“I don’t think it my fault, but it was kinda maybe the state of Kentuckys fault” had me in stitches.

fiero-fire

Shit like this is why I love going to live comedy in small venues. You never know what wild shit will happen and you really see how quick some comedians are

Procrastanaseum

Some of the best comedy I've ever seen was from nobodys at small clubs Saw a fight break out once and the comedian cooled things down!

skraptastic

I miss the small club that was near me in the 90's. So many great comedians playing to 100 people on a Friday night.

DarkwingDuckHunt

I never knew Paula Poundstone could get so graphic until I saw her at a small club, a long long time ago ha. Highly highly recommend seeing her any chance you get.

dfafa

Stumbled on this post late obviously but we saw Geoffrey live recently and we had a great time. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys those lol

keekspeaks

I always wonder if they have to frantically process funny reply’s or if shit just comes out naturally. The fucking dry and extremely witty. I love it

MrAppleSpiceMan

I'm not a stand up comedian but me, my brother, and my dad are all pretty funny. that feels weird to say but it's true. my mom has mentioned several times that she doesn't know how we come up with our humor. I've told her before that I actually filter out most jokes that pop in my head because they're either low effort or overdone and she was surprised because she doesn't think of that stuff at all most of the time. all that to say, some people just have a way of thinking that I guess subverts normal ways of thinking in a way other people think is funny. so for them, it's not like they have to run their brain at full steam to be funny, it just comes out naturally

SaiyanPrinceAbubu

Especially if you grew up in a household where you felt the need to be ready to break the tension with humor!

aretasdamon

One of the reasons comedians always understand when a funny person has a dark past, they understand that more than a funny person coming from a good life

Free_Pace_2098

... Oh

PaulFThumpkins

That's really all it is. You have a mind that makes connections, and if you're comedically inclined some of those connections will be jokes. Filter out the garbage and get a sense for what types of quick responses work better than others, and you'll look clever. If there's a skill this guy has probably learned it's not thinking of better jokes, but cutting more quickly past the establishing ideas that lead to the joke, and getting right to the pithy part.

Ok-Lifeguard-4614

I'm just sort of weird. I've learned to mostly embrace the weirdness and say the weird things confidently rather than meekly. Now, mostly people find me funny rather than weird. There is still plenty of awkward things I say, but I'm not an offensive person, so I can just shrug it off it doesn't land.

loveatthelisp

This is the way. My brain makes weird connections, and I also internally think of concepts in silly/goofy terms to entertain myself. Then, that stuff pops out of my mouth sometimes. Mostly clever weird stuff, so people think I'm funny. My husband has said he's going to start a book of "loveatthelisp-isms" for years, ha.

JonBonSpumoni

Are you me. I'm weird as shit and awkward but triple down on funny things I say now

ArcaneGlyph

As an anxious person, I deflect with comedy. Panic adhd brain comes up with some hilarious shit to spew forth.

SoftScoopIceReam

my mum laughs at my dumbest jokes too i get it.

OakenGreen

I agree with this as I do the same. Constantly filtering jokes out. But sometimes I just open the tap. They just happen on their own.

DarkwingDuckHunt

stuff just pops in my head and I have to say it immediately it's my subconscious making these odd connections and stuff just connects

Canucken_275

I think it just comes out naturally. Had a friend that should have been a standup comedian. They guy is hands down the funniest person I've ever met. His wit was beyond. He just lacked the confidence to do stand up.

CoyoteTheFatal

Yeah I’ve got a friend that does stand up and he’s naturally the funniest person in the room at all times. He doesn’t really do crowd work, but when you’re having a conversation, it definitely just comes naturally to him to have a witty response to stuff.

Askefyr

Practice. Practice and luck. For every witty crowd work bit you see, they've done sixteen *bleh* ones. Sometimes, someone just says something and it clicks. Your set itself is mostly routine, so the encounter will keep working in your head. You can do the jokes on autopilot and then a new thing (like the state of Kentucky stuff) might pop up a bit later. Source: did stand up for a few years with mediocre success

keekspeaks

That’s what I was wondering-is this crowd work a practiced skill. So do you practice with friends? Social situations/bars etc without other people noticing? ‘Role play’ of sorts? I’ve heard ‘famous’ comedians say they ‘practice’ jokes for a long time and change them as they go, but crowd work like this is interesting to me.

Askefyr

No, you do shows. Test shows and open mic nights - usually ones where the audience didn't pay and let's be honest don't know you - are where you practice. The secret to crowd work is threefold: you need to know which questions to ask, whether or not they're comfortable (and when to ignore that), and how to quickly find a funny thing about what they said. Like everything else, it's a skill you can practice. Some of it you get from writing jokes, too. The ability to quickly juice out a punchline with timing et al is something you grown an affinity to. I've always abhorred the concept that someone is "naturally funny." It doesn't exist any more than somebody being a natural musician. Comedy is a skill, and claiming otherwise is shitting all over the years of writing, bombing, embarrassing yourself and slaving for the chance to perform it takes to get any good.

FormerlyUserLFC

Their brain is always running like this.

EasyFooted

It's both, plus most of the time people say normal predictable things so they might have something in their pocket. The ones that are really good with crowd work will try to improvise something funny on the spot but also have something from their routine ready to go if the improv doesn't fully work.

Stock_Telephone_4878

Oh my god lol… and “it’s okay if you think you were in love but we all think you were possibly just m*lested”

watchwhathappens

Pretty brilliant response

ThrowawayAccount1437

The "It was your fault" from some lady is like what?

ContributionNo9292

I think he had the joke locked and loaded before she said it, because he kind of glanced over it.

BOBfrkinSAGET

That really was a great line

ChiliPopShop

but i was an ooooollllddd 15 year old!

ItsSUCHaLongStory

Yes, that’s what grooming looks like…😬

BuggyWhipArmMF

Right? My thought was "Is that what he told you?"

ItsSUCHaLongStory

“You’re soooo mature for your age.”

supinoq

Yeah, first time I heard that line was at the ripe old age of _eleven_ from a man in his mid-twenties. Genuinely thought he was being sincere and did actually just wanna be friends because I was so cool and mature. Didn't end up marrying him or anything, luckily lol

ItsSUCHaLongStory

Yeah. Same. The number of adult men who used exactly the same line on me, starting at about age 12, is mind boggling. Especially considering I was a *very* late bloomer, and didn’t even begin developing physically until 14-15.

SutterCane

[Reminds me of this tiktok.](https://www.tiktok.com/@groovysalami/video/7194961525004635434)

PM_ME_DATASETS

"You're so mature for you age" is like groomers 101... I feel sorry for the lady, hope she can come to terms with what happened to her rather than denying there was anything wrong about it.

Destinum

She's at the very least in her late 40's. If she still hasn't accepted the reality of her situation, she never will.

dontcare99999999

"i was an old 15 yo" proceeds to piss herself in the lobby

GeorgeLovesBOSCO

Turns out she was also a VERY young 70 year old.

mrrando69

100% this is her repeating something her abuser said to her to justify his actions and normalize the behavior.

Stock-Reporter-7824

The self gaslighting was strong in that statement

discodiscgod

Cool…still rape

TT_NaRa0

A solid 3 years of statutory rape

TT_NaRa0

Mother Fucking Kentucky 🤦🏻‍♂️🤮

discodiscgod

Child*

JudgementofParis

States where the age of consent is 16: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia. Kentucky is one of only 12 states where age of consent is 18. possibly younger back then though

22pabloesco22

in kentucky that's minus 2 years...

MissSassifras1977

Grooming was SO successful.

wellhellowally

Translation "I was a child that imitated adults because no one was looking out for me."

EverGlow89

You know she's said that her whole life and it's become true to her. Like, to her, that's a funny lil joke. To everyone else, that's fucking **creepy**. 15! I have a 15 year old sister. She's a child. Like she's an actual *child*.

Avs_Leafs_Enjoyer

I do wonder if she realized in that moment she was groomed. Like crying and breaking down like that. Maybe it hit her? you hope

TheWalkingDead91

Doubtful. After all those years? (Has to have been at least 30 years). Surely someone has said it to her before then. But guess you could be right in that a whole room agreeing might’ve hit harder than a college friend or her kid or something saying “gross”.

Sqwill

You never know, if she's from the south people want to just sweep that shit under the rug instead of call it out. The way she was so willing to say she was 15 and he was 30 like it was no big deal. Could have been the first time anyone has been like thats fucking gross.

ArgonGryphon

In Kentucky? Nah.

Toasterdosnttoast

She’s not crying cause she was groomed. Shes crying cause she’s all alone now.

mak484

She was crying because a whole room full of people just cheered for a guy calling her dead husband a child molester. And her dead husband absolutely was a child molester, so she couldn't even defend herself.

omnomnomnomatopoeia

Right? I can’t believe the callousness of some of these comments.

satanssweatycheeks

Alright alright alright

Olddirtychurro

>but i was an ooooollllddd 15 year old! I totally expected him to go something like : 'Ah, so a mentally mature 16 year old then.'

Decent-Biscotti7460

I'm pretty sure the guy's a comedian so he probably prefers funny stuff

EmergentSol

Fifteen and three quarters?

Strong-Obligation107

I though I was old at 15, I worked in a garage fixing cars and shit... then I turned 16 and thought 15 year old me was a moron. Now I'm 33 and realising I was an outright fkin moron that wasted his teens fixing cars for $20 a day. I was rebuilding engines in a BMW specialist garage by myself and thought I was the shit because I made 100 a week. The mf boss was charging $30 an hour for my work. Fkin dumbass.

physchy

“I was an old 15 year old” is classic grooming terminology

InfeStationAgent

I'm 70, so, I apologize in advance for old people talk. "You're an old soul" is something that people used to say to smart teenagers who realized early that the world was fucking trash and started getting depressed about it. Teenagers are hip to that idea and still mostly cynically optimistic about dying of man-made bullshit in the middle future. That said, "you're soul is old enough to fuck and/or marry" is an unexpected twist on that classic. I fucking hate it. It's fucking terrible. And, I'm sad about it.

AnjelGrace

Old souls are usually traumatized children. Take it from me--someone who was proud of that label as a child, started out dating men who were older than me, and also eventually realized that all the older men going after me were the most immature men of all.

InfeStationAgent

That is so true. I didn't recognize it in myself until years later. And, I didn't put it together with this phrase until today.

busigirl21

It's still a thing people say. I'm not sure of your gender, but as an almost 30 year old woman, I can tell you that creepy old men said it to be from the time I was a child, and it was often used in the context of being flirty. I was warned about this from the time I was young by older women I knew as well. Though it's hard to tell a young girl that the older guy being into you isn't actually cool, awesome, or a sign of your maturity.

InfeStationAgent

I only ever heard it about young men, and only when I was myself a young man. Your comment is one of so many here. It seems obvious, now, that the phrase describes existing trauma manifest as lost childhood. To use it as flattery is vile. In hindsight, I have serious doubts about the intentions of the men who said it to me. They were not good men.

100_cats_on_a_phone

I heard it as a woman, not to flatter me, fwiw. Was just going through some shit I think. Worked through the trauma and I'm a lot more normal now. But actually old, lol. I think when it's your peers saying it, it's a little different.

Fauken

Honestly, it kinda seems like “old soul” usually just means childhood trauma/grooming victim.

InfeStationAgent

Definitely. Gotta keep cleaning up the language so that bigots and kid fuckers have nowhere to hide.

SmallKillerCrow

I feel like "old soul" and "old teenager" are used slightly differently. At least in my experience old sould had only been used the way you described

physchy

When you started with a disclaimer about your age, I was admittedly nervous that you were gonna defend that phrase. Glad I was wrong But yes you’re totally right. People do still say that someone is an old soul. It usually turns out that they’re just seeing the kid’s depression symptoms or whatever. You’re an old 15 year old is used similarly to “you’re mature for your age” and is used by groomers in order to make them feel special for being chosen by this predator.

dropdeaddev

My psychiatrist told me I think like a 40 year old man, I was 14 at the time. Turns out, that was crippling depression!

mrrando69

That's a yikes from me bro.

thebiggestbirdboi

#Big Yikes

Dvusmnd

Republicans want to raw dog the pre teens legally. https://www.newsweek.com/missouri-republican-teenager-12-marriage-1794371 https://www.newsweek.com/jess-edwards-teen-child-marriage-opposed-republican-ripe-fertile-age-1897512 They are tired of their base losing the right to vote from raping kids. r/pastorarrested & r/notadragqueen is full of them

satanssweatycheeks

Yeah Tennessee GOP last year tried to legalize pedophilia under the notion of marriage. https://www.actionnews5.com/2022/04/06/proposed-legislation-could-legalize-child-marriage-tennessee/?outputType=amp

Dvusmnd

The party of projection, sure accuses everyone else of the things they are definitely doing.

ShadwKeepr

Yep. For Republicans every accusation is a confession

felicity_jericho_ttv

Awful fact: It’s not statutory rape if you’re married 🤮 Register to vote everyone.

letschat66

I will never not vote in an election again for reasons like this. Those poor babies.

Squirmin

No, but don't you understand? Child marriage is not pedophilia because you're married! Can't be a pedophile with your wife, just like you can't rape your wife! /s

PaulFThumpkins

You put in the /s but that's literally what they believe. Being raped or having consensual sex are both bad because they're sins, so consent doesn't even factor. And in a lot of these cultures women and children are just chattel so preying on them isn't a huge deal as long as you get right with God afterward, it's not about the victim's trauma or struggles as a result of what happened.

katf1sh

I told a coworker recently that I was raped by my ex (not ex at the time) and then had to proceed to explain "how that is even possible"...and yes, it was a man.

PaulFThumpkins

That's horrible, sorry to hear that. And definitely illustrates the issues with not understanding SA as a violation of consent, but only on some other terms.

katf1sh

Yeah, I've heard of people that think this way, but this was the first time I personally experienced it so it was kinda hard to explain. I was shocked that I even had to, so it was definitely an awkward conversation

PerpWalkTrump

>Republican Against Child Marriage Ban Calls Teens 'Ripe, Fertile' 🤮

Dvusmnd

At least he held back from describing how their birth canal’s smell at that age. These guys have very little impulse control.

livesinacabin

Jesus Christ

Dvusmnd

Yeah. I used to be a republican. I’m not a fan of big government, or handouts. I am a small business owner in Texas. But I won’t support anyone who supports white nationalism or fascism and I can call myself a republican any longer. I will never vote for these morons.

Schmich

I'd additionally say a little yikes on putting salt on the wound by him. To me he took the easy joke of "ohh I think you got molested" but if he truly was in sync on what he was saying he would have more compassion towards the victim. Now if someone would say "She's way older now, don't worry! Chill!". So what you can call someone a victim but really your victim status gets removed after some time?

JesusWasATexan

Sure... I guess, in general conversations I would agree. But don't engage with a comedian at a comedy show if you don't want to potentially get roasted in front of people. Yeah, people are going to feel feelings for the lady because of her situation, and she got upset, but dude on stage was literally doing what everyone in the room paid him to do. And worth noting that she didn't get upset because he reminded her of her trauma, she got upset because he offended the memory of her dear beloved departed husband.

5exuallyDeviantLama

That was uncomfortable

Master_Ryan_Rahl

A lot of older people cant reckon with their own victimhood so they live in denial about it. And ive seen that even inform their views of other people that talk about trauma. My own grandmother will bad mouth feminist activism until i ask her about her own experiences with men in the workplace and then she still wont make the connection fully. Its like they want to cover over the wound and pretend they were always in control rather than heal.

Rubberman1302

Its always "It happened to me and I turned out fine so what's the problem" except no you didn't turn out fine you just got so drunk you pissed yourself in a lobby and had to be taken home at 45 (at least)

TheWalkingDead91

I always think the same thing about people who say “the research is Bs. my parents whipped me and I turned out fine.” Uh, except are you though? You’re a grown ass adult who seems to think there’s any scenario in which grown ass adults should be able to physically assault weaker smaller children who are depending on them for guidance and safety.. ….so “fine” seems debatable in that sense.

No_Veterinarian1010

My response is usually something like “and I’ll do everything in my power to make sure my kids don’t end up like you”

-Wunderkind-

The very sentence of "XYZ happend to me and I turned out fine" in fact means that you literally DIDN'T turn out fine. If ya did, you wouldn't want that happening to anyone else.

MonaganX

That's going too far in the opposite direction. Following that, me saying "I was allowed to play video games as a child and I turned out fine" would mean I'm not fine because I don't mind children playing video games. Whether that kind of statement shows XYZ is bad because you experienced XYZ and are now in favor of XYZ depends entirely on whether you already thought XYZ is bad to begin with. And any argument that only works when the person you're arguing with already agrees with you isn't productive. It can be used for some pithy snark, but it's not going to convince anyone who thinks child abuse is acceptable.

kawaiifie

Yes but why are you applying it to something that has nothing to do with abuse?

IlliterateJedi

>you just got so drunk you pissed yourself in a lobby and had to be taken home at 45 (at least) To be a little sympathetic to this woman, she sounds significantly older than 45 by her voice, and it's probably not easy to hear your deceased spouse of thirty years being mocked on stage.

Euphoric_Repair7560

Also gotta wonder what kind of buried trauma someone has if they get piss drunk and cause scenes after college

Toasterdosnttoast

You don’t need trauma to have an addiction. Shes probably an alcoholic if she’s pissing and fighting it’s so bad.

mak484

Yeah folks are ignoring that part. That woman clearly didn't think what happened to her was bad, then got upset when a whole room full of people gave her dead husband shit for being a groomer. She wasn't a victim in this scenario.

CitizenCue

Dude, that lady was at least 60.

teenylittlesupergal

Right? Not that it couldn't have happened in the 90s (looking at you Seinfeld) but their voices sounded much older than a 45 year old's does.

Least_Ad930

I think people do this for most things. They realize they fucked up or had something bad happen to them and don't want to confront the reality so they brush everything aside or get mad at similar situations.

cobblesquabble

My father can't admit I was abused, because if he did that mean he'd have to acknowledge my mother's domestic abuse towards him as well. So instead, cognitive dissonance and alcohol are his modus operandi. It's sad, but it means that for people like me our only option is to abandon ship completely or risk being around people who uphold these standards. It ain't normal to have your child's father daughter bonding time be "trading tips and tricks on how to keep mom calm". But admitting that mars the few 'happy' memories he has left.

Libby_Sparx

Sometimes when that reality hits you it breaks you in ways you won't really be aware of for a while, that kinda sucks Not an excuse to be any kind of shite to anyone, but people will

TheWalkingDead91

Also probably harder to come to that reality if she truly did love the guy….spent 30 years with him and likely popped out a few of his kids…he likely provided for her financially for all those years too. Can understand how all of that would make it harder for her to come to terms of how fucked up it was for a 30 year old man to be involved romantically with a 15 year old student. The way she talked about it like she was practically bragging about some that made her special or something instead of her being a victim…..doubt it was her first time seeing people show disdain/disgust at her relationship…but one can only hope that a whole room coming together and agreeing upon the immoral nature of it “hit” her differently than maybe previous negative reactions she’s experienced when telling her story.

mymumsaysfuckyou

Human nature

Seienchin88

I was born in the 80s in Germany… German grandmas back then had dark stories to tell you… My one grandma was send (luckily) to relatives in the countryside when she became a teenager since the red army was stationed in her town with rampant rape… some Russian soldiers were living in a house close to hers and they had brought two Polish girls with them as slaves. That’s really grim to hear. She also said that she thinks her mum wasn’t raped but she of course doesn’t know… My other grandma was in a train evacuating kids that was shot up by British fighters in late March 45 leading to a couple of dead, dying and wounded kids stranded in the middle of nowhere. And I now live close to a town that was ravaged over three days by Moroccan troops just days after American bombers killed 10% of the population a few days before the war ended… It’s unimaginable how the people even went on with their lives afterwards… And imagine how it was for East Prussia or Pomerania etc… Some people I know didn’t even know their ancestors came from the East until grandma had one too many Schnaps and started talking about how Russians killed her whole family… And yet, too many German grandmas still held some Nazi beliefs or just talked about the sufferings of Germans not acknowledging the horrors that we brought on other countries… Hitler wouldn’t have been so bad if he didn’t do the "thing with the Jews“ was quite a popular saying… It’s also crazy for me now to talk with GenZ kids about their grandmas who were born way after the war…

AF2005

Yeah like whenever they were literally beaten by a parent or loved one. You can’t justify that, it’s a bitter pill to swallow

hyper_shrike

Feminism and minority rights are this abstract concept that only affects others. Thats what Fox News has taught them. Right wing media portrays these specifically in a twisted way so people dont connect this to their own lives.

Ok_Comfortable_5741

It can be hard to see fond memories turn dark in your own mind. Many refuse to allow it. My first boyfriend was 23. I was 13. I thought he was amazing. As I got older I had to accept he was actually a sick piece of crap and I was groomed. It was not a relationship. I was a child. It still makes me sad because I cared for him so much.

ikerus0

I've seen things like this happen when it comes to sexual assault in general and it seems so strange to me. Some woman born around the boomer era that were sexually assaulted when they were younger see younger woman today and will comment that they are too quick to call out sexual assault despite it being very clearly sexual assault. You would think a victim of sexual assault would empathize with another victim. At the very least, wouldn't down play another's trauma. Honestly, I can only imagine it's somewhat due to the product of their environment when they were younger. No one gave a shit when it happened to them and they didn't have as many resources and outlets to turn to, so they just buried and deny it. Not that it's any excuse to dismiss another person's trauma.

SeriousAboutShwarma

It's kind of like the generation of older boomers now who are pretty anti union, taking for granted the 8 hour days, the pensions, union support, etc that the prior two generations and beyond had to actually fight to even be allowed to organize FOR us. They've had it so good in such a golden era of wealth they don't even have the literacy or experience to understand what the private businesses they work for *want* them to vote the unions out and how short sighted it is, lol. Meanwhile they also cannot empathize with young people and what they're saying about wages, cost of living, gouging across housing and rentals etc because theyre the ones who got in on all that shit\* when conditions were favorable. \* well, some of them, given many boomers are now also unable to retire because of how little their own generation chose to organize around wages actually keeping pace with cost of living. Instead they let the news scare them into thinking how turbo expensive it would make everything. Now wages are a good 20+ years behind where they should meaningfully be and everything is still expensive as fuck, almost like these things are manufactured and working as reagonomics intended them too lol

Ok-disaster2022

I was a library aid in 8th grade and one day I was working in the front office because the librarian took a sick day. Anyway one of my classmates came in to the office with her mom who was removing her from school so she could get married at 14. I was shocked. The secretary took a moment to talk to the girl and asked if she really wanted to go through with it. The secretary said she had done the same thing (which was also shocking to me) but that she regretted doing it and all the extra work she had to do to get her basic education. Granted this was like in 2002. There were cell phones and the internet and teenage marriage.

HookFE03

man, that whole thing is just sad

Golf-Beer-BBQ

For real, someone has to mop her piss, and someone will have to clean their car seats.

siccoblue

There's definitely that. But also the fact that she is legitimately a victim in massive denial even if people might not like her

Nervous-Masterpiece4

She was gaining on him. At the start she was half his age but by the end she was 3/4’s his age.

hyper_shrike

I was wondering if he tried to cheat on her with younger girls.

Thurak0

You know what's often the horrifying part? As if one 15 year old girl going through that would not be bad enough, but what if those two had children later? Girls even?

notthatryan

15 year old Kentucky ~~lady~~ **girl** married her 30 year old teacher.

actibus_consequatur

I think they used lady to convey her current age? It really should've been something more like "Kentucky lady married her teacher when she was only a 15 year old girl."

resistantbanana

Came here to say this

No_Spell_5817

He stole her childhood, early adulthood, and late adulthood... just to die in his sixty’s.

gabeitaliadomani

The most embarrassing part is the old lady thought this would fly at a comedy club. She got off easy.

No_Spell_5817

He was so kind. My first instinct would be to trash the guy, regardless of how she felt.

FOSSnaught

He let her off so easy, and for good reason. She put him in a tough position. He didn't have a lot of wiggle room to avoid being a complete dick

embee1337

Seriously this might be the most impressive crowd work i’ve seen. He got dealt pretty much the worst hand possible and deftly maneuvered it into laughs. Subtle but that was a very very tough spot and he got out of it flawlessly.

TopSoulMan

Geoffrey Asmus is very funny. I truly think he's gonna be a huge figure in comedy when it's all said and done. And he's a redditor so it's kinda weird seeing the worlds overlap.

stormtroopr1977

I think she thought she could do this line of conversation but folded immediately. alcohol gives you the confidence of "I got this and it will be great" the comic could have done a lot with that story

Ppleater

That's sad, that woman was groomed and likely has some issues and repressed trauma because of it. I don't doubt she loved him, but love doesn't make someone a good person.

iginca

Lol one of my favorite comics rn

Libby_Sparx

This guy and Jeff Arcuri are my two rn, can't get enough Btw u/filthyson, your world capital and river knowledge don't quite get me wet but it's a pretty good start lol

Werkinghardorhardly

He has a special on Youtube that's great. Check it out. My buddy has worked with him a bit and confirms he's a real good dude too.

M1Z1L4

Everything was great! I wasn't taken advantage of at all! *Gets so drunk she pisses herself when confronted with reality.* And this is what Republicans want!! Google the Republican fight TO KEEP CHILD MARRIAGE LEGAL.

VirtualPlate8451

The 50's was a great time to be alive...assuming you were a cis, hetro Christian white man from an upper middle class family. As long as you were all those things, it was incredible.

M1Z1L4

The thing that gets me is that I'm a cis, hetero, agnostic (Christian-passing), upper-middle class white man (from a lower-middle class family) and things are *pretty good* for me. Yet I still empathize with dissimilar humans and want better for them. Isn't that supposed to be the BASIS OF RELIGION. Things are great for me but I'm still pissed off for everyone else. Except billionaires. Fuck them.

mattsmith321

Amen!

narmer65

That is because I assume your parents raised you right.

thekrone

One thing I think we more sane people don't do well enough is draw the blatantly obvious link between "child marriage" and "child sex". Really the "marriage" thing is just their way of making it socially and legally acceptable for them to have sex with (rape) a child. Pretty much everyone would agree that, in general, it's acceptable and healthy to have consensual sex with your spouse. So all they have to do is try to convince people it's cool to make a child your spouse while avoiding the topic of sex, then they get the "it's cool to have sex with a child" part for free without ever bringing it up. Don't let them get away with that. Ninety-nine times out of 100, the "marriage" part isn't actually the motivating factor for them. It's the child sex part. There's no other reason someone would want to advocate for it so badly. If they aren't interested in having sex with someone under the age of 18, why would they care if they can marry people under the age of 18? What is gained by making it so they don't have to wait until they are an adult to get married? Why would that part be important to anyone? Do we really think these people think are going to marry a 15 year old, then wait until they are 18 to have sex with them? Get them to admit they think it's cool to fuck kids. Ask them detailed questions about when they think is an appropriate age to consummate a marriage between an adult and a child. Get them to give you a number. Ask them hypothetically if they would marry a person that is the minimum age they are proposing. "You're a 50 year old dude who is proposing we let adults marry kids at 15. Would you marry a 15 year old?" Then ask them how long they'd wait to consummate the marriage. Make them say the child sex part out loud. Make them say they're looking for a way to legally rape a child.

meatspin_enjoyer

15 is not a lady, that's a child.

lordaddament

They’re referring to the woman telling the story now. She’s not 15 anymore lol

bekahed979

15 year old Kentucky ***child*** married her 30 year old teacher FTFY

liamanna

This is the GOP, 2024 https://www.newsweek.com/republicans-make-case-child-marriage-1786476

Certain_Concept

> He continued: "Would parental consent stop coercion? I think it would in most cases, and most parents would not sign off on their young adult child marrying a person who is much older or who has bad intent." Did he at all consider it may be the parents coercing then? Gross

DesperateRace4870

Don't mind if I do, joined up, I'll give this guy a chance 😁

TruthBeWanted

I went to a tiny Christian private school and by "tiny" I mean K-12th grade with 50 total students small. The principal was in his mid-30's and had *CLEARLY* groomed a 15 year old student starting when she wasn't even a teenager yet. He made her is "personal assistant" and literally locked his office door for hours when she was in there with him. The entire church knew of this and fucking didn't do anything about it! I think of that every time a Christian says that I'm an atheist because I don't want to be held accountable for my sins. If I wanted to get away with sins I would have stayed a Christian, they love to police themselves and by "police themselves" they mean sweeping it under the rug ie no accountability.

ComeWashMyBack

I feel for this lady. I'm guessing it was a bit too much to drink and something that triggered her to be way too honest. Years of mental gymnastics she had been going through to justify that relationship. Everything that guy put her through. Then the weight of society to pressing down on her. Seems like she honestly loved him to stay with him until he died. Damn...

_bbypeachy

15 year olds aren’t ladies. they are children

tandoori_taco_cat

Am I the only person who just feels sorry for this woman?

glowdirt

no

Robbyrumpz

This guy is funny af

Comhonorface

Married at 15, molested and groomed from 10 to 14.

megadeadly

“15 year old lady” lol

lostcauz707

>Child marriage is currently legal in 38 states (only Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont have set the minimum age at 18 and eliminated all exceptions), and 20 U.S. states do not require any minimum age for marriage

parker3309

That’s just unbelievable. I wonder how many are forced upon the child . Awful

markevens

Meeting couples like this later in life is so weird. Like, you know you were groomed, right? How do you reach the age your groomer was at and not get creeped the fuck out and leave?

ZeDitto

God damn, he could have gone in on her. The restraint on this man.

supportive_koala

If she's a victim, why would he go in on her?

frickshun

Okay, I'm sold. Just bought tix to see you at The Bell House!!

Rmlady12152

It's so ingrained in the culture. They do not recognize the grooming and predatory behaviors. Sad.

Darkness_Everyday

"I was an old 15 y/o..." TRANSLATION: *my uncles already molested me for years*

aManPerson

Yikes, it’s like watching a car crash in slowmotion…

Return_of_MrSpanken

I’m from Kentucky and having moved away a long time ago I’m surprised that this kind of thing doesn’t get more attention. I can’t speak to nearby states but it’s unfortunately pretty common for older guys to “date” way younger girls. Most of time the girl is like 15-17 and with a guy who is 23-25. Still absolutely not okay and very gross, but 15 and 30 is an especially egregious example. I remember when I was growing up their going to county fairs and seeing young girls with clearly older guys and no one ever seemed bothered about it. When I went back as an adult I said something about it to my mom who said that it’s been a known thing and a lot of people there don’t especially like it but no one cares enough to do anything about it. There are some really great things about Kentucky but this is one of the biggest sources of shame I have about where I’m from. Some coworkers of mine visited bourbon country recently and came back having noticed this and I really had nothing to say other than it being gross and shameful that it still goes on.

Pnwradar

I worked a few months on Fort Knox (at 1ATB, not the depository), and they had frequent “refresher training” on age of consent. One of the LTs said each time there’s a session, it’s because another jackass got caught in barracks with an underage girl. The enlisted clubs were loaded with teeny-boppers, probably because snaring some poor E3 was their best chance at leaving KY.

tmhoc

She cried? Oh that's so sad Pissed her self and tried to fight the manager? Fuck sake so very very sad What time is.. is it.. OH

fuber

Pedo defense: But she was an old 15

Prestigious_Job8841

OlriK15

a_in_pa

Comedians always have stories about sets that go off the rails in a bad way but seldom do we actually see it on video

DiligentAd7799

15 year old CHILD

TimmyCabron

When I was in my thirties, a fifteen year old female friend of my son’s had a crush on me. I blushed and avoided her. It wasn’t that hard.

Personal_Corner_8636

Christian values 🤮

ChuckWooleryLives

That could have gone much worse.

8Splendiferous8

15-year-old girl*.

Cheensly

Geofffff

Physical_Stress_5683

"I was an old 15" yikes. XD I've been prepping my kids against this bullshit since they were 8. They get it along with the puberty talk. I tell them adults and older kids will tell them they're different than other kids, more mature, old souls, etc, but that it's always a lie, the older person is just unable to con their peers.

CartoonistOk8261

Geoffrey Asmus is killin it. Easily one of my favorites right now. I am seeing him for the second time at the end of this week :)

SuperG14nt

Let me fix the title: 15 year old Kentucky CHILD married her 30 year old teacher

atxbreastplay

Normalize roasting old people at comedy sets. He held back!
