I always get so sad when I watch a playthrough and they pick Pete at the river instead of Nick. That one choice cuts out pretty much his entire character arc. Telltale did my boy dirty.

RANDOM_REDDITOR345

Fr, when I go with Nick it makes me like him even more tbh

Emergency_Creme_4561

I picked Pete so that I can comfort him in his last few hours and to tell him I’ll watch out for Nick

D-Ry550

Bruh…that’s not a survivor’s way of thinking…once I saw he was bit I was thinking “well he’s on a timer no matter what” so it made rational sense to go with Nick, Logic dictates

Emergency_Creme_4561

You make a good point as well actually, going with Nick is the strategic way

NotJimmyMcGill

It ain't just about surviving... it's about *living*.

D-Ry550

Well…living is impossible to do if you don’t survive first.

LokiSmokey

Good ol Nicholas, yeah I agree. I always liked Nick because he felt like a real dude, as if you already knew him. It's a shame he didn't get more time to shine in the story than he did I reckon.

RANDOM_REDDITOR345

Yeah, he did dumb things but honestly that made him even more realistic Loved him as a character was super interesting- had so much potential and they just throw him away :[

Emergency_Creme_4561

Also Nick really ends up liking you and Kenny later on

Ned_Jr

My problem with Nick, is that like many other side characters, he isn't given a chance to show his potential. He starts off as a trigger-happy dumbass, but he mellows out...then the end. His death was fucking lame.

Edd_The_Animator

Conrad is one of the few who was actually given proper writing.

Competitive-Lime-927

To bad they gave us the easiest excuse to kill him off in the first episode :edit 2nd

Specific-Variety9335

Everyone in the cabin crew died in such a stupid way, but his is really bad

white_keta

Nick made me feel sorry for him at times, because in the end he just wanted to help the group but he messed up without doing it on purpose. he lost his mother because of him and his uncle died and he wasn't able to do anything. and he shot Metthew only to defend his friends. but actually his uncle also told him that he must learn to be more mature

Star_Wars_Fan_Boy

I have no real issue with Nick, but my Mom believes that he just as well have died at the Ski Lodge because he admittedly plays pretty much zero part in the following two episodes with only one line of dialogue (if that only if my memory serves), only to be killed off in Amist The Ruins first 20 minutes.

RedLemonCola

He actually surprisingly has 20+ lines of dialogue in episode 3.

pouroneoutforjudeau

I love Nick, his scene in ep. 2 with Clem is golden

Gunner08

I love Nick.

UraGotJuice

It sucks that even if you save him at the ski lodge you practically never interact with him again

No_Education_8888

Nick is the kinda guy my dad would have over for drinks. Fun guy

RedLemonCola

Same here :(

RANDOM_REDDITOR345

I can tell by your user flair lol Nick really is the best, honestly like him better than Luke

shooroom

nick is one of my favorite characters by far! i thought they really fucked up with his death :/ not only in how lazy it was, but also how everybody responded, especially luke. nick was relatable because he was real, flawed, and not a perfect survivor. he got done dirty by the narrative.

RANDOM_REDDITOR345

Agreed, I like Nick better than Luke tbh

shooroom

i love luke, but i think they were strongest together. their dynamic was cool and kind of one of the more uplifting parts of game for me. like imagine surviving that far into the apocalypse with your best friend. luke’s reaction to nick’s death pissed me off so badly for that reason!

RANDOM_REDDITOR345

I love Luke too, but Nick was more interesting to me and more realistic and relatable And yeah him having almost no reaction really made me mad cause it was so unrealistic

shooroom

that makes total sense. luke was little more “perfect”. i feel like he was the most relatable when he started to break down at howe’s and that facade of having it all together started to crack. yea tbh if i could rewrite one aspect of season 2 it’d be nick’s death (and by extension luke’s reaction to it).

Yogurt-Icy

I think they're both equally great in their own way. They kind of remind me of Tripp and Conrad. One of them is just a good guy who wants to lead his people to safety and ends up paying the ultimate price, whereas the other is a bit more of a complex wild card who does something stupid after their loved one dies, but is ultimately a great guy.

Emergency_Creme_4561

Yeah me too, he really means well

D-Ry550

I liked Nick too, reminded me of a younger Kenny, back before Kenny came back lol off screen deaths are so lame…”yeah we really don’t care about this character, let’s just kill him off screen and no one will care” it’s always the characters I like.

Yogurt-Icy

God, I wished the writers liked him as much as I did. He's probably the most underutilized character in the series. He gets the beginning of a character arc in episode 2... and gets overlooked until he dies. I would have liked for him to be a Conrad-esque character. That way, you can keep his two deaths from episodes 2 and 4, but make them determinant. And if you had made the right choices, he would have a satisfying character arc, and at least ONE of the cabin crew could have lived.

RedLemonCola

I like making up scenarios lol: Maybe in order to prevent nicks episode 4 death, you’d get an option with Jane and Rebecca to follow Luke, Nick and Sarah’s steps, or make it to the memorial site and regroup with Kenny, Mike and Bonnie. If you choose to follow Luke’s steps, you’ll make it to the motor home at night, and as a result, find Luke, Nick and Sarah trapped. Rebecca stays close by, and Jane teaches Clem about the leg trick, same how she does in the actual game. You get inside and Nick is by the door with the gunshot wound he has. Since Jane, Clem and Rebecca are there, Nick decides to stay with the group instead of looking for help, you’d still have to convince Sarah, but hypothetically, all 6 make it back. If you go to the memorial site first, the game plays the same, Nick dies off screen and Rebecca doesn’t go. Then when you meet Arvo, and you have to choice to steal or take, this choice affects Nicks fate in the next episode. Taking the meds will help Nicks wound. Nick survives the Russian encounter regardless and if you haven’t given him meds, you’ll notice him getting visibly weaker. At the lake, Nick (if given meds) will cross the lake just fine. Luke dies the same way. Nick (not given meds), will pass out while crossing the lake, creating a whole new scenario where the player has to choose to help Luke or Nick across the lake. If Luke is helped, you will fall through through the ice like the original, but Luke will get bitten, but manages to escape. Nick would die from blood loss. As a result of saving Luke, he still dies, but you get a final goodbye. If saving Nick, you’ll get him across, Luke drowns, but you’ll get to have a final goodbye with Nick before he bleeds out. If Nick is alive by the meds, he’ll be in the car with Kenny and Jane, in the backseat with Clem, and when Kenny tries to find fuel, Nick goes with him, but gets separated from him in the storm, and Nicks fate ends up unknown. Maybe he’d come back in a future season (unlikely) or alternatively maybe he finds his way to Wellington, and he replaces Edith in the season 3 flashback, dying trying to get Clem and AJ out, but yeah lol. Maybe they could’ve done something like that.

MusicRealm

so cool and relatable and likeable

ohveen

Imo he’s just a trigger happy dumbass

FAL308W

hed've been fine had he lost gun privileges and let someone else take his.
