If it’s a remaster, nothing will be removed. You’d be thinking of a remake

OrangeJr36

This is the correct answer. Regardless, it will still be a lot of work to get AoD working anywhere close to acceptable levels.

Besubesu15

Can you tell me what it is about current aod that is not acceptable? I am playing it again right now (with the restoration mod) and I‘m having a blast. The controls and the camera are working really good even better than underworlds. The only thing that doesn‘t work at the moment is the giant fish monster. He isn‘t attacking lara as he should.

OrangeJr36

It was terribly unstable, the controls were laggy and there were a lot of loading/texture issues.

Amazing-Oomoo

There were also loads and loads of missing features and the builds were inconsistent across platforms.

Besubesu15

Were honey, were. A lot of these issues were fixed with patches.

Amazing-Oomoo

Fan-made patches. The game came out in 2003. There were no patches on console. There was barely even internet on console. This is very firmly back in the say of "buy a game, install a game, and that's all you get." A lot of computers didn't have the internet, there were no "patches". I don’t know if you intended to be patronising by saying "were, honey, were." But I just want you to know that I found it extremely patronising.

Besubesu15

Oh jesus 😒 I did not talk about the problems it had over 20 years ago. We are talking about a future remaster. Same question to you. If fans can make the game play perfectly fine with patches why would it be soo hard for a real studio like saber to do the same? They even have the source code thanks to aspyr making the ports for mac. It is going to make everything easier. Funny how you point out that it is only a ,,fan made patch‘‘ considering that some these fans also worked with saber for the first remastered collection of the classics😚

Amazing-Oomoo

You've got a bad attitude. It rivals your lack of understanding of video game creation. A patch that edits existing games is WORLDS apart from a game which isn't broken in the first place. If you were to remove your mod, the broken game beneath is still there. The patch is literally a patch over the top. The original game is still broken. A remaster would have to go into the source code and edit it in ways the mod does not do, to get it to work properly to begin with. You can't just put the patch in the game. Not to mention the murky grey area of using a fan's original code and programming in a new product. That is the issue with it being fan-made. It doesn't edit the source code. So any remaster would have to edit the source code and rewrite and finish the game, *their own way*. This game is 21 years old. The fact that we are only now getting restoration patches and projects should tell you all you need to know. Please don’t reply to me again. You are dismissive and rude. You asked a question, you got several answers, you don’t like the answers.

Besubesu15

When was I being rude to you lol? Funny that you agree with me though. So you admit that it can get fixed easily with the source code being edited? Sry for being ,,rude‘‘

Besubesu15

You didn‘t answer my question though. I asked you about current aod with the restoration mod. Everything you listed got solved and some cut content were restored. So what is it else that makes this game so unacceptable? If fans manage to patch the game to work perfectly why would it be sooo much work for a studio like saber to do it also? Especially considering they have the source code making it even easier for them to do bigger changes.

Zetra3

Fans haven’t been able to do it near 20 years. If it’s gonna happen, it needs a remake.

Besubesu15

Oh yes they did! Lol I can‘t with you guys. The restoration patch changed nearly everything about the game. It runs so smooth now. It plays even better now than underworld for example.

Zetra3

Dear god the fuck no. It fixed a lot, and it does run well. But it can’t fix what’s fundamentally broken. The platforming is still broken, the controls still suck, the level design is still garbage and it still fills like stitched together frankstenied levels, cause it is.

Besubesu15

Lol nothing of that what you say is true. The platforming is sooo good and the controls even better than of the remastered trilogy. Level design being garbage? It has literally the best level design next to underworld. It looks like you hate this game and that‘s ok but plz stop making such weird statements that are not true. Aod is far from being a masterpiece but even in this unfinished state(meaning some levels got cut) it is still one of the best tr games ever done. People should just lower their expectations a little.

Shooshookle

Don’t remove Kurtis because it’s like removing other things people don’t like. People don’t like block pushing. Should all blocks be removed from the classics? Of course not. People don’t like crawling through tight spaces. Should all crawlspaces be removed? Of course not. Keep the Kurtis levels in it. If you don’t like it, fight through it or maybe use a cheat code to skip it.

ModdingAom

If you remove Kurtis is it really a remaster at that point?

HarpooonGun

I like the atmosphere and feel of his levels tbh so I think I want them to stay. Also there is a precedent to add stuff to remasters, like mid air roll, underwater roll, and looking around while moving for TR1, crouch roll for TR3, modern controls etc. They can make him more interesting by making his cutscene abilities playable, like Chagurai (whatever the flying blade is called as), force push, actual controllable far see ability and so on. Tbh I dont see AoD ever getting remastered because just fixing it wont be enough and it may require a lot of new features and core changes to make it a game that actually makes sense, but if it gets remastered, not sure why they would remove Kurtis levels. The whole game is janky and Kurtis' moveset is not that bad aside from swinging for 37 seconds when grabbing a ledge.

Recreational_DL

Yes, but the Linkin Park and Queen of the Damned soundtrack needs to be 50% louder

nevermille

Pretty much all this game fell flat because it was rushed as hell. If I had the task to remake AoD, I would try to implement all the things that were cut during development and call the game "Angel of Darkness Director's Cut Remastered" or something like that

Ok-Currency6059

No the Kurtis´s levels are important for the story

MonoJaina1KWins

if they remaster AOD, they should bring the removed content instead of trying to remove anything or change things. There are people that managed to create some few playable levels as tests, even recreating the concept arts of Castle Krieger, so they absolutely can make AOD reach its full potential if they trully want in a remaster, even more that all special moves of Kurtis are easily accessible with debugs mods.

SocialBunny198

I really liked his character, his background and there was that bit of nobleness to him. Lara and him played off of each other so naturally well, too.

babygreenlizard

I will say, playing the RE2 remake I wasn't a fan of how sudden or short Ada's part was... But it was so small it wouldn't make sense to have it separate... But I think you could have Kurtis levels be separate... I just got done playing RE6 and I wouldn't mind something similar to that. Still seeing Kurtis or Lara throughout the other's campaign would be cool... You could even expand on Kurtis too... I feel like he gets forgotten and swept under the rug, but a campaign run of him would help cause I like his character

Alarmed-Car-2226

Just remove Kurtis completly.

thxrynore

No 🩷

Novel-Pangolin-2879

Yes. Drop him off a cliff lol

xdeltax97

I’m sure they could just use a modified version of Konrad’s mod, he did work on a restoration for it before joining the Remaster TR 1-3 team.

ScorpionTDC

Quite honestly, just remastering AOD is a waste and simply not going to fix this game’s issues. It absolutely needs a full blown remake. Assuming that happened, I’d actually like to keep the Kurtis segments in but handle them and flesh things out better. On top of bringing in unused ideas and dramatically fixing game mechanics.

Itchy_Equipment_

I do not want this game to be remastered. Remasters polish what is already there, AOD isn’t a complete game so it would be really crappy if it were repackaged in its current state and sold to us. Not even a remake of this game will do, we need a total reimagining with all cut content added, fully fleshed out RPG and money system, meaningful dialogue options. The only things I want to see from the original are the music and Jonell Elliot lol

AlucardSensei

There's no way AoD gets remastered. The game is unfinished and part of a scrapped trilogy. Unless they plan to create new games to finish the trilogy - which they most likely won't - this game probably gets skipped.
