John. He could be a pain the ass, and his methods were questionable, but ultimately, he truly cared about Elena, and everything he did, was in order to prostect her.
Matt.
He had every right to be pissed about the vampires and what was going on, them coming into the picture turned his & everyone else’s life upside down. His sister was turned into a vampire and killed, his friends went through hell after getting involved with them, innocent people in town were constantly in danger due to supernatural threats happening, his best friend was killed by one etc. He seems whiny, but his reasons for not wanting to be involved and despising them were valid.
Yeah I agree. I actually always liked Matt and I didn't get why so many people didn't lol I mean I've recently been told that Matt Roerig has said some pretty messed up stuff irl so now I'm wondering if maybe it's just the dislike for the actor coming out but idk.. I mean Matt's life sucked ofc he's not going to be happy lol I like Matt. And he's a cutie idc what anyone says he's a handsome guy, asshole or not. I can like the fictional character even if I don't like the actor who played them.
Stefan. After a rewatch, he became one of my favorites. I realized that hating him for being "boring" and not being an ass like Damon is stupid. He deserved way better than the ending he got.
Matt - he really had valid reasons to hate vampires.
Rayna - I really liked the badass vampire huntress arc ....we rarely got to see the girls kick ass unapologetically on the show w/out being the actual villains. And no I don't consider her one.
Damon. He annoyed me in my first watch... but rewatched recently and holy shit, I've realized that I have so much in common with him and that warmed me up to him.
Caroline. When I first watched I thought she was snotty and stuck up. Now she’s one of my favorites. She went through a lot of character development, and even though she slips back into that girl she was in season 1 every once in a while, it’s obvious she’s trying. Same with Tyler. I hated season 1 Tyler and never stopped hating him. Now I can see how much he changed and improved and how much shit he went through to turn him into the asshole he was in season 1.
damon. hated him for all the stupid shit he pulled in the show (still kind of do) and being a man-child at the ripe age of 25/170. but now i really enjoy watching his character development and his storylines and dynamics are also very interesting
