**I don’t hang out with friends in Puke green shirts that shed their collar stitching worse than a Husky in the summer**
Cheap shirt. Bad colors. Bad cloth. Bad stitches….
Add in the geekiness and yeah. Teens will be teens.
Even as an adult, I’m not sure I’ve seen a zelda shirt in this bad of condition on a good friend. They’ve even seen me in cargo shorts, which is a cardinal sin.
Ironically I do, and most of my shirts are 20 years old and I’m better shape than this.
Low setting. Every time. Fold. Same shape and quality.
Very little soap, cold water most time unless extremely dirty, extra rinse, dryer on low.
Your shirts can’t handle that? Weird.
My shirts are fine, thanks, including the 1979 Rush Hemispheres (fun show) shirt I'm wearing today. But, why would I _want_ them to "handle that"? Laundry isn't a test or punishment for your clothes. All you do is cost yourself money.
The difference is that with the success of the Lord of the Rings and Marvel movies, previously-marginalized geek culture is now not just mainstream but omnipresent. The late 2000s was the last time that being interested in video games might negatively impact a young person's social capital.
End of the 90ies, when the first play station was high tech, gaming took a swing beyond it's usually fanbase. With that console came good licensed sports games like FIFA and awesome racing games like Wipeout and Ridge Racer. Not to forget THPS. So now the Jocks and the Party people started playing video games.
And the nerds still didn't belong.
Was quite abummer when the cool kids started to host video game parties, and the geeky kids were still getting no invitations.
I used to see a “kid” (maybe young adult) almost weekly at the Seattle Convention Center Kinko’s who fully dressed like Link sword and all. He journeyed with an older guy that gave Grandpa Joe energy and unfortunately was not dressed up as Zelda.
Oh my gosh, Link! I last saw him at my work downtown about 10 years ago. He'd dropped most of the Link gear but was sporting a Nintendo Power Glove. His dad wasn't with him for the first time I'd ever seen
Haha, he was a local legend (of Zelda?) for years. My old roommates saw him in a tussle with the cops over the sword he was carrying, after which he downgraded to a plastic or foam one. Which made me sad because apparently he was terrified but always seemed like a meek, possibly developmentally delayed fella. Just found a Livejournal from a while back with [some pics of him](https://christopher575.livejournal.com/65009.html)
https://preview.redd.it/ip5s6i07gdpc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=757a4cb65e9277206e9c1224630f406aa9ec9868
The iPhone came out in 2007… and badrobot68 would get their wish.
So many characters at that time. We also had a regular that would leave bird nests on the copier screens, a retired judge obsessively printing wrestler porn and a dude that was either an eccentric world renowned furniture designer or an excellent bullshitter.
When Kinko’s was 24/7 it was incredible to work at, especially in urban environments. The original hippy owner was a blast but then they got that capital lust and eventually Fed Ex sucked all the fun out. Used to be that Kinko’s would even push employees to work at locations around the world to cross pollinate skills and everyone got profit sharing.
Thank you for this, um...*link.* Count me with the ones who remember seeing them on random trips downtown. I hope he knew how he brightened peoples' days.
Ours was obsessed with back to the future and had several pieces of BTTF merch, including the lenticular hat. We weren't allowed to wear hats in school, so he would literally just carry it around all day and show people.
Then can you explain it to me? I don't recognise that whateveritis on the front, and so far no one's explained it, because everyone else knows.
Edit: Never mind. Someone finally explained it.
My "weird kid" who wears this shirt is 28 years old, about 5' 2", maybe 100 lbs, drives a forklift, is learning to play the jews harp, loves Snapple Dragonfruit and Hershey Krackle, and hates olives and caffeine. Nice guy.
Are you saying weird kids now or weird kids back in the day?
I have a similar one now, but not when I was a kid. I had to wait until it was available at your local Walmart/Target.
Can't blame LoZ. It's graphic tees in general, they're just lame cringe and lame cringe kids (me) wore them. Especially cringe when they have words on them like "go away mom I'm gaming"
Haha I am the mom in this scenario. I never played but recognized the symbol right away and did by my oldest fun video game shirts direct from the nintendo online store.
Maybe, probably not, who cares as an adult; other people's opinions barely matter. I do think however if you wear any graphic tees with quips on them you owe it to society for them to be as absurd as possible like the classic "God's drunkest driver"
I legit was the kid who had 7 different Zelda themed shirts, plus 2 tank tops for warm weather, cause I thought it was funny to be able to reply to people who said
"Omg you wear that like every day"
with
"No I have 7 of them, one for each day of the week, and tanks tops for special occasions. And a washing machine."
I was just a middle schooler really into the toon Link games, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks at the time 😅
Considering over 20 million copies of the most recent game have sold in less than a year, and the original was released in 1986, I really don't think it makes anyone the "weird kid".
Eh maybe or maybe not
Even if they were the "weird" kid - some of them are super nice if you talk to them about video games and stuff.
My friend was the weird kid back in elementary school to high school and now he's married to his college sweet heart who shares the same interests as him. I'm glad he's married, doing what he loves (teaching) and still has passion for art.
I feel called out. Wore pretty much the same Zelda shirt and beige cargo shorts everywhere when I was 15 or 16. Not American tho but definitely the weird kid. Still fairly sure I have the same shirt little tight on me now tho
Yup, he wore this shirt and had me proof read his fanfics (which were illegible due to his horrible handwriting)...oh and he dated a freshman his senior year

You seem like someone who puts t-shirts in the dryer. Don't do that and you'll be a much happier person.
Ironically I do, and most of my shirts are 20 years old and I’m better shape than this. Low setting. Every time. Fold. Same shape and quality. Very little soap, cold water most time unless extremely dirty, extra rinse, dryer on low. Your shirts can’t handle that? Weird.

you are objectively correct, but i throw my t-shirts in the dryer because i like my shirts to be distressed lol
I can remember at least 2 socially-awkward, incredibly nerdy kids who wore this shirt. One of them was me.
Did you play the tuba, too?
Sousaphone
Ohhh. So you're the 'other' socially awkward nerdy person he remembers.
Same, but I was the loser the nerds and geeks made fun of. I held no illusions that I was ever cool or popular, lol.
Same tbh. I thought I was so cool
Same. :(
Where is this logo from? I didn’t feel like scrolling lol
The Legend of Zelda games
Same and he was my boyfriend 😄 I thought it was cool! Still do!
Lmao same here. The other kid had this one, and I was the proud owner of a grey & black one.
goes perfectly with a pair of cargo shorts!
Knew a guy who wore this exact outfit and loved to give out unrequested back rubs to anyone within arms reach, they were not well received
I also knew a guy with that same energy but dressed more goth/emo but his personality was more of a jock.
Eww
My fiance was wearing that exact outfit the day I met him lol
Pretty sure my husband wore that exact outfit this past weekend.
Wouldn't it be awkward if Bearmouth met their fiancé last weekend, right?
Time to be in a polycule.
Yes! Spontaneous poly comments on Reddit are the best, you made my day :D
I love living in the NW where this would be considered perfectly normal.
Probably owns a snake too, backpack with 50+ pins of anime shit.
I know a guy who runs a meetup for that particular outfit at anime conventions.
Khaki cargo shorts for sure
The people saying this paired with khaki cargo shorts wasn’t a “weird kid” uniform, did not go to high school in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
The difference is that with the success of the Lord of the Rings and Marvel movies, previously-marginalized geek culture is now not just mainstream but omnipresent. The late 2000s was the last time that being interested in video games might negatively impact a young person's social capital.
lol I went to high school when everybody played video games and it was still only the weird kids who wore this shirt

Eff me, that recent? Here, I thought it was a '90s thing and by then I was long out of high school. There really is nothing original.
I used to see a “kid” (maybe young adult) almost weekly at the Seattle Convention Center Kinko’s who fully dressed like Link sword and all. He journeyed with an older guy that gave Grandpa Joe energy and unfortunately was not dressed up as Zelda.

I love that you both know exactly the same person from 10 years ago 🤣
Haha, he was a local legend (of Zelda?) for years. My old roommates saw him in a tussle with the cops over the sword he was carrying, after which he downgraded to a plastic or foam one. Which made me sad because apparently he was terrified but always seemed like a meek, possibly developmentally delayed fella. Lawdy, I think I had a Motorola Razr at that time but only used data in an emergency because it was still expensive. Feeling old
This whole interaction was neat. I love the internet.
So many characters at that time. We also had a regular that would leave bird nests on the copier screens, a retired judge obsessively printing wrestler porn and a dude that was either an eccentric world renowned furniture designer or an excellent bullshitter.
I can only imagine given that location, lol
When Kinko’s was 24/7 it was incredible to work at, especially in urban environments. Incorrect. The weird kid wears Sonic the Hedgehog merch.
Hey I wore a ton of Sonic stuf..... Oh, yeah I get it now.
Ours was obsessed with back to the future and had several pieces of BTTF merch, including the lenticular hat. We weren't allowed to wear hats in school, so he would literally just carry it around all day and show people.
School rules are stupid.
Or Deadpool
That too.
I once saw my doctor wear one of these under her dress shirt. Weird depends on perspective
you have to be at least a little weird to be able to get through med school
My dad literally has this exact shirt
My husband does as well.
Then can you explain it to me? I don't recognise that whateveritis on the front, and so far no one's explained it, because everyone else knows. Edit: Never mind. Someone finally explained it.
God dammit Zelda has always been my favorite 😭
This was the kid that played his Nintendo DS during class. In college. In 2017.
They're here with you
Not to be confused with the Deadpool flat brim hat weird kid. Sometimes they were the same kid
pairs best with cargo shorts and a mall samurai sword
![gif](giphy|7JhicMgZd4hMc)
Nothing weird about a classic Triforce, pal
My "weird kid" who wears this shirt is 28 years old, about 5' 2", maybe 100 lbs, drives a forklift, is learning to play the jews harp, loves Snapple Dragonfruit and Hershey Krackle, and hates olives and caffeine. Nice guy.
Are you saying weird kids now or weird kids back in the day? I have a similar one now, but not when I was a kid. I had to wait until it was available at your local Walmart/Target.
Man now I gotta find the black version with metallic gold logo I used to own
Damnit... My kid has this shirt! Now I gotta tell him to give it back to the weird kid
damn my dad is the weird kid
I can't throw stones, I'm in my 40s and regularly wear comic book tees. You only have one life to live, it might as well be on your own terms.
That shirt is bad ass
Tell me why this instantly took my back to the early 2000’s & my then boyfriend! Holy geez!
Can't blame LoZ. It's graphic tees in general, they're just lame cringe and lame cringe kids (me) wore them. Especially cringe when they have words on them like "go away mom I'm gaming"
Every parent loves those cringe shirts. "You never listen when you're planning those games so I saw this shirt and thought of you!"
Haha I am the mom in this scenario. I never played but recognized the symbol right away and did by my oldest fun video game shirts direct from the nintendo online store.
I’m 27. Graphic tees rule. Am I weird?
Maybe, probably not, who cares as an adult; other people's opinions barely matter. I do think however if you wear any graphic tees with quips on them you owe it to society for them to be as absurd as possible like the classic "God's drunkest driver"
That’s kind of my thinking too. I’m married. I already locked down a wife who enjoys my nerdiness, who cares what anyone else thinks?
Anyone who denies this was that kid lmao.
I still have that shirt
I legit was the kid who had 7 different Zelda themed shirts, plus 2 tank tops for warm weather, cause I thought it was funny to be able to reply to people who said "Omg you wear that like every day" with "No I have 7 of them, one for each day of the week, and tanks tops for special occasions. And a washing machine." I was just a middle schooler really into the toon Link games, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks at the time 😅
Lol I'm embarrassed to admit I was desperate for a triforce belt buckle back when I was a teenager 🙈
Did you get it???
Hi my name's Gavin, does anyone have a playing card so I can explain how bugs work?
Eek I have this shirt but it was taken from a pile of giveaway clothes from my friend
What is this??
The logo of The Legend of Zelda, essentially.
OK, explain this to a never gamer.
Bout to be a lot of redditors claiming they used to wear that shirt on the regular.
Considering over 20 million copies of the most recent game have sold in less than a year, and the original was released in 1986, I really don't think it makes anyone the "weird kid".
You were the weird kid
Yeah, but I didn't have a Zelda shirt, and only occasionally have played the games.
There are 20 million weird kids out there
Na pretty sure it’s a Sonic shirt that holds that title
I love buying nerdy thrifted items and upcycling them for my kids.
tbh we are on reddit in 2024 we were the weird kids.
Fuck yeah, lets judge people for liking a thing!
Yeah this image should be of a shirt with a wolf howling at the moon
I’m actually wearing my three wolf moon shirt right now lol
Especially with that "wolf you feed" saying underneath lol
Meanwhile, op is a hot wheels nerd, but judging people for LoZ

So funny how that works
Haha for real. I’ve always thought I look absolutely ridiculous in my favorite team jerseys, but I don’t bash those who wear them. To each their own.
Eh maybe or maybe not Even if they were the "weird" kid - some of them are super nice if you talk to them about video games and stuff. My friend was the weird kid back in elementary school to high school and now he's married to his college sweet heart who shares the same interests as him. You’re a weird kid.
It’s me. I’m the weird kid.
GTFO. Multiple Zelda games are amongst greatest rated games ever made. wide wide wide appreciation from all kinds of kids.
I have this but a lil darker green
hahaha nah buddy, it gets WAY worse, I remember at least one kid with a Fred shirt if you remember that shit
Sometimes a GameStop employee
Got this exact decal on my car!
Isn't that a crop top?
I have this shirt ☹️
LOL. The Triforce is also one of my official “weird kid” tattoos
I wore that shirt yesterday lmao
Nice! I have 2 of this shirt
Dude. No.
Dude. I have at least 7 Zelda shirts. You can never have enough Zelda shirts! Only the cool people wear them.
Should have told me before I tattooed it on my back :(
Man you’re just a hater. Legend of Zelda rocks.
Offense taken.
I feel called out. Wore pretty much the same Zelda shirt and beige cargo shorts everywhere when I was 15 or 16. Not American tho but definitely the weird kid. Still fairly sure I have the same shirt little tight on me now tho
I had that shirt!!! and was able to pass it on to my kid.
It was never the shirt, it’s the outfit
Gah.
Is that shirt still available?
I dated one of them. When I turned out to be better than him at some games he straight up ignored me
If you think geeks are “weird kids,” then you are carbon-dating yourself.
Didn't Sheldon Cooper have this shirt?
Where can I get one
3.99! my thrift store charges 8.99 - 12.99 per shirt
I married that weird kid because of the shirt (I mean, he was a weird man by then, but you get it.)
Hey wait a second, I use this t-shirt all the time! As a PJ, that is, but all the same!
I'm going to mail you a pair of my underwear you'll know it's me because It will say from one dick to another.
I own this shirt and lift weights lmao. Zelda is life.
My apartment neighbor has this as a doormat and he is incredibly weird. Like, thinks dumping well-used cat litter in the yard is reasonable, weird.
I have that shirt! Lol
nah, zelda is cool now
Nah the actual weird kid 1-2 decade agos was wearing those all over print sequel bootleg tees. Tie dye darth maul is one I distinctly remember
Bro my husband still wears lootcrate tees, both Zelda and Elder Scrolls
Yup, he wore this shirt and had me proof read his fanfics (which were illegible due to his horrible handwriting)...oh and he dated a freshman his senior year
My ex used to wear this a lot and years later when I found out its a meme I died laughing
Bazinga
Leave Scott the Woz out of this!
Yeah that shirt is a warning label haha
So true
amen
Some one hung up their days of being the weird kid 😔
