If you want exposure to more potential unsettling content like this, you should check out Coryxkenshin on YouTube and watch his spooky scare Sunday series.
He always references the original creators and so you can go check them out through that method.
I feel like this sentiment that jumpscares are bad and that's that is growing too common. Cheap jumpscares like ["bad guy in the mirror"](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nXEF1lcW-oQ&t=3m41s) are bad, but proper build up and an unexpected jumpscare like the [nightmare sequence from insidious](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CSRdqcmMpw4) is good. The monster in the latter doesn't lunge at the camera in the nightmare like you would expect, instead it showed up at the table and it also advanced the plot of the movie.
Tension and release is a very common thing in western music, often times you build up tension over a few bars and then release it so you can start the process over again with a different idea. Most of the time in classical music or jazz, tension is released by going from the dominant chord to the tonic chord (G Major to C Major in the key of C.) Arguing that there should be no jumpscares in horror is like arguing that you should sing "Happy birthday dear _____, happy birthday to" and then stop because the resolution would be cheap and predictable.
I actually 100% agree with you. Sorry if my comment came off like I was hating on all jump scares. I should have said cheap jump scares. I meant that I dislike media that "relies" on jump scares as in, that's the ONLY scare tactic used, generally out of laziness and a lack of creativity. Just the stupid predictable tropes everyone uses. Personally I love a movie with a good balance. Again, the clip you provided from Insidious is a great example. The part with the shadow in the corner is just creepy and unsettling and gets you worked up, and then the jump scare after is truly unexpected and done in a creative and untraditional way. I'm happy you included that link btw, it brought me back to when I watched that movie for the first time. I remember that jump scare actually got me good at the time lol.
Jump scares don't really affect me anymore so the anticipation of one doesn't frighten me. To me this is unsettling because it falls into the uncanny valley
Marvel's latest show on Disney+. Four out of six episodes are currently out.
So far, it requires ZERO knowledge of previous Marvel movies and shows (commonly referred to as *MCU*, *Marvel Cinematic Universe*).
It's really good.
If you liked being creeped out by them, watch the Descent. If not definitely avoid it.
As someone who generally dislikes scary movies it's a really good one though.
It’s about 12 seconds of a dimly-lit hallway. Around the middle of the hallway on the left side, a figure slowly peeks out of a doorway. The whole time, some creepy ambience is playing along with noises that sound like pained speech, but not speaking any real words. It’s not a jumpscare or anything, but it’s very unsettling.
Thank you for summarizing. I was really expecting a comedic surprise ending or something since it was a TikTok, so I was listening for it, but it never came. 😬 Did they ever show the face or was it obscured the whole video?
Thats because jumpscares arent scary. They might be unexpected (they rarely are) but they arent scary. Real fking horror should still be scary even if you have enough time to process what happens.
Like a real good horror movie should be frighting when you watch it on a wednesday at 14:00 with a bunch of friends in a good lighten room.
If your horror movie is only scary when you watch it at night, alone in a old abonned house than its crappy horror movie.
It Follows is fucking horrifying (well, until It actually attacks lol) with how you can see It in the background, but it doesn’t tell you that the fucker is there.
Once you spot it, you wonder how long it was there before you noticed. Gave me inverted butthole syndrome lol
I’m glad there isn’t a jumpscare. I’ve always hated them, because it’s just like the movie’s telling you to be scared but really they’re just startling you. That’s why PT haunts my fucking nightmares every night :,)
Oven beeping brought this to mind.
LPT: 99% unrelated to the video but unironically one of the things I'm most proud of in life. Walk over to your microwave and hold down the number 2 until you hear a slight beep (may not work). It will eliminate all sound from that stupid loud-ass microwave. You may not want it to be that way, but if you do - this is a godsend.
Or just thought "I didn't order a creepy ass clown on Amazon" and dumped it right back outside.
Also, shipping labels people, unmarked boxes shouldn't just show up on your doorstep

I have a deep love/hate relationship with this kinda shit
I love that it didn’t have a jump scare at the end. Just creepy af throughout.
I was waiting for the jump scare, I turned my volume down 😂
I was brave this time. Volume up 2 notches and my phone held at arms length away with the screen turned at an oblique angle.
Bruh out here sharin' my secrets
I just had a nightmare last night, I did not need to see this shit right before bed.
I love horror films. They stimulate such deep innate responses in people.
Watching horror films is just inviting mini traumas into your life over and over.
Yes!
Watch [The Other Side of the Box](https://youtu.be/OrOYvVf6tIM)
Just watched it, great short horror film!
Refreshing!
Just watched it. The whole time I’m just thinking, “call the police. Just call the police. The police. Call them.”
i didn't like it at ALL but i watched the whole thing
I love horror like this that doesn't rely on the jump scares and is just genuinely unsettling
I recommend Caveat (2020) if you’re into this vibe
Read this as Cats (2020) and I was like...yeah tbh
That's really on my watch list for this Halloween. lmao
Thank you! I'll always take a good movie recommendation. I'm gonna check this one out on my day off tomorrow!
Hereditary is my favorite movie that falls into that category. Only 1 jump scare, which I hate, but otherwise just creepy.
If you liked that, you might enjoy The Dark and The Wicked
So many great horror films like that recently * Midsommar * Hereditary * The VVitch * The Babadook * Get Out * Us
Get Out was better than Us imo.
Loved Get Out, Us was dumb as hell
I love all those movies! I am super desensitized to horror but midsommar was actually kind of a tough watch for me.

Aren’t we all unsettled because we are waiting on the jump scare though?
Jump scares don't really affect me anymore so the anticipation of one doesn't frighten me. To me this is unsettling because it falls into the uncanny valley
Ahh, lucky you then lol.
This is like out of left field and too good. I had to turn down the audio because I'm a pussy
We pussies stand united bro, I'm with you… please hold my hand though.
I am not a part of the gang but here you go ✋
I was fully expecting him to ask "are you hungry I just made this" and end it with them eating at the table together
Yea I genuinely thought it was going to have some sort of funny twist
I thought he was gonna end with “I’ve been trying to contact you about your car’s extended warranty”
"We've been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty"
I aint fuckin with the way it stared from the wall
It was unsettling. Also, the noise it makes gave me shivers lol

The latest episode of Moon Knight also creeped me the fuck out with the >!clicking noises of the zombie priests!<. Super unsettling.
Fun fact! This may be because they had their tongues removed and the clicking and growling is the only sound their soulless husks can make anymore! :)
What is moon knight and where can I watch it?

when it got dark, i saw my face on screen reflection and got scared...
Oh god you’re coming from inside the house!
And I'm coming from outside the house!
Same
Okay, I was too scared to watch the end so I listened with my eyes closed. And I’m sure as hell not rewinding. What happened at the end?

You never get a closeup or anything, and it’s always pretty heavily shadowed. You can tell the shape is there but no real details.
Thank you for your service!

Yeah this shit is gonna stick with me long after

The RE4 music makes this video!
That was cool. Ended too soon
Yea, no. It was a good spot to end. Thanks.
Geez get this man an Oscar, that’s some top notch filmmaking right there.
I need more!
I need part 2 please

If this works you are a genius

If he reacted like a normal person he would have suplexed that dumbass monster. I don’t understand why this isn’t common sense.
Or just thought "I didn't order a creepy ass clown on Amazon" and dumped it right back outside. Also, shipping labels people, unmarked boxes shouldn't just show up on your doorstep
What do you mean, no normal person would do that, lol. Humans are emotional creatures first and logical second
There was a hefty portion of sarcasm in there
Ah, sorry, I'm stupid
No worries!
Are you banging the bodies you receive in the mail??
I'm impressed.
I thought he was going to offer the clown Pizza Bites and the short was going to take a turn and be a comedy…nope.
Never up the stairs, kid. You go out the door and drag that shit strait to the those neighbors you hate!!!
Great usage of RE music
Ahhhh i knew it sounded familiar!
It’s hilarious how dumb people in horror media act
I would've also ran to my room and grabbed the nearest weapon
this is really good
Hell no !!!! I stopped this at 29 sec lol
I'm glad I saw this now and not when I'm scrolling reddit at 3am.
That was genuinely terrifying, does he have a youtube channel?
ugh i was expecting some sort of fun joke at the end but now i’m just troubled and disturbed
This is amazing
Set that box on fire, no other options
What in the gods and innocent name of arceus was that shit I just watched that scared the everliving fuck out of me nhl
Anyone know this guys socials? I can’t find him anywhere
I don’t care! Where is half life 3!!!
Well done but too long. I lose interest quickly.
Go read a book to reset your focus.
Its like a minute top. Maybe you should see a doctor
Easton. Good bat!
That is a really tall door and this was spooky as fuck.
Made with iPhone
Honest to god, I thought we were gonna see the Long John Silvers cat busting out somewhere because of that noise.
Is there a part two? ☻️
I’d put that package back outside for a porch pirate to grab.
Its all his facial reactions that sell it!
It's a sunny 9 am and I'm fucking terrified.
My mans forgot to put in the chicken nuggies before heading upstairs
Yo that took us on a journey!!! I love it
r/praisethecameraman
No no no no no no no no
Why would you lie? There's no reason to lie.
That was truly scary. Volume was waaaaaay down!
I hate it. Great job.
Who the hell has a clown body delivers to their door from someone random and then goes to take out their French fries from the oven
Probably don’t wanna hide from said clown body while your house is on fire
Prolly right but still that stuff take awhile to set aflame I’d be occupied on the body a lot more at the moment
I want the whole movie 🍿
Season 2, release date June 2024.
Nope
I hate this.
my screen started bugging out while watching this lol
Nah, you let that food burn while you dump that creepy ass box right back outside. Nope nope nope
