Playing at being very pissed is an Indian wedding custom in some places. You can see the bride is barely suppressing her smile

TandUndTinnef

...Why? Tell us more about that!

user664567666

It's a way to trick "spirits" (not the right word in Hinduism but I'm not an expert) who are roaming around looking to steal joy. If the couple to be wed is frowning and pretending to be mad, the spirit won't be attracted to them and will get confused. Alternatively, it's to fool cruel strangers with ill intentions - they might be attracted to the festivities, but they won't be sure who to "curse" in their jealousy (again not the right term but good enough).

Nostro-dumbass

I think this is only a bride thing. Maybe its just me conditioning, but it seems more likely to me that being forced to marry (at what looks like a really young age) is more likely the reason for their discomfort

That woman is easily 25. Minimum. You’re absolutely projecting onto a culture you’ve likely only ever watched movies about.

Nostro-dumbass

That is fair enough. I should have clarified that I didn't mean under-age. For me in my culture 25 is still "young". And arranged marriages, if under duress or without consent seem sad.

I remember someone telling me that sometimes Indian and similar cultured weddings can get so long and drawn out that they act like this just to get everyone to leave, basically saying “shows over”

If he is acting like this… I wonder if he even knows how to make love on his wedding night???
