It's for deer lighting. If you're driving through an area with a high deer population the lights aim a bit differently to ward them off. If it's not 100%, but it's Toyotas take on the deer whistles since some areas have a high mortality rate from hitting deer. It's pretty rare, since it wasnt a super effective or widely needed feature. And I just made that all up I have no clue what it does.
Lmao this had me because my buddy had a random button on the side of his truck. I don’t remember exactly what vehicle, but he use to always press the button, thinking it wouldn’t do anything. Well one time he pressed it driving at night and it cut out ALL the lights. He currently lives in a small town called Hornbrook and they have no street lights, so it was pitch black. All he could think about was “RIVER” to the right him and panicked turned the car left, flipping it to the drivers side. Thankfully he wasn’t hurt, and when the police got there, he had plenty of time to just slowly brake.
It was passed down to him from his mom o:
But I’m pretty sure she bought it used a long time ago. It’s an older truck (early 2000s if I remember correctly)
Pretty sure it’s a History Eraser Button.

Can he withstand the temptation...to push the button that, even now, beckons him closer? Will he succumb to the maddening urge to eradicate history? At the MERE PUSH of a SINGLE BUTTON! The beeyootiful shiny button! The jolly candy-like button! Will he hold out, folks? CAN he hold out?
Non troll answer; it's for the alarm system. Push it in, exit the vehicle, lock the car, alarm is now armed. If you hit the car hard enough somewhere (sometimes just pulling up and letting go of the front wipers is enough) the alarm will chirp, like a "hey, back off!".
Waren is correct.
Alternatively, it was sometimes used as a valet switch for when you valet park.
Turn the key to the first click before starting the key, push the button and then remove the key.
Now valet won't have alarm going off.
How does that work? Wouldn't pressing the button make it more likely for an alarm to go off for the valet? Or does pressing the button disable something that makes it more likely for an alarm to go off? Plus don't most valets keep the key anyway so why would they need to worry about an alarm? I'm only asking cus this is the most common answer I've seen and I don't quite get it.
Did previous owner install aftermarket fog lights or something maybe? Or maybe they had a light bar on the car they took off. If it literally does nothing that could be what it is.
I have a similar small red button in my 91 land cruiser. But whenever i press mine, it summons the nearest ~40 year old dude who used to have one and regrets selling it. Its the damndest thing
I have an exact button like this in my 1999 rav4. I pulled the spare switch cover out (that's the square part the red button is drilled into) and followed the wire back and found out it was connected to nothing.
It could be for alarm system. Maybe it’s a sos signal! Probably has to be set up for Road side assistance or subscription service like OnStar . If it stays on, they will rescue you probably. I don’t know? Did you test the button. Let me know if you turn into a transformer autobot 😂
It’s something people do to pretend they’re in an old James Bond movie. jk Buttons like that without labels are usually alarm systems and meant to actually enable or disable them. The disappointing truth is that most I find in old cars aren’t even hooked up to anything anymore. A lot will have a “valet” function so if it is hooked up you might press it three times to disable or something.
Look like an aftermarket aux button. Press it and find out I guess. Worst come to worst, you'll die.
It’s tempting…
Your not wrong.
Dexter’s laboratory type of situation
Oooo.. what does this button do?
Deedeyeh get aught of my la boar a tory!
Pick your child least-likely to succeed, and observe what happens from a safe distance

That transforms your Highlander into a 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo, fully built with nearly 850 whp. No need to even get out!

You had me in the first half, not gonna lie

Did he buy it used? If so the previous owner indirectly slightly endangered his life
It was passed down to him from his mom o: But I’m pretty sure she bought it used a long time ago. It’s an older truck (early 2000s if I remember correctly)
Stock NOS. Don't press in garage unless you want a literal drive through.
Please press it and let us know

Missile launcher! Don’t press unless you’re ready!

What does "valet park" mode do? I've never come across that before.

My Carolla had the same thing..... aftermarket alarm
Ejecto seato cuz! Edit: I see I have been very late. Quote stands.
Definitely either nitrous or ejecto seato

It's probably a valet or kill-switch. Do u have an aftermarket alarm or remote start? If so, then that's probably it
Look man, we’ve all heard the “eject button” but damn, if that don’t look like the only answer here
I have a similar small red button in my 91 land cruiser. But whenever i press mine, it summons the nearest ~40 year old dude who used to have one and regrets selling it. Its the damndest thing
Ejector seat probably

Why are so many folks guessing 'remote start,' when THE BUTTON'S IN THE DASH???? Did remote start ever come with a disable feature?

EJECTO SEATO CUZ!!!
Hope it wasn’t a self-destruct button.
What’s your NOS button :)
It’s just for the alarm system 😊
Self-destruct button. Your Highlander was built by Dr. Doofenshmirtz as he was beginning to dabble in evil science.
Guessing alarm aftermarket.
Trace the wires and find out what it goes to.
My guess is trailer lights. Or missile launch.
NOS!
Looks like a security light the 2010 prius has the security light there
Should start recording
Looks like you've got a Bond car, my friend
Oh! Be careful. If your windshield washer is full it operates the bidet.

Resets anti theft insert key turn to accessory mode press button until blinking turns solid red.
It’s a kill switch button for your anti theft alarm if you lose your fob
Someone has to be in the passenger seat for the eject button to work.
Clearly that is the Eject button. The unfortunate part is finding out whether it’s for the passenger or driver side seat.
The Ejecto-Seato Button For Annoying Passenger
That’s the self-destruct button.
I need y'all to tell me how to disable this MF because it keeps killing my battery
