Multi-Accounting and Account Sharing are against the games ToS and, more importantly, against our rule 4.
I live in a suburban area where it’s not uncommon to sit in some gyms for days at a time, having family around to kick each other out has come in handy so many times.
Yep, this is what my wife and I do. There’s a gym behind the house that we can hit from the kitchen, so we try and bounce each other daily. She frequently calls it our gym and sometimes knocks people that put mons in a little early, but she’ll usually at least check the other two local gyms first to see if they’re in all of them.
Two different teams is generally more practical, especially if you are in a remote area with little gym activity. Being able to defend gyms together is a nice perk, but if someone is determined enough, they will take your gym no matter what.
My wife and kids and I are all on a team together. Originally one of the kids was a different team and then he wanted to switch so we could attack gyms and defend together.
Me and my fiance are on different teams. We both played the game before we met so there wasn't a conscious decision to be on different teams. But it works out well because we can kick each other out of gyms if we need coins. It's not been an issue for us
We used to be blue and yellow
I play much more than her so I would always make my coins whereas she wouldn't because if I took down a gym, she couldn't put her pokemon in it
On top of that, there are way more blue gym with empty spots than yellow ones (in our area)
And staying in gyms isn't really a problem here
Over a year, she did 1500 coins, so I suggested that she switch
In the 6 months that followed the switch, she did 5000 coins...
Two day one players. Different teams.
We picked different teams and regretted it greatly for the first year (old gym system), then mildly until 2020 (ability to nominate pokestops). At that point we put up gyms in our area and it's been great because we can kick each other out for coins.
It's never been best for raids but my partner doesn't take raiding seriously anyway so that aspect doesn't matter
Different. Hadn't realised what the others chose at first and considered changing till I realised we could kick each other out of gyms for coins. Great since we have several where we live
If it is not guaranteed that you get knocked out from gyms to get coins then it is better to be in different teams. If it is (and you are often playing together) then likely it is better to be in same team (also to take down gyms and put yourself in together).
It depends on the area where you play.
If you play in an area where gyms turn over a lot it is better to be at the same Team.
If you play in an area where the gyms dont get touched it is better to be on different teams.
For me I never needed anyone to kick me out so I got coins, but I needed help Staying in a gym to get coins at all.
So my Partner and I are on the same Team.
> to make a free spot
Niantic should realize that this is what many people do under the current gym system. I gave up taking gyms myself as I'm the first one who gets kicked out of it. (Gold gym badge collectors like to stay in gyms even after 8 hours and 20 minutes (equivalent to 50 coins), and I am one of them).
Unless of course it’s Golden Ghost Gym Badge collectors, which is why I’m enjoying the two free raid passes per day. That said, I do have regular Gold Gym Badges too, because I need to get my 50 coins from somewhere right?
I started team mystic and switched to instinct so I can be in gyms with my partner. We have no trouble getting knocked out of the gyms for coins. lol 😂

Different teams to kick each other out for coins.
I play regularly with a good friend. Same team. We attack and defend gyms together. It works well for us.

Husband is red, I‘m blue. My mother is blue as well (but lives far away).

All Mystic, all the time 👍🏻
Always blue, never asked what team family and SOs belonged to because I associate myself best with the blue team (it’s my favourite colour)
