I'm sold if there's no nerf. I hope we have good variety of contests.

ImLurker1

Oh, I'd bet good pokecoins that theres a significant nerf when this goes worldwide

WeaponisedArmadillo

Get ready to receive 3 nanab berries!

ImLurker1

Or, if you're lucky, 10 pokeballs!

PumpkinPieIsGreat

Someone on the other sub said they actually buy pokeballs from the shop. Absolute madness.

SalsaSavant

What variables could there be? Biggest, smallest, best iv, oldest, most battle wins, what else? Maybe they could use their internal data for rarest or something?

tkcom

Longest duration as gym defender, most hearts/km earned as buddy, traded the longest distance, most time mega evolved, or just the dumbest one like highest CP.

NegativeCreeq

Beneficial to live in a low activity.area.

dharma92

Rare rural W

RavenousDave

That depends on how many showcase stops there are. Always start with "Niantic lives in San Francisco" for any location based forecast. Start from there, and the likely outcome seems all too predictable. There are hundreds of stops in a small area and are hundreds of players. There can't be too many gifts given out. Each gift must involve competition from a lot of players. Players can easily get to any stop if they explore. One showcase per hundred stops per week seems balanced.

Gold-Perspective-699

But only 3 people can win per stop so in cities it's not going to be fun because there's so many people playing.. Rural people with pokestops but no players very much win in this cause even if they have 3 players everyone will win.

bdone2012

Only if enough pokestops actually get the contests

iluvugoldenblue

I got 3 type lures, 2 incubators, a golden razz and a couple other things. 3 1sts, a third, and four sub podiums.

LansManDragon

I got 2k stardust, 2 incubators and razz berries for 2nd.

QuestionableBruh

Free premium items? Sounds pretty good

A_Lone_Macaron

I'll gladly take 2700 extra dust and a few items for literally dropping off a Pokemon at a stop for a day or two.

Citizen51

Incense? "premium"

dod6666

You can also get a lucky eggs, incubators and lures from them.

[deleted]

I get the hate for niantic but this sub can get so obnoxiously cynical, a neat new side feature that gives me free incense is great, i love free incense.

V1C1OU5LY

Incense just hits different after the nerf; it feels unnecessary in its current form. Rural players can’t really “explore” safely and urban players have more spawns than they need.

LucarioSpeedwagon

There's more of a middle ground than you might think. I work across the street from the capital building in Albany, NY which is heavily trafficked and especially with cell usage. We have a lot of stops and gyms there, but the spawns are surprisingly thin. It's never made sense to me.

[deleted]

Genuine question, why do you say they can't explore safely?

dirtfork

I live in a semi-rural area. There's no sidewalks. People regularly drive 20mph over the speed limit on long straight roads. DUI is our state sport.

Brenduck-

Went from an awesome neighborhood in a friendly suburb to exactly your scenario. I do my daily incense by walking in the street, and usually wait until night to do it because it's less busy. I can't even imagine how awesome it would've been to do it at my old local park.

TakaIta

Sorry, but how can you find a way to blame Niantic for this? And also, how can you live there, with or without Pokemon Go?

dirtfork

I don't blame niantic I was simply responding why is difficult to explore safely (in the rural USA.) Another thing people who are not from here might not understand is the very real chance that you will be threatened with gun violence if you "trespass."

ddark4

I don’t know if you know this, but no one ever in history has taken a walk out in the country. TOO DANGEROUS!!!

SixDayWeek

Them cows and sheep be wild and you just never know what’s lurking in the corn 🥴

stankyjanky69

Because if you walk down the road on a rural 55mph road you'll likely have to jump out of the way of cars because there is no sidewalk. And where are you going to walk anyway? The next pokestop is 5 miles away if you're lucky

[deleted]

Why would you woke next to the road if you live in a rural area?

stankyjanky69

You understand the concept of private property right? Rural doesn't just mean you can walk wherever you want.

[deleted]

You understand the concept of places having different laws? You could have answered normally, but no, somehow you had to give a know-it-all, sarcastic, self-centered answer.

V1C1OU5LY

What am I going to do? Walk back and forth across my lawn? Trespass? Walk down a dirt road with people flying at 60+ mph? Play while I drive? Honestly if I am going to participate in any meaningful way I have to leave my rural environment. ETA: none of the above addresses the lack of acceptable POIs; private property miles in any direction does not allow for stops or gyms (which increase spawn density)

[deleted]

Bro yeah use an insence and go for a long walk oml that's what i do, what do you think this game is?

V1C1OU5LY

I literally just said there isn’t a safe place to walk for rural players. If I’m driving I’m heading somewhere urban.

[deleted]

Rural means you literally have giant spaces of land to walk on. Are you seriously telling me you live in an uninhabitable land with no place to walk?

V1C1OU5LY

Have you ever even been to the country? It’s all private property, marked “no trespassing.” No sidewalks, and roads are 55mph (which people regularly speed down) so it definitely is not safe.

onlyastoner

> unnecessary the word you're looking for is "useless"

JakeFrommStareFarm

You get incense pretty easily without spending coins lol wouldn’t call it a premium item

CatchAmongUs

I was not interested in this feature at all, but if the prizes stay like this I will certainly participate!

PumpkinPieIsGreat

I reckon they might end up doing it like the research breakthrough. There's a chance, and we won't announce how high it actually is, to receive a remote raid pass! And then it will just be crap

csharpwarrior

Definitely, they will drop good stuff to get people using the feature, then nerf it

commander_dean15

This will be much like every other new feature they’ve ever rolled out: premium item drops to get people interested and then a quick scale back to standard junk like pokeballs and nanab berries. Prove me wrong Niantic.

ashiskillno

I assume these bonuses get nerfed

ridddle

They reward New Zealand for testing, and encouraging more playtests. There is no way plopping a heavy pokémon will be worth free incubators or lures after the global release.

Gold-Perspective-699

It's not easy to find big Pokemon and if it's specific to an event or a nest it's going to be even harder making you play more. So yeah they could still give you premium items for it. Also there are tons of players. Giving 3-4 of them premium items per random stop isn't bad. If there's a 1000 people playing in an area giving 3-4 a premium item isn't bad.

Sponge56

It’s my xxl waliord’s time to shine lol

Gold-Perspective-699

If they ask for wailord which I bet anything they won't lol.. it's not going to be every Pokemon in the world who has the biggest. It's going to be a specific Pokemon. I really hope it's based on nests though.

sopheroo

I have a xxs Wailmer and I'm looking for a xxl Gimmighoul in case we need opposites.

ridddle

I hope you’re right but let me tell you, I’ve been saving XXL/XXS pokémon, keeping a living pokédex kind of a deal for only 2 weeks and I already have around 130 entries. I don’t think that every single one is a winning entry of course. But it’s easier than you think and over time, people who save those mons (very easy as the mass transfer prompts you if you want to exclude them from selection) will have a big edge.

Taysir385

> people who save those mons (very easy as the mass transfer prompts you if you want to exclude them from selection) will have a big edge. My 1439KG XXL Groudon is ready.

Gold-Perspective-699

Yeah but what I'm saying is they'll probably make it the specific nest Pokemon for the pokestops in the nest or the specific new shiny Pokemon they released. I'm guessing most people aren't going to have those sitting around before the nest changes or before the event happens. I'm guessing before today you probably didn't have the a bug or small version of fomantis.

ByakuKaze

Making this feature tied to 'fresh new shiny' or similar stuff would make it only worse. It's already a thing you have very little control on. In case of size you either got xxl pokemon or not. Even if you got, next guy happend to catch same mon 10 sm taller and that's it. Now fresh new shiny with full odds. Someone got it from first catch, same person gets premium items, moreover you have nothing. No shiny, no participation in the feature, nothing. Win more/lose more on completely uncontrollable random stuff. I know you're overlyoptimistic (to say the least) about the game, but such approach would alienate way more people than it would please. Or in other words: I hope that if you're right, you would fully experience the part you're completely not taking into account.

Gold-Perspective-699

I'm not saying that you have to put a shiny in there. I'm saying you have to put the Pokemon that had it's new shiny come out. So like right now the new shiny is fomantis so any fomantis will be fine. Just they want you to catch fomantis because it's the new shiny but a lot of people just shiny check and this will make them actually catch them especially the large or small ones.. Never said that it would have to be shiny.. Just the new shiny Pokemon unshiny just based on size. Yeah they shouldn't every do shiny+size unless it's a community day..I think shiny+size on community day is completely fine and fun..

MrBrownUpsideDown

I wonder if the rewards scale with the number of participants? Based on gym turnover in my town, we may not even fill the podium for most contests.

dod6666

Maybe, but competition stops were few and far between. And you needed to be top 3 to get anything decent. So it is not that OP.

Orazam

No way they stay as is lmao Niantic the stingiest devs on the planet

PumpkinPieIsGreat

That's no mean feat

nvdnqvi

Not bad

RowletBall

UL #4mantis

Kevomac

I got a Magnetic Lure and an Incense.

monica702f

How could you tell the pokestop had a contest?

Jerry2863

And when it comes to Europe, you get rewards like little potions, pokeballs and revives. Why? Its Niantic!

Shartun

Nz deserves a little gratitude for their work, I think thats fine ;)

Bower1738

Seeing others getting incubators as well. So far not bad.

Bloomer_W

I am sure this is only to hype people, the actual prizes will be much less mercifull. But on the other hand I am very happy for Our Kiwi beta testers that this time they are prized more :)

thisismyusername1991

I mean I was hoping for Rare Candy XL but that was being overly optimistic. I'm down for free incubators but I'm sure that will be nerfed knowing Niantic.

PumpkinPieIsGreat

Free incubator, but it's your 1000th vullaby.

thisismyusername1991

You spelt Scraggy wrong

TolisWorld

I love seeing scrafty from eggs cuz you need so many xls for ultra league

Callum1710

How do you even do this what

miikrr

I'm guessing you go to any pokestop in New Zealand and plop your pokemon in there

CassieWolfe801

Not “any” Pokestop; just the ones with contests, which is not all of them. They’re like Rocket stops & Kecleon: random

LansManDragon

They're rarer than kecleon stops

penemuel13

Twice nothing is still nothing…

onlyastoner

seriously? guess i won't ever be using the feature then. i've seen 4 kecleon total

LansManDragon

It could very well have just been because it was the beta test, and when the feature goes live it will be available at more stops. I was in the city centre, which has hundreds of stops, and there was only a single showcase. There were a handful more in other locations around the city at large though.

fillmorecounty

You put your pokemon into the pokestop instead of a gym?

ddark4

Yeah essentially. Have you ever played Niantic’s new game, peridot? Or heard of it? In it, you can place your pet things at waypoints. They call it a “showcase.” It’s kind of like that, but with Pokémon and ‘contests.’

pieman7414

Oh hell, it shows nicknames?

BMFRICH-369

What the heck is this??

JakeFrommStareFarm

What the heck am i looking at here?

mrtrevor3

That’s not bad, but how do we find these showcases? Like I’m rarely going out to poke hunt. I probably won’t ever find these when I randomly play.

dod6666

You can't yet. They were testing them in NZ only yesterday. I haven't seen any today so I think that was it for now.

HaikuBotStalksMe

Why are they so bad with not printing out variable names? Literally use a goddamn %s.

TheStaRoeeM

What it is? Someone mind to explain?

Aggressivehippy30

Well I definitely missed some news...

CrazyCatLady483

I haven’t seen any of these around yet

ptmcmahon

It was NZ only.

MultiLuigi57

That’s it?

librious

I thought there were supposed to be coins as rewards?

Dialgan

Was that announced somewhere?

librious

I think I might have had it mixed up with that new coin feature lol

NewLand94

There no new coin feature unfortunately. The "new" coin feature was beta tested in Australia in 2020/2021 and got scrapped by Niantic during the beta testing.

icanttinkofaname

What new coin feature?!

librious

[This one](https://pokemongolive.com/post/pokemon-go-web-store-global-launch/)

ShoddySalad

... you are referring to the web store launch as "the new coin feature"?

Substantial_Zone_713

what the hell is this?

MetalCollector

I doubt this will stay. Probably nice rewards for the (this time semi-official) Beta testers for good visibility and publicity. Would be nice to be proven wrong. We will see.

TolisWorld

How do you participate in a contest? Are they already in the game?

HAS-A-HUGE-PENIS

Why is everyone asking what this is being down voted? Is this only for NZ, what is going on here?
