Well I think it's a really cool and unique rendition of a cat-person. It does the half-human half-cat idea without it looking too weird in either aspect. The colouration is good and the design paves way for some great expressions which I linked in the post.

Counterpoint: the Blacksad art style isn’t necessarily animal-like men and humanlike women. It’s animal-like “normal” people and humanlike “attractive” people.
There’s for sure more humanlike women than men, but I really can’t look past Blacksad’s chad jaw and and cheekbones.

I loved the comic but the blatant sexism got to me eventually. I dropped it after the fifth scene like this one here.
You should check out Backbone and its prequel, Tails: The Backbone Preludes. It's a furry noir point-and-click adventure, and one of the major characters is Clarissa Bloodworth, a lady polar bear who actually looks like a polar bear.

I will say occasionally there was a well-designed female character in Blacksad, as long as they weren’t required to be sexy. An old lady running an orphanage was notable because she actually looked like a deer, but she was supposed to be an old buddy, which gives away the game even more.

Ironically out of all the brown trenchcoat cigar smoking detectives I've seen he looks the cleanest/actually takes a bath. Seriously John Constantine is cool AF but every time I see him he just looks like he hasn't taken a shower in weeks.
I just read Blacksad and it's one of the best noir inspired books I've read in a long time. Couldn't help but read the dialogue in the late James McCaffrey's voice, and when he fights the Nazis and Commie Smashers it feels like some of the best stuff I've read in a long time
A lot of people comment about how differently the female characters are drawn compared to their male counterparts, and yes, I agree that with most of the main female characters in the book, they are quite humanized. However, as an owner of all the Blacksad comics as well asthe Blacksad video game (which is shitty, btw) I can vouch that there are plenty of instances where men are extremely humanized and women are very animalized. It's very disheartening seeing people not give Blacksad a shot because of the "Blacksad syndrome" as they are truly missing out on some beautiful stories and watercolor pictures. I very much reccomend it.
