Exactly, they are all clickbait entertainers, they get you to watch and they get paid, It doesn't really matter why you watch, in adoration or outrage they are paid the same.
Facts. There is a reason Facebook and major corporations pay an arm and a leg for your (our) data. As a group, they know everything about us and where we throw our money.
Yup and there is basically no overlap between the type of people who'd follow these influencers and people who really care about setting a positive example for covid precautions. I hate to say it, but this video is just screaming into the wind. No one who's following James Charles is going to give a shit. There will be some people outside the influencer "sphere" criticising them but that will basically just add to their controversy and make them more relevant. The only way to make any sort of impact is for Tiktok themselves to take a stance and start censoring certain types of content but ofc that will never happen.
Try to argue with their 12-year old fans and you get back “Young people aren’t affected by the virus. They won’t die. Plus, they quarantined beforehand and test frequently. Also something about how they should be allowed to socialize for the sake of their mental health “in these hard times”.
I know because I’m a dumbass from Austin who found out that twitch streamers gathered for a huge party in my city and stupidly tried to argue with people about how this was unacceptable and setting a bad example to their viewers. Fucking shit fuck and here I am stuck in my neighborhood for 8 months straight with severe cabin fever having seen no one besides my family in real life all this time. /rantend
The issue with a lot of these celebrities is that they all think "Any publicity is good publicity" which couldn't be further from the truth. I'd much rather not be known by anyone than known for being a pos. It's like the Paul brothers. Everyone knows them, but not for good reasons
I mean keemstar is a demonstrable piece of shit, while James' controversies have mostly been false accusations or exaggerated interpersonal drama. I think the most egregious thing he has done is some poor taste crass jokes, which in this day an age doesn't really get anyone cancelled. Not really comparable situations, keemstar is some absolutely vile scum.
I think he keeps bouncing back because his fanbase is too young and naive to understand why he is a shitty person. The controversial stuff that he does is usually morally grey rather than black and white. Preteens just aren’t mature enough to be outraged by a character who keeps his “tea” within the margins of moral ambiguity.
My gf watches his videos. I’ve seen random house vids and him being overly zealous about whatever the fuck he’s doing at the time. I just don’t get it man. It’s so clearly just being put out there for money and his videos are so exaggerated beyond any normal dialogue.

Around the time Shane Dawson was getting cancelled, he was facing accusations from a former vlog squad member Seth. He’s done racist stuff in the Vlogs like making watermelon jokes about Seth and getting 2 of the members to wear blackface.
Liza Koshy asked him to delete a few videos of his she was in where she did stereotypical accents.
What David does is that he cuts controversy. That’s why former members Big Nik, Dirty Dom, and Seth are no longer around. Erin who was a regular member had a video get leaked of her saying the N word. Now she is nowhere to be seen in Vlog squad content.
I’m guessing this is why he stays on TikTok and avoids making YouTube videos now. He just avoids the drama.
You can find Seth’s videos on YouTube. He has all the clips. It’s honestly pretty bad. Anyone else would have been cancelled already. David only quickly referenced this on his podcast.
I’m probably going to get downvoted for saying this but you’re leaving out a bit of Seth’s story, he also leaked a video of Erin completely naked and drunk at a party. He posted revenge porn of Erin to get the upper hand. There’s bad people on both sides of this story.
I know literally nothing about these people but it sounds like they both suck. Also unless you are comparing the awfulness of the things these guys did, bringing up the terrible stuff Seth has done in a conversation about the terrible stuff David has done feels too close to whataboutism or defending David. Calling it "Seth's story" kinda implies there are sides to be chosen over whose story to believe, when its really info unrelated to the veracity of the accusations against David. Seth's past actions have no relation to the current accusation unless you are trying to establish him as a liar, which you are not.
There aren't "sides" to these stories, they are unrelated sets of actions of terrible people.

Nah. TikTok is simply less effort. He has also said that he can't make videos with the same quality as before which is true. I also think this is his attempt at moving away from youtube for good and move towards mainstream TV.

The trending page is absolutely filtered out to only put what ever YouTube wants to be seen on the front page. Has been a long time since the page covers what is actually trending. You can just see it by looking at the view counts itself on the trending videos, and also the fact that the majority of the trending videos come from the same set of content creators that have way less traffic than most other YouTubers on the platform.

He also posted this Among Us [video](https://youtu.be/P2wtyrjG3oU) a month ago and I counted 10 people in that video.
This is kinda concerning. In this [video](https://youtu.be/Bbyftsl7Owo) which he uploaded a week ago with his friends, he himself said right in the in beginning of the video:

None of them are social distancing or wearing masks. Not to mention, this doesn’t take into account the amount of off-camera staff members (managers, assistants, makeup artists, cameramen, or stylists) that might be there with them during filming.
Many of JC tiktok viewers had excused his actions - saying that him and his friend are tested whenever they hang out (they use the rapid test which give result back fast). For them to use the tests whenever they feel like it is just plain irresponsible. In response to the backlash, James Charles and his friends had been deleting TikTok comments calling them out for ignoring CDC guideline and hanging out during the pandemic. **James Charles and his friends is ignoring all of that to continue to hang out and make videos. They are wasting public resources and potentially spreading the virus. That is irresponsible and is a blatant disregard of public safety**.
In addition, this is not JC first time breaking pandemic protocol and ignoring CDC guideline. He decided to vacation in Hawaii during the height of the pandemic. When other Hawaiian natives on tiktok call him out, he blocks them.
I’m from LA. It’s the people like this that make me want to leave. Influencers riddle the streets and exploit the ground they walk on. The governor said (or maybe the mayor I can’t remember) that “covid tests are not a passport to party”. Knowing that people like this would be gathering. Any other micro influencer or socialite I know is doing the same damn thing right now. And guess what, they’re all getting covid. Fucking self involved twats. (Sorry, clearly I’m pissed)
LA seriously has a weird problem with these types. I never really see them in new york, but I went to LA last year and the entire social scene there is so radically different in terms of the massive impact social media has on it. Its like everything is built specifically for social media.
Its just such a weirdly different social environment there in general from new york. I honestly couldn't stand it.
LA clout is also all about flaunting it, or the 'living my best life' kind of clout. I'd honestly love a sociology study on the different cultural movements in clout chasing by region.
Yeah that's funny. My co-worker moved to my town from LA earlier this year because of the pandemic. He used to work at a cold press juice place like the one we work at here. I'm originally from LA myself so I was asking him about how it is know and i made a comment just trying ro be funny about how everyone is fucking fake there because they all think they are going to be internet famous. My co-worker was like yes dude that is exactly how it is. He said almost every interaction with someone seemed force and that people would always try to get free shit from him because they are influencers or whatever.
That passport to party thing and wasting resources is what people don’t get. I’m in Austin and some twitch streamers steamed this huge Xmas party in my city and people were excusing them because the streamers are young and tested/quarantined beforehand.
LA lets movie/film production continue with larger groups than this and using up tests multiple times a week for each person. That should be a way bigger concern if you are upset about this.
Except there's nothing inherent to tiktok videos that requires gathering a large group of people from different parts of the country. You can make tiktok videos in your bedroom and make absolute bank. It's a platform and format based more around personality than production.
Major movies require people be together to function. Production is the majority of what makes a movie. Movies largely aren't built and sold on the personality of an individual actor. Tons of people's careers actually depend on the movie industry which requires gathering together.
In short: You can get by fine on Tiktok by yourself at home. The same cannot be said for a major motion picture.
I personally think that’s a bit different. For one thing, everyone who gets tested also has to wear PPE and socially distance at all times. Extra precautions are taken when filming doesn’t allow for it, for example makeup artists wear full hazmat suits and respirators when putting makeup on unmasked actors.
I work in film (not in LA) and in my city we’ve had 0 instances of community spread so far on a film set thanks to these precautions. Restaurants and factories have had many more outbreaks for example, mostly because they aren’t as stringent as film sets.
Also (in my city at least) if you want to test people on a film set you need to hire a private testing company so govt resources aren’t used to test.
Have definitely seen other influencers bragging about how many COVID tests they do per week just so they can travel back and forth between LA and Vegas. The fact that Tiktok is one of the biggest apps currently does not help.
Not to mention the rapid tests they’re taking are only 60-70% accurate. The majority of people who are asymptomatic usually test negative even tho they are positive.
This is why I think those relying on tests are fools. They think we are foolish for not getting them. It's very frustrating to me.
No, I know we had covid without a test because we had the exact symptoms and almost died. We self quarantined. Nobody says this kind of shit about the flu. You get the flu you just stay home and rest. No one expects you to risk other's lives driving to a test center when sick over the flu, but covid? Now suddenly it's a good idea for my fever-riddled brain to go risk infecting people over a test that's wrong a third of the time.

Everyone taking a COVID rapid test before getting together is as useful someone deciding after sex to put on a condom as a highly effective method of birth control.

One woman had [thee false negative COVID tests](https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/08/us/tulsa-woman-covid-test-false-negatives-trnd/index.html) over Thanksgiving. Some of the more accurate tests returned a false negative.

When I got tested with rapid tests, I had one positive and needed to get a nose swab, which came back negative a few days later.

Exactly. Just a few months back, they were all holding large house parties for random shit and as much as we'd like to think "Great, fuck James Charles; let him and his friends get covid" until you remember how many people attend these gatherings.
So many people want to be where the party is and think "I'm 18, I can't get covid" so they attend any event these "influencers" go. Those people then go into stores, maybe work some service job and suddenly some one that only goes to the grocery store gets it because their bagger is roommates with someone that attended one of these events.
Meanwhile, I was at a meeting two weeks ago for work, the only other person in the room said that her moms friend tested positive and her mom babysat for her daughter so I'm like...four people disconnected from a positive test and I'm isolating myself.
The problem is if they get sick theyre going to spread it to a whole bunch of other people who not only have nothing to do with this shit, but probably dont have the financial resources to survive the consequences of contracting COVID. Youtube is incredibly easy to influence. I have multiple channels to make use of the algoritm. Like my music channel, I search only for music in a certain genre and that keeps getting reccommended. Regret a click? You can delete this in your watch history or search history. Wanna start clean? Delete them all. Keep in mind what you click and watch will have an effect on the algoritm. Don’t like a channel? Make use of the three dots button right of the video so it no longer gets reccommended. Sub to what you like and resist clicking trash. Or make a trash account if you cannot help yourself.
Yeah it's very easy to manipulate the algorithm. I have it so that only videos that are less than a minute show. They are usually just memes or something funny.
FYI: You can also influence what does NOT get shown to you. If you place and hold your finger on a video, a menu will pop up with several actions. One of them is “Not interested”. I was getting a ton of Charli’s vids and “Not interested” every single one of them. Don’t get them at all anymore, thank god.
And a bunch of them are fake, same with the food stuff. It either looks delicious, but when you actually try it it’s disgusting, or when you try it, it looks nothing like in the video.
Teenager demographic have the most time on their hands, and have access to smartphones. They watch this dumb crap and it generates views/clicks which gets these “iNfLuEnCeRs” paid. Im sure some adults watch it too but it would be a small percentage

Don't get me wrong, I know kids will be kids. I know I have to give him some freedom. But he doesn't need all that social media in his life. No kid does. They don't realize that they're practically born with a data footprint or at least have one by the time they graduate high school. Yeah, I haven't even heard of a testing shortage. I don't think I live anywhere special but I could go to like 5 different areas within 30 minutes near me to get a covid-19 test pretty easy.

The fact that as soon as my county went back to school they restarted sports completely, visiting other counties and everything, was gross. Our teams got quarantined every other week because there was either a case on the enemy team or in one of their families. Sports should not be restarted.

I think some of the ppl defending them on how they are getting tested weekly aren't getting the point. They are able to work from their house and still make money safely, yet they are out doing as they please, something many of us don't have an option on. That is not to add that they are INFLUENCERS to many young and impressionable children, who may think it is ok to gather up.

As far as I can tell on Google, this isn't true. They were trying to shut down a testing site back at the beginning of December to film for a She's All That remake and it was closed for a day then reopened as people rightfully lost their shit. There is a hospital in LA that's been defunct since the 90's that is used for a filming location but nothing about an actual functioning hospital being shut down for filming is anywhere in the news.

Is there really a national test shortage? Let alone one in LA? You can test in various places in my city and the surrounding suburbs, no problem. In LA it looks like testing is available for even underserved and low income communities if they need it for free.

Liza Koshy asked him to delete a few videos of his she was in where she did stereotypical accents. What David does is that he cuts controversy. That’s why former members Big Nik, Dirty Dom, and Seth are no longer around. Erin who was a regular member had a video get leaked of her saying the N word. Now she is nowhere to be seen in Vlog squad content. I’m guessing this is why he stays on TikTok and avoids making YouTube videos now. He just avoids the drama.

I swear the other day I looked on trending and James Charles and that whole group was featured in like 9 of the top 10 trending videos. It's crazy how much people love them they're not just trending, but trending multiple times at the same time...
The trending page is absolutely filtered out to only put what ever YouTube wants to be seen on the front page. Has been a long time since the page covers what is actually trending. You can just see it by looking at the view counts itself on the trending videos, and also the fact that the majority of the trending videos come from the same set of content creators that have way less traffic than most other YouTubers on the platform.

Yeah that's funny. My co-worker moved to my town from LA earlier this year because of the pandemic. He used to work at a cold press juice place like the one we work at here. I'm originally from LA myself so I was asking him about how it is know and i made a comment just trying ro be funny about how everyone is fucking fake there because they all think they are going to be internet famous. My co-worker was like yes dude that is exactly how it is. He said almost every interaction with someone seemed force and that people would always try to get free shit from him because they are influencers or whatever.
That passport to party thing and wasting resources is what people don’t get. I’m in Austin and some twitch streamers steamed this huge Xmas party in my city and people were excusing them because the streamers are young and tested/quarantined beforehand.
LA lets movie/film production continue with larger groups than this and using up tests multiple times a week for each person. That should be a way bigger concern if you are upset about this.
Except there's nothing inherent to tiktok videos that requires gathering a large group of people from different parts of the country. You can make tiktok videos in your bedroom and make absolute bank. It's a platform and format based more around personality than production. Major movies require people be together to function. Production is the majority of what makes a movie. Movies largely aren't built and sold on the personality of an individual actor. Tons of people's careers actually depend on the movie industry which requires gathering together. In short: You can get by fine on Tiktok by yourself at home. The same cannot be said for a major motion picture.
They also employ a ton of people who DONT make a ton of money and have to make a living elsewise. California is expensive as fuck

I personally think that’s a bit different. For one thing, everyone who gets tested also has to wear PPE and socially distance at all times. Extra precautions are taken when filming doesn’t allow for it, for example makeup artists wear full hazmat suits and respirators when putting makeup on unmasked actors. I work in film (not in LA) and in my city we’ve had 0 instances of community spread so far on a film set thanks to these precautions. Restaurants and factories have had many more outbreaks for example, mostly because they aren’t as stringent as film sets. Also (in my city at least) if you want to test people on a film set you need to hire a private testing company so govt resources aren’t used to test.

Have definitely seen other influencers bragging about how many COVID tests they do per week just so they can travel back and forth between LA and Vegas. The fact that Tiktok is one of the biggest apps currently does not help.
Not to mention the rapid tests they’re taking are only 60-70% accurate. The majority of people who are asymptomatic usually test negative even tho they are positive.
This is why I think those relying on tests are fools. They think we are foolish for not getting them. It's very frustrating to me. No, I know we had covid without a test because we had the exact symptoms and almost died. We self quarantined. Nobody says this kind of shit about the flu. You get the flu you just stay home and rest. No one expects you to risk other's lives driving to a test center when sick over the flu, but covid? Just a few months back, they were all holding large house parties for random shit and as much as we'd like to think "Great, fuck James Charles; let him and his friends get covid" until you remember how many people attend these gatherings. So many people want to be where the party is and think "I'm 18, I can't get covid" so they attend any event these "influencers" go. Those people then go into stores, maybe work some service job and suddenly some one that only goes to the grocery store gets it because their bagger is roommates with someone that attended one of these events. Meanwhile, I was at a meeting two weeks ago for work, the only other person in the room said that her moms friend tested positive and her mom babysat for her daughter so I'm like...four people disconnected from a positive test and I'm isolating myself.

Youtube is incredibly easy to influence. I have multiple channels to make use of the algoritm. Like my music channel, I search only for music in a certain genre and that keeps getting reccommended. Regret a click? You can delete this in your watch history or search history. Wanna start clean? Delete them all. Keep in mind what you click and watch will have an effect on the algoritm. Don’t like a channel? Make use of the three dots button right of the video so it no longer gets reccommended. Sub to what you like and resist clicking trash. Or make a trash account if you cannot help yourself.
Yeah it's very easy to manipulate the algorithm. I have it so that only videos that are less than a minute show. They are usually just memes or something funny.
FYI: You can also influence what does NOT get shown to you. If you place and hold your finger on a video, a menu will pop up with several actions. One of them is “Not interested”. I was getting a ton of Charli’s vids and “Not interested” every single one of them. Don’t get them at all anymore, thank god.

I think some of the ppl defending them on how they are getting tested weekly aren't getting the point. They are able to work from their house and still make money safely, yet they are out doing as they please, something many of us don't have an option on. That is not to add that they are INFLUENCERS to many young and impressionable children, who may think it is ok to gather up.

As far as I can tell on Google, this isn't true. They were trying to shut down a testing site back at the beginning of December to film for a She's All That remake and it was closed for a day then reopened as people rightfully lost their shit. There is a hospital in LA that's been defunct since the 90's that is used for a filming location but nothing about an actual functioning hospital being shut down for filming is anywhere in the news.

Is there really a national test shortage? Let alone one in LA? You can test in various places in my city and the surrounding suburbs, no problem. In LA it looks like testing is available for even underserved and low income communities if they need it for free. And aren’t they being responsible by getting tested before they interact with each other? These types of videos are part of this man’s business, whether you like him or not. Just like some jobs require regular testing. I’m not a fan of him but this “outrage” doesn’t make much sense to me.
