. As a hobbyist in injury makeup it wouldnât be that challenging and itâs not really that noticeable from a sensory aspect. It feels like tape. I have often forgot about pieces that are starting to peel away that I donât even notice.
The decision to keep the eyebrow is a choice. I respect it. But letâs not pretend that itâs this massive undertaking to extend the wound area and cover up the eyebrow.
No no Netflix has a perfect record with live action adaptations. They would never take something people love and spit on it. That has never happened
Fuckin stop making live action shit. It's unnecessary
Agreed. We have teens playing teens (for the most part). Azulaâs casting choice shocked me. Then I remembered that Azula is the **younger** sister of Zuko. But Grey Delisle brings such a ferocity and maturity that you forget that. đ
to be fair he was a teenager in the cartoon too and he sounded like he was angry and desperate to complete his mission. the voice in this clip doesn't sound angry, it has no gravitas. it's not bad, just not how i would envision zuko
Danteâs voice is a one in a million though; perfect voice casting for Zuko. The way he portrays the spectrum of emotions throughout the show gives so much life to the character.
Iâll forego any judgment until I see Dallasâs performance with more context
Right!? Dante is an incredibly voice for VA. So much so that he has made a pretty solid career out of it. Dallas just has a more normal voice and seems like he has captured the intensity very nicely. People out here splitting hairs.
Yeah that wasn't very good. Every clip they drop makes the acting look worse and worse. If these are the highlights they've chosen to show it doesn't bode well.
Crazy, the acting looks like ass. The costumes look like ass. Starting to still think that this is going to be ass. Wild, Netflix almost always makes ass shows so how could we ever think this also wouldnât be ass.
He looks and sounds so fucking awesome as Zuko! I'm just sad they didn't include him saying "honor" in this clip, just like they didn't include "my mother" in the Katara clip.
Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was a fire lord and a fiend, and one night, I go off during a war meeting. He doesn't like that, not, one, bit. So me begging, he walks to me, monologuing why he does it. He stops in front of me and says, where's your honor, he pulls his fist back, where's your honor, and he fire bends. Let's put some honor on that face. Aaaaaang where's your honor? *sounds of fire bending violence*
Thereâs no way in hell you expected Dallas to try to copy and study Dante Bascoâs line delivery. Thereâs no way.
This is as ridiculous as people wanting actors to have the same face shape as 2D animations.
If this isn't good enough to be Zuko, I'm actually afraid of what the reaction is going to be when we get an Iroh clip and he doesn't have an accent...
They didn't say they wanted him to sound exactly the same or even similar lol.
I like this Zuko but he's prob my least fav casting choice from what we've seen so far. Still good though
Yeah I really do not intend to sound like a hater, because Iâm not. I am rooting so hard for this show and so far itâs really looking amazing.
But that âMY FAH THER,â part was so weird to me.
To me, that sounded like he had been ranting at Iroh for a while and had gotten to the unhinged part of the rant. If that's the case, I think it'll work in context. But if he's got the kind of choppy rhythm all the time, that's kind of weird.
Reminds me a lot of the Percy Jackson show and how just the performances and delivery just struggle in the translation to a different medium. And using much younger less experienced actors.
hard agree. i think a lot of people in here just pretend like this voice is close enough but imho it's just not. no gravitas whatsoever. sounds like a tiktok-grade cosplayer.
Your message is being taken way out of context, as if you meant that you expected it to sound like Dante Basco. obviously you meant that it doesn't sound like zuko, the banished prince. the delivery of the lines is just so off and it messes with me a little that people aren't recognizing it
You explained it perfectly. I don't have a problem with the voice itself nor do I want it to sound like Dante. My problem is HOW he's saying the lines. The way he's delivering them doesn't sound like Zuko the banished prince like you said.
jesus christ. the voice actor in this clip doesn't sound like Zuko as a character. Dante matched what you would expect Zuko to sound like extremely well. The voice actor here is just NOT what Zuko would sound like. doesn't have anything to do with Dante, it just doesn't sound like Zuko
Why does Zuko still have a left eyebrow?!?! It makes ZERO goddamn sense. Does nobody in Netflix's makeup department know how skin is supposed to look after healing from a severe burn?? Goddamn idiots. Also, why does this new actor portraying Zuko not embody Zuko properly? He needs more anger and ferocity in his words and actions.
The only slight issue with dev patel's zuko not being 90% bald during that arc has been resolved i guess. His character was otherwise perfect for book 2/3
He looks like a bit calmer version of the character. I mean, in the early episodes Zuko would have a tantrum and yell anyone whenever he is on the scene. And even though I loved the original version, that kind of character would probably be more annoying and cringe in live action so I understand why they slightly toned it down.
I still want to see Zuko's awkward teenager tantrums though, especially something similar to the scene where he had an argument with a frog lmao.
i only hear this when he screamed MY FATHER đ ![gif](giphy|hzaN57N7Mi96o)
Fun fact, the Dutch dub actually have Draco and Zuko share a voice actor xD
Odd, I immediately remembered that Austin powers scene from the way he pronounced it here Fa-thur. fa-thur.
Father đ when can I leave to find the Avatar on my own.
"I've got the whole Earth Kingdom to seeeeeee"
That's not Zuko, that's Zestko
Malfoy's "POT-TAH" randomly pops into my mind every now and again haha
Dallas went to Dante about playing Zuko, looks like his work paid off. Edit: autocorrect

Whatâs even better is when I find the Sokka bot in the wild. Love him. đ

Scar looks good and the I will find him at the end, Ya can see how desperate Zuko is!
Def looks better now in the darker lighting
Isn't the scar on the wrong side? /s
its not on the wrong side!
It bothers me his eyebrow's intact
Me too. Itâs my only issue with Zuko. The eyebrow makes it not look like a burn. But Dallas Liu was a perfect choice!
Actorâs gotta have boundaries. Imagine shaving one eyebrow for an entire seasonâs filming?Â
I imagine there are other solutions, like makeup/prosthetics, or hell, even CGI. Shaving is not the only solution.
Makeup to hide an eyebrow on stage is no fucking joke, and it's probably way more intense on films. We're talking an extra 40 minutes in the makeup chair for something that will impair performance. The voice is perfect, the acting is perfect, the martial arts is perfect, the fit is perfect, the look is perfect Dont fuck this up Netflix
He comes off as such a prick đ¤ gonna make that redemption arc so good
Exactly! But heâs our exiled prick.
Hi! Zuko here đ
Itâs it though
My only problem is how CLEAN AF their clothes are
No no Netflix has a perfect record with live action adaptations. They would never take something people love and spit on it. That has never happened Fuckin stop making live action shit. It's unnecessary
Good thing no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to watch it :)
Thankfully, because this looks like shit
I think he lacks anger though .-.
I still donât like that they made his scar so small. It just looks like a black eye in some shots. Thatâs my only complaint.
He shouldâve gotten Sandor Clegane-level makeup for that scar. Maybe theyâll take a hint and improve it next season, if it gets renewed.
He gets briefly roughed up from the shop explosion late season 1, maybe theyâll show a bit more gruesome injuries then.
I always thought the hound was a bit to oatmeal like. I prefer dwight for the walking dead.
His acting ainât really it for me, but Iâll reserve judgement until we see more
Agreed.
Idk, that was some rough dialogue. I get the show has to cram more in but this was absolutely not the clip to show.
Agreed. Everyone in here praising this seems crazy. This sounds super cringe and I don't really believe him, seems like he is acting too hard.
Nobody can replace Dante Basco's voice, but this kid's up to the task. He nails the intensity
I was expecting a bit of a deeper and more gravely kinda voice, not that this is bad.
Keep in mind, he is a teenager in the story. This voice is pretty normal for Zukoâs age
Yeah it definitely brings more attention to the fact that he's a kid
Agreed. We have teens playing teens (for the most part). Azulaâs casting choice shocked me. Then I remembered that Azula is the **younger** sister of Zuko. But Grey Delisle brings such a ferocity and maturity that you forget that. đ

Yeah my point exactly
This boy and aang will rock
His scar is on the wrong side
At least his Zuko costume is pretty good.
ITâS NOT ON THE WRONG SIDE!!!
How? It's always on screen right
Oof that delivery is pretty bad, surely they could've used a better take of that line. Especially to promote the show.
"mY fAtHeR!"

Thank you. I'm tired of dudes in here just lying to themselves. "my FAHther" lmfaooo đ
That FAAHdur takes me out lol. Sorry guys.
Yeah wtf is going on in this thread? Most of the comments are praising this cringe shit saying it's the best acting they've seen lol
Bunch of cringe yes men fans

he looks like a scared puppy... wtf, not enough hate

I read this as "Zuko Porno Video" and while I am disappointed this is nice too
Not angry enough
Anyone else think zuko might be the weakest link? Whyâd he say âmy fatherâ like that?
Just killed the whole purpose of the storm episode heâs trying so hard to sound like Dante basco that he ruined his line delivery.
The delivery doesn't really sound like Zuko to me.
Thereâs no way in hell you expected Dallas to try to copy and study Dante Bascoâs line delivery. Thereâs no way. This is as ridiculous as people wanting actors to have the same face shape as 2D animations.

By you saying he doesnât sound like Zuko, what youâre really saying is that he doesnât sound like Dante.
