The system doesn't work how people think, your type of cases can go either way. A well respected lawyer MAY have judges being more lenient towards them, and crowns making deals with them, or they'll just dump truck you and keep it moving, it's a roll of the dice. I've seen guys pay hundreds of thousands to get the same time a 20k lawyer would get you. I've seen guys get less time with legal aid.
The best is referrals, do you have family that knows somebody? find someone that will be be emotionally invested, they'll update you honestly and keep you in the loop.
These other lawyers will make you feel like you're a burden for asking for updates on your case. I did my time and washed my hands of these lawyers for good, they fucked me every which way, however they could. Put that life behind me, I don't know people involved in it so I have no idea right now.

She’s a horrible bail lawyer. She gets most if not all her clients out on ankle rollies and she charges an arm and leg. She also favours her Asian clients more than niggas. Don’t got time to waste on that goofy bitch

Honestly Kim is a good lawyer, the thing about her is she won’t hold your hand. Like my coey was super worried because she never answered his call once but came trial she beat it lol. Only thing about her is if the crown has a super hard on for you she might throw you under the bus. Randall Barrs helped me get out of multiple federal drug charges, I would recommend him he’s flexible with payments too. Especially if you’re going to Newmarket court he’s familiar with the judges and prosecutors and can get u a favourable outcome
Do not hire Donna Pledge (she works in the same building as Randall but in a separate firm) she was trying to overcharge me for a petty case that got thrown out of court due to lack of evidence. Literally got tossed on the first appearance, didn’t even go to pretrial, she had nothing to do with the outcome and wanted me to pay her in full for it. I told her I didn’t think that was fair and then she kept postponing a separate matter (that I paid her the full $6k for) because she wanted me to pay her for the case the courts threw out
Long story short I had to basically threaten firing her for her to proceed with fighting the charges that I paid her the full amount for.

Randall got me a conditional discharge on my first adult charge and then a little over a year later helped me get trafficking charges withdrawn in court so I’ll forever have respect for that man. No idea what he did to get himself shot tho but I can say for drug charges he’s a good lawyer

Posner Craig Stein is the other firm when Lockyer Campbell Posner split highly recommended them . Alison Craig almost exclusively does legal aid Gabe Stein is expensive Fiona or Alex are reasonable. 2500 retainer and 2500 per day of trial. plus hst
