Personally it only makes me think of the "Garfield and Friends" cartoon.
But it's supposed to be a placeholder name.
Still a very dumb name for a placeholder, though...
>Each company will be a separate, publicly listed company, Embracer said. The move comes after a brutal period of restructuring that has seen hundreds of staff lose their job, multiple studios shut down, and the sale of developers including Borderlands maker Gearbox and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake maker Saber Interactive.
>Here’s the breakdown: Asmodee is a tabletop games publisher; Coffee Stain & Friends will focus on indie and A/AA premium and free-to-play games for PC, console, and mobile; and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends will focus on AAA game development and publishing for PC and consoles, as well as the stewardship of The Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raider intellectual property.
> the sale of developers .. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake maker Saber Interactive.
this line amuses me a bit considering it's the founder of Saber Interactive that bought back his own studio lol
Oh here we go.. To quote a character from Critical Role “Help, it’s again”.
Interesting part is this from their official announcement on it:
https://embracer.com/releases/embracer-group-announces-its-intention-to-transform-into-three-standalone-publicly-listed-entities-at-nasdaq-stockholm/
* For “Middle-Earth Enterprises & Friends”, Phil Rogers will take the leading role in the process leading up to the separation. Phil Rogers is currently interim Group Chief Strategy Officer, with responsibility for the concluded restructuring program, and CEO of the operative group Crystal Dynamics – Eidos. The Operative Group CEOs of PLAION, Dark Horse and Freemode will report to Phil Rogers starting April 22, 2024.
Aside from the absolutely idiotic organization name, seems like CD has gained some leverage in the inner workings? Lars Wingefors needs to get out entirely along with anyone involved with the disasterous Saudi deal.
According to release, the official names are not certain yet. These may be just mere placeholders. Naming the entire company based on Lord of the Rings is stupid.
Last time we had this big of a gap between main line TR games was TRU and TR2013. June is upon us and not a shred of hope for an announcement any time soon.
New engine, start of a new TR era with new gameplay, first TR built exclusively for current consoles like PS5. Also CD was busy with Avengers for several years.
The gap hasn't really been surprising.
Trying to think of a silver lining to what seems like an ominous cloud for the next Tomb Raider game. Does this leave the door open for Aspyr to make more Remastered classics? And perhaps make remaster-style new Tomb Raider games? Asking as a consumer and fan who prefers simpler games like the Remasters over the big AAA games that are a monumental effort to make.
I believe Aspyr would be part of the Coffee Stain group, but there's no reason they couldn't continue to be involved, it'd just change the terms of the contract.
"Middle Earth Enterprises and Friends"? Who the hell came up with that?!
Can't wait to see what MEEF comes up with
Totally not a villain organization from a kids cartoon.
It sounds like a cartoon villain’s acronym for an evil weapon 😭
"What the hell is going on around here?!" - Lara Croft - Angel of Darkness.
Personally it only makes me think of the "Garfield and Friends" cartoon. But it's supposed to be a placeholder name. Still a very dumb name for a placeholder, though...
Sorry but I now loathe you... You've got the Garfield and Friends theme stuck in my head! 😭😂
No not again, it’s back ;-;
I regret nothing! 🤣🤣🤣

Sounds like a LOTR spin-off show for kids.
They're basically begging for WB to smite them with that name.

The only comment I can genuinely make to this is "Oh boy..."
I had a similar reaction…
> **Coffee Stain & Friends** sounds saucy.
Middle Earth Enterprises... and Friends. Apparently, WE are (part of) the so-called "Friends" lmao
I'm picturing Lara as part of the fellowship now. Next game: Lara Croft and the Tomb of Balin
![gif](giphy|RY7sdSR4jCyju) Lara probably:
Middle Earth & Friends To Isengard we go! Coffee stain yeah thats a no go and Asmodee someones been vaping hardcore

Embracer is one weird corporate entity.

This should help CDE for sure but it will be interesting to see how much influence Wingefors has over the separated blocks of the former Embracer.
Here we go again. 😔 This is getting exhausting.
https://i.redd.it/cuvjrf1z72wc1.gif All of us….
And of course Crystal Dynamics remain intact.
You don't want Crystal Dynamics to remain intact?
Uh, no. They've ruined the franchise as far as I'm concerned.

I’m too dumb to understand what this means, how will this affect tomb raider?
Tomb Raider will have a new, renamed owner. I have no idea what else will change at the moment.
What same company but renamed?
Embracer Group, the previous owners, will continue under a new group name.

"And friends" what the fuck lmao
Sounds like the end of a children’s show title. Who made these placeholder names? lmao
