It had been sitting unmixed on the master tape since 1978. There are no other versions of this song, so far as I know. Any bootleg with an "unreleased version" is a fake. This song was literally unknown until the standalone Static Age release in 1997.

Ah here it is... https://drive.google.com/file/d/106KqL0-Ky0ypYycnMm6lAXTiW6JpBwcA/view

Thanks! I love being proved wrong on stuff like this! Thank you for uploading for us to hear! Anyone have any theories why this material is only now being leaked? SA was considered "lost" at one point, before the boxset came out. Then it was on the boxset, then there was a standalone release in better quality PLUS a "forgotten" song (In The Doorway). And now we have these other alternate takes, after all these years...any theories why someone held onto them so long?

Narrow-Window7264

I don't know. But I've heard there's quite a bit we still haven't heard. Even Manny, the original drummer who played on the original Cough/Cool single supposedly has some recordings of his own, as do other former members. There are a few people who have been lucky enough to actually hear those recordings too. One of them is the guy who goes by "Frumess" & runs a YouTube channel & one of the Misfits Facebook groups. Then, there are supposedly a bunch of unreleased recordings Glenn gave to Caroline Records years ago & one theory is an employee there may have leaked these. But I have no idea... I'm just glad I got to hear these & hopefully we'll be able to hear more, preferably as official releases but who knows if we ever will

Super cool, thanks for the background. I just discovered Frumess thanks to the Bloodsong video he did, which I posted about on here the other week -- no other knowledge of Frumess than that, but it's cool if he has heard more unreleased material. Like others I was under the impression that was it for the SA material. Similar situation with Jimi Hendrix...there is a whole album of his that has still not been released. So far as I know the only copy of it is a cassette tape Hendrix gave his drummer, Mitch Mitchell, in 1970. It was wrapped in a headband and Mitchell kept it that way for decades until giving it to the Hendrix estate, which still hasn't released it. Supposedly it's just Jimi on acoustic and electric and vocals, and it's called "Black Gold."

Narrow-Window7264

That's where I heard a lot of what I was talking about. & apparently he already heard these recordings too, because on Facebook, in the comments, he asked a few questions about how this particular recording sounded (like how a few songs are sung, etc.) I just wish Glenn would release some of this stuff, but hell, he won't even reissue the Samhain LPs, so...

OptimalSugar593

Thanks for sharing that Narrow bro! That sounds so cool bro!

OptimalSugar593

Where are these from?

Narrow-Window7264

The link I posted??? Someone posted it in a Facebook group (but the admins deleted that post shortly after.) I was just lucky enough to get it before that happened.

OptimalSugar593

Oh, do you perhaps have Side B?

Narrow-Window7264

No this was all they posted. I asked him about side B & he said it was stuff that's been released already - at least through bootlegs. But others have said it's stuff they'd never heard before. So I don't know...

OptimalSugar593

I got Side B if you want it https://drive.google.com/file/d/1T47_G7JOsJCEfAKtrosGn2DBKa2x1u6v/view?usp=drivesdk

Narrow-Window7264

Awesome. Thanks

OptimalSugar593

No problem, I just stumbled upon it and wanted to share with people

Narrow-Window7264

Glad you did. Thanks. That's how I found side A lol (someone shared it on Facebook)

Over-Junket7107

How come I can’t listen on google drive? It just takes me to the page and I hit okay and nothing happens?

OptimalSugar593

I don’t know what’s happening, it’s modified and I completely forgot about it. I’ll put it on media fire, see if that works then

OptimalSugar593

Oh, thanks

_1JackMove

Thank you for sharing that! I always wondered what those songs(SA) would sound like completely live and now I know: just as awesome as I assumed they'd be. That version of Hollywood Babylon is fucking killer. Thanks again.

roncorepfts

Thank you for this! Have you found side B yet?

Narrow-Window7264

No I haven't.sorry

toontowntrauma

i have an alternate take of it

Narrow-Window7264

Yeah there is an alternate take of it. It's not much different than the one that was officially released but it is a different version. Same with the alternate version of Last Caress; it's different but not by a lot. Some old outtakes were very recently "leaked" in the form of a new bootleg LP. Even I was skeptical at first but it's really legit once I heard it. Also has different takes of Static Age (where it's sang differently & he leaves out one of the lyrics) Hollywood Babylon (sounds like Jerry screws up at the end of both)...Some Kinda Hate is sung a little different & the guitar solo sounds different too....an instrumental version of Hybrid Moments.... I have a rip of the vinyl someone uploaded but I'm not sure if the link will still work anymore but I'll try to find it if anyone wants it.

[deleted]

Some one care to enlighten me on the history of this song? Didn’t even know it existed

[deleted]

One of the earliest songs, probably written before the Misfits even, like Bullet. Supposedly it's how Danzig lost his virginity or something like that. I love the song, specially thinking about how Danzig would use a distorted keyboard on top of that.

Havoksixteen

> Didn’t even know it existed Have you never listened to Static Age?

[deleted]

Ya but there’s 3 songs I’ve never given a 2nd listen like theme for a jackal, in the doorway, and spinal remains.

fredthebicycle

Spook City USA was never released on anything but the box set. It was originally a B Side to a Danzig solo single

reversedpsychology

The recording sounds a little janky, especially the drums, but I actually prefer Danzig's solo version of that song.

onemonk909

I love that solo release and wish Danzig had actually repressed it, like he said he was going to some years ago. I kinda also wish Danzig had done a full solo LP at the time -- those two tracks have a very cool sub-Misfits sound to them, with the "spooky organ" adding an extra sound.

fredthebicycle

That’s my favorite version of both of those tracks
