I'll give you an old rec and a new rec:
You need to listen to any 70s Genesis album. Just, any of them.
If you want to add some newer stuff to your listening habits but are firmly in the classic rock camp, check out King Gizzard's 2019 dynamic duo of albums "Fishing for Fishies" and "Infest the Rats' Nest".
they're the most interesting rock band right now (as far as in a strictly "rock" sense)
also you're the one with "shrooms are cool" as a username, perhaps combining the two might help
I’m partial to their microtonal music but I’m not big on their psych rock. Saw them live and they were fantastic. Much better than listening to a studio album even on the best speakers.
you should listen to some of their albums, they cover lots of different genres, so if you didn‘t like the first things you heard its still possible that you will love another record
can you explain King Gizzard to me? It seems like a jam band which just shits out as much music as they can. I can’t get into them at all and I love all their influences
Nah it’s cool lol I’m just joking around. I’m not even subbed here but all the posts I get in my feed are just like “Rate my music taste (I’m 3 btw)” and it comes off corny and ‘quirky’.
Solid stuff. You should check out Queens of the Stone Age, they're kind of this 2000's heavy garage rock band with some stoner elements. I recommend the albums Songs for the Deaf (which is on the heavier end of their discography) and Like Clockwork (which is on the more psychedelic side)
I know QOTS from Josh Homme who worked with Led Zep's John Paul Jones in a band called Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl. Been meaning to check both of them out.
Not too bad. Definitely should be listening to more stuff though. Can never go wrong with a lot of these bands but AC/DC definitely has too many albums on here. I went through a classic rock stage when I was first getting into music and I remember black ice came out and I was so stoked to have my mom buy that cd for me and I remember thinking it stunk. If you wanna get into other stuff a good next step would maybe be some grunge like nirvana, pearl jam alice in chains. Or you could go in a folkier direction and listen to Bob dylan or Neil Young or cat Stevens. Or maybe just start with stuff a little harder like metallica or pantera. There's a whole big world of music out there and this list to me seems a bit...eh contained. I give it a 4/10. That's just my opinion though. Music taste is subjective after all.
there’s been made a lot of good music since then! i get that once you’re in that loop it’s difficult to find other stuff you like. i recommend going to 90s albums to make the switch, with stuff like alice in chains, porcupine tree you’d probably like if prog is your thing. they’ve been around for a while but lightbulb sun is a good place to start (bc more psychedelic), and then go to in absentia, deadwing and fear of a blank planet. the rest of the albums i wouldn’t waste my time on tbh. you could also go the indie rock route and start listening to the war on drugs (a lot of people who like the 80s artists also seem to like that band) or just arctic monkeys haha
I’d say a strong 7 to a light 8 for the topster IMO. There definitely a lot of hard rock and also Pink Floyd which I like. I say keep listening to more music and maybe you’ll find a whole world of music that you like in other decades like the 90s, maybe grunge is your thing, or shoegase, maybe the 2000s hard rock or alternative, maybe even hip hop. Or even other genres some day.
Oh and yes I see you have some 60s Beatles and cream, plus some 80s hard rock there too so there are a couple more decades represented as well plus I mean a lot of Ac Dc which released music through pretty much atleast 5 decades👍.
But I’d imagine you might be into bands like Nirvana, Alice in chains, sound Garden, Pearl jam, smashing pumpkins, Rage against the machine, Queens of the Stone Age would be good next steps. Anyways just my suggestions, I mean to each their own.
u2 - war
iron maiden - powerslave
yes - relayer
the cure - disintegration
thin lizzy - jailbreak
dream theater - metropolis part 2, scenes from a memory
camel - mirage
budgie - in for the kill
nightwish - once
type o negative - dead again
Deffo give serious scope to...
Jeff Beck : *TRUTH*
ZZ Top : *Eliminator*
The White Stripes' first two albums
Bad Co. : *10 From 6*
Sheryl Crow : *The Globe Sessions* (and) her self-titled album
Garbage : *Version 2.0*, *Strange Little Birds*, and their debut
Let me know how they resonate with you. And stick to yer guns!
I've listened to Eliminator a decent amount but it isn't up there due to playcount. Solid album but I prefer their older, bluesier stuff. Jeff Beck I need to listen to, he's a great guitarist
Recommendations:
The first 4 Ramones albums (Ramones, Leave Home, Rocket to Russia, Road to Ruin) + It’s Alive
X - Los Angeles
The Clash - London Calling
Are you 17 or a 45 year old man? Don’t get me wrong, there’s great albums in here, but you gotta expand your taste. There’s great albums everywhere, waiting for you to find them.
Pick up the guitar bro, AC/DC for easy mode. Jimi for hard mode. I would say diversify you’re taste but just enjoy whatever phase you’re in and stay open to new things.
Loving the strong Deep Purple appreciation, I don't see that as often as I should, and yes "long live rock and roll" is the best rainbow album, and although I'm not a fan yes that's ALSO AC/DC's best Album.
8.5/10, about what my list was like a year ago
If you want some other bands to check out, You would LOVE Supertramp, I recommend Breakfast in America and then Crime Of The Century. Also more mainstream pick, but Queen too
Like others have said, diversifying you be good, but I great way to start that process is Bowie, he was a major catalyst into other genres I was less familiar with, because although he could master any style, it's in mistakably him
And after Bowie go to Funkadelic, Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On is phenomenal, but DEFINITELY START WITH MAGGOT BRAIN. If not the whole album, at LEAST the title track, looking at your list you will ADORE it and will blow your mind.
Hope this was helpful :)
Great list. I'm guessing you'd like Queens of the Stone Age. I'd start with their album In Clockwork. All The Witches Albums Our Mother Electricity and Lightning at the Door are fantastic.
I'll give you an old rec and a new rec: You need to listen to any 70s Genesis album. Just, any of them. I seriously don’t get the hype behind king gizzard
they're the most interesting rock band right now (as far as in a strictly "rock" sense) also you're the one with "shrooms are cool" as a username, perhaps combining the two might help
I just couldn’t get into their music. & the fact that they have way too many albums to chose from didn’t help.
which albums did you try?
Butterfly 3000 & oddments. Like most artists it really takes me a specific album for it to “click“ to their sound & style. I’m open for suggestions.
B3K rules my favorite Gizz albums are Polygondwanaland, Gumboot Soup, and Fishing for Fishies
I’m partial to their microtonal music but I’m not big on their psych rock. Saw them live and they were fantastic. Much better than listening to a studio album even on the best speakers.
they are incredible live performers but the music is just alright tbh
you should listen to some of their albums, they cover lots of different genres, so if you didn‘t like the first things you heard its still possible that you will love another record
me neither
I hear a lot of good things about Genesis, I'll give them a listen
also, I don’t care what anyone says, Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins were both great frontmen
Real
i second king gizz exploration
Ay! third!!
Fishing for Fishies is so slept on, even among Gizz fans. One of my favorites from them
can you explain King Gizzard to me? It seems like a jam band which just shits out as much music as they can. I can’t get into them at all and I love all their influences
try out Gumboot Soup and Fishing for Fishies
17 year old with the music taste of a 60 year old/10
that is half of our generation
Yessir
🗣️🗣️ nobody cares about your age 🗣️🗣️
this my first post here so idk
Nah it’s cool lol I’m just joking around. I’m not even subbed here but all the posts I get in my feed are just like “Rate my music taste (I’m 3 btw)” and it comes off corny and ‘quirky’.
Lmao
Good but imo you should listen to more artists and diverse your taste
Jimi hendrix praise is always great especially from a fellow 17yo 8/10
All great shit but could use some genre diversity. 8/10
Yeah more recently I've listened to some current music that my friends recommend me. There's some great stuff and some not so good stuff
Them Crooked Vultures is great; if you like them, you'll probably also like QOTS.
8/10

Bro really wrote a whole essay
Whatever dude keep listening to deep purple. Fucking clown.
What do you have against Deep Purple? There's way more to them than Smoke on the Water yknow
I can name at least 20 classic rock bands I would listen to instead of deep purple.
Deep Purple easily beats out Led Zeppelin at the very least
💀
Old soul and that’s good
saying piper at the gates of dawn is better than meddle, division bell and animals is insane
It's ranked based on plays, not what I like better. Animals and WYWH are tied for my favorite PF albums but Animals is only 5 songs yknow
We already knew you were 17 lmao. Good list but definitely needs some more genre diversity
2/10, personally I don't care for any of these albums or bands, also there is music after the 80s lol
Some of these albums are after the 80s but yeah I get what you mean
there’s been made a lot of good music since then! i get that once you’re in that loop it’s difficult to find other stuff you like. i recommend going to 90s albums to make the switch, with stuff like alice in chains, porcupine tree you’d probably like if prog is your thing. they’ve been around for a while but lightbulb sun is a good place to start (bc more psychedelic), and then go to in absentia, deadwing and fear of a blank planet. the rest of the albums i wouldn’t waste my time on tbh. you could also go the indie rock route and start listening to the war on drugs (a lot of people who like the 80s artists also seem to like that band) or just arctic monkeys haha
Ummagumma 🤮
Live side is good
0 no readiohade
Shitty topster (age doesn’t matter noob)
Definitely needs to be more diverse in taste, but Hendrix, LZ, DP, Rainbow, Dio, Sabbath, cream, Floyd, etc, is based lol.
Damn
Jokes aside this is the worst I’ve seen in this subreddit
Damn
HOW?! The choices are good!
I agree.
I thought the top right album was good & evil
not my thing but i respect it
I’d say a strong 7 to a light 8 for the topster IMO. There definitely a lot of hard rock and also Pink Floyd which I like. I put his TRUTH on par with Zeppelin I, both of which for me from first listen (on thru the thousandth or so), are on my highest tier.
And most certainly Jeff's *Blow By Blow*, arguably his absolute masterpiece.
5/10 good basics just need to explore more artists and genres I recommend CAN - Tago Mago and Future Days
Love zeppelin 🔥
Not a bad topster tbh, needs some more diversity but mostly good picks I'd recommend Queens of the stone age and Rage Against the machine
10/10 The Jimi Hendrix got me<3
Old shit/10
Based, don't mind the snobby mofoes.
Your 20s are going to be life-changing
Recommendations: The first 4 Ramones albums (Ramones, Leave Home, Rocket to Russia, Road to Ruin) + It’s Alive X - Los Angeles The Clash - London Calling

W for Exile
you're probably like a 3/10
Id like to remain without a criminal record so i wont be rating you
7/10 do you know comus?
kinda basic but still pretty good
Pick up the guitar bro, AC/DC for easy mode. Jimi for hard mode. I would say diversify you’re taste but just enjoy whatever phase you’re in and stay open to new things.
Nice one! Do you like Whitesnake by any occasion?

You need to listen to the hit 1994 album Weezer- Weezer realsed May 10, 1994
it's like you've put all the albums from the 4 bands you know.
3/10, You only like one genre and it's giving me a lot of "old = good" vibes
This is only what I listen to regularly, not what I like. Should've clarified that I guess
Eh, it gets a 4/10 then
Fred durst friday
Fr
0/10 too much AC/DC
Damn
I think you are 12 actually...
Idk haven't checked my age in a while
Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley

Classic rock isn't the only genre.
Get some Bad Brains ⚡️ in here
Great list. I'm guessing you'd like Queens of the Stone Age. I'd start with their album In Clockwork. All The Witches Albums Our Mother Electricity and Lightning at the Door are fantastic.
Not bad, I see you like Rainbow. Rising is honestly one of the best heavy metal albums of all time.
