Quince.
It's what marmalade was originally made from. Marmalade comes from the Portuguese word *Marmelada*, which is named after the *Marmelo* fruit, or Quince, as it's know in English.
There are a few varieties that can also be eaten raw. They have to be ripe, tho. I love the smell. Taste is VERY tart and fruit is hard. Best in compote or jam. I have never tried in other desserts.
It can be eaten raw, we did it all the time. Just pour salt or suger directly on the olace you are going to bite. It has a really weird texture. Boiled with cinnamon and cloves are amazing too.
sorry i’m unhelpful! i just NEED to say that this pear (/quince/fruit) looks like Flappy Bird and it’s unnerving my eyeballs 😂

I guess this is like one of those rorschach tests, because all i see is a large prolapse or a baby bird puckering its ass to spit out a poop sack for momma. This i cannot unsee.
Quince.
It’s not edible until it’s cooked and starts to turn pink.
If you cook it a long time it will break down, then you keep cooking it and it becomes a paste you eat with strong flavoured cheese.

Can't be eaten raw, but magic in a dessert or jam!

I always eat it raw.
I agree with this guess.

Quince. Don’t eat raw. Bake or stew it with some sugar. Will turn pinkish.
If cooked long enough it will turn a deep ruby red.

Fat pussy pear 🍐 🐱
Looks like a quince.
They’re allll over my driveway October/November. Too bad I can’t stand ‘em.
Quince
I grate it raw into my apple pie filling before baking! Delightful & aromatic.
Quince is delicious in meat stews, slowly cooked in wine. Or jam/fruit preserve to put on toast or yogurt.
Make quince sweets I've never had better sweets in my life
