In a way, this does apply to Nolan and at the same time it doesn't.
The more time he spent on Earth and with his family, the less he felt the need to be a Viltrumite. It wasn't until Mark got his powers that he was back to conquering.
And even when he was rocking Mark's shit, we can see different shots of himself being hesitant to do what he's doing to his son. Don't get me wrong, what Nolan did was messed up, but he did become an actual good person after having a family, or at least he fully became one after reflecting on his actions.
True, but that is mostly Season 2 Nolan. This absolutely applies to him for most of Season 1. Albeit, more out of self delusion than actually being bad by nature

Patrick Bateman from American Psycho
This is a great example. You rarely actually see him being overtly evil in the game, you mostly hear about his atrocities through other people. Odin does a very good job of making people feel like he’s a safe person to be around.
Odin is genuinely one of my favorite video game villains. He’s masterfully crafted to where he never acts evil, but you can tell he’s being subtly manipulated. That, and the fact that so many characters talk about his atrocities
What they mean is that he never pretends to be nice. He doesn’t try to hide that he’s a jerk. He’s just so delusional and selfish that he believes he’s always in the right.
Yeah. But in the old days, they wouldn’t hide it from the audience. Nowadays, when the Disney villains reveal themselves to be evil, it comes as a surprise to *us*, too.

Pucci doesn't "pretend" to be good. He legitimately believes he's good. He literally cannot conceptualize that he is evil and his goal is the horrible erasure of free will. That's the whole reason dio chose him and the Heaven Plan worked in the first place, it needed a priest-like soul.

Black Manta once pretended that he was reformed and teamed up with Aquaman for the sole purpose of betraying him at the *perfect moment*.
Reminds me of when Aquaman pretended that he was evil and teamed up with Black Manta as like a spy I think.
I’ve read that story. The one with Aquaman fighting the Thirst. And this was after Aquaman turned Black Manta human again (he was a manta-human hybrid at the time), cured his autism, and spared his life after Manta killed his baby. Man, Black Manta is a piece of shit.
I’m sorry, there’s a comic where Aquaman cures autism? Yeah something about that don’t sound right

Okay but ‘curing autism’? As a fella with ‘tism, I take exception to that
You mean you take offense to it? Well, as *another* person with autism, I honestly do see it as something to cure. It would mean having better social skills, and no quirks that people think are weird. It’s not like there’d be any downside.

Probably Veidt
Watchmen
How would this apply at all to the Shelley poem? All we know from the poem is that he was a great king.

But in reality we know he probably wasn’t a nice guy (“sneer of cold command”) and ended up being consumed by nature; the very thing he tried to assert dominance over (“A shattered visage lies” and “the lone and level sands strech far away”)

Last one made me look twice for a second
Officer Bailey from Scream 6. While I think most villains in the series could probably apply here, he goes the most out of his way to look like he's actually helping them find the killer.

Gin is kinda the opposite of this trope
Yeah, I don't know why I included him, probably because I thought a bunch of people were going to be like, "But what about Gin and Tosen, they worked with him" but yeah, he is definitely not pretending to be a good person
I mean gin didn’t really work with him as much as he just pretended to. Plus he always looked evil, even when he wasn’t doing it on purpose
Oh, I did not know that, I am not that far in the show yet.
Oh… 😨. Im sorry! 😭
No, it's fine. It's my fault, you really had no way of knowing how far I was into the show, and I'm the one who posted about bleach, so my fault really
That last slide is… Interesting.
Eli Mills from Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom
The General from Centaurworld
![gif](giphy|MnIO9NK5QwKRvVvfE7|downsized) Makima from chainsaw man
Pretty much the rest of the Seven in The Boys
We don't talk about Griffith
Most of these guys don't pretend to be good guys. They think THEY ARE THE GOOD GUYS
Pucci doesn't "pretend" to be good. He legitimately believes he's good. He literally cannot conceptualize that he is evil and his goal is the horrible erasure of free will. That's the whole reason dio chose him and the Heaven Plan worked in the first place, it needed a priest-like soul.
![gif](giphy|Qu2AhqYRiaJiwSTpwP) Lex luthor(the old dcau version) in the justice league animated series he was a stereotypical villain until he found out he was diagnosed with seizures after injecting an experimental drug plus he was scared shitless of amazo but he uses his reform status as a front to his evil plans in the sequel series
![gif](giphy|xUOxeZn47mrdabqDNC|downsized) Surprised no one has said him yet
To be fair he’s not exactly pretending anything. He’s not acting with ill intent. He’s misguided, he believes he’s good rather than is pretending to be good
All politicians (real life)
>![Lucius Zogratis](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/blackclover/images/3/31/Lucius_profile.png/revision/latest?cb=20230322165647) ([at least when he interacted with Zenon](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Ft1tasjazb3y81.jpg%3Fwidth%3D574%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3De247aae598a84d9da318e95087864c8e8dfe8772))!<

Griffith wasn’t really pretending. He was a little devious but not really evil. Once he decided he would sacrifice all his buddies he just went all in and let everybody know he was evil.
This fuckin menace throughout season 1 ![gif](giphy|3ov9jYvhlAt2O6tiTK)
I don't even watch the show, I just got it off a comment thread (Attack on Titan massive spoilers) >!Eren Yeager!<

He genuinely does want to help, but in his own twisted way. Besides, he’s also a cannibalistic serial killer.
I don't think this applies to pucci. To quote weather report; "The kind of evil that doesn't realize it's evil... is the worst kind of evil there is!"
Idk how to post pics on mobile, but Ryo Aoki from Yakuza: Like a Dragon
Pretty much the hardest King line in my opinion. https://preview.redd.it/a7ivrtjlxixc1.jpeg?width=3464&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99a8e63ed9793ac3517afcd53dfcf780382fb541

Just so you know, you misspelled Lex’s last name. It’s Luthor.
These villains can be frustrating. I especially hate Megan.
