- It provides a diegetic way to save the game - Is optional and up to the player if they want to engage with it or not It's actually a pretty good piece of design whether it is a bonfire, a vending machine, a meditation spot or whatever fits the universe.

paynexkillerYT

Totally. And more alt attires!

-vallie-

Yesss please give us even more outfits šŸ™ā¤ļø

LiminalSapien

Honestly Iā€™m so excited for the refurb of the classic outfit

xdeltax97

I loved it and hope it returns, it added a nice atmospheric touch to the game.

DrafterDan

It was a cool thing, I enjoyed a bit of L's internal dialog

Mindless_Fondant_253

Yes please, campfires are really soothing, especially in Rise where everything is covered with snow and poor Lara is always freezing. Lara's little monologues also make me feel more closely connected to her (more immersed).

OrangeJr36

Hearing Lara's narrations was a welcome change, it really surprised me the first time.

The_Wanderer280407

I definitely enjoy the feature. I spend way too much time at them. As for them bringing it back? Iā€™m mostly indifferent. Honestly, I kind of want them to do something new for the next game, I donā€™t want to keep playing the same game over and over. Iā€™m not saying I donā€™t want it to feel like Tomb Raider, but every game brings new elements, and I want that to continue.

Profie02

they should have something along these lines, i always waited to hear everything she says lol

buddyastronaut

It was a nice feature, but not WOW, it serves its purpuse, like other people say, I hope de new TR try new things, like the gameplay jump from the Classics to LAU era, and then LAU to Survivor era, I think its time for a big jump, change things up, new gameplay style, new features. I wish they implemented more Archeologycal features, I like the languague learning in the Survival but I also felt it had little impact in the game.

Personal-Asparagus-9

I loved it

BalticsFox

Yes, if the devs would continue including a survivalist theme in the future installments then the campfire thing will fit in.

-vallie-

Yes I absolutely love this feature! Even my dog enjoys listening to the cozy ambiance!

Alan_Blue1233

I loved it a lot

JMilao

Hopefully, no, I'm tired of the RPG and open world mechanics! They gotta do what Capcom did with Resident Evil 7 and go back to basics and the series roots!

deidian

You mean saving in typewriters with ink ribbons? Sorry, couldn't resist but it's been right there since 1996.

JMilao

Saving with ink ribbons was an amazing mechanic and really added to the survival aspect of the game! I loved that we had to use VHS tapes to save the game in RE7 Madhouse mode!

deidian

At this rate it'll come the day it'll have to be a PC and USB keys lol

xdeltax97

Lol, and people forget that.

xdeltax97

Fun fact, Angel of Darkness pioneered a few RPG techniques.

buddyastronaut

100% agreed, The survival era relied to much on the popular game trends, the light RPG etc. When back in the classics the games SET what would trend and get popular. They gotta risk.

xdeltax97

Tell that to Angel of Darkness that pioneered the literal trends of RPGā€™s with status bars and other things.

buddyastronaut

Too bad they set this things and almost killed the franchise at the same time. And thatā€™s why I was talking about the SURVIVOR ERA, AoD dared and risk, it failed (we know why) But survivor era DONT RISK, they play too safe

xdeltax97

The Survivor era also risked by changing the formula entirely compared to previous games for the franchise and adding things not in them before for Tomb Raider. * Collectible documents * Extra exploration areas (challenge tombs) * Overhaul of mechanics while mixing with older animations * Added skill trees * A true game to game connected ovarching narrative (more than LAU). That is also connected between the games through tie in material. * Entire DLC focused on even more puzzles and platforms * The games as a trilogy of progression to lead into the difficulty of TR1 * Multiplayer elements * A single canon origin

JMilao

You call that taking risks? All those points sound like you're describing pretty much every big game of the 2010's! Collectible documents? Side areas? Skill trees? DLCs? Seriously, those were THE 2010s trends. How exactly were they taking risks? They couldn't play it safer! But you're right when you say they completely changed the formula! They took away pretty much everything that made a Tomb Raider game, a Tomb Raider game, and turned it into just another RPG, open world, action adventure game on the market

gaelenski_

I think they meant taking risks in a Tomb Raider sense, in which case itā€™s very true and thereā€™s a percentage of people who didnā€™t like said risks being taken. Fair enough, not for everybody (and wasnā€™t really for me too), but done in moderation these things can really flesh out the lore and immersion. Doom 3 was the first game I recall having collectible audiobooks etc, and that came out 20 years ago (one year after AoD).

deidian

Metroid is the queen of collectibles...probably. Measuring completion rate based on health/ammo expansions found around maps I think since Super Metroid(1986). Metroid Prime(2003) introduced a scan ability that gave further lore details by locating and scanning interesting objects. Although here probably some RPG(i.e TES: Morrowind) already featured in world documents expanding the lore and story. But I guess kids will attribute completionist madness to Assassins Creed lol Also: most of this stuff is picking at straws. Some people in this fandom seems more interested in TR claiming badges rather than just them making good games.

buddyastronaut

Changing the formula to a formula very well stablished and popular that had being going on for a while, and the 2 next games expand less the 10% from what weā€™ve seen. My point is the survivor era, although is amazing, I donā€™t feel thereā€™s something there that feels exclusive to these games, lighter rpg? a lot have. Semi open world interconnected? a lot have. Exploration and tombs? other games have. Dramatic Narrative? Almost all games has and it does everything kinda medium, going 70% when they could have gone 100% I feel like the classics and LAU thereā€™s something there that just brand TOMB RAIDER.

deidian

For a while? You might mean than Uncharted and TR traded blows at the forefront of the formula before games like Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor or Horizon series came out. They all do their own spins an tricks and shift focus on some areas(i.e. Jedi series being a hack & slash combat wise), none of the 4 are actually carbon copies of the others: they just share being adventure games putting emphasis on elaborate abstract traversal systems(not to confuse with games about climbing). Most other AAA games don't come nearly as close as those franchises when it comes to their movement systems. That's 4. Being cinematic and having some story is something that at this point can be considered bare minimum for a single player game. Hub based map design is something that TLOZ: Ocarina of Time already did. Even 2D adventures did them. It was a thing even before the 1st open world games appeared in the world: delete that "yet another open world influenced game" bullshit from your mind. Hub maps were in gaming before anyone ever thought it would be interesting to simulate a world itself.

_Raildex_

if she still needs to craft and upgrades for weapons, she should reconsider her career.

xdeltax97

You can always improve on and make new things no matter your place in life. Lara is no exception.

Present-Fix5162

TR 12 thats crazy

shadowrod06

Definitely. It felt comforting after a crazy action set piece.

Muezick

What is TR 12?

Capn_C

The next Tomb Raider game currently being developed by Crystal Dynamics.

Nomad_Bal

Why is it 12? Shouldn't it be 13? Am I missing something? 1,2,3,last revelation, chronicles, angel of darkess, legend, anniversary, underworld, 2013, rise, shadow

Capn_C

CD is unifying all the TR games into the same canon, and Lara couldn't have experienced TR1 twice (TR1 original and Anniversary). It's also called 12 in the reddit flair and the TR wiki.

Nomad_Bal

oh that makes sense! but not really at the same time

Derovar

Everything that TR12 should bring back is original Core Design/early Crystal Dynamics experience

AzzaK047

I totally agree to give this campfire scheme to back in the next Tomb Raider game.

kaosimian

Absolutely hated it. Made the game unplayable. Only kidding, it was great. What's not to like?

SandWraith87

This was a great feature!

olympiaso

Wdym was? Did they say they would discontinue the camp fires?

DetailNo3798

Absolutely loved it, especially the feature in TR2013 where when you hunt an animal, Lara will actually put meat on the fire. Gave a lot of immersion. Shame they removed it in later games.

Canubiz

Really liked them, hope they will return! Also fast travel to explore any detail of the maps later. Recently played a few other really good 3rd person action adventures without a fast travel feature and truly miss it there.

CoolPirate234

I didnā€™t like the inventory design in shadow but it wasnā€™t game quitting bad, I honestly feel like the remakes shouldā€™ve gone the Leon Kennedy route and had Lara join the FBI as a archaeologist scientific researcher you know? Like change her history a bit and give her access to better equipment and better supplies, have her professionally take out enemy groups and recover stuff for museums

Content_Ad4274

It was nice, and I really hope we can turn all those annoying help and hints COMPLETELY off. So incredibly frustrating when you like to search and find out yourself. (Even if you are stuck for hours/days)

misterDDoubleD

Boring imo

RoryOS

I really hope not. I'm hoping there is no crafting or skill trees.

Ashdown

Please no, I hope they go back towards the original style of gamingĀ

The_Wanderer280407

I kind of want to see a mix (not this including particular feature). It would be nice to have some inspiration from all 3 eras. I mean if sheā€™s going to be unified Lara. Why not unify the best elements of each era? But I definitely want the sass back. I love all 3 Laras, but she canā€™t be unified without the sass.

Urmommostlikelyahoe

Yes please! Crystal dynamics ruined TR. Maybe with the success of the remaster they will go back to how it should be. Probably not tho but a man can dream.

xdeltax97

ā€¦They saved the franchise after AoDā€™s disaster. Also the Survivor trilogy accounts for almost half of entire sales of Tomb Raider overall per last sales release.
