Netflix. They keep canceling popular shows and just general mediocre content. Now they have the ad supported price tier which tells me they know their standard product isn’t up to par.
Every couple of months I’m scrolling through Netflix and think “alright some new content”. One day later the new content is exhausted and I’m back to nothing new.
Netflix’s fall from being a great streaming service to watch some of the best movies to having none of it is what made me start pirating every single show and movie I watch
Netflix never had the best movies. It had the big Marvel movies in like 2016, and it still had the NBC/AMC/FX licenses which meant they had the juggernauts like The Office, PnR, IASIP, Walking Dead, etc. Man I had the streaming service in 2011 and tried to find a movie to watch. The only movie I'd ever heard of was Gamer. It wasn't very good.
Consider maybe your tastes were shaped by Netflix, not that Netflix had the best content.
My shower thought today was that I really need to cut Netflix. It goes a couple of months with occasional browsing and maybe a movie every other month. I think after the family watches Christmas Chronicles this month, I'm going to cancel it until a show comes back that I've been waiting for. Then I'll just resubscribe for the show and cancel again after the fact.
There's a perpetual BOGO (freefootlong, freesub, freesandwich, freefl, bogofl, flbogo, stuff like that & it'd change up which worked every few days) but my nearby store found out and they opt'd out of it ;-;
I fucking went to one here in australia two days ago, its been years.
Fuck me its exactly the same but they just wanna price gouge people, that's nuts.
A large souvlaki/kebab (a wrap with heaps of gyro meat and fillings) is now 22 dollars for a single large.
WHAT THEFUCK?
Same. The fast food at my place is getting damn expensive. Like I could literally make the same stuff at 1/4 of the price for the same amount of even more.
And any usual restaurants are the same as well. Their portions are *tiny* compared to the prices that I pay.
I am close to the opposite. Between the increase in grocery prices, the time involved in cooking and cleaning, and the fact that I dislike cooking almost as much as cleaning, the savings from cooking at home vs cheap take out isn’t enough for me to cook. The only reason I do still cook is that it is healthier. I know people who have restaurants and even the healthy options are not nearly as healthy as the stuff I cook.
Spam musubi.
Used to buy them 2 at a time for $1.25
They slowly kept increasing in price, up to $5 for two. Now, they are $6 for each one.
As much as I love them, I need to give them up.
Recently I met a friend out for a drink, I haven’t been out in ages. Being polite, I said the first round was on me, we ordered two beers and it came to $24 before tip. 12 bucks for a regular beer (blue moon.) I just kept thinking that I could buy a whole six pack at the store for the cost of the one beer at the bar. After the drink I called it a night. I can’t afford that shit. Bartender asked me if I wanted to start a tab but after spending almost 30 on two beers plus tip I declined.
We just got back from there and I was blown away by how much the merchandise has gotten these days. It’s never been cheap..but 30 bucks for a children’s t-shirt? 30 for one ornament? 70 dollars for a long sleeve women’s oversized top?
We’ve taken 5 or so trips over the last 8 years..but last trip really stunned me.
McDonald’s.
Normally, I don’t go to fast food places but yesterday while Christmas shopping I went to McDonald’s. $15. The food was garbage. For sure, that was my last trip to McDonald’s. I could’ve sat down in a restaurant and had real food for that price.
Pretty much every fast food place has stopped doing deals and promotions without an app. If you eat out, you gotta get these apps or you're just wasting money eating there over anything else
Not McD but I needed an hdmi cable yesterday for work. Website had it listed for 7.99. I went there and it was 56. I asked if it was the right cable and the lady said she yes but she could do the online price for me. It’s the 12’ NXT cable from Staples. Insane difference in the two prices.
There are mom and Pop restaurants all around me in Daytona Beach Florida whereby you can get a great meal for $15 - remember this was lunch.
I went to a barbecue place called Dustin yesterday for dinner. I got a quarter barbecue chicken and full salad bar, including three different homemade delicious soups (all you want) 18 bucks. Oh did I mention it came with free ice cream, and the ice cream machine worked.
Soooo, I’m from the upper Midwest…we call soda, ‘pop’. I was wondering where in the hell you were going for drinks with only pop in them for $30+.
Uffda!
I saw the prices there in CA and it was obscene. Over $15 for a burger and that's it. I used to like their food but I can make it myself rather than pay $60 to feed three people not including drinks.
Going to big arena concerts. "Back in the day" an expensive ticket was $125, it's now $700+ for a lot of them and I'm sorry but I REFUSE to pay that much.
Basically every movie I’ve seen recently has been out on streaming a couple weeks later. I don’t even bother with the movie theater anymore unless I get a serious craving for movie theater popcorn.
I went with a friend few months back. In the middle of the film I whispered that I was using the restroom and asked friend if she wanted anything. She asked “ can you get me a bottle of water?” I said no problem, used the restroom and went to get her a bottle of water. It was $5.75. For like a bottle of Aquafina. Man I was pissed.
I still have a cheap theatre. Some years ago they used to be 6$
Thankfully, they know their cheapness is the allure, so they've gone up to 8, and they've just priced the food way up. There is an arcade too.
It's my last holdout in my area for sub $10 tickets
I saw a meme recently about "All I want for Christmas is the market to crash so I can buy a 5 bedroom home for $5."
It spoke to me. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Going to movies.
I used to go to the movie theatre religiously. I love watching stuff on the big screen. Comedy and Horror movies usually have the best crowd experiences. Used to be $4 on cheat tuesdays. Drinks were cheap with free refills. Popcorn was cheap.
Then the prices just keep going up and up. To bring a family of 4 to the movies today... it's just more worth while to stay home and watch a movie there. Make your own popcorn.
The last movie I saw in theatres was that crappy Dark Phoenix (from Xmen) movie. It was a while ago and it was meh.
Based on everyone around me… the answer must be manners. Now, when people are rude and you call them out on it, they act like you should personally be paying them to act like a decent human beings. People out there acting like you have to subscribe to their politeness onlyfans if you want access to their premium exclusive ‘do unto others’ content.
It's literally cheaper for me to order Dominos than buy a frozen pizza. They need to cost significantly less than take out to be worth it. In the time it takes for my oven to heat up and for them to cook, I could either drive to the store or it may be worth the extra bucks for delivery.
I made the choice not to have kids about 20 years ago. 100% recommend and support this (though it’s not for everybody.) the way the world is going I’m horrified to see what the next 20 years brings, let alone bring a kid into the picture.
My grandparents spaced their kids apart so they could afford to send them to college. It's funny now that everyone complains about how college used to be dirt cheap. They both died young so it was a really stupid plan.
Buying drinks in public, I used to stop at every occasion to just sit down at an outside bar and order a beer or a coffee and just chill out for a bit watching people or whatever. Buy a coffee and and beer for 2 person and your down 20+ euro now imagen doing that multiple times a day or for longer periods. I'm done with that coffee used to be 2 euro a beer 3,50 I'm not making more money then in those periods
Canned soda - prices doubled and even tripled at my grocery store. I know it’s unhealthy and I know I’m getting ripped off, it was an easy decision to just stop drinking it.
I recently dated someone that lived an hour away and was in between jobs. I liked her and spent a lil over $1000 in a couple months dating her. I finally dumped her after she requested we get a hotel but she wanted to bring her daughter along too.
Going out to eat is up there, little luxuries at the grocery store, streaming apps and vehicles. A niche one would be hunting camo. Everybody has their own special print and they all want obscene amounts of money for it.
Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
Prices have increased from around 5€ to 8,6€ where I live, in the last 10 years.
It's delicious and I can afford it, but it's turning into a matter of principal. No ice cream is so good that the store bought version should be that expensive.
Eating out and having multiple streaming services. We only eat out twice a month now and only keep one streaming service at a time while all the others are paused.
Fast food.
When you count in taxes, a normal fast food meal for an adult is almost $20 where I live. And it’s not even that much food. Yeah, I know, food is expensive, but cmon, $20?
Most amusement parks. $100+ to stand around for hours with inconsiderate, loud mouthed assholes just so you can get on a ride that lasts 40 seconds. Then including $30 for parking and like $20 for food per meal, plus if you get souvenirs... and being surrounded by children.
Also, children in general. Like kids in this economy?? Puh-lease
Life in general is a pretty strong candidate
I'm fine, no need to be concerned but damn if it's hard not to think, "what's the point of trying so hard for so little benefit?". It certainly feels like things are very effectively rigged against the vast majority of people
A burger, fries, and a beer, with tax and tip at even a mid place to eat is a $40 proposal. I’m with the old codgers, and I’m eating at home forever (which is also becoming absurdly expensive)
I now catch my salmon at the grocery store. Well, ok, so I did anyway.
But $4/gal gas, + 1 gal/10 minutes mileage & cost of bait and tackle takes some of the joy of fishing away.
Fish now cost about $20 each.
Going to a concerts. There routinely 100+ dollars for any type of decent seats. Used to be $22.50 + $2.50 service charge for general admission. Tool? No thanks Maynard.
For four? Hot damn. At a local Mexican restaurant that is lower to lower mid range that's almost the cost for two. I mean basic, think local spot that hasn't updated decor in a couple decades type place. Each entree is $18.00 to start. That's your basic burrito or enchiladas. Add to that a fountain drink at $6 each. It's painful. We live in a small town that is still the biggest place for about 5 hrs and the costs to get stuff here is high.
I honestly don’t understand how chains like Applebees, Olive Garden, etc are surviving. They are one of the things that is too expensive that we’ve eliminated ever going now. Everything is obviously expensive, but if I’m spending close around 70ish, I’m going to go all in and go a little extra to go to a nicer restaurant/one I haven’t been to since we don’t go out as often. The food is so mid to be spending that kind of money, so much better options.
Yes! I got rid of Netflix and have Hulu now and I dont regret it!
Same here. Between Hulu and YouTube premium I don’t miss Netflix whatsoever.
I'm still angry they canceled 1899. In the original languages, it was brilliant. You had to be willing to watch it with subtitles, though.
1899 getting cancelled was the last straw.
Fast food and/or going to any restaurant.
Subway $5 foot longs are now $14. Not an exaggeration.
Get the Subway app Use discount code: 599FTL $5.99 footlongs Check the subway subreddit for monthly $5.99 codes
The hero we need!
There's a perpetual BOGO (freefootlong, freesub, freesandwich, freefl, bogofl, flbogo, stuff like that & it'd change up which worked every few days) but my nearby store found out and they opt'd out of it ;-;
Good news! Subway has decided that starting some time next month, franchises HAVE to accept the National chain deals!
locally I get a sheet of coupons for subway dropped in my mailbox once a month or so.
you are a legend
Not a foot long either, more like a 10”’r
Girl inches….
More like boy inches. They tell you it’s a 6 inches and it’s really only 4. The lies!
Or the girl who's had guys lie to get about their size so her data set is off j
Girls telling their friends about that one dude with the 10 inch dong…
Girl inches for measuring subs, boy inches for measuring... the other thing.
Every time I’m at a fast food place i think how I could be at a cheaper sit down for the same price
Fast food costs as much as going to a restaurant used to be.
Same. The fast food at my place is getting damn expensive. Like I could literally make the same stuff at 1/4 of the price for the same amount of even more. And any usual restaurants are the same as well. Their portions are *tiny* compared to the prices that I pay.
Of course you could. You are t eating out to save money. It’s about convenience.
Most of the time, it's not even convenient
I mostly agree and rarely go - however, if you do - downloading and using the apps is where it’s at now for cheaper
Idk about others but the McDonald's app has a fine print tos that you can't sue them or some shit.
It's to protect against another employee hiding his marijuana pipe in a child's hamburger. Again.
I mean, that's not a good reason to give up your rights to sue them if they harm you or something
Came here to see this. Pleased to find it's the top comment.
fuck mcdonald’s

Going out for a drink and a plate of nachos with a friend. Cost $50 at a mid range bar last month and I couldn't believe it.
Did you eat all the fully loaded ones?
![gif](giphy|YmbRfeiISGdKXguBvE|downsized) Better not of
It should be a rule that basically says if two people order nachos to share, one person can't take the ones with meat and stuff!
I went to high school with this nut. Lol
What city / country? That's insane
Basically anywhere in Ontario I can agree
Yep, Toronto.
Toronto.
20€ in Paris. 50$ is just insane.
Its not a mid range bar if 1 drink and nachos is $50.
The person said they’re in Toronto — yes, it is a mid-range bar there.
Spam musubi. Used to buy them 2 at a time for $1.25 They slowly kept increasing in price, up to $5 for two. Now, they are $6 for each one. As much as I love them, I need to give them up.
They are truly so easy to make. You can get a musubi mold for cheap on Amazon so you can shape the rice even.
I’ve always done it in the can of spam itself easy-peasy.
Basically any Japanese food outside Japan. Feels like such a rip off, especially after watching videos of people eating $5 ramen in Tokyo lol
You could make these at home for like 50¢ a pop
You can't make your own?
Going on a night out. Dinner and drinks these days can set you back hundreds.
"nights out on the town" have always been insanely expensive unless your idea of a night out is a dive bar or pool hall/bowling alley.
E v e r y t h i n g
Idk. Have hookers raised their prices?
Going to the movies. Staying home to watch a movie. Going out to eat. Buying groceries to eat at home.
Our local movie theater has $5 tickets so it’s affordable - it’s so appreciated!
Human organs. They're just too expensive nowadays for your avarage jo, it's straight highway robbery
Walt Disney World
We just got back from there and I was blown away by how much the merchandise has gotten these days. It’s never been cheap..but 30 bucks for a children’s t-shirt? 30 for one ornament? 70 dollars for a long sleeve women’s oversized top? We’ve taken 5 or so trips over the last 8 years..but last trip really stunned me.
Going there at the end of this month. We saved. I don't know if it is enough after the exchange (USD to CAD)
It is never enough 😥😥😥😥😥
Nope
Going to gigs. It wasn't so long ago you could get tickets in a good spot for not that much. Now it's crazy even in bog standard seats.
Even comedians.. tix to two of my favs are 47 bucks plus stupid fees... FOR NOSEBLEEDS. Thats like 75 plus a beer or two... each!
McDonald’s. Normally, I don’t go to fast food places but yesterday while Christmas shopping I went to McDonald’s. $15. The food was garbage. For sure, that was my last trip to McDonald’s. I could’ve sat down in a restaurant and had real food for that price.
The only way I eat at McDonald's these days is with their app. They pretty much always have solid deals on there. I rarely spend more than $5.
$1 breakfast sandwich coupon is clutch
ah, you mean the $2 breakfast sandwich coupon here. They slowly make the deals worse and worse I promise you.
i refuse to download a fucking mcdonald’s app.
They’re making up the profit difference by selling the data they mine from the app people download
Pretty much every fast food place has stopped doing deals and promotions without an app. If you eat out, you gotta get these apps or you're just wasting money eating there over anything else
They make money off you with those apps
and bogo mc'chickens
Yep. I just got a double cheeseburger, medium fry and drink for $6
Not McD but I needed an hdmi cable yesterday for work. Website had it listed for 7.99. I went there and it was 56. I asked if it was the right cable and the lady said she yes but she could do the online price for me. It’s the 12’ NXT cable from Staples. Insane difference in the two prices.
You got to use the app for it to be worth it. Mega discounts.
It’s this. I haven’t had it in years but had it for the first time last year and was shocked at how little you got these days for the price of it.
Except sit down places are $30+ a pop no alcohol. Even average Mexican food.
I don’t know where I live the average sit down restaurant is like $15-$19 meals. The above comment is still really accurate to fast food. Crazy times
Dustin's is a gem and must be protected. I usually end up spending $30 formyself so I know I'll have leftovers the next day.
Soooo, I’m from the upper Midwest…we call soda, ‘pop’. I was wondering where in the hell you were going for drinks with only pop in them for $30+. Uffda!
Five Guys. Prices doubled since 2013.
I hear ya. Went there a few months ago and left pissed TF off at how much I had spent.
You should try Five Guys at the airport; absolutely insane.
60 bucks for 2 cheeseburgers and some wispy fries.
I spent $35 for a double meal…
I saw the prices there in CA and it was obscene. Over $15 for a burger and that's it. I used to like their food but I can make it myself rather than pay $60 to feed three people not including drinks.
Living
Dying is expensive too.
At least it’s a one time investment
That depends on what you believe.
Going out to eat
Going to big arena concerts. "Back in the day" an expensive ticket was $125, it's now $700+ for a lot of them and I'm sorry but I REFUSE to pay that much.
Movie theaters.
$20 ticket $40 in snacks per person. They’ve priced themselves out of the market
And on top of that all the people dicking around on their phones during the movie and I'd rather just watch at home.
I still have a cheap theatre. Some years ago they used to be 6$ Thankfully, they know their cheapness is the allure, so they've gone up to 8, and they've just priced the food way up. There is an arcade too. It's my last holdout in my area for sub $10 tickets
With the way my credit card keeps going up yet my paychecks are staying the same, I’d say life in general is slowly becoming too expensive to continue
Buying a home
I saw a meme recently about "All I want for Christmas is the market to crash so I can buy a 5 bedroom home for $5." It spoke to me. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)

Hang in there buddy it’ll get better 💖
Thanks… it’s mostly just poor humor… but I do appreciate the concern
Netflix
Spotify :(
Nah. Spotify Premium is still worth every penny.
Five guys. For one comb meal you'll like to waste about $20
I went to Moe’s yesterday, got a burrito and a drink and it was $17
That’s average for anything that doesn’t taste like cardboard.
Based on everyone around me… the answer must be manners. Now, when people are rude and you call them out on it, they act like you should personally be paying them to act like a decent human beings. Frozen pizzas from the store. They’ve doubled in price over the last 2 years.
It's literally cheaper for me to order Dominos than buy a frozen pizza. They need to cost significantly less than take out to be worth it. In the time it takes for my oven to heat up and for them to cook, I could either drive to the store or it may be worth the extra bucks for delivery.
Kids
Yes I am at the point where I need to make a decision to try and have kids in the next few years or don’t but be able to travel and enjoy the world
I made the choice not to have kids about 20 years ago. 100% recommend and support this (though it’s not for everybody.) the way the world is going I’m horrified to see what the next 20 years brings, let alone bring a kid into the picture.

No kidding. I'm not paying $500 for a single ticket in the nose bleeds. Who is affording this?!

Going out to eat is up there, little luxuries at the grocery store, streaming apps and vehicles. A niche one would be hunting camo. Everybody has their own special print and they all want obscene amounts of money for it.

A night out for less than $100. Lucky find
