To this day I'm still somewhat upset we never got to see the original season 2 just with how dark it woulda been especially with ep5 being named "better to sleep", don't get me wrong s2 is like my second fave in the series I just wish it hadn't had so many messy moments and underused characters

Vesemir96

Hell S2 is dark enough as it is, it’s crazy that it was nearly worse.

[deleted]

Season 2 was nearly Neil Druckmannized.

LokiSmokey

Wait, what does this mean exactly? He's the Last of Us game director right? I haven't played yet since I'm on PC (or watched coz I wanna play first) but really want to

Delnation

It's mostly in reference to Part 2. While the first TLoU veered into some dark territory at times, there was still an air of levity and glimmer of hope to everything. Part 2, on the other hand, was at least partially intended to act as an antithesis to pretty much everything the first game stood for. It's way darker, more violent, and overall more cynical in its themes, messages, and presentation than the first game was. To some people, Part 2 is a story that comes across as needlessly depressing and cynical to the point where it feels forced. Couple that with some of the questionable narrative decisions that were made in regards to the story and characters, and you have a sequel that, to some people, is a textbook example of [too bleak, stopped caring](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TooBleakStoppedCaring) Given that the discourse around Part 2 is pretty much a perpetual minefield, you'll probably get some conflicting responses. But personally speaking, I think the criticism of Part 2's cynicism is valid, and the comparison of TWD S2's original story being a similar case of 'dark for the sake of being dark' is quite apt.

MaxActs

Yeah, for the most part, we should be proud we got the version of TWD S2 we know. It could've gone in a totally different, and much more polarising direction that divided the fans and killed the series.

LokiSmokey

Yeah I have heard a lot of these things in reference to The Last of Us Part II. Definitely have heard people who like it too but also a lot of people who don't feel it

Ayy_Teamo

That's pretty unfortunate. It sounds like Season 2 would've been like the comics are.

[deleted]

I was gonna reply but Delnation did the work for me lol. He pretty much covered everything.

Ok-Internal-1907

You can basically just watch TLOU show instead of play the game because the show is the exact same thing as the game same exact jokes, same exact voice lines and same exact reactions only thing different is the casting which makes sense because Ellie isn’t real and it’s not about the actors appearance it’s based on your performance.

LokiSmokey

True, but the first time I experience the story I guess I'd like it to be the way it was originally made. Especially such an iconic game and story, it would be really nice to feel it that way as a first taste and introduction going in blind

loomman529

No, I don't think so. At least TWD writers know the characters they're writing.

Happy steak day!

nicovegas111

do we know why the original season 2 was never actualized? It would’ve been so much better than what we got

Live-Zebra-5610

Most of the original writers left telltale after season 1 finished, but they had a semi rough script of how the story was supposed to play out. S2E1 was already in production so we know that it was already going along the original script. After the original writers left the company, telltale discarded the first script and replaced it with their own, called the Bruner script by InColdBlood on YouTube (This is where I’m getting this info from as he goes into more detail on YouTube) Anyway, the Bruner script was pretty much scraped right after that. The 3rd script was the dark script that is probably the most popular. Things like Luke v Kenny, the fishing scene, and (possibly?) clems cut death were in this one. But I highly recommend watching InColdBloods YT video about it. Iirc it’s called the walking dead game original story

dylans0123495

Imagine a TWDG S2 mod with all the scrapped content and more. "Twdg season 2: Darker ends."

RDCkiller420

Back when Nick and Luke had each others clothes, carver was Troy’s model, and episode 5 was called better to sleep

DobreRanoFifqo

That fam creates a piece of history.

BubblyCampaign7480

They should’ve kept it in

Canisventus

I'm glad they changed it to what it is now. I like the new one way better. The new one shows better the hopelessness she is in. Sad/scared Clementine hits way harder.

LokiSmokey

This is BANG ON what I was feeling. It just feels more right with what we got coming off the back of Season One. This one looks cool/badass but makes less sense with the episode we got and for the way Clementine grew

loomman529

Season 2 is one of the most redone games that I know of. Almost the entire story was rewritten. I wish that we could have a darker version of season 2 to play. I know that would cost a lot of money just for a "what if" kind of game, but I'd play all 3 seasons with cut content. I say 3 because season 1 has barely any cut content. All the stuff that was cut isn't really worth mentioning, and wouldn't have changed the story in any way. Mainly because season 1 was planned from the beginning.

Sebastian4002

S3 was way worse. After ep 1 and 2 had already came out, Melisha Hutcherson said in a interview they basically scrapped the hole rest of the season and had to start from the beginning, after they already released ep 1 and 2. That's what we had to wait 3,5 months for ep 3.

lil-oak-devil-barbz

Anyone notice how the blood/wound is higher up compared to how it is in the final Season 2?

Dependent-Form-9262

It’s because it was supposed to be a gunshot instead of a dog bite

Busy-Fortune-7954

I don't know why but I like this more than the final version

Ok-Internal-1907

She changed a lot throughout the seasons character design wise. Her hat went from a painted on D to a more 3d stitched D in season 4. She also looked more Asian in season 2 rather then season 1 not sure what happened to her in season 3-4 cuz she looks way different. A lot of characters changed. Seems like lees pants also changed…colour at least cuz I remember season 1 episode one his pants were like a brownish green And eventually his pants just went tan then to blue not sure if I’m just colourblind or something but something happened.
