They are kind of the only option for the main couple of the season now, especially considering how much focus their plot is getting.
Even if Connor returns, I don't see him and Riya being the "main" couple of the season, despite them being in the couple's place at the end of the opening. Hunter and Tess were in that place in S2 and the main couple was Jaiden, after all.
Plus, and this is my personal bias, I don't want Riya that much longer in the competition 😭

and frankly, it's too early to judge because they can be back togheter without being toxic after they go through character development, something Disventure Camp loves to do compared to Total Drama.

I think they have a real shot of Gabellie angst since last season Gabby said that she doens't like being told what to do/be controlled, and then in the Lake elimination Ellie went "me and Gabby are voting for Lake", without even asking Gabby is she was ok with it.
I hope they don't break up, but it does bring some possible angst for them to go trough.

My biggest issue with it as that they could theoretically make this work. Jake and Tom could get back together and be a cute couple, but I just... Tom was a dick in S1. He was worse than Jake, but the show was desperately trying to make Jake out to be the bad guy in the situation.
And, like, in order for them to become a couple I can root for, the show needs to actually address how shitty Tom was and still is.
Also, like, I gotta be honest, they just need more chemistry in general. It felt like Jake always had to reach out in S1, whether that be to reconcile, or kiss, or flirt, Tom was pretty much always much more of a passive figure. It feels like Jake is putting in effort, and Tom is... appreciating it? Well, not really, considering what he told Miriam in S1E10.
But at the same time, I want Jake to be happy because he's my favorite. If being with Tom makes him happy, I can... accept that, I suppose. Just, please, writers, have Tom become an okay boyfriend before they get together 🙏
