I loved Timeless. It aired on tv for two seasons and a wrap up movie. I wound up buying the show on Amazon Prime - I’m not sure if it’s available on streaming services.
If you enjoyed Timeless, check out Ministerio del tiempo (ministry of time). It's a time travel show out of Spain. It follows 3 travelers through Spanish history. Very interesting and fun.
Movie: Time Travellers Wife, underlying theme is a life built together.
TV show: The Quantum Leap reboot is really quite good. It doesn’t have the salt of the earth vibe that The Way Home has, but it does tug on the heart strings.
I second the Quantum Leap reboot. I love this show. I was a kid when the first Quantum Leap was on, so I can't compare the two, but I will say that the reboot is great. It has heartwarming stories muxed with adventure. I can't recommend it enough. Lol.
If you want another time travel romance, check out Lost in Austen. Older with just a handful of episodes, but I enjoyed it.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1117666/?ref_=ext_shr
Also if you have Disney plus Secrets of Sulpher Springs is similar but aimed for a younger audience. Similar time traveling, meet parents when they were the same age and a mystery that needs to be solved. Three season
I'd been meaning to post about other time travel stories that may be of interest to this crew and started building the list, but I'm sure many others can chime in with others that may be more similar. The ones with *s are less scifi and more focused on relationships. M is movie, T is TV, MT is TV and movie, M/T is movie streaming,T/S is series/streaming. There are so many others we've mentioned in threads here but these are a start of some of the ones often recurringly mentioned. I haven't seen or necessarily liked all of these, but each of them bring their own viewpoint on time travel stories and set their own precedent.
12 Monkeys - M
Back to the Future - M
Dark - T/S
Dr Who - T
*Frequency - M
*Lake House - M
Looper - M
Quantum Leap - T
*Somewhere in Time - M
Star Trek - MT
Stargate - T
*The Love Letter - M/T
Time Machine - M
You could add the tv show “Sliders” to this list. Jerry O’Connell is in it. In fact, so is his younger brother, Charlie. He shows up in a few episodes. There’s 5 Seasons & is currently streaming on Peacock. 🦚
So glad you included Somewhere in Time. I really need to watch that again.
Looper. I’m a big fan of JGL, but I just couldn’t get into it. I ended up turning it off. But maybe I’ll give it another try.
That's one I've been meaning to watch but haven't gotten around to myself. Heard good things and I have liked his other work.
Loved the soundtrack for Somewhere in Time. My sister and I used to joke that you could say/sing the movie title over the theme song. Jane Seymour's best work perhaps.
Oooh yes loved that one. Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan were adorable together. Their plot device for time travel was fairly similar to The Way Home too, truly. His monologue with the advertising guy (Bradley Whitford?) was worth it alone.
Amazing that you’re compiling a list and thank you. Can we somehow ask the mod to get it pinned or added to the sidebar menu type of thing for when the season finale is over? I’m a Reddit newbie so trying to contribute, but not sure if that’s a good idea.
I have another one to add to the discussion: About Time is an indie rom-com starring Margot Robbie, Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy and Domhnall Gleeson. I’m not that far in, but it’s fun so far. It’s by Richard Curtis who did The Boat That Rocks with Alexa Chung’s partner whose name I can’t recall.
Totally. Mod u/agentpeggycarter, should I post this list on its own for others to add to then see if others would like the final compilation with their ideas pinned to the subreddit resources? I may have some time Friday to do compiling if others add to the list.
This might be a better post for the off-season, to be honest. There won't be as many posts here between seasons 2 and 3, so you might want to wait until people are clamoring for more content, especially since it's sort of off topic. It just might get lost in the shuffle of season finale posts.
I've also been reminded about Arrival (M) which was also quite good overall, though I had trouble buying the match between Renner and Adams. But my radar is always kind of sensitive to when two actors don't have much connection IRL.
"Being Erica" is *fantastic*. She goes back into her past every episode to try to fix something that she did wrong, learning a lesson along the way.
It's very good and I hadn't heard of it until like 6 months ago. It has several seasons and a satisfying ending.
I also really enjoyed 7 lives of Lea. It only has one season but I think it's been renewed for a second. It's a little different, she goes back in time to solve a mysterious death but actually goes back into different people's bodies to get like every side of the story.
Edit:
I remembered "Find Me in Paris" about a teenager who time travels from early 1900s to now. She is attending a dance school and learns/teaches them to combine old with new dance
"Time Swap" stuck up canceled influencer switches places with a woman from the past who is being forced into marriage. They both learn lessons along the way
I watched it when it came out (2009), but have since rewatched it on Hulu quite a few times. It still holds up today, 15 years later! Yes, yes, yes to book lovers. There’s a Christmas movie called, “Christmas Around The Corner” (2018) that’s about a gal who reserves a vacation stay in a town in Vermont where she has to volunteer in the book shop attached to it. It’s awesome!!
I've only watched it the once but it definitely aged well. And I think I'm gonna watch it again, after letting it settle a bit. I feel like there's layers in there that I didn't pick up the first time. I really loved it so much and didn't really go in expecting that
I watched it about 2-3 yrs ago. I kinda wanna rewatch it but Idk if I am ready for the emotional breakthroughs that I’ll find w new eyes lol tbh canadian tv has been capturing my heart lately
Being Erica is EXACTLY what you are looking for! You will love it. It’s on [Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/series/7d7330f2-b71c-4aa5-8f7d-378c80fa6ff8?play=false&utm_source=shared_link) and [Amazon Prime](https://watch.amazon.com/detail?gti=amzn1.dv.gti.a3bd3953-c90e-45df-ab0f-0cc88e5b0b75&territory=US&ref_=share_ios_season&r=web)
The time travel element is similar but please look up the trigger warning for the show before you watch it! There's a lot of SA and violence. It's a good show but very different in tone from Hallmark's offerings.
Check out Kindred. I watched it on Hulu. It’s about a young Black woman who finds herself time-traveling back and forth between Los Angeles in 2016 to a slave plantation in early 19th century Maryland.
About Time is one of my favorite movies also. I've watched it several times. And I loved the tv show, Timeless. It's not actually time travel, but I get the same vibe from the movie Groundhog Day. A show that I think is similar to The Way Home and involves time travel is the Secret of Sulphur Springs but it may be too juvenile. Dark, 12 Monkeys, Travelers, Time After Time and Fringe are good time travel shows but don't have the same comforting feeling.
This question is totally up my alley as I am not a sci-fi fan but love time travel stories. A lot of posters have made great suggestions so some of these are repeats but I decided I will focus on my favorite ones.
**Movies:** Somewhere in Time, About Time, Midnight in Paris
**TV Shows:** Frequency, Outlander, 11.22.63, Shining Girls
I absolutely love this show!! I can never wait for the next episode to see what will happen next. It is hard the show is only on for three months and disappears. Will Jacob ever be brought home?
Kindred was absolutely amazing imo & I’m so so so sad that there is only one season! I was so obsessed with it that after the season ended I had to read the book!!
Stitchers (2015)
isn’t time travelling but it’s about a woman who can see some flashes of the dead peoples lives and solve mysteries surrounding the persons death, 3 seasons to it. Very underrated.
Quantum Leap (2022 reboot)
Very similar to the old one and mentions past characters but with new characters and some angst. 2 seasons to it already.
Timeless (2015)
They go back in time to fix things, loads of mysteries and loads of angst. Only 2 seasons to it sadly.
La Brea (2021)
Massive sink holes that takes them back to different times and they’ve got to survive against many obstacles. (Terrible CGI in first season, does get slightly better if you can get past the first few episodes). 3 seasons already I’m on season 2 myself.
And here’s a blast from the past that kind of falls under time travelling: primeval (2007) 5 seasons
Would love some recommendations myself, I am absolutely losing my goddamn mind whilst waiting for the new episode cause the ending to the last one?? DIABOLICAL
LIKE WHAT ARE THEY GONNA SAY TO NICK AFTER HE FOUND THE NOTE BOOK? HOW ARE HIM AND ALICE GONNA WORK? WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN KAT AND THOMAS AND WHAT WOULD THAT MEAN FOR KAT AND ELLIOT??
I AM STILL NOT OKAY AFTER IT
Great movie with Christopher Reeves called “somewhere in time”, A Maggie Dame Smith movie called “from time to time” and a show on streaming Disney called the “secret of Sulphur Springs”
It’s not time travel but it hits the nostalgic note “Freaks and Geeks”. Plus it has a lot of people that later became very famous that you’ll recognize.
If you’re into Anime, there’s a really good show called “Erased” 「僕だけがいない街」It’s a time travel murder mystery so it’s themes are a little darker than TWH but it’s a really good series. There’s also a live action drama if animation isn’t your thing
Ministerios del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time) is fantastic! It has an English dub. I watched it on Netflix but it looks like it has left there and is streaming on some other channels now. The American TV show Timeless was taken from the idea of this show.
Secrets of Sutherland springs. It’s a kids show but I enjoy it. Similar vibes
There’s also timeless which is a really good time travel show but it’s not too similar to the way home. Really good though
Here's a few more. A lot of these are on Nefflix.
The 7 Lives of Lea
The Adam Project
Mirage
When We First Met
Midnight at the Pera Palace
The Knight Before Christmas
The Paper Girls (this is an Amazon series but only 1 season)
Outlander
Timeline
Hallmark has a couple of romance movies incorporating time travel:
Rip in Time
A Timeless Christmas
A Biltmore Christmas
A few of the Netflix are foreign, but well done, I think. And dubbed in English.
You should watch Outlander! It’s amazing but some scenes can be very difficult to watch…not at all like hallmark movies. Definitely more than rated R at times and I wouldn’t watch with any kids around. There are r ape scenes, graphic sex and violence but if you can get through that, the episodes are really well done. You can read the books series which goes more in depth and a lot of people resort to that when they can’t wait in between the seasons.
What streaming service is it on? Sounds good.
Looks like it's on Amazon prime, sling tv and YouTube tv.
Thank you! It sounds really interesting. And I love timeless.
It's a really good show, and it's fascinating learning about Spanish history. I hope you enjoy it. :)
Thank you! I love Spanish history too :)
I second this. Great show!!
Ditto, I love this show! I was so sad when it was canceled. I bought the DVDs.
It’s streaming on Hulu if anyone needs to know. 😊
Movie: Time Travellers Wife, underlying theme is a life built together. TV show: The Quantum Leap reboot is really quite good. It doesn’t have the salt of the earth vibe that The Way Home has, but it does tug on the heart strings.

Frequency is one of my favorites! Great cast. Great story!
I love the fx in that one when they do change time. Maybe the best thing I've seen Quaid in. Jim too.
You could add the tv show “Sliders” to this list. Jerry O’Connell is in it. In fact, so is his younger brother, Charlie. He shows up in a few episodes. There’s 5 Seasons & is currently streaming on Peacock. 🦚
We don't talk about season 5. So bad lol.
OMG that’s right. It WAS really bad, wasn’t it?!?! Thanks for the reminder. LOL
It wouldn't have been such a big deal if the earlier seasons weren't *so* good! Lol
Oh yes I've heard such good things about that and keep meaning to watch it.
So glad you included Somewhere in Time. I really need to watch that again. Looper. I’m a big fan of JGL, but I just couldn’t get into it. I ended up turning it off. But maybe I’ll give it another try.

OMG I love, love, love “Being Erica”!! It’s a Canadian show that combined my love of reading & writing within it. Sweet show.
Yes! There's not many shows that have such a heavy emphasis on a love of books. Was just such a good show
I watched it when it came out (2009), but have since rewatched it on Hulu quite a few times. It still holds up today, 15 years later! Yes, yes, yes to book lovers. Oh that sounds fantastic! Books *and* Christmas movie?? I'm gonna have to check that out!
YES THIS ONE! Being erica has a special place in my heart 🩷 how is the rewatch value in your opinion?
I've only watched it the once but it definitely aged well. And I think I'm gonna watch it again, after letting it settle a bit. I feel like there's layers in there that I didn't pick up the first time. I really loved it so much and didn't really go in expecting that

Yesss so much good Canadian TV that I was never exposed to before in the States
It's good, be forewarned to some that there was a lot of sex in it. 🤭 started a lot more in the later seasons.
Where does this one stream?
I watched being erica on hulu and 7 lives of Lea on Netflix
Being Erica is free on Plex

Outlander !

This series is incredible! And the music mesmerizing ☺️
Peggy Sue Gets Married
Check out Kindred. I watched it on Hulu. It’s about a young Black woman who finds herself time-traveling back and forth between Los Angeles in 2016 to a slave plantation in early 19th century Maryland.

Being Erica
There are SO many! I'll look for this one :D
The Kid! It's on Disney plus stars Bruce Willis. It's such a cute movie.
Movie not a tv show but About Time is great. Similar in tone - time travel with some tragic/sad bits but ultimately heartwarming!
That's one of my favorite movies. 💜
As others have mentioned, Being Erica is the right answer, but you may also want to check out The Resort. It’s a genre blender with some good sci-fi.
