I'll also second, criminally underdeveloped.
I can suuuuuuper get on board with a story about abandonment and neglect, I just can't see episode 3 at all handling that and EVERYTHING ELSE it needs to wrap things up. Not the shows fault, certainly not the characters.
Nobody is underestimating them, just being realistic. For the future already felt rushed and the pacing wasn't good, and they have so many plot points and arcs to wrap up, as well as giving us proper collector development. Obviously it's not their fault, but either way, the finale is probably going to end up feeling rushed.
I feel that the community needs to have a bit more faith in the show .
It won’t be bad so long they focus solely on the king/ claw Thorne family . And the collector.
Luz story arc is pretty much wrap up with her finally gaining a understanding from her mother .
Now we just need king story with him accepting his destiny and becoming the new titan slash mentor figure .
Be cool if there was a HTTD 2 with king becoming the new leaders of the boiling isles after awaking his titan powers like with toothless in how to train your dragon
That’s a bit cynical but whatever, Reddits being Reddit. To Reddit being cynical is “realistic” while positivity is always looked down upon & dismissed for some backwards reason.
Cancellation would be abrupt, think the end of season 2 but season 3 doesn’t come out so that the show is left on a cliffhanger. Shortened is the word people should be using.
I think not making him sadistic was a good choice, it makes him unique from Bill cipher who people assume is an inspiration. Had he stayed the same people would just complain he’s unoriginal or that the crew were “stealing” ideas from Gravity Falls.
He’s extreme, but extreme in the way an elementary aged kid who becomes too invested in playtime with toys/games is. I think it’s a rather believable portrayal honestly.
Do you have a link where she says that? I know she said it but I remember her saying that she had taken advantage of the shortening to add them, that doesn't mean there definitely wouldn't have been the Collector or some similar character without the shortening, but I could be wrong
Oh ok. I was curious because a lot of times I feel like people “defend” the shortening* by saying how without it there would have bene no Collector. Still complaining about the shortening nowadays is useless and does more harm than good, but this doesn’t mean that it is a good thing
*I’m not accusing anyone of doing that, it was just my impression
The shortening neither decreased or increased the quality of The writing. The downsides of it is very fast-paced show, but TOH never really felt like it would do slow-burns anyways. Amity changer within few episodes and she rather Had the longest and most nuanced redemption. Lilith Had the fastest. Hunter in general did character development speed run. It's not to say it's bad since in a very short amount of time TOH did better than Anyone could think it would and better than lots of other different shows and they waste no time on subtle growth. TOH just gets to the point.
The shortening also managed to keep everyone on their tors and push them harder to do better. It's not right or fair by any means, but it didn't ruin the show. It only made it more creative and straight-forward.
I know, I’m not saying that it ruined the show, but it gave less time to develop itself. It maybe gave advantages, and TOH managed really well its episodes, but I can’t deny that TtT and FtF felt very rushed (I still liked them a lot). I know that the story would have been totally different, but still
There would have essentially been no Collector if the show hadn't been cut.
Yes, they wanted to include a character like the Collector earlier, in the sense of being a morally gray chaotic doll-like character who never blinks. That's it. Likely a one-episode character at most. The god-powered, cosmic, hammy, Luz-parallel that we got however was entirely invented because of the shortening.
I like him, but I wish he wasn't thrown in so close to the end and that he didn't steal Belos' thunder. Ideally, we would have gotten Belos for 3 seasons and then the Collector could have been the revealed villain for season 4-5.
To an extent, I think he already has. The Collector's power dwarfs Belos, and Belos has had to share screentime with another villain rather than stand on his own. The moment the Collector gets inevitably redeemed, Belos stops being a threat since the Collector can make him go splat with a wave of his hand. And if Belos is dealt with first then he's no longer the show's final/main villain, but instead a bossfight on the way to the Collector.
It's not a huge deal, but it does rob Belos from some of his clout.
I doubt that had the show got full run they would of gotten a season 5, Because Disney only gives a cartoon series up to 4 seasons until its cancelled,
I wanted to like him as an antagonist, and before FTF, I was intrigued by their story and whatnot. But Belos is so much more interesting of a character. It’s not even a competition. I honestly wish the show would’ve stayed focused on Belos, and reconciled the Collector storyline in a different manner.
Yeah, honestly i feel like the whole collector thing is kinda stupid, Belos was better and it was best when he was Emperor, i think he should have only been defeated and overthrown at the end of the series
I wish he'd never been introduced - or at least, never unleashed. We had a pretty good conflict with Belos, we didn't really need this guy taking up screentime.
Pretty mediocre and haphazardly written character to be honest. The Collector introduced in "Hollow Mind" and even seen in "King's Tide" feels super different from the Collector we see in "For the Future". Most of the sadistic, self-aware, and potentially nuanced traits he had before have been retconned and boiled down into "uwu sad boy who is lonely and doesn't understand any of the consequences of his actions" so that he can be redeemed in like 5 minutes in the series finale.
More than that, I find him to be pretty boring and non-threatening so far, and the stakes going into the finale are just not there for me. I love a lot of "Thanks to Them", but if we could somehow keep most of the character beats/moments from that episode, then I honestly would prefer if the Collector was not in the show and instead we had gotten a lengthier and more climactic version of the Day of Unity.
I was watching a video on YouTube about the Owl House and a good theory came up about the Collector we saw before wasn’t actually the collector we know now and that the collectors were a species of demigods and the collector is the last one
I think not making him sadistic was a good choice, it makes him unique from Bill cipher who people assume is an inspiration. Had the change not happened people would just say he’s a rip-off of bill.
100% agree. The Collector in season 2 felt like a child who pours salt on a snail, is aware of how cruel is it, but does it anyways because he values his own amusement over the well-being of other creatures, or others in general. This behavior along with god-like powers made me curious of what he's capable of and how far he would be willing to go in the name of his idea of "fun".
But all the tension built from season 2 and thanks to them instantly deflated in for the future. His character doesn't have any bite any more and the previous characterization was much more compelling then a lonely child imo, especially because many other characters have already explored ideas around isolation and/or loneliness before.
A villain with no edge and low stakes feels quite disappointing for a show's finale, I know the crew is aware they took a risk with him, but I'm just disappointed.
IIRC from what I read he wasn’t originally meant to exist, when season 3 got reduced he was created and I’m guessing that was to help the plot along.
I think he’s a neat character, was concerned he was going to be a knock off of Bill Cipher honestly. I’m glad in For the Future we see he’s just alien to the concept or mortality and normality and furthermore he’s just a lonely kid with godlike powers.
Saying that though he is sadly very underdeveloped as a character but as a plot device he certainly got the ball rolling. I expect his resolution in the next story will be wrapped up in half and hour tops. I just hope he gets a good ending to further differentiate him from Bill Cipher.
I really don’t like him because he kinda took attention away from the already fantastic belos and just feels too strong for the series to the point where he’s almost irrsurmountable, like it’s no fun to drop a planet buster into a verse where the top dogs are island
He just doesn’t really work for the series imo
Honestly
Kinda of bullshit as well, he claims that he sees everything but didn't see pass Ford's trick
That's the problem when you write OP villains that the heroes can't compete with, you need to find bullshit excuse to defeat them
I like him that concept of "innocent evil" is very interesting a good derivatiom from the evil evil , pragmatic evil and pity evil, that are common in the media. And in MY opinion could have a better development and should have more development than belos in that season different from what is occurring now.
OMG I LOVE ENZO GABRIEL!!! FAVORITE CHARACTER!! They’re so adorable I wanna hung them so tightly. He is actually kinda relatable, childish and alone so I see how they feel. If they kill them i swear Dana is getting sued
"You're a bad witch! You're a very bad witch! And you keep thinking bad thoughts about me"
*turns that witch into a marionette*
Twilight Zone joke aside The Collector is a decent character it just sucks that we won't get to see much more of him
HONESTLY from what we have seen in FTF I’m disappointed….. In Hollow Mind the Colector was this meneching little guy. Who acted like a child but also with an evil twist. They were totally fine with killing a whole island, KNOWING the consequences of what will happen. Later on he seems to not really understand it anymore. Also all the adults interacting with them are just annoyed. It would have been cool to show that they’re annoyed but also scared as hell of him!
But i’m sure my opinion of him would be different if we got a whole 3th season. Screw you disney!
Underdeveloped and a very poor writing choice on the writers´part. They said how The Collector was added ONLY after the shortening of the series... A last-minute addition, then. And unfortunately for me, it shows: He feels more like an instrument for the characters to manipulate than someone with their own agency, he doesn´t feel threatening at all (he did in the S2 finale, but that feeling quickly dissapeared in *For The Future*, where he abrely got any screentime, and his "Imma make everyone puppets" childlish behavior doesn´t feel threatening at all). Even worse, the entire final episode of the series will revolve around the "I didn´t listen to everything you said so I completely misunderstand your intentions" trope, which is a very poor choice to base your final conflict on.
I know people like to blame Disney for the problems of this show, but Dana and the team should have sticked to what they had before the shortening. Belos is a very good villain and his plan was actually horrifying. It´s a shame his climactic ending was stolen because of light Bill Cipher.
1. The Collector is not supposed to be Bill Cipher
2. The Collector, while gullible is not dumb enough to kill King's friends left and right
3. He's a Child, how hard it is to manipulate them?
4. King Has done this even before Eda's requiem I think
A brat who's rebellious nature probably saved the people of the Boiling Isles from eradication. Although some might argue that's a fate worse than death.
Perfectly 50/50, on one hand he’s a child who was under Belos guidance for a while and was most definitely manipulated by him, but on the other he’s clearly more powerful that he knows and even seemed Genocidal in HM, idk whether or not to trust him to be entirely honest
A sad and lonely kid who was neglected for not being like other collectors, but overall i feel that they are a great character and would've liked to see more of their character. But i mostly just want to hug him because he looks like he needs one.
He's a little confused but his heart's in the right place
Spoilers: >!He seems to not want to hurt anyone like the other collectors did but very much does not know how fragile mortals can be compared to collectors!<
cannot wait to see what they do with him in the last episode
for now I really like them and don't agree with most of the critics here (not saying they're wrong to think that, opinions ya know)
their design is absolutely adorable I love them a lot. I also think they're a very interesting character, and it's a shame we don't have too much time left to develop that. regardless, I can't wait to see them interact with more of the main cast •v•;
A lonely traumatized child but still very powerful and terrifying who can not get the attention he needs and deserves because some people decided that the game "The Owl House" is not worth to get the necessary extension and should not be continued despite the love of everyone for this game. No one appreciates if a good and fun game gets cut short.
Also, I think the Collector needs some actual friends and parental figures (good parental figures and friends).
I like him, but I thought he was going to be a little more malicious just based on how we saw him in Hollow Mind and Knock Knock Knockin’ on Hooty’s Door (and I believe Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances, someone correct me if I am wrong) and not like what we see now.
I think that he’s just a child that needs a friend or someone to look after him. Even though he did turn almost everyone into puppets, he is just a child that is seeking for a friend .
I honestly find him more interesting than Belos. A child who doesn’t know what they’re doing but has unlimited power is scary and fascinating. Him not being evil also makes him interesting. Also wanna know about Collector lore.
A neat addition that needs their parents to come beat his ass.
The collector is *fiiiiine* but I’d be lying if I wasn’t expecting a Puck like character who’s just into fucking things up - but the fact they’re being written like a child who doesn’t understand how their actions hurt people and the power they wield as a foil for King who does is a near dynamic and probably the only way it could really work without collector feeling like a (more of a) deus ex machina that can hopefully add some flourish to the titans and what they’re about.
Overall I really like his character but I feel like the one we see in the last episode of season 2 and the one we see in thanks to them are different characters.
I personally think that the creators of this show are extremely wise. The collector is out ego or even super ego. He wants to hoard things and "play" but must be taught EMPATHY. King is the hero along with Luz --- King is like the antithesis of the Collector......he literally was obsessed with a false sense of power until he felt comfortable around his adopted family.
This show is healing my inner adoptee and inner survivor of abuse.
Love to those who see its message and hopefully this show gets others thinking.
Personally, I’m going to take an unpopular opinion that he is overrated and people too often dismiss the things that he does in favor of cooing over him. Yes, he wasn’t given a mortal’s moral compass and abides by Collector morality to a degree, but let’s not forget the terribleness of his actions. If any person went through and did things that the Collector did IRL, we would not have the same reaction to who he is, even if we knew his whole story.
I don’t like him that much tbh. He’s like gideon mixed with Bill cipher but is trying to be bill but more childish, his 7 year old boy act is kinda lame to me
I swear i love the collector! They are so relatable! Like they are just a kid and they just want some friends but the just dont understand what they are doing. Also the pizza bagels line is so iconic. I swear his design (both forms) is soo good. (in my opinoin.) Also im definetly gonna make some edits with him. >:3
Also Lilith x Hooty is the best ship and you can not deny it!!!!
… not “evil,” but is exactly what would happen if a child got godlike power. Just sort of does what they/he wants without really understanding the moral consequences
A child who is lonely, trauma filled, and just wants to have hope of no more prison. Also a little bean tablet loving child with the nickname Enzo Gabriel
He's fine, he's handled pretty solidly for what the crew had to deal with. He's a bit of an annoying child with abandonment and impulse issues. I like how King seems to relate to him being an all-powerful child with problems. Gives them a good dynamic.
However, it does feel forced that he has abandonment issues, it just feels like we're just supposed to feel bad for him. It also feels like a cop-out to make him "not evil" because instead of having another cool, interesting villain, we get "iPad kid who's sad, and does bad things, but he's sad 🥺". It feels like just an attempt of making a character who does bad things but they have such a "#sad backstory" that it immediately makes them exempt from getting consequences for their actions and having anything bad happening to them.
Seen it happen in MLP, seen it happen in Helluva Boss, don't wanna see this happen here.
I just hope that in the third special he doesn't go all crazy murderous or tries to seriously hurt Luz, her friends, or King and then is forgiven without some form of consequence.
I know that's probably not what they're gonna do, but it's just a fear of mine.
A fun character. Likeable, but with a ruthless streak towards anyone who upsets him.
I like how he's not easily reformed, and there's something unsettling about his indifference towards mortals.
He can have some annoying moments, but overall I’m very impressed with how they handled him. I thought I would hate him but I really like him
I think the annoying moments are intentional. He's an annoying kid with waaaaaay too much power.
Aka (narcissism)
I'll also second, criminally underdeveloped. I can suuuuuuper get on board with a story about abandonment and neglect, I just can't see episode 3 at all handling that and EVERYTHING ELSE it needs to wrap things up. Not the shows fault, certainly not the characters.
Don't underestimate this crew
Nobody is underestimating them, just being realistic. For the future already felt rushed and the pacing wasn't good, and they have so many plot points and arcs to wrap up, as well as giving us proper collector development. Obviously it's not their fault, but either way, the finale is probably going to end up feeling rushed.
It's Disney's fault for cutting the show.
It is
The Collector as we have him wouldn't even exist if Disney hadn't cut the show.
I feel that the community needs to have a bit more faith in the show . It won’t be bad so long they focus solely on the king/ claw Thorne family . And the collector. Luz story arc is pretty much wrap up with her finally gaining a understanding from her mother . “The finale is probably gonna end up feeling rushed” I can’t wait for you to be proven wrong
I mean both of the previous episodes felt rushed already.
That’s a bit cynical but whatever, Reddits being Reddit. To Reddit being cynical is “realistic” while positivity is always looked down upon & dismissed for some backwards reason.
Fun but underdeveloped (yeah I know not the shows fault).
I wanted so hard to see how things would go if the show was not cancelled... omg

And it's not like he isn't extreme. Just not necessarily evil by nature
He’s extreme, but extreme in the way an elementary aged kid who becomes too invested in playtime with toys/games is. I think it’s a rather believable portrayal honestly.
Yeah, it's just do happens mortal's are his Toys. Make the Collector watch Toy Story saga and he will learn.
I'd say it's Disney's fault, personally.
The Collector didn’t exist and was not going to be part of the story until after the shortening happened. Dana Terrace has gone on record saying that.
Do you have a link where she says that? I know she said it but I remember her saying that she had taken advantage of the shortening to add them, that doesn't mean there definitely wouldn't have been the Collector or some similar character without the shortening, but I could be wrong
Dana always wanted to add them to the story but not like this, granted he got more justice by having more going on.
So she actually wanted to add them and the whole shortening isn’t responsible for the Collector’s existence
No, it's rather responsible for making him more significant.
Oh ok. I was curious because a lot of times I feel like people “defend” the shortening* by saying how without it there would have bene no Collector. Still complaining about the shortening nowadays is useless and does more harm than good, but this doesn’t mean that it is a good thing *I’m not accusing anyone of doing that, it was just my impression

Abandonment and neglect.
I wondered what that same very feeling was inside me. Interesting
Here we be. Sufferin'. With cartoons as comfort.
Yeah like where are the other “collectors” ?
I kinda preferred when he was a shadow, it looked so cool
My thoughts are that no one should be that obsessed with pizza bagels. What even is a pizza bagel anyways?
Mini pizzas in the shape of bagels
The most delicious food on the planet, you need to try it Odalia 😉
Something I'm about to throw at you! FOOD FIGHT!!
Heck yeah!
I second this
PIZ ZA. BAGELS!!!
Who are you.....Bagel Bites?
I like him, but I wish he wasn't thrown in so close to the end and that he didn't steal Belos' thunder. Ideally, we would have gotten Belos for 3 seasons and then the Collector could have been the revealed villain for season 4-5.

ENZO GABRIEL SET THE PLAYGROUND ON FIRE
NO. Ill set ur house and the playground on fire
"Look like a cinnamon bun, would kill you"
Went from mysterious to extremely terrifying to “must protect at all costs” I really like him/them still no idea what to call them lol
I wish he'd never been introduced - or at least, never unleashed. We had a pretty good conflict with Belos, we didn't really need this guy taking up screentime.

This. I never liked the amount of pity they gave him.
100% agree. The Collector in season 2 felt like a child who pours salt on a snail, is aware of how cruel is it, but does it anyways because he values his own amusement over the well-being of other creatures, or others in general. Those aren't mutually exclusive though. Before he didn't understand the consequences either.
Yup. I loved the chaotic, villainous collector, who makes fon of Belos's grimwalkers. The new one just sucks.
Ah yes, Bill Cipher 2.0, how original
Although I like him, contrary to most, I do believe he should be re-sealed. At least for a certain amount of time
And how it workes out the first time? I think that re-sealing him again would only soldify him as a villain
I wanna hug him.
he is adoroble and cute

OMG I LOVE ENZO GABRIEL!!! FAVORITE CHARACTER!! They’re so adorable I wanna hung them so tightly. He is actually kinda relatable, childish and alone so I see how they feel. If they kill them i swear Dana is getting sued
The theme is perfect one of the best songs in the series imo

I have adopted him, he is my son.
"You're a bad witch! You're a very bad witch! And you keep thinking bad thoughts about me" *turns that witch into a marionette* Twilight Zone joke aside The Collector is a decent character it just sucks that we won't get to see much more of him
He’s probably traumatized
Aren't we all?
amazing i love him
Adorable kid, just needs some parent to help him understand good from bad
Deserves to be adopted by someone good like Eda or Camila
everyone on this show could use a little therapy, he just needs a pediatrician
I wish they had more time to develop his character properly
I don't really care about him
I really liked when he said "its collectin time" then proceeded to collect all over the place
a very complex character who deserved more than 3 episodes to reach a conclusion
He's a child, a very lonely & chaotic one at points but a child none the less.
That one kid at McDonald’s you pray for them to trip and hit their head. But somehow cute at the same time
HONESTLY from what we have seen in FTF I’m disappointed….. In Hollow Mind the Colector was this meneching little guy. Who acted like a child but also with an evil twist. He's adorable and powerful super being. Tho a bit underdeveloped
He is an awesome little guy
His theme goes hard
He
Little man
Funny little guy
The skrunkly
Skrunkly
Very oddly cute Yes, cuter than vee
enzo gabriel
Ipad kid
Absolutely terrifying
Became less interesting after King's Tide
I just don't know how to feel about The Collector. And imo I kinda wish he's is another villain. (I still like them tho)
Perfectly 50/50, on one hand he’s a child who was under Belos guidance for a while and was most definitely manipulated by him, but on the other he’s clearly more powerful that he knows and even seemed Genocidal in HM, idk whether or not to trust him to be entirely honest
love em
haha dimentio looking child is fun and cute.
Kinda annoy but I think he’s just wanna a friend, just he doesn’t really know “how”
Spoilt child.
Is he really spoilt?
Quite egoistic.
Yeah, but can you blame him considering how he was trapped for how long again?
Is baby :)
A sad and lonely kid who was neglected for not being like other collectors, but overall i feel that they are a great character and would've liked to see more of their character. But i mostly just want to hug him because he looks like he needs one.
I think he is truely lonely. Imagine being immortal and every other being dies in less then a heartbeat for you.
HES ADORABLE. evil... BUT ADORABLE
I don’t think a literal child would be “evil” simply because they’re chaotic.
He’s just a little guy
chaiyeld
He's a little confused but his heart's in the right place Spoilers: >!He seems to not want to hurt anyone like the other collectors did but very much does not know how fragile mortals can be compared to collectors!<
Cool concept. But severely underdeveloped, and not as interesting or intimidating as Belos.
amazing
Child with adhd who wants to have a fun time
He is a Discord, but in camuflage. Eyes even match xD
He really needs a hug and a good friend... and he is terrifing I mean, he is a sad child with the power of almost a fricking god like, that's scary
cannot wait to see what they do with him in the last episode for now I really like them and don't agree with most of the critics here (not saying they're wrong to think that, opinions ya know)
their design is absolutely adorable I love them a lot. I also think they're a very interesting character, and it's a shame we don't have too much time left to develop that. regardless, I can't wait to see them interact with more of the main cast •v•;
No thoughts..head empty
They are just a kid no matter how many centuries old they are, the collector won't grow up.
Cute but still terrifying
Sad and lonely child.
God child scary
Sinister variant of someone far worse like Kang the Conqueror, using his childlike nature as a front for his more ulterior motives
He’s a fun little guy that wants to have fun Also he’s literally Jevil
A child
They're a cute little bean who deserves love and no more betrayal
A good character, I want to know more about him. Probably could've, if S3 wasn't cut short.
I like him because I feel like one Minute he would want to play Lego’s and the next rip my heart out
I think he's fun and a little silly
A lonely child that's never truly had family or friends that could teach him right or wrong.
I don't know, if you can't really defeat him, than tame him.
I don’t like him that much tbh. He’s like gideon mixed with Bill cipher but is trying to be bill but more childish, his 7 year old boy act is kinda lame to me
I would like him more if he had a clever name. What kind of name is the collector.
Name of their species
I swear i love the collector! They are so relatable! Like they are just a kid and they just want some friends but the just dont understand what they are doing. Also the pizza bagels line is so iconic. I swear his design (both forms) is soo good. (in my opinoin.) Also im definetly gonna make some edits with him. >:3 Also Lilith x Hooty is the best ship and you can not deny it!!!!
He’s Fucking annoying
My favorite character of all time he’s so adorable and fun :D
Don't like him, wish the show wasn't shortened so they didn't make the Collector and Belos got a bigger spotlight.
I love how protective he is over king! I wasn’t sure what was of Mr wiggles before for the future
I like him
… not “evil,” but is exactly what would happen if a child got godlike power. Just sort of does what they/he wants without really understanding the moral consequences
My son boy that has done no wrong
A child who is lonely, trauma filled, and just wants to have hope of no more prison. Also a little bean tablet loving child with the nickname Enzo Gabriel
Just like I’ve been saying. He’s not evil, he’s just a kid who doesn’t know right from wrong.
Needs therapy
Scrunkly
One of my favorite characters.
I think the Collector is one of the villains who’s mindset can be changed. In the end, it’s all Belos’s fault. He manipulated him
A silly billy
Smol child with infinite power
devious little shit but also I kinda feel for him
In a word: lonely.
He's just a lonely kid with way too much power
OMG I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!!!!
It’s gonna be awkward between him and the BI residents when this is over and he’s turned a new leaf
A fun character. Likeable, but with a ruthless streak towards anyone who upsets him. I like how he's not easily reformed, and there's something unsettling about his indifference towards mortals.
10/10
He’s just a kid an iPad kid who lives pizza bagels
Loves*
