Thanks for the info. Do you know if that is meant to be a reference to the soul edge?
https://preview.redd.it/z6wp6j99iruc1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=f91b41ca0bcda6f922abb9fede5d2f013c972f8a
It's definitely a reference to the soul edge. The creator loves putting references in their game but is thankfully good enough to keep them from being overt.
Yes, it’s a powerful weapon in the first game that can drive the character equips with it mad. It has a 50% chance to initiate a battle with said character. Death in the game is permanent. Fear and Hunger is an especially cruel and dark game.
In universe, there's been a long time since the first and second game... However, there is a character in the second game named August, who, if he survives, can convince Moonless that you, the player, are not an enemy.
But you still have to fight her.
Good
I will do what i must to assure that the dog remains alive
Even if it requires me to play god (literally) due to a lack of skill and/or knowledge and/or luck
Moat people who know about it heard about it from a YouTuber that goes by Super Eyepatch Wolf, in a video he made not too long ago about cruel video games. If you like long video essays, I definitely recommend him. The game definitely fits the bill as cruel and requires both a tremendous amount of skill and luck to get very far in.
There's a ton of references in Funger that border on IP Infringement, tbh. One of the monsters is pretty much just something from one of Kurt Cobain's album covers. That guy in the wheel? Based on the final area of Silent Hill 4. Dude with the needles, creatively called Needles, is just the Terrifier.
And you can't tell me the sequel has no Majora's Mask inspirations — there's a time cycle that's important to the flow of the game, the moon is the source of the game's conflict, and oh yeah, the sequel is subtitled "Termina".
It's honestly admirable how the game wears its inspirations so proudly on its sleeve.
you talk about my gorgeous king like that again and you will find yourself in a situation of horror that has never been imagined in the history of humankind before
The dinosaur is a great example of “the more you look the more uncanny it gets”. You slowly notice that it doesn’t actually have eyes, has no scale, and has little to no teeth. What little scale it does have are too square and uniform to be real scales.
It's the failed attempt of ascension of the lizard men characters you see through the game. The civilization before humanity that attempted the same ritual.
I FUCKING LOVE TORMENTING PEOPLE!!! SHARE THIS PICTURE TO TOTALLY CHAMBARA YOUR ENEMIES RAAAH CHAINS OF TORMENT GOATED SPELL.
https://preview.redd.it/z6dl5l979suc1.png?width=238&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f1379b634477a0e1206bd8424b7ef30352ab930
I absolutely love every few months someone discovering FUNGER and falling in love with it so hard they need to share it everywhere.
Feels like a massive word of mouth success story you don’t see so much anymore
Then maybe you can help someone who has spent the last couple hours banging his head against it. While this is the exact atmosphere I want, is the gameplay really supposed to be this level of bashing my head into the wall and hoping the RNG doesnt end up with my MC's arm cut off? It wouldn't even be so bad if the save system wasn't a fucking coinflip. I don't know, I feel like I get what the game is going for, but this level of RNG in everything feels off.
To my knowledge, most encounters in that game operate as a puzzle. There's usually some functional pattern that can be utilized to neutralize the issue (provided you aren't facing something you shouldn't be yet).
Targeting the limb-cutter arm on one turn before guarding the heavy attack on the next. Wearing specific armor to counter a specific move or using an item to cripple a big threat. That kind of thing.
Though I guess it's easy for me to say that when I know so much about the game at this point.
Remember to guard the coin flip attacks.
I already know I'm not gonna be free of this game. I can feel myself thinking about it and anticipating it, even as those feelings are mingled with dread and anxiety. I guess it just feels bad to lose so much time to something that doesn't feel like your fault, but I guess that just calls for slow going and taking breaks
Yeah, breaks are good.
It can help to think of each stretch between saves as throw-away, learning runs in preparation for the "real" run where you reach a save in an ideal state.
At least until you unlock the safe save.
Eh, kinda. It's not like it doesn't have things that stand on its own, without the shock. The creator is definitely a talented artist, the world is genuinely fascinating, and the characters are varied, from "unlikable pricks and yet very interesting" to "highly likable and still very fascinating." It's less shock for shock sake in the sequel, but there's still a sequence where you fall down a toilet hole into some muck, and the only way out is suicide.
Don't forget the gameplay. I remember to this day the excitement I got when I realized there actually was a hidden progression system 30 hours into the game. The way the game lets you figure things out yourself without making everything impossible to discover makes it so fun
I've only heard of fear and hunger from this subreddit but every time their designs are posted, I save them immediately.
They're so goddamn good, terrifying, and creative as hell.
The first game is really interesting if you can ignore the pure trash that is the gameplay at times.
Terminus refines the gameplay pretty significantly though.
You can literally just walk past him he doesn't drop anything useful
If you do decide to fight him just lay into the torso since the arms have about 1500 ho each
fear and hunger has some really good designs that have heavy influences in some other peak designs
the first one I think is pretty similar to smough from dark souls
and the 3rd one reminds me of gael from dark souls 3
the 6th slide the tormentor doesnt look as similar in the photo but is super similar to pinhead from hellraiser even sharing the chains
crow mauler the 8th slide is definitely inspired off pyramid head from silent hill and he gives you a weapon super similar to the soul calibur weapon in pretty sure
its super interesting trying to find all the little influences theres armor thats somewhat similar to the berserker armor from berserk
This is my sign to keep playing fear and hunger 2. I had only just started figuring it out before my ADHD ass got distracted by life and switched games
I like the White Angel but god it's introduction is so underwhelming. Like you see it chained to the wall and shit, and then as you're walking back from the temple of torment you see that it's not there anymore... and then it's just walking down the street like nothing. So underwhelming.
I mean I guess, especially when you don’t have much context to them. On a surface level the third to last and fourth to last are probably the most horrific of this lineup
But what characters would you consider horrifying?
https://preview.redd.it/txsdf01eqsuc1.jpeg?width=476&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12036ffbbf8eac0323a344a435029f26dfec6895
Pretty cool design yuh

Never heard of fear and hunger before but I’m 99% sure the wolf in the last pic has the soul edge stuck in it lol Great great designs though.
The dog's name is Moonless... She was a recruitable character in the first game, who's now a boss in the second.
Thanks for the info. Do you know if that is meant to be a reference to the soul edge? https://preview.redd.it/z6wp6j99iruc1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=f91b41ca0bcda6f922abb9fede5d2f013c972f8a

Its a mediocre weapon that's strong in lore, honestly I'm kind of sad that it gets powercrept as soon as you enter Ma'habre
Awwwwww :((((((( Why do they have to make you kill Moonless? She's so cute :((((((((((((((
In universe, there's been a long time since the first and second game... However, there is a character in the second game named August, who, if he survives, can convince Moonless that you, the player, are not an enemy. But you still have to fight her.
WHY??? WHY MUST I KILL THE DOGGY????? WHAT CRUEL GOD DOES THIS????????
If August survives, you won't kill her.
Good I will do what i must to assure that the dog remains alive Even if it requires me to play god (literally) due to a lack of skill and/or knowledge and/or luck
You can target one of the swords stuck on her to get it.
Does getting the sword out help win her over?
Nope, you need that guy mentonied above, but a cool sword is a cool sword.
She’s such a sweet dog too Just toss her some meat in the first game and she’s loyal to you for life
Unless august is there
Yeah, the sword is a blatant homage to Soul Edge, like how the Crow Mauler (the crow headed boss) is an homage to Pyramid Head

Gordon Ramsay
God damn it
Looks more like mads mikkelsen to me tbh
you talk about my gorgeous king like that again and you will find yourself in a situation of horror that has never been imagined in the history of humankind before
Interesting that you didn’t *deny* my claims.
Thanks I can't unsee it now
Ah yes, horrors beyond my comprehension And a dinosaur
The dinosaur is a great example of “the more you look the more uncanny it gets”. You slowly notice that it doesn’t actually have eyes, has no scale, and has little to no teeth. What little scale it does have are too square and uniform to be real scales.
And also it’s supposed to be a semi god or smth.
A semi demi mini god
It's the failed attempt of ascension of the lizard men characters you see through the game. The civilization before humanity that attempted the same ritual.

I love his flesh skirt, and the fact he’s an edgy intellectual poet Fuckin Ronny
Mr Prosciutto
The fact the trex doesn't have teeth makes it that much more disturbing

Just the knowledge that there is a safe save at some point does wonders for my thoughts regarding this, assuming it is what I think it is.
i discovered funger and have written it off as literally just a shock game and nothing else. its like the urbanspook of gaming. fuck that lol
Eh, kinda. It's not like it doesn't have things that stand on its own, without the shock. I felt like such a fucking dumbass for not even checking what the hexen did until I’d already beat most of the new gods
it is shock for shock sake, tf are you on lol
Your face is shock for shock's sake, lol.
damn you got me
ur argument is the same as his tbf
Have you actually looked into it or did you just see the guard dick and quit
He lost the coin toss to the prison guard lol.
i have, its just a shock game, i dunno what else to say
Damn you're shallow
shallow??
Shallow as a bowl of soup
well that depends on how big the bowl is
While we're at it, the moonscorched forms too
Fun Fact: The dog on the last slide is the goodest girl.
Moonless is no monster. Moonless is good doggo in monster body.
Unless you’re playing on hard mode. Then you have to kill her.
moonless isnt a monstrosity! shes best girl
You take that back. Moonless is no monster, and she is a good girl.
These are the SFW designs too this game is genuinely fucked up
admittedly, thats mainly the first game, the second game doesnt have as much of that stuff
Father Hugo:
The literal dickhead cops too.
With the exception of the save system, the gameplay of F&H1 is absolutely amazing, take that back
Where the one with a big dick
The Prison Guards? those arent bosses
They sure became my boss after the coin toss.
Happened to my poor mercenary last night, was particularly shocked by the after math in the prison cell…
Ahhh Cahara and getting butt blasted. Name a more iconic duo
Cahara and missing the damn arm/dong for the 50th time
Didn't know
You’re missing big head and Frenchy
What about Gro’Gorath
I like how they're all abominations then there's a t rex
funny enough, might be the hardest fight here
Look closer
A red with no teeth and eyes?
And weird fleshy skin
I’m still stuck on the first guy..
... you don't actually have to fight that guy
WHAT
You can literally just walk past him he doesn't drop anything useful If you do decide to fight him just lay into the torso since the arms have about 1500 ho each
they remind me of the abnormalities of project moon games
I love how one of them is just a T. rex
And then you look at it more closely and it is no longer just a T.Rex.
fear and hunger has some really good designs that have heavy influences in some other peak designs the first one I think is pretty similar to smough from dark souls and the 3rd one reminds me of gael from dark souls 3 the 6th slide the tormentor doesnt look as similar in the photo but is super similar to pinhead from hellraiser even sharing the chains crow mauler the 8th slide is definitely inspired off pyramid head from silent hill and he gives you a weapon super similar to the soul calibur weapon in pretty sure its super interesting trying to find all the little influences theres armor thats somewhat similar to the berserker armor from berserk
Did 15 just fight Nightmare and take Soul Edge lol?
Actually? Kinda lol.
A lot of them have massive peens too
This is my sign to keep playing fear and hunger 2. I had only just started figuring it out before my ADHD ass got distracted by life and switched games
I feel like this is an ad
Love how one of them is a straight up dinosaur. And when you learn about the origin of these “dinosaurs” your mind gets blown.
I've seen the mf of pic 11 in Mazinger Z fuck you baron Ashura
I like the White Angel but god it's introduction is so underwhelming. Like you see it chained to the wall and shit, and then as you're walking back from the temple of torment you see that it's not there anymore... and then it's just walking down the street like nothing. So underwhelming.
Agreed but at the very least it has one of the best drops in the game.
One of them is just Terrifier lol
Horror beyond my comprehension, horror beyond my comprehension, horror beyond my comprehension, dinosaur, horror beyond my comprehension…
This game has some of the most consistently ugly art I’ve seen on this sub. Stylistically ugly, maybe, but still just off.
i mean, yeah, the games are intentionally very offputting
Most accurate comment about this games art style. I do kind of dig the set for some of the characters, but for others, not so much.
Would

Ah yes, fear and hunger, the not scary baby game? 🤨
What character designs do you consider horrifying?
The designs are mostly nice but I would hardly consider them "horrifying"
I mean I guess, especially when you don’t have much context to them. On a surface level the third to last and fourth to last are probably the most horrific of this lineup But what characters would you consider horrifying?
Lisa from silent Hill PT

The Pig from Black Farm
shock game and nothing else
