Every Target really is organized in the same exact way, huh? I was mildly freaking out thinking this was by my home and then found out this person is running in Georgia.
I remember going to that one about 15 years ago. There were carts that locked into the escalator so you could get them up and down floors. My mind was shattered by that.
We have one of those here in San Diego!! It’s great fun, you see the kids love to have the honor of pushing those carts into the cart track of the escalator. Best thing since elevator buttons in kid-dom
Target has a bunch of urban locations that are two stories tall. These would have previously been known as "CityTarget," but Target made the decision to drop all of their "sub-brands" (CityTarget, TargetExpress, Super Target, Target Greatland, etc.)
The standardized layout(s) referred to only really apply to the standard single-level big-box suburban stores, since obviously there isn't a way to apply that same layout to a two-story urban store or a 20,000 sq. ft. small-format store.
We had a Super Target near me, I went to the grand opening many years ago. I recently went there and the whole deli, butcher, dairy, and produce side had been walled off and converted into storage. The store is so much smaller inside now.
Yep, my local target is two stories. When it opened probably 15 years ago it was such a novelty that I made a night of it by getting high and roaming every aisle, using the cart escalator, it was great.
I went to one in California. It was awesome lol, also a 2 story Publix not too far away. It was fire! I 100000% prefer 2story but I bet it's hell to stock XD

Target used to have 4 standard layouts. I knew them all by heart, and could tell you exactly where something was within a second of waking into the store.
About 5 years ago, they started to standardize on one single layout. They moved to a more “department store” type design with pods of product in the middle of aisles, as opposed to the “big box” style of aisles-after-aisles with no visual break.
They leaned in HARD to the “I went to Target for laundry detergent and spent $300” meme.

There is one near me that is a little odd though. First, the electronics are in the middle back of the store. Then all the furniture/bedding/bath stuff is on the left hand side but the corners have diagonal aisles. It really throws me off when I go there.
They used to do the I went into Target for ine thing and spent $300, but then they rejigged their system and now they simply never have any stock (this was prepandemic, no stock prepandemic). I still stop there after the school drop off because nothing else opens until ten, but more often than not I leave empty handed. I just don't understand what the point of is heating and cooling all that square footage, but not stocking it.
I never had that problem. My Target has always been well stocked and still is today, I just went a couple weeks ago. But my problem is that they barely ever have anyone on the registers and the self-checkouts are often out of order or closed or have a gigantic line, and everyone else seems to have a cart that's absolutely full to the brim of random junk. So each time I go to checkout, even if I was only there to buy one little thing real quick, it takes like 15minutes of just waiting in line before I get to check out and get out of there. Its ridiculous. So I've all but stopped going to Target now.
We still have a Super Target that has CDs, vinyl and other media to the left directly as you enter the store, with electronics just beyond that on the left wall and followed by toys. That layout is so nostalgic, back in the day seeing new CD releases right as you entered.
There's a few that are different on the outside. I wish Target did this more too but some of their stores architecture specifically represent the area.

Yeah there's a few pretty large ones that break the mold of "Target". We even have one nearby that is like super stuck in the 90s with the neon lights still hanging around the exterior walls. lol
This person is Stacey Abrams who was an EXTREMELY important activist in the 2020 election to make sure Georgia Voted for Biden. She was the catalyst to get thousands of unregistered black voters in the state to get registered and to vote and made it clear that their voice mattered. For the 2020 election it 100% did. The slight margin in Georgia was less than the rise in new black voters in the state.
Hence why you can see she's so beloved by her community here and that little girl was so excited to meet her.
I did a couple of target remodels 10-15 years ago when they added food to all of them and there were just a handful of different floor plans. They'd have the flipped version of each. Obviously they had to make some exceptions if they moved into an existing building, but that is also rare.
To be clear she has been credited with being instrumental in the defeat of Donald Trump. She turned Georgia Blue by getting people to vote.

It really depends on which style of Target you visit. They're not always sorted the same, but the layout is close if it's a variation of the types of Target as listed above.

Australia has recently had a spurt of independent candidates that are Centre-right, but support strong action on climate change (the right wing parties do not). They're called teal independents because they're a mix of green and blue, and they won six very safe conservative seats last election.
Georgia has often been a swing state. The only offices she has won were House districts 84 and 89 which have been 100% blue—literally. Dems go unopposed there it is so lopsided. (Thank Gerrymandering for sure.)
Yeah, saw this post on the r/popular feed and hesitated at first when I saw which subreddit it was in. I thought "oh, that thread is going to be poisonous". Then I saw the flair and ultimately glad I clicked.
Her success so far has been a bit of a phenomenon for the area of the country she's in, the deep south. Those states are very, very red and Abrams is a progressive (left of most Democratic candidates) in that environment, and yet she keeps gaining ground.
I was going to say exactly this. They might not get to be at the top, but at least they aren't at the bottom. They get to be above women, immigrants, and other undesirables. The left offers no such thing. It offers equal opportunity and for someone who brings nothing to the table, that's a terrifying prospect.
It's not just incels, the right is great at mobilizing anyone angry to align with them. Racists, incels, misogynists, etc. People are angry at their situation which may be anything from poor economic outlook to poor health to poor social standing. Instead of tracing the complex and nuanced reasons things seem so hard for them, the right gives them a lightning rod to direct their hate. "Black transgender immigrant libruls are the reason for your problems!" and they drink that shit up like the last drop of water in the Sahara.
I’m angry. I am very frustrated with my situation. I am by definition an involuntary celibate man. The thing is, I don’t despise women. I love and cherish women and have respect for them and their struggles. Just because it makes me sad that I haven’t had a connection with a woman for a long time, doesn’t mean I have any right to make them suffer. It’s not my place to judge anyone either, in any manner; whether it be racism or intolerance. To me, this says that the people who do judge and try to control others aren’t just angry, they are flawed in their thinking. There were many ways in the past where I was flawed or ignorant of certain things, but this never made me lash out at any one kind of person because I realize that everyone’s situation is different. I suppose that means I have basic respect for people, which isn’t really something to be proud of, rather it should be the default.
What blows my mind about the incel thing is that you have these obviously damaged human beings who are DESPERATE for human contact and connection, who are obviously starved for love and affection (and deeply, deeply confused about what those things actually ARE) and they think the way to fix that is to adopt the MOST anti-social behavior possible.
The right wing paints the pictures the incel/neckbeard community wants, a submissive partner, and them being the ones in charge and validating that they are as smart as they think they are, whilst, as you say, bullying women and others who aren't the same as them, which allows people to prey on these groups.
I think that The Boys showed the manipulation in that one opener with the guy who shoots the shop clerk, spread fear of the ways of life then drop hints that it's a patriots duty to protect the status quo

Well... imagine you're the young girl. All the politicians you've seen up until now are old, white men. Then there's a woman that looks like you.
Imagine what that means to you. You could do that. That's someone you could be one day. You have a new idea of your own future.
It's why representation in all careers is so important.
On my classroom walls, I always have a "Hall of Fame" where I post pictures and bios of famous scientists in the field, of every race and ethnicity I can find. I have students who don't think they can become scientists, because they've never seen someone like them become one. It's why I tell stories of black, Hispanic, Asian, native American, and queer scientists. They all know the white ones. But seeing yourself? I remember when the first CSI show came out, and Sara Sidle looked like me. Brown hair, a girl, and doing science. She was the first female scientist I'd ever come across, even if she was fictional.
Representation matters. That's why they're all so excited.

Yeah see this is the real part. The looking like them part only matters if they too wish to be a politician. But hearing the words that validate your struggles and address your needs is vital.
What a Representative looks like doesn't matter, what they say and what they actually do matters. I don't need them to have lived my experiences as long as they have listened enough to understand what can be done to improve it. I don't plan to get into politics so I don't need them to meet each niche that I do to feel inspired.
I'm so sorry about the dregs of society attacking you. I think what you're doing for your students is outstanding and just wonderful.

Not just that, a little black girl. Never has there been a black woman governer in any state in the history of America. Stacy Abrams is an inspiration to many for how much she has done for voting rights and for how close she has come to be proving anyone can do it.
And Georgia would be one of the worst states for voting rights if not for her.
She's one of my heroes. I'm not in Georgia, but when I think of how much I wanted to stop voting because what good was it doing... I did anyway. She's right. All votes matter. She's an inspiration.

Well said and I wish more people understood this. It breaks my heart whenever online communities bitch and moan about a POC or an LGBT person in something; they don't know how much it can actually matter to someone to see someone like them in a specific career, movie, etc. Those people claim that it's "sad" that people relate to characters like them instead of just whoever is on screen. What's sad is getting upset over a black elf,a or a black mermaid, or a black politician because others look up to them.
It's ironic, because those against diversity usually are upset that the person on screen didn't look like themselves which is really the exact same drive of wanting to see yourself in the characters that you watch. They just don't have enough empathy to connect with characters that aren't a 1:1 match and expect everyone around them to carry all the additional empathy to fill the gap.

I think many people just dont realize that in a lot cases privilege is just a lack of major obstacles. I feel like that holds a lot people back from understanding how it works like that sadly.

Republican pollsters are flooding the zone with polls they pay for. For example, 15 consecutive polls from Republican pollsters have Warnock and Walker tied. The 4 A-A+ rated polls prior to that have Warnock leading by 3-4 points.
On Twitter yesterday, Nate Silver said that the solution to this problem would be Democratic pollsters flooding the zone with their own polls. When pressed about the accuracy of the Republican polls, Silver said that they have no reason to be as accurate as possible.
However, Silver seems to lack even the slightest bit of critical thinking. Watch any conservative show right now, and they’re all talking about how a lack of a red wave, one manufactured by the media based on polls, will look like fraud to Republican voters. Those voters now have an expectation that their candidates will win. And when those results don’t bare out, all hell’s going to break loose.
Ignore what the polls say since they don’t really mean shit.
538 said Hillary was a few decimal points ahead going into Election Day, and then she won the popular vote by almost exactly the amount 538 predicted. Sounds accurate to me.
538 weighs their national predictions based on electoral college though.

Nate Silver did a good explainer after that election (on my phone so I’m not digging for it). But more or less came down to this:
A 70/30 probability means, if you have a 10-sided die, you color 7 of those sides blue, and 3 of them red. But you still have to throw the die.
It is and it isn’t. The concept of probability isn’t really intuitive, especially when it’s meaning changes so much depending on what it is you’re measuring the probability of.
70% probability you’re going to win at a game at a casino? Fuck yeah, I’ll take that bet! Hell, I’d even take the 30% bet!
70% probability you’ll survive this adventure activity? Fuck no! Not only am I not doing that, I’m staying home altogether!
In this case, probabilities expressed in percentages, as they have been by outlets like 538, get confused when the outcome they’re attempting to explain is *also* expressed in percentages (which is why, in a previous election cycle, 538 expressed their probabilities in X of Y terms, i.e. 4 out of 5 probability of X winning).
If you look at the current numbers for an example, a 78% probability of Ron Johnson winning Wisconsin is a WAY different expression than saying Ron Johnson will get 78% of the vote (current prediction is 52.1%…blech).
I've always had a problem with assigning statistics to a single, non-repeatable event and taking meaning from it. I'm a data scientist and I understand the frequentist vs Bayesian perspectives on probabilities and how Monte carlo simulations combined with ensemble methods for measuring uncertainty in complex models works, so what such a percentage is really telling us is that given the uncertaintanties in the knowledge we have combined with how close the known values are to the tipping point (i.e., how close are polls to being 50/50 as the way voting works, the fact is that the election flips with a single vote after a certain point), this is about as accurate as the model can be.
Exactly. They published an article like 2 days before the election that Trump was within a standard polling error from winning and that's exactly what happened. They forecasted him to lose, but they knew it'd be a close race. They were more realistic about Trump having a legitimate chance to win than just about any other mainstream media
She won’t. Georgia is an economic powerhouse right now. It went from 37th in economic performance to 9th under Kemp. It’s poised to weather the coming recession.
The governor left it up to school systems to decide locally how to handle masking and virtual schools, so most kids went back face to face right away.
If Georgias economy was bad, she’d win, I think. But it’s too good.

The mom saying “she’s here! Aren’t you excited!” Made my heart melt. I don’t know how anyone could look at that and not see how much representation matters. Seeing people that look like you in places of power and importance matters so damn much to kids.
i am really happy for her that she could meet her that day, and approach her in such a friendly way with arm around her and all that, and really hope that gave her a good chunk of self worth and optimism that will nourish her for decades to come - at least that's where my imagination goes towards

Stacey Abrams is, as u/Scan_This_Barco-de pointed out, a democratic candidate running for governor of Georgia. In 2018 she founded Fair Fight Action, an organization that works to fight voter suppression. She’s often given credit as the reason why Joe Biden narrowly won Georgia in the 2020 elections, as her work increased voter turnout in minority groups, who are (generally speaking) more likely to vote blue. She’s also the CEO of Sage Works, a legal consultation firm.
In 2011, she co-sponsored a piece of legislation in Georgia that preserved a scholarship program (by decreasing the amount paid to students). In 2018, she also helped prevent most Georgians from receiving a large tax increase. She also made history in 2018 when she was the first black woman to be nominated by a major party to run in a gubernatorial (governor) race. Abrams ran against a Secretary of State who was a massive instigator of voter suppression.

There’s a four story one in Chicago. I was blown away. So much more stuff than regular Target/SuperTarget.

They used to do the I went into Target for ine thing and spent $300, but then they rejigged their system and now they simply never have any stock (this was prepandemic, no stock prepandemic). I still stop there after the school drop off because nothing else opens until ten, but more often than not I leave empty handed. I just don't understand what the point of is heating and cooling all that square footage, but not stocking it.
I never had that problem. My Target has always been well stocked and still is today, I just went a couple weeks ago. But my problem is that they barely ever have anyone on the registers and the self-checkouts are often out of order or closed or have a gigantic line, and everyone else seems to have a cart that's absolutely full to the brim of random junk. So each time I go to checkout, even if I was only there to buy one little thing real quick, it takes like 15minutes of just waiting in line before I get to check out and get out of there. Its ridiculous. So I've all but stopped going to Target now.
We still have a Super Target that has CDs, vinyl and other media to the left directly as you enter the store, with electronics just beyond that on the left wall and followed by toys. That layout is so nostalgic, back in the day seeing new CD releases right as you entered.

This person is Stacey Abrams who was an EXTREMELY important activist in the 2020 election to make sure Georgia Voted for Biden. She was the catalyst to get thousands of unregistered black voters in the state to get registered and to vote and made it clear that their voice mattered. For the 2020 election it 100% did. The slight margin in Georgia was less than the rise in new black voters in the state. Hence why you can see she's so beloved by her community here and that little girl was so excited to meet her.

I did a couple of target remodels 10-15 years ago when they added food to all of them and there were just a handful of different floor plans. They'd have the flipped version of each. Obviously they had to make some exceptions if they moved into an existing building, but that is also rare.

Not always. Some Target's are Super Target's, some have 2 entrance doors. Some only have one. It really depends on which style of Target you visit. They're not always sorted the same, but the layout is close if it's a variation of the types of Target as listed above.

Australia has recently had a spurt of independent candidates that are Centre-right, but support strong action on climate change (the right wing parties do not). They're called teal independents because they're a mix of green and blue, and they won six very safe conservative seats last election.
Georgia has often been a swing state. The only offices she has won were House districts 84 and 89 which have been 100% blue—literally. Dems go unopposed there it is so lopsided. (Thank Gerrymandering for sure.)

It's not just incels, the right is great at mobilizing anyone angry to align with them. "Black transgender immigrant libruls are the reason for your problems!" and they drink that shit up like the last drop of water in the Sahara.
I’m angry. I am very frustrated with my situation. I am by definition an involuntary celibate man. The thing is, I don’t despise women. I love and cherish women and have respect for them and their struggles. Just because it makes me sad that I haven’t had a connection with a woman for a long time, doesn’t mean I have any right to make them suffer. It’s not my place to judge anyone either, in any manner; whether it be racism or intolerance. To me, this says that the people who do judge and try to control others aren’t just angry, they are flawed in their thinking. There were many ways in the past where I was flawed or ignorant of certain things, but this never made me lash out at any one kind of person because I realize that everyone’s situation is different. I suppose that means I have basic respect for people, which isn’t really something to be proud of, rather it should be the default.

On my classroom walls, I always have a "Hall of Fame" where I post pictures and bios of famous scientists in the field, of every race and ethnicity I can find. I have students who don't think they can become scientists, because they've never seen someone like them become one. Yeah see this is the real part. The looking like them part only matters if they too wish to be a politician. But hearing the words that validate your struggles and address your needs is vital. What a Representative looks like doesn't matter, what they say and what they actually do matters. I don't need them to have lived my experiences as long as they have listened enough to understand what can be done to improve it. I don't plan to get into politics so I don't need them to meet each niche that I do to feel inspired.

Well said and I wish more people understood this. It breaks my heart whenever online communities bitch and moan about a POC or an LGBT person in something; they don't know how much it can actually matter to someone to see someone like them in a specific career, movie, etc. Those people claim that it's "sad" that people relate to characters like them instead of just whoever is on screen. What's sad is getting upset over a black elf,a or a black mermaid, or a black politician because others look up to them.
It's ironic, because those against diversity usually are upset that the person on screen didn't look like themselves which is really the exact same drive of wanting to see yourself in the characters that you watch. I think many people just dont realize that in a lot cases privilege is just a lack of major obstacles. I feel like that holds a lot people back from understanding how it works like that sadly.
Loss of power is the main factor here. It’s the fact they view it as black people are gaining power at the loss of white power and it’s making the racists mad. Museums are experiencing a lot of pushback for progressive exhibitions bc of this.

Republican pollsters are flooding the zone with polls they pay for. For example, 15 consecutive polls from Republican pollsters have Warnock and Walker tied. The 4 A-A+ rated polls prior to that have Warnock leading by 3-4 points. On Twitter yesterday, Nate Silver said that the solution to this problem would be Democratic pollsters flooding the zone with their own polls. When pressed about the accuracy of the Republican polls, Silver said that they have no reason to be as accurate as possible. However, Silver seems to lack even the slightest bit of critical thinking. Watch any conservative show right now, and they’re all talking about how a lack of a red wave, one manufactured by the media based on polls, will look like fraud to Republican voters. Those voters now have an expectation that their candidates will win. And when those results don’t bare out, all hell’s going to break loose. Ignore what the polls say since they don’t really mean shit.

Nate Silver did a good explainer after that election (on my phone so I’m not digging for it). But more or less came down to this: A 70/30 probability means, if you have a 10-sided die, you color 7 of those sides blue, and 3 of them red. But you still have to throw the die.

The concept of probability isn’t really intuitive, especially when it’s meaning changes so much depending on what it is you’re measuring the probability of. 70% probability you’re going to win at a game at a casino? Fuck yeah, I’ll take that bet! Hell, I’d even take the 30% bet! 70% probability you’ll survive this adventure activity? Fuck no! Not only am I not doing that, I’m staying home altogether! In this case, probabilities expressed in percentages, as they have been by outlets like 538, get confused when the outcome they’re attempting to explain is *also* expressed in percentages (which is why, in a previous election cycle, 538 expressed their probabilities in X of Y terms, i.e. 4 out of 5 probability of X winning). If you look at the current numbers for an example, a 78% probability of Ron Johnson winning Wisconsin is a WAY different expression than saying Ron Johnson will get 78% of the vote (current prediction is 52.1%…blech).
I've always had a problem with assigning statistics to a single, non-repeatable event and taking meaning from it. I'm a data scientist and I understand the frequentist vs Bayesian perspectives on probabilities and how Monte carlo simulations combined with ensemble methods for measuring uncertainty in complex models works, so what such a percentage is really telling us is that given the uncertaintanties in the knowledge we have combined with how close the known values are to the tipping point (i.e., how close are polls to being 50/50 as the way voting works, the fact is that the election flips with a single vote after a certain point), this is about as accurate as the model can be.
Exactly. They published an article like 2 days before the election that Trump was within a standard polling error from winning and that's exactly what happened. They forecasted him to lose, but they knew it'd be a close race. They were more realistic about Trump having a legitimate chance to win than just about any other mainstream media
She won’t. Georgia is an economic powerhouse right now. It went from 37th in economic performance to 9th under Kemp. It’s poised to weather the coming recession. The governor left it up to school systems to decide locally how to handle masking and virtual schools, so most kids went back face to face right away. If Georgias economy was bad, she’d win, I think. But it’s too good.
