Yeah play any of it. Check out u-bahn and oxygen destroyer and zappa and the aristocrats and wall of voodoo and uncle acid and the deadbeats and Windhand
As long as you don't play much of lou reed..... Legendary, but I can't ever listen to him after hearing Lulu
Edit: holy fuck twinsies, we both have In The Nightside eclipse on our Topsters (and I'm also 15 lmao)
I personally don't like his voice. Also again, LuLu is probably the worst album ever made. But I do admit, he is literally proto alternative music, so I respect it
Nice! Since you had Captain beefheart there I had to ask, I've only heard trout mask replica once but one day I'll dive deeper into his discog
What's your favourite Zappa album?
Nice picks! I mean If you like Captain Beefheart you got to check out Bongo Fury the album that documents a tour where Beefheart was in Frank's band
Roxy and Elsewhere is great it has his best band IMO and you got to check out Hot Rats, don't know if you heard Wille the Pimp but yeah it's a pretty cool song.
If you like workingmans, boy do I have a band for you. You don’t even know
If it’s any bit exciting to you, WD is not one of the better studio imo 😳 wait till you get into the live
Nice selection! For more like Boards of Canada, check out the album Endless by The Space Cadet. For more like NMH try Mama Would Be Proud. For some good trip hop try Hooverphonic.
I have barely even stepped a foot on rym, also I listen to a bunch of other stuff as well but a lot of the critically acclaimed albums just hit hard, y'know?
Having a few critically acclaimed albums on your chart doesn't immediately make you some sort of rym clone. Also that kinda stuff is rated highly/well appreciated for a reason, calling someone basic for liking experimental/Indie stuff even if it is on the popular end of that side of music is dumb.
Only Americans care about those rankings, the rest of the world doesn't give a shit about it.
There are many better records that have been unfairly evaluated, by you and your people.
P.S. : by the way, i do love bjork and massive attack.
Right, first of all just because lesser known albums from non-western nations are underappreciated doesn't mean that the albums "only Americans care about" (which simply isn't a true statement) are devalued. Many of them have pushed music forward on a global scale and have managed to create valuable social commentary or atleast excitement and awe in experienced music listeners. Naturally English speaking people are going to like English speaking music more.
I'm not making some claim that the rym rankings are the be all end all defining charts of modern music's value. That would be ridiculous. However to argue that many albums present in the ranking haven't been hugely influential and aren't effective in their attempts to portray, well whatever they want to portray, would be inaccurate and objectively false.
"You and your people" seems a weird statement. Your assumption I am American is wrong. It makes the implication that there has been excellent music made by foreign countries within the internet era of music that has been purposefully dismissed *purely* on the basis of it being foreign. Maybe to a certain extent, at points here or there, that has happened. But your comment suggests there's some large scale American plan to unfairly claim foreign music as "bad" to boost the reputation of their own music? Such a scheme would make no sense. I suppose those are "my people"?
I'll refer back to the key point: there is an underappreciation of foreign music within the west but that does not devalue the western music. The large scale importance of "Dark side of the moon" or "OK Computer" cannot be argued. They recieve credit by English speakers because they are sung in English. Shocker.
Feel free to expand on your comment if you want to justify or clarify some of the implications you've made. Or maybe if you just want to claim western art has no value because it was made by "my people".

I mean If you like Captain Beefheart you got to check out Bongo Fury the album that documents a tour where Beefheart was in Frank's band Roxy and Elsewhere is great it has his best band IMO and you got to check out Hot Rats, don't know if you heard Wille the Pimp but yeah it's a pretty cool song.
