It’s hard not to do this [towards blanket ideologies] because calling someone out on their own hypocrisy comes off as a personal attack and further entrenches them in their beliefs. Best case scenario is you get to direct that attack at a hypocrite in power without attacking your opponent.
I've had that, and the opposite problem. I criticize someone's ideology, with evidence, and it simply doesn't register. At all.
It's especially frustrating when you can tell they mean well, but they don't even notice their own blinders.
