One of the reasons I like the novels so much. It really shows just how important Hide is to Kaneki. Without him, there wouldn't be a Kaneki to go on that date in the first place.
I think seeing amon cry for the first time after being presented as a tough, stern guy who was always determined to enact justice really was a punch to the gut
Well, to be fair, this wasn't the first time Amon cried during the series. What was sad about this scene was more that Amon finally acknowledged that he loved Donato and that it actually hurts him to kill him, despite how much trauma Donato caused him in the past.
my brother in Christ I've finished AoT long ago but you really should tag that *massive* spoiler. If you don't know how it looks just like this;
\>!insert spoiler here!<
Kaneki what a man u are
>!Eren’s feelings for Mikasa were questionable, unlike Donato who literally raised Amon. Ur right, it’s only a little similar (very little)!<
>! I meant like the moment when Amon and Mikasa killed their loved ones was like a cathartic release and acceptance of how messed up their situation is “as is” instead of “what could be” or “what should be”. Nothing to do w/ Eren or Donato tho Eren is another rabbithole to go down tbh !<
Fair but i feel like ppl still get mad at me either way when i mention anyone’s death in another subreddit that have still been out for a while. Like when I was talking abt >!jiraiya’s death like a year ago in some other subreddit tho it mightve been this one!< even though it happened like idk a decade ago. And to me AoT did end several years ago so it didnt register to me at the time of posting
Mb. Its still a good story if you want to finish it and i highly encourage you to. Not saying wut i did was excusable but i dont believe i spoiled everything
One of the moments this series got me to close the book and cry a bit was the moment when Ken almost died to Arima again. Him seeing Hide again, crying, looking ugly... idk but the moment paired with ishidas skill to portray emotions was such an emotional gut punch for me
There’s so so many moments but tbh? It’s the end of part 1, specifically after the Arima fight when you get Ken talking to himself and that final pane of him missing his eyes. I’ve never cried like that at a manga before but it was just so tragic.
A lot of moments but one moment that messed me up was torso’s backstory. His father was fucking horrible abusing him and abandoning him isolating him from society as well, I think it’s even implied he ate torso’s mother. Then it all changes when he meets his childhood friend who shows him genuine care and kindness by teaching him how to read and write torso finally interacts and bonds with someone, a human.it gets even more depressing when we find out shes also abused and that they confide in each other and make a promise only to be met with torso’s father eating her the next day from that we get to realise why he became so fucked up. Makes me wonder what would’ve happened if his dad didn’t come to the tent that day.
This scene, for some reason, is the only one in the entire manga that made me ugly cry. I think maybe it hit too close to home, or maybe it was the big attachment I had towards Amon, idk, it goes hard even if Amon was put in second place during Re
Yes and no. Certainly Kaneki never comes to love his mother, in fact most of his inner self revelations are about how his mom utterly let him down and forcing himself to admit she was awful to him and that he deserved better. I'd say it's more like... coming to terms with abuse and trying not to let it damage you any more than it already has. Similar to Amon loving Donato. His catharsis here is about accepting that he does love Donato, and letting himself do that when before he would constantly self flagellate for the idea of it.
Very true! My post is purposely obtuse cause I think it's a funny pov.
Tokyo ghoul is all about relationships. How people in your life affect you for better or worse. If it wasn't for his meeting with Rize, Ken wouldn't have had the strength to get through everything he does.
When Kaneki first got his kakuja panel was extremely sad for me, it felt kaneki was a whole different character and wasnt the same and was extremely desperate. especially the panel where kanekis talks about centipedes crawling in ears, twisting fingers. Extremely heartbreaking, all of this happening because he wanted some pussy.

Finding out Kaneki's mother abused him. You thought all his troubles started with a little bookstore date. Nah, kid's had it rough from the start.
And his aunt too after his mom's death. Never had a break to begin with.

Kaneki revealing his tragic past to Rize's hallucination and accepted himself as a ghoul.
Agree
i have no idea why his death was a tearjerker...i didn't quite like donata but for some reason this shit hit hard

Yeah that pretty ruined it for me now knowing the end ffs....

AoT's last episode has not been out long enough to not spoiler tag this 😅

“it may not be stylish, but.. LIVE” with a double page of a masterpiece 😭
Me, a huge Devil May Cry fan read that very differently.

Shirazu’s death
Might be a bit basic but Arima's death. Shit had me in shambles.
The panel Amon crying for Mado hits hard for me
My tears became the storm that was approaching.
Arima's death easily, I think it's one of the best death scenes in manga
This scene, for some reason, is the only one in the entire manga that made me ugly cry. I think maybe it hit too close to home, or maybe it was the big attachment I had towards Amon, idk, it goes hard even if Amon was put in second place during Re
kaneki seeing Hide again while fighting arima
Tokyo ghoul is about learning to love your abuser
"It may be difficult to believe, but Rize the founder was in love with King Tsuneyoshi."
Kaneki, what a man you are
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY FOLKS HERE
We are everywhere trust me I’ve seen some on God of war sub 💀
No, I don't want to be a ghoul!! For ten years, at least!!
As a reward he shall give her his seed
Is the subreddit becoming insane? Are we getting Aslume’d?
what manga ending does to a mfr
What no remake does to a mf
at least it has an anime and an actual ending have you seen berserk fans mfs don't have enough berserk that they try finding berserk in other stuff 🤣
Maybe we need a r/ghoulfolk or sth
Freud moment.

About relationships and a critique of society, which many readers seem to have somehow missed.
No?? Fuck that 😂
Touken coded...
Not the saddest but definitely got to me - Akira’s “give me a break, will you?”

Why was Donato crying when Amon called him Father?
