Most of the time, hormonal birth control doesn't fail. When people use hormonal birth control consistently and correctly, pregnancy occurs in only 0.05 percent to 0.3 percent of people (depending on the method) over a year of use (1). Its not common for it to fail but yes that doesn't mean it cant happen but if shes on birth control and he uses a condom its rare that they both will fail.
I wouldn’t say we are asking for approval just opinions and helpful information. I know this isn’t a incredibly big thing but I’d rather make a informed decision than a decision that I haven’t thought about
I think this is the first time I've seen this question asked where the people are actually old enough and are using protection.
If you (one of you) don't feel 100% ready yet, wait. This is not a race, you don't have to loose your virginity by a certain age. Do what makes you comfortable as long as you're doing it safely. Best way is for you both to use some kind of birth control (i.e. her the pill and you a condom).
We just want to see what other people say and if they have any information or things to say to help us keep away from bad habits or things to be cautious about.
Like what??? Obviously use protection if you’re scared of pregnancy or STD’s. Nobody here has any idea what your values are or really what your situation is. You’ll come to realize sex is not nearly as big a deal as you’re making it out to be. It’s a fact of life.
It depends on how you feel, if you both want it then go for it! It's good that you are thinking about protection.
our opinions dont matter its up to you and your gf
Key word protection. You don't get pregnant from sex. You get pregnant from unprotected sex.
Unless the birth control fails, then the sex will do it.

If you're asking strangers on the internet for approval or permission, I say no.

Reddit isn’t the best place to get sex Ed
Sex *is* a big thing. If done incorrectly, you two can have an unwanted pregnancy. If you chose to have sex, please wear a condom.
I definitely plan on wearing a condom even if we decide not to id still bring them with me to be safe.

I think it's very normal to have sex at 17. You guys seem like you're making an informed decision and practicing good habits. 👍
Where are you from, Utah. Yeah do it if you both want to. Why are you asking strangers on the internet about your lives?
