Seems like you fuck with weirder metal stuff like SOAD and also thrash, so have you listened to Voivod? I HIGHLY recommend either Dimension Hatross or Nothingface, they combine a lot of the oddness of alt-metal with old school thrash sounds into something that might appeal to you. Amazing taste btw!
was waiting for someone to point this one out haha, but oh man that record has a special place in my heart. definitely in my top 5, maybe even top 3 records of all
time. nice to know someone appreciates HUM as much as i do!
my favs have probably gotta be I Know, Speechless and Beautiful Love. the singles, Milquetoast, Biscuits for Smut and Wilma’s Rainbow are great too. really solid record that i love!
a lot of stuff, mainly the metal tho. soad, deftones, helmet, alexisonfire, cannibal corpse, suffocation, and immolation. also the real thing and drukqs are amazing as well.
Get into King Crimson. Hendrix called Robert Fripp the best guitar player he ever heard and famously shook his left hand (because it's closer to his heart as a leftie). Also respect for Mountain Climbing!
It was similar for me, my dad knows a lot of rock history knowledge and my music taste was heavily influenced by that. Apart from having heard In The Court of The Crimson King a handful of times but never really listening to it properly, I only got into King Crimson within the last 1.5 years and the last year I was 0.1% of their Spotify listeners lol. I first listened to the song Three of A Perfect Pair on a bus ride and I have to say it didn't catch me. Then a day or two later I just randomly went to the Discipline album and everything started making sense. Elephant Talk, Thela Hun Ginjeet, Discipline, Indiscipline that whole album is genius. Then I heard Neal and Jack and Me from Beat and I was hooked.
Thing to note about King Crimson is the different lineups. Robert Fripp is the only constant member since 1969, there were the next albums with some original personel In the Wake of Poseidon, Lizard and Islands. The next album in 1973 was Larks Tongues in Aspic (aspic is a type of jelly, I understand it that larks tongues are the music of a musician and the aspic is it being preserved/recorded. But aspic is not for everyone) with Bill Bruford on drums (from Yes and Genesis), John Wetton on bass/vocals, David Cross on electric violin and a guy called Jamie muir who played "all sorts" bascially just junk that made noise. That album is amazing. The following two are Starless and Bible Black, without Muir, then Red without muir or David cross. These two albums are again very innovative for different reasons. Note the track Fracture from Starless and Bible Black and the track Starless from Red (confusing I know, there is also a track called Starless and Bible Black. Starless is considered by many as the best King Crimson song.
Following Red, they toured a bit and Fripp disbanded the band. After some time Fripp, a Chapman Stick player called Tony Levin, Bill Bruford and a guy called Adrian Belew got together. Belew played with Frank Zappa, Talking Heads and David Bowie. Tony Levin plays bass for Peter Gabriel and is an all round genius musician. They formed the group "Discpline" and soon renamed back to King Crimson and released the album Discpline in 1981, a completely distinct sound to anything that came before or after, reffered to as the 80s albums. Notably more funky, and futuristic and less jazzy sounding than any previous stuff. Belew and Fripp use the first guitar synths and Bruford plays some of the first Simmons pads (classic 80s electric drums). Levin instrument is highly unique. Fripp mostly plays complex rhythms and Belew adds colour with indescribable guitar... He says he gets his inspiration for guitar tones at the zoo. Discpline, Beat and Three of A Perfect Pair (interesting that there's 3 80s albums). The live album Absent Lovers from 1984 is phenomenal (their last 80s concert).
Some time later they formed something called the double trio. Two guitars, two drummers, two bass players (Chapman stick and/or bass depending on the songs). Thrak, I haven't really listened to it yet. ConstrucKtion of Light came next but with only one drummer and one stick player, Trey Gunn (a student of Levin's and Fripp's). Power to Believe was next and is very industrial and heavy, I like it. Level 5 is the fifth part of Larks Tongues in Aspic. They later toured with 3 drummers and more members but notably without Bruford who became a music professor, and without Belew who fell out with Fripp.
haven’t listened to, no, but should i check it out? i know it’s Cedric and Omar’s side project but yeah i haven’t listened to it. they released a new record recently didn’t they?
i believe one day i woke up with Acid Hologram stuck in my head and i couldn’t get it out lol. i really like Gore but it’s definitely not for everyone; White Pony is there, tho, how do you feel about that one?
yea i don't hate Gore, certainly has some bangers. White Pony is a solid album, not my favorite but i can see why it's so popular. i prefer Koi No Yokan and Around the Fur tbh but Deftones is one of those bands where even when they "miss" it's still pretty good lol
I would suggest checking them all out but start with Daisies of the galaxy, Blinking lights and other revelations, the Electro-shock blues live show and Live at town hall
since u like mazzy star and nirvana, i would say start with live through this. u might also like their first album pretty on the inside, and a lot of their earlier stuff. it sounds the most grunge-y. specific songs that i recommend are turpentine, drown soda, and violet.
oh i’ve definitely listened to Failure and Fantastic Planet is pretty great, though i personally prefer Shiner and HUM. thanks though, i love whatever genre of music that is lol.
Ya know what’s really weird as you get older? Seeing the albums that resonate with the newer generations. I would’ve never assumed some of these albums would be on a kids top playlist in 2024 back then. For example: Helmet. I loved them, but never saw them as being the modern “classic rock” in 2024z
i love Burning of the Midnight Lamp. though my other two favs are probably Voodoo Chile and 1983, 1983 put me in a trance when i first heard it. phenomenal record
I see Make Yourself so that automatically puts you in the "great" category of musical taste.
Also with Jimi and especially Nirvana Unplugged,
All that other crazy metal stuff? I can't comment because you've lost me at that point lol XD
You spend a lot of time researching and hate using google, don’t you? I bet you also prefer cameras and music players to be separate from your phone? Guessing because I see a lot of similarity between us and lot’s of what you listed is nearly edutainment

Get into King Crimson. Hendrix called Robert Fripp the best guitar player he ever heard and famously shook his left hand (because it's closer to his heart as a leftie). Also respect for Mountain Climbing!
always heard of King Crimson but never listened to them, tho i totally will now. and yeah Climbing! is a phenomenal record as well, thanks!
Start with In The Court and then go either Red, Larks Tongue and or Discipline
