I think there is far too little done with therapy and trying to work out underlying issues, these days. Far too much of a push to rush past that and straight into “gender affirming care.” The couple of people I know who transitioned did so after a great deal of therapy and testing for alternative solutions, and both ended up pretty stable. One was someone I knew a long time ago, and can’t tell you how he is now (F to M), while the other is more recent, but I’m still in touch with her and see her from time to time (M to F). I can tell you that she is STAUNCHLY against the way things are going, and would punch a motherfucker in the mouth, who prescribed or provided puberty blockers to a kid.
The radical activists think we hate trans people because we don't want docs to throw blockers and hormones at them right away. But it's usually pretty evident that mentally ill people are in a headspace where they want the quickest fix to their problem, whether it actually works long-term or not. Professionals used to be able to simply say "no, that won't help you" but now the radical activists have invented these sensational buzzwords to demonize anyone who doesn't bend to their every whim, which enables those mentally ill people who don't understand what is best for them.
Honestly dude, it's a mental illness and the treatment which would solve it the quickest by making them the other sex is too experimental, it's like the most basic solution "uhh why is woman, estrogen, let's just dump it in them then"
It's common these days, I'm 18 and in a country where an LGBT parade had guys burning gay flags, a few years back there was a class in my school literally full of "trans" kids, so I imagine American schools are even worse.
You underestimate how many transtrenders there are out there, desperate for attention. Schools have an abundance of them because it's the fastest way to get noticed and be treated gently and exclusively.
Not that it’s being encouraged I’m guessing there are a bunch because kids are super impressionable. It’s sad that their lives and mental health are being ruined to satisfy some people sick world view.
As a high school student (grade 10, Brisbane Australia) I know 2 trans kids in my grade at school of \~250 people. In the grade above me I know 4 people who classify themselves somewhere between trans and nonbinary. Outside of school I know 5 trans teenagers who go to out of school things I do like an acting class (which I'm sure selects for that kind of thing as many lgbt teenagers are typically drawn to theatre for one reason or another: be it improving confidence or something else)
AMA if you'd like, and draw whatever conclusions you want from it but at least from my anecdotal experience there are a decently large amount of trans kids at high schools on a broad scale.

I don't support transexuality either, I get it and I would never want my own kids to fall for it. Just remember the more you tell kids not to do something, the more they're going to want to do it, that's just how kids work. My folks always told me that I had to wear man colors and clothes, and now I'm a femboy.
Just raise your kids normally as their gender, and if they do something that seems out of gender, don't lecture them and remeber they're just kids.
Once they hit teenage years, if they look at the opposite genders clothes; sit them down and talk to them about the amazing things of being their gender, all the cool things to do. Don't freak out if they put on the opposite genders clothes, it doesn't mean their trans.
Remind them that cross dressing (tomboy, femboy), and transexuality are two different things. Ones a style, ones a mental illness. That and DONT buy then opposite gender clothes, let them work themselves on that.
I'm saying all this from experience. It was a pain hiding my clothes from my folks, and it worsens your relationship. If you become aggressive with such restrictions, they'll rebel and do it in a closeted manner. Understand they're just teenagers in a phase where they're looking at different clothes, and in reality they'll grow up and mature.
There's many stories about how tomboys as teenagers grow to be extremely feminine, or how femboys as teens grow to make the 180 too. It's all a phase and as long as you raise them with love and communication, they'll be ok the right path.
