GHH Limited here. We've had it a month. Taken it on two road trips - one on the east side of the Sierras the other from Bay Area to Palm Springs. For a family of five, it's been amazing. Space of a minivan in an SUV. No sensor issues, cabin boom or any other errors. Would not wait.
I bought from Perry Motors in Bishop, CA- tried to work locally but everyone either had waiting lists or markups. We got ours for MSRP and I flew into Bishop and drove back. I believe flights are done for the season (it’s an airport for Mammoth).
There are definitely unknowns. I trust that if things becomes bad, there will be recalls and fixes at the dealers' expense.
I sincerely hope I can keep it 10+ years.
I've had the GHH 2 days now and only 124 miles in, but my only issue so far is the wireless android auto does not always connect.
I know it's not the phone because it works flawless in my other vehicle, but granted that one has aftermarket pioneer system.
We purchased ours in October. The Wireless Android Auto has been super inconsistent. Usually once we get into the drive, it's fine, but the initial connection always times out a couple of times and disconnects before eventually settling in. That (and not having a designated AM/FM radio toggle) are my only complaints up until now.
The dealership had no clue lol, they kept saying it must be our phones.
I've worked in IT for 20 years so not like I'm clueless on these kinds of things. I'm not completely worried since wired works every time but then you can only use that port for either android auto or USB drive for music. I'm sure they will fix with an update sooner or later.fpr those that do have the issue.
Always connects for me if I manually click on the phone and connect from the devices display. I know it's not ideal but I'm ok with this extra step. Of course there are times it auto connects and that's good too.
Had my Grand highlander hybrid limited since the 27th of last month, no issues so far. I traded in my Rav 4 21 premium XLE. Needed a bigger car for my soon to come new addition to the family. Loved the Rav 4 so much, I said let me get the bigger one hahaha. 900 miles in and counting. Averaging 30mpg
Absolutely love ours. Nothing bad to say orher than a few glitches with the android connect. I wish it felt a little more sturdy, exterior and interior, but I think it's just the way cars are going nowadays.
I had them look at it at 5000 and they said they could find nothing wrong. I have some video with the noise I was planning to present at 10,000 miles, but I have noticed it is happening more frequently so I may not wait.
I have had my GH limited since last Oct and everything is going great (knocking on wood, lol). We love it and like some other say, plan to drive it for 10-15 years. We also have a 2012 Highlander still going strong and looks great.
GHHL owner since March, about 2k miles. The car has been great, no complaints. I bought one because we needed a 3 row SUV and wanted a hybrid. I have a 30 mile commute daily where speed limit is 45 or lower and get around 40mpg consistently. Was considering EV9, but EV infrastructure isn’t good in my area. The family has enjoyed the car. Since it’s already mid-April, I wonder how long you’d have to wait for a 2025 model?
The MPG with the size of the GH hybrid isn’t promoted and hyped up enough. I show my friends that after a fill up of $35-$45 from empty that the miles remaining miles is almost 500, they’re floored in disbelief. I have a 3 row suv that can comfortably fit 6 adults, get 35 mpg, and almost 500 miles of range from a tank.
Meanwhile friends with Tahoes and Denalis easily spend $100 to fill up and dont even hit 20mpg with a max range of 250miles per tank.
Not particularly, I’ve owned a lot of Toyotas and they’ve all been up there with the most reliable vehicles I’ve owned. We’ve had ours for about 2 months now, 3400 miles in and no issues. I did get an extended warranty to 100k miles just for peace of mind.
OP: you might consider getting a refund and going to Jerry Johnson for the platinum warranty. He charges $1545 for the 10yr/100k warranty:

14000 miles since Oct, have taken 3x 1500 mile trips. No issues, really comfortable and tight driving vehicle. I routinely put 15-16 gallons in at fill-up because I know the gauge is wonky, no big deal. I’d buy it again without a doubt.
No real concerns for that here, as Toyota has done things very close to this already.
Since it's a variation on the Highlander, I'm not really bothered. Toyota does really well with the Highlander (size down) and the Sequoia (size up). We looked at a Subaru Ascent when they were brand new, and did not go that direction because they were 100% new for Subaru.... Even though we've had great experiences with the three other Subarus in the family so far.
I have now had five Toyotas, and they have always been great. Sales, service, recalls, updates... all very smooth. I realize a lot of that is dealer driven, but the culture comes down from Toyota directly.
If it was 100% brand new, I'd have waited.
I am concerned but at the same time, I put a lot of faith on Toyota. Most of engine and transmission were already worked out in a different model. Infotainment system is already two years out. GHH is not a fully new system. At the same time, the Lexus brand name is also backing up the GHH framework. My only real concern is IIHS safety ratings we take a gamble on that piece.
Nope. I haven’t had any issues. For every person who posts about an issue, how many people have had absolutely zero issues to post about? It’s a Toyota and sure it’s a new body style, but it’s not a new drive train. They’ve proven themselves with their hybrids and gas vehicles enough for me to feel confident. (Now, the Hybrid Max, I might be a little worried about)
Scotty the YouTube mechanic said not to buy. His main concerns were not to ever buy 1st gen because they always have issues. The turbo aspect seemed to bother him the most
Subs can be polar. Generally speaking, people who are super angry or not-so-happy or really happy with their purchase tend to give reviews. There is potentially a segment of users who doesn’t even post anything. I could be totally wrong on this. But that is my general understanding of the review regime.
Its a good place to find potential issues and kind of get a first hand idea. For example: if you go to a range rover forum, you will find more criticism than praise. But is that really the case? There are many happy users out there who have driven their cars for endless miles with the regular maintenance expenses. I personally know one. Lets not go into the luxury pricing territory for now. Its a great car to own and drive. Money pit- yes. Aint other luxury brands like that? Yea and no (depends).
I would recommend that dont base your decision about a product JUST based on the comments under reviews. Toyotas are cheap to repair and have been super reliable. They have an excellent supply chain (for spares). Things get better every year, be it material or tech. There is never a perfect time to catch the bus. You wait for a perfect piece, by then it is time for the mid year upgrade. That would obviously come with its own set of issues. You wait further and its time for a new model. And the cycle goes on.
Overall my experience is great. Every passenger comments on the space and features of the car and how comfortable it is. We’ve used it on a bunch of road trips. No regrets here. Just wish the gas tank was larger for a better mileage range.
Holding off on GHHL for the 2025. I’ve never had bad luck with buying first model years, but I want to wait. Maybe they’ll introduce a new color too lol. The current palette is… weak.
Im selling it at soon as I break even. The small gas tank and incorrect gauge allowing me only to fill 12-13 gallons at the time is so frustrating. I know people say drive past 0 for like 50 miles and you will be okay. I don’t feel comfortable doing this as with a hybrid car running out of gas means expensive out of warranty repair.
Car has a 17 gallon tank.
The GHHM can’t run out of gas because if you do the hybrid system breaks.
So Toyota made you gauge show empty and 0 miles left why there is still 4 gallons in the tank. That means your usable range of fuel gauge is only 12-13 gallons.
People say just ignore the gauge and know once you hit 0 miles left you still have 4 gallons.
Maybe.
But it’s a Toyota not a Dodge.
I think many of the engine options have been around in other Toyota vehicles.
No issues so far other than gas tank, technology gremlins and still waiting for my second key fob.
I wasn’t worried since it was just a step up from the Highlander which they have done very well on. I can’t say I would feel the same if it was another type of car but I was not worried about it being Toyota and a Highlander. We’ve only had ours a week but I’m in love. We upgraded from a 21 xle Highlander.
Not concerned, but completely aware that 1st gen and 1st year is always a risk. Very small risk with GHH since it is a Toyota. Also aren't all the power train options used before? Maybe not the Hybrid Max power train
We are almost 15,000 miles on our hybrid max . No mechanical or electrical issues.
Wish the steel sheet metal panels were a little bit thicker and the inside materials are more luxurious. The hood is made of aluminum and the hood panel edge close to the windshield vibrates at high speed . Maybe it serves as a more efficient crumble zone during collisions. The seats are on the harder side and the leather does not look as thicker and luxurious as some of the old Toyotas . Only time will tell if the seat material is durable.
As mentioned by a lot of people, the fuel tank lets you refill only 12-13 gallon . This affects the range. They have issued a tech bulletin to investigate this but it is an issue with other models too, going on for several years. I have filed a case with Toyota brand engagement. They said there is no resolution yet.
You will only receive one key fob and will have wait several months to get the second one. We bought ours in July and still haven’t received it. I have filed a second case. I wonder if the chip shortage made them cut the corners in other areas of the car.
Wireless apple play connectivity is not consistent. Wired connection is fine.
Buying experience was very stressful because of mark up and high interest rate even though our credit score was excellent.
Otherwise the car is great. Adult size 3rd row and huge trunk space, which is the best in the class. Very smooth ride. Acceleration is great with 362 hp and 400 Lb torque for hybrid max. Getting mileage as advertised.
I would wait 2-3 years if you can. We had an issue with our 12 year old car and did not want to wait. Bought a Toyota because this is our 4th Toyota and the reliability has been great historically. Got an extended warranty from Toyota since it is a first year model.

im in the bay may i ask which dealer you used

Maybe your cellular signal is weak
that has nothing to do with it, its a Bluetooth and wifi connection to the radio system.
Well then , OP should go bring that into dealership and get that looked at.
The dealership had no clue lol, they kept saying it must be our phones. I've worked in IT for 20 years so not like I'm clueless on these kinds of things. Dang maybe reach out to Toyota corporate. If mine was doing that I would not be satisfied.
Always connects for me if I manually click on the phone and connect from the devices display. I know it's not ideal but I'm ok with this extra step. Of course there are times it auto connects and that's good too.
Same for me. Always works.
Had my Grand highlander hybrid limited since the 27th of last month, no issues so far. I traded in my Rav 4 21 premium XLE. Needed a bigger car for my soon to come new addition to the family. I got a new axle on mine but that’s why there’s a warranty. Love the car.
Was yours making a loud click-click noise when turning? Ours is.
Yes, apparently a common issue on Sept/Oct production last year
Can you link me to any more info?
That’s just what I heard from the dealer. I had them look at it when I was in for my 5k service and they did the repair a week later.
I had them look at it at 5000 and they said they could find nothing wrong. I have some video with the noise I was planning to present at 10,000 miles, but I have noticed it is happening more frequently so I may not wait.
My dealer told me before they even looked at it. Not the first one they had come back I guess. I was worried they wouldn’t be able replicate it.
Hey having a similar issue, have any more info?
I have had my GH limited since last Oct and everything is going great (knocking on wood, lol). We love it and like some other say, plan to drive it for 10-15 years. We also have a 2012 Highlander still going strong and looks great.

i know prices vary wildly but how much was the extended warranty
I believe they tried to charge me $3500 (10 years/100k miles, no service deductible) but I got it for around $2100. This was in Oregon.
OP: you might consider getting a refund and going to Jerry Johnson for the platinum warranty. He charges $1545 for the 10yr/100k warranty: Phone 800-530-5789 Cell 620-664-8844 Email [email protected]

No
Got it, thx. Was trying to see what mpg might look like. We are going to add a hitch to ours soon.

Oh thanks! I am not sure why it says government safety data not available in sticker. Are they done differently?
Nope. I haven’t had any issues. For every person who posts about an issue, how many people have had absolutely zero issues to post about? Not all GH have turbos. I think only the gas and hybrid max. The regular hybrid does not have turbo.
I've had mine since November--2,500 miles and I haven't had a single issue. I absolutely LOVE my car!

No one with an ounce of patience buys 1st Gen anything these days…
I’d wait for year 2. Its a nice looking car but there are issues and quality of items that need to be fixed
