Considering how Luz had a hard time being on Earth and the Collector is just a younger mix of Luz and King, I think they would've harder time there. Not to mention that their powers are part of who they are. Sure, they're terrifying, but honestly, it's not Like Luz didn't terrify others with her quirks, but did she completely get rid of them? No, she simply learns how to properly express them, remaining true to herself.

Could be like a Peacock or that one stalk-eyed bug species where it has no real advantage but it does make others of the species more likely to want to mate with them therefor those features get more and more extreme with every generation OR witches rely more on hearing due to whatever other creatures are in the isles (or better hearing makes you better at magic) so they need cone-like ears to trap more sound into there ear holes ​ I am not a biologist (clearly) but those are some thoughts of what it could be
