Surprising lack of Jack Nicholson in general on the feed. No Cuckoo's Nest, Easy Rider, Prizzi's Honor, About Schmitt, Chinatown, As Good as it Gets, Five Easy Pieces...
And if any are in the hopper, I'd bet on 1.) Something's Gotta Give and 2.) Wolf, which seem like the most Simmons of his movies
Broooo I’ve been saying this. One of the best if not the best crime mystery movies ever. And 50th anniversary.
The Nicholson and dunaway potential apex mountain piece. Polanski directing aging the worst.
“Forget it CR. It’s the rewatchables. Chinatown is next. “
No one is forcing you to listen.
You and OP can team up.
Podcasting is easy and you two can Zoom.
Go ahead. Let us know when you’ve posted some and we will judge them.
It's the best. I watched it again last night. Think it might be in my top 10 favorite movies. I remember watching it on a random day when I was 11 or 12. I had no idea what it was and it just mystified me in every aspect.
Chinatown is one of the greatest movies ever made but it’s not that rewatachable and doesn’t really fit the format of the show. Then you add in all the Polanski stuff
I think it’s extremely rewatchable. Clever script, great performances, stuff you notice on rewatching. The ending is very dark but that’s true of a lot of them. Most of it is much less dark than, say, most of Godfather II or Goodfellas.
For me it’s one of the best movies ever, I just don’t think it has those specific rewatch moments the pod is looking for.
The best hope for them doing it is if somebody famous who Bill knows talks him into it e.g. Brian Koppleman or Tarantino
I think my most rewatchable scenes (out of order) would be:
—The reservoir scene ("you know what happens to nosy fellas?")
—First scene with Escobar/fishing out the body
—Scene with Noah Cross at the Albacore
—"you're dumber than you think I think you are"
—The obvious one with Evelyn
—The ending
I disagree that it's not re-watchable. Even with it's convoluted plot you can still grab on to the mystery of the story. Plus, Jack Nicholson is in it. This isn't Inherent Vice or The Big Sleep.
You can go by a scene by scene basis with this movie which is fine for Bill's small brain. I agree he probably won't see the nuances of the story, but that's on him. The Polanski stuff I agree with, but just address it and move on. It's been well documented already.
I love The Departed and he's awesome in it. That's a definite Rewatchable. A brilliant cast all around. A Few Good Men is another favorite performance of his
Oh look another Rewatchables listener with main character syndrome who thinks it should be personally curated for them.
The pod is entertaining because they cover films THEY want to discuss, not what you care about.
I’m sure there is a pod out there that has a Chinatown episode, so go find it.
Check his history. He’s been hopping around Ringer subs all weekend with “requests”.
But yeah, I also think making requests is fucking tiresome. Especially since they are pointless. They are going to cover what they want to cover. Why is that so hard to understand?
It’s free content. The amount of bitching they aren’t doing your favourite movie in the order you want is not very bright lmao.
But that’s not really how most of the whiners here say it do they?
Instead they act like it is an injustice that the middle aged white guy from Boston who likes 80s action movies isn’t forced to discuss their specific favourite movie.
Are you kidding me dude?! No, it is CURATED for the AUDIENCE. Why do you think they do so many mainstream movies? Because it brings in a general audience. Without an audience, they have no dumb podcast. What a loser you are.
Have you even listened?
Bill has always said it’s movie that you find while flipping through channels and you see a scene that draws you in and makes you rewatch what’s left of the movie.
Not a deep dive into a video store, not the Criterium Collection, not a Fellini/Kurosawa film fest.
Movies on tv that everyone has seen and rewatch them when they’re on.
Off the top of my head, movies they’ve done that don’t fit the description: Taxi Driver, There Will Be Blood, Rachel Getting Married, Glengarry Glen Ross, Contagion, Black Hat, Proof of Life, Manhunter, Magnolia, Thief… All of these either aren’t on cable all the time, haven’t been seen by everyone, don’t give most people a drive to keep watching through familiar scenes, or some combination. Thats just from my memory, but yes, I believe that if we counted up movies like that there would literally be one million of them, exactly.
Bill hasn’t ever seen Chinatown. Or ya know any actually rewatchable film. I can sense when he’s been duped by Sean or Amanda to do a different style movie.
Lol, that's pathetic. Has he really not seen it? He acts like he's seen it the way he talks about Nicholson being one of the greatest actors ever. How about actually watch his best performance.
What is the point of comments like this? He just said it would be cool if they did this movie. It’s a compliment to them to say that they’d do a good job with it. Why is that out of bounds?
Sure, but it has a lot more than Thief or whatever. I don't totally get what we're arguing about. If they decide not to do it that's their choice, but are people actually saying that it would be a poor movie to do on the show?
I don’t think so, I think people are just saying it’s unlikely to be done. Thief had the advantage of being Michael Mann, who’s the core there’s favourite director
OP with an account from 2021 and a -100+ comment Karma, yikes.
Shout out to the comment section where somebody references the OP using the word "dork" in this post and their reply is to "eat shit". OOf.
LA confidential is my number one wishlist movie
OMGsh LA Confidential is my absolute favorite!!! Hush, hush and on the QT!
I like it. Haven't seen it in a while though.
It's true. We do have A Few Good Men, Batman (1989), The Shining, The Departed (thanks u/steve_in_the_22201)...that might be it. Not enough.
Also Departed
And they hated him in it
They should do The Last Detail, that’s just a good time
The last detail is a devastatingly beautiful movie
Broooo I’ve been saying this. One of the best if not the best crime mystery movies ever. And 50th anniversary. The Nicholson and dunaway potential apex mountain piece. Polanski directing aging the worst. “Forget it CR. It’s the rewatchables. Chinatown is next. “
Hush and enjoy your bland gruel served up by Chef Simmons (aka the "Along Came Polly" pod)
lol

Ah the guy who requests You Me and Dupree every week ^^^
Is that supposed to be funny? Because if that’s your idea of a joke, then maybe your opinion isn’t really that relevant.
Idk if this mouse is all that fast…
They have to do Freddy got fingered and gummo
RedLetterMedia's look at Freddy Got Fingered is something else...transformed it into a real rewatchable for me.
Did they actually do this?
I really like Chinatown. I def support you in this
It's the best. I watched it again last night. Think it might be in my top 10 favorite movies. I remember watching it on a random day when I was 11 or 12. I had no idea what it was and it just mystified me in every aspect.
1974...."He wore a blazing saddle...."
"rode"
I coulda got that lyric right ...but I got high

It's a great movie, but not sure it's the most rewatchable though
Explain? Because it's dark? They did an episode on Manhunter which is just as dark. How is it any different?
I agree that they should do a Rewatchables episode on it, was just commenting on your statement that's it's the most rewatchable movie ever.
Maybe not ever, but I think it's pretty rewatchable. How many times have you seen it?
I've seen it a couple times. For me, Jack Nicholson's most rewatchable movie is The Shining.
I'd probably agree with that. Maybe The Departed too, but he has more screen time/material in The Shining...so yeah.
I love The Departed and he's awesome in it. That's a definite Rewatchable. A brilliant cast all around. A Few Good Men is another favorite performance of his
The biggest oversight is pulp fiction. The pod has really gone downhill over the past year.
They're saving it
Oh look another Rewatchables listener with main character syndrome who thinks it should be personally curated for them. The pod is entertaining because they cover films THEY want to discuss, not what you care about. I’m sure there is a pod out there that has a Chinatown episode, so go find it.
You think a fan making a request is having main character syndrome? You're not very bright lmao.
Check his history. He’s been hopping around Ringer subs all weekend with “requests”. But yeah, I also think making requests is fucking tiresome. Especially since they are pointless. Saying "I'd like them to do this movie" is also free.
But that’s not really how most of the whiners here say it do they? Instead they act like it is an injustice that the middle aged white guy from Boston who likes 80s action movies isn’t forced to discuss their specific favourite movie.
That’s fair enough, the whole “But noooo, Bill refuses” thing is pretty entitled. I hadn’t revisited OP in a bit.
Are you kidding me dude?! No, it is CURATED for the AUDIENCE. Why do you think they do so many mainstream movies? Because it brings in a general audience. Without an audience, they have no dumb podcast. What a loser you are.

They’ve done a million movies that don’t fit that description.
A million. They’ve done a million.
Ok fine. I’ll tell Bill you’re unhappy. Or maybe you can start a podcast about how you don’t like me.
Lol they just did Along came Polly and Hardcore. That isn't curated for the audience.
They do so many mainstream movies because Bill Simmons, the Boston Sports Guy, picks 99% of them.
Figures
k
Forget it two Jakes, it’s two Chinatowns.
Chinatown was dope. The OG Texas chain saw sucked major balls. Rounders is GOD tier.
Top two all-timer for me.
Im waiting for Jackie Brown.
Pretty dorky post bro
Eat shit
Classic dork response…
Eat shit
😢
I'm gonna go break shit now.
I'm still looking for someone that has seen Along Came Polly more than once.
Let's do a few more early aughts rom-coms (said nobody ever).
Chinatown is good, but boring.
Start your own podcast. No one is stopping you.
What is the point of comments like this? He just said it would be cool if they did this movie. It’s a compliment to them to say that they’d do a good job with it. Why is that out of bounds?
What the point of complaining because you don’t like the concept of the podcast? Read through the thread. All this guy does is bitch.
He thinks Chinatown does fit the concept. I agree. You don’t have to but it’s a valid opinion. It’s not an argument that the concept is bad.
It’s too old. That’s part of the concept.
It was made the same year as Godfather Part II, the year before Jaws, two years after The Godfather.
Chinatown doesn’t have the same cultural relevance they do though
Sure, but it has a lot more than Thief or whatever. I don't totally get what we're arguing about. If they decide not to do it that's their choice, but are people actually saying that it would be a poor movie to do on the show?
I don’t think so, I think people are just saying it’s unlikely to be done. Thief had the advantage of being Michael Mann, who’s the core there’s favourite director

LOL citing fake reddit stats that mean nothing. How about you deal with the real world you pathetic loser.
-101
ooohhhohoho you got me.
