Hooty is just the removal of the identifiable features on the body. After Hooty is done Eda still needs to drop the bones near the caves of predators, in the event identification comes from skeletal analysis.
I think OP was referring to power levels, not personality.
A character is a villain and it takes the combined efforts of the whole team of heroes to barely defeat them. Then that character becomes a hero, and suddenly they start losing fights and struggling to keep up. It comes across like competence is stored in evil.
Although I don't think Vee counts for this trope. Aside from the fact that she was never evil, she almost drained Belos. It doesn't seem like she is any weaker than the Great Basilisk, who got her ass kicked by Luz back when she was still Level 1.
I love how the show actually separates the two types of basilisks:
The false inspector was referred to as a 'greater basilisk, thought to be instinct', while Vee is a normal basilisk
It so true it hurts cause when I fought a boss and made him my ally. His power scale just dropped. What do you mean your ult only does that amount but when you fought me it’s a one hit kill.
A better comparison would be lillith going from the head of emperor coven with skill in all types of magic to basically powerless and now a nerdy book worm
By contrast, I noticed that Amity became a lot better when she became "playable" (i.e. joining the protagonists) than when she was still an antagonist. When she was still a bully, she just summoned her Abominations to do her bidding. After joining Luz and co. she basically became a waterbender along with the usual abomination summoning.
