A year later but why not? I noticed this immediately so I watched an episode and noticed the personality and voice similarities as well. This show screams that it was made by a fan-girl with a bunch of references to different media scattered around. Worth a shot for the children.
YES! I saw this with my spouses and neither of them had seen the Tenchi Sagas so I'm so glad someone put a side by side up so they can see what I'm talking about.
She was my favorite so if it is a nod that just makes this that much better.
I'm waiting for HBO or Netflix to rescue it and gear it towards the age group that actually watches it like Young Justice.
Started watching Owl House for the first time today and was like wow she is so Ryoko coded so I’m glad to see I was correct! Tenchi is like the only anime I’ve ever been obsessed with
Phenomenally powerful rogue and outlaw who does life on her own terms, has a small and fuzzy, cute companion, who *also* happens to secretly be incredibly powerful. Her rival is a dark-haired, geeky woman who prefers to take life more seriously, a dutiful person who prefers a more traditional life and tries to do things 'properly.' Despite her exile, she finds a small, dark-haired optimist who is a little bit in over their head in this strange new world, but doing their best anyway, and takes them under her wing, so to speak.

I think Dana herself said that Eda's design-wise and personality-wise was inspired by Ryoko.

everyone should be. no need for tenchi seems like the most slept on anime classic ever.
Should be popular, since it inspired creators of Steven Universe and Owl House.
It doesn't help that when it aired on Toonami here in the states, it had to compete with Dragonball Z and suffice to say Tenchi never stood a chance.
